  • A LUSH Sleepy Shower Gel Dupe In Lidl

I rarely buy products from LUSH. It’s a treat. Yes, they make and sell some great products. But cost is a massive reason why it’s a considered purchase for me. I’ve never tried their shower gels. At around £17.00 for a 260g bottle I can’t justify that. So when Lidl decided to do their own versions of LUSH shower gels, generously sized AND so much cheaper, I had to try them out! First I tried Honey I’m Home and now I’m currently using Relax shower gel. So what is it a dupe for and what is it like?

Lidl’s LUSH Sleepy Shower Gel Dupe
    What’s it a dupe of?

Relax shower gel is a dupe for Sleepy shower gel by LUSH.

    Packaging

Relax comes in a 500ml size. It comes in a clear, plastic flip top bottle with a mainly black label on it. It’s practical, it’s nothing flash but in a basic way it looks good!

    Look & consistency

Relax is a vibrant and striking purple colour. It’s thick but pourable and glossy. How this is coloured makes it stand out, even more so because the bottle it comes in is clear so you can see it.

    Fragrance

I’m a massive fan of some of the LUSH Sleepy products. I’ve not used the shower gel but I have used Sleepy Bubble Bar and Sleepy Bear Bath Bomb. The main thing that I loved about these products was how they smelt. And Relax smells very similar. It clearly has relaxing lavender in this, giving it an aromatherapy feel. But it’s quite a sweet scent with creamy vanilla in this which not only makes it relaxing but comforting as well. I ADORE how this smells!

    In the shower & bath

I mainly use this in the bath. Under warm running water this foams up beautifully and the bubbles stay in tact, light and airy, for a great amount of time. In fact, there’s still plenty left when I’m ready to get out! Despite the fact this shower gel is purple it doesn’t colour the water as such, but gives it the lightest tint of blue/purple. The fragrance is there from beginning to end of my bathing experience which I love. Using Relax is relaxing, soothing and I enjoy every minute of it.

In the shower this performs just as well. It lathers up nicely on a sponge. It washes my body very well and fragrances the bathroom. After use in both bath and shower my skin is fragranced only slightly, and not long lasting. It doesn’t dry out my skin or irritate it, which if I’m honest I was worried about.

    LUSH v Lidl

The packaging for both is similar. Colour of each shower gel looks the same. Fragrance (I’m assuming the LUSH shower gel has the same fragrance as the other Sleepy products) is also very similar and Relax is just as good. Ingredients list is very different but has a few of the key ingredients that on paper would make these products comparable (oat and lavender). Size wise Sleepy shower gels come in 110g, 260g and 520g whereas Relax comes in only one which is 500ml. Price? If we compare LUSH’s 520g to Relax, it costs an eye watering £26! Lidl’s version? £1.99!

I love this shower gel! It does everything I want and need it to do in the shower and the bath and the fragrance for me is everything. This makes this one of my favourