Affordable Retrospective Candles & Gifts Perfume Inspired Sample Wax Box

If you love your home fragrances through wax melt form, there are so many to choose from. So where do you start? How do you confidently buy wax melts from a new wax vendor/business/shop, if you’re not sure about the quality or how they smell and melt? I have a solution….a sample box! Lots of wax melt vendors do sample boxes where you get a selection of wax for a set (and normally small and affordable) price. And this is why I purchased a perfume inspired box by a Blackpool based company called Retrospective Candles & Gift. This sample box cost £5.00.

Perfume Inspired Sample Box By Retrospective Candles & Gifts
    Why did I buy this?

A friend of mine tried these and I really wanted to see what they were like for myself. On the website there were different sample boxes available containing different sets of scents which meant plenty of choice. The one I was drawn to was the perfume inspired wax sample box as it contained fragrances I haven’t experienced before in perfume or in wax form. And with it only costing £5.00 which included postage I didn’t feel I had anything to lose.

    What did I get?

Angel. An uplifting, sweet, feminine floral.

Ghost. Feminine, with a touch of floral and sweetness. Youthful but timeless and smells expensive.

Alien. Quite a flirty scent and grown up. Musky undertones with a touch of sweetness to it.

Mademoiselle. Slightly floral, with a hint of powdery musk. Feminine and very fresh.

Flower Bomb. A fresh non overpowering mix of florals.

Unicorn Poo. Almost sweetie like but not sickly.

How does the wax melts look?

The wax melts are small, white and almost disc like because they are flat. Each one is wrapped up in tissue paper with a label stuck on the front. Very appealing packaging with the look of the wax melts themselves very different to other wax I’ve used which I like. I received 12 wax melts in total.

    Ghost inspired wax melt
    Are these accurate perfume dupes?

These are inspired by certain scents so not copies. And in all honesty I can’t say I’ve owned any of the fragrances these waxes are inspired by, so wouldn’t feel confident in saying how similar they are. What I will say is that they are all beautifully scented, definitely perfume like and smell high end.

    In Melt

I used two melts, which melted quite quickly and evenly. These melts were used in three different areas of my house. One being the kitchen, hallway and living room. All melts smelt the same as they did when melted as they did on cold so no surprises.

    Strength & Longevity

What I found with each of these scents is they were quite subtle. I would leave them to melt and then think to myself I couldn’t really smell them. But I would then think how that particular room or area smelt nice but it wasn’t obvious, very soft and natural. I had these on one scent at a time for a few hours over 2 days before I changed them.

    Recommended?

I think this is a nice, affordable way to to try out wax. Personally, I think these are better suited to smaller rooms. In bigger areas these would be too faint in strength and too soft in my opinion. These would work perfectly if you don’t want heavy, in your face scents. But this set I wouldn’t repeat purchase for myself because I like stronger wax. Whether this is a wax melt purchase for yourself or as a gift, it won’t break the bank!

  • Strawberry’s Wax Creations Strawberry Blanket Wax Melt Chunks

Strawberry’s Wax Creations Strawberry Blanket Wax Melt Chunks

I really should enforce a wax ban on myself. But sometimes I just can’t help myself! A pretty piece of wax can turn my eye and a scent description for wax can send me crazy with excitement. And even though I promised myself recently I wouldn’t buy any new pieces I betrayed myself by buying some new wax from Strawberry’s Wax Creations. One of which being Strawberry Blanket wax chunks. 110g for £5.50.

Strawberry Blanket Wax Melt Chunks by Strawberry’s Wax Creations
    Why did I buy this?

Purely down to the scent description. It includes one of my favourite all time scents from SW and this mix really interested me. I just knew I had to have it – simple!

    Strawberry’s Wax Creations Scent Description

Strawberry and parsley and soft blanket ( jasmine and cherry blossom, Fressia and powdery notes complete with orchid ).

    Packaging

All wax chunks from Strawberry Melt’s come in a small paper bag as standard, with a small clear window on the front so you can peep inside. Scent name and description is on a label just above it and on the back is ingredients list.

    How does this look?

These chunks are roughly the same size but not exact ( not factory made handmade with love ). Yellow in colour with stripes of green and red running through them. Finished off with delicate dusting of irregular pieces of glitter.

    In Melt

I used just one chunk as each one was a good size and was the perfect amount to place in my wax warmer. Didn’t take too long to melt and created the most eye catching wax pool while releasing fragrance.

    Fragrance

One word WOW! I already mentioned this included one of my favourite scents. And the scent I adore is Strawberry and Parsley. You can definitely smell it within this combination. A little strawberry can be picked out mid whiff, so has a fruity berry element to it. Some herbal element is in there but what changes this from strawberry and parsley as a stand alone scent, is this has a powdery element to it with a touch of floral. All of these mixed together created a clean, fresh, sophisticated almost laundry type scent.

    Strength & Longevity

This is strong! I melted this in the kitchen and I could smell this in the next room. Despite this I didn’t find it overpowering, so this would be great wax for different sized rooms from small to big. This has been melting away on and off for 4 days…and I’ve had to change the wax not because the scent had disappeared, but because I have other wax to use up. So strength and longevity is fantastic!

    Recommended?

I think this is now my new favourite over my beloved Strawberry & Parsley. Why? It has that extra cleanness to it which stands out for me and I adore it! If you love laundry and clean scents and want something a little different this is for you. I can’t see many people not liking this and should be sat in every wax melter! Currently not in stock, but Strawberry Melt’s have restocks regularly and there are also opportunities for customers to put in requests for particular scents in various wax forms, so this coming back is a possibility. Visit their website here now for your latest wax fix and to keep your eyes peeled for this ( hopefully ) to pop back up for sale!

  • SBC’s Coconut & Plumeria Shimmer Skincare Gel

We seem to be getting a last wind of Summer here in the UK thanks to some heat and sun. How long this will last for who knows, but no doubt if it’s dry and pleasant we will all enjoy it while we can. One body product I’ve been using on and off depending on the weather has been SBC’s Coconut & Plumeria Shimmer Skincare Gel. I originally bought this as a 4 piece set from the shopping channel QVC when it was a TSV ( Today’s Special Value ) a few months ago.

SBC’s Coconut & Plumeria Shimmer Skincare Gel
    What is this?

It’s a gel you put on the skin and it gives the skin a shimmer effect while providing moisture.

    Packaging

This gel comes in different sizes but mine is 500ml. Housed in a tall plastic bottle with a pump action dispenser. Totally clear, with a simple picture on the front giving an idea on what the scent of this is, along with product name and on the back ingredients list and directions to use.

    Appearance & Consistency

Not typical of the other SBC gels I’ve used in the past. They’ve been semi translucent but with colour. This one is a pearly white colour because of the shimmer in it, so definitely has a opalescence appearance. Texture is part lotion part gel. It holds its form to a degree when pumped out but very loose when rubbed in.

    Fragrance

You wouldn’t guess how this smells with the name it has, or at least I didn’t! This is quite earthy in scent. Earthy in a plant way more than flowery but very clean. The coconut element is there but minus the sweetness and is probably the last thing you can smell once inhaled. I think this helps to give it a slight creaminess to it rather than tropical fruit. Very unusual and not something I’ve smelt scent wise before.

    On the body

Very easy and quick to apply because of how fluid it was. It literally moved over the skin and rubbed in like a dream, and sunk in super fast. You don’t need much but you really can’t overdo it, and I found it easy to layer this up if and when I needed added moisture. I would say my skin tends to be normal and occasionally dry but at the moment no issues with dryness, so this gave me the hydration I needed and skin felt very moisturised after application.

It didn’t leave a tacky layer on the skin which meant I could get dressed straight away. Skin felt soft and smooth but appeared matt and not greasy. I would suggest not to dump a massive amount of this on the body. Three pumps for the whole body was ample for me. The thicker the layer the longer it will sink in so less is more. Need more? Apply thin layers one after the other.

    Shimmer, Shimmer!

This sounds crazy but I totally forgot this had a shimmer to it. I didn’t really focus on this when looking at the gel in the bottle or even when first pumped out. It was only when both myself and my 10 year old son had used it one evening after a shower and he sat next to me. We both looked at each other’s arms and I felt like we were part of the Cullen family from Twilight! To say this kept us entertained is an understatement!

It really glistens in the light. Its so pretty as its fine and delicate as the particles are so tiny, but really gives you a classy bling covering without over or under doing it. And….. it last forever! It doesn’t matter if you’ve put sun cream over the top, got dressed and clothes have touched the skin, it’s still there. It comes off when you want it to though e.g having a bath or shower so not permanent.

    Recommended?

Now…. I LOVE this gel! The scent is very different. The texture makes it a dream to apply. Ideal for summer thanks to how lightweight it is and the shimmer effect.

The scent is something that some people will like and some won’t. It took me by surprise as it didn’t smell like how I imagined it would but its very much grown on me. And because its very different I love it! This doesn’t smell tropical more botanical. For the shimmer alone in my opinion its worth every penny. Want to ‘ shine like a diamond ‘ and try this out? You can buy this direct from SBC here in different sizes starting from 100ml ( on offer at time of writing this post ) priced at £4.50 to £15.00 ( 500ml ), or visit QVC where they have this product on its own or in various sets ready for you to experience.

  • Lavender Cottage’s Cocoa Butter Soy Wax Melt Pot

I never need more wax melts but that doesn’t stop me buying more! Lavender Cottage, formally Mulberry Lane, is a company I’ve ordered from before, but hadn’t tried their wax again since they rebranded last year. So I felt it was a great time to order for my friend and a myself and discover some new scents ( perfect excuse!). Along with other Summer inspired scents that got placed in my shopping basket, I ordered Cocoa Butter wax melt pot to try out as well. Normally this costs £2.50, but was half price at £1.25.

    Why did I buy this?

There is a certain skincare/hair care brand that does a cocoa butter lotion which I grew up with, and the scent of it is recognisably after one whiff, AND I LOVE IT! Never smelt it in wax melt form and was dying to see what this was like.

Mulberry Lane’s Cocoa Butter Wax Pot
    Packaging

Like many wax melt pots…yep you guessed it…the 47g wax is in a pot! Lidded, with a a fantastic, crisp picture of pure cocoa butter pieces on the front showing what scent you get.

    How does this look?

Colour of the wax is cream. On the top its lightly dusted with various sized hexagon shaped flat gold glittery pieces. Turn the wax around ( the pot except label is see through ) and you can see the wax is actually segmented. Its one piece but divided up in 6 segments which makes breaking up for use easy.

    In melt

I used 3 pieces of this wax because of where my wax warmer was positioned in my kitchen, but 2 should be fine for most wax users. Steadily and evenly it melted which meant the scent crept up rather than pushed into the air straight away.

    Fragrance

Now…this scent really surprised me, in a good way I might add. It didn’t have that cocoa butter lotion smell to me. In fact, it was much more complex. It does have that slight cocoa butter element to it but but has a fruity undertone to it, almost peach like. Such a hard one to describe but I think a universal scent as its beautiful, not overpowering and very different to other scents I’ve experienced in wax.

    Strength & Longevity

Strength is a medium, but of course can be adjusted a little if you add more wax, but strength wise this is perfect. This type of strength I don’t feel should be pushing up into your nostrils and should just ‘ be there ‘. I’ve melted this so far for at least 16 hours over 2 days and its still packing a beautiful punch. So thumbs up for both strength and how long it lasted.

    Recommended?

Most definitely! I can’t see many people NOT liking this. I can understand why this is part of Lavender Cottage’s Summer wax melt collection but in all honesty I would be happy to melt this anytime of the year as its delicious and quite different so one to add to anyone’s wax collection.
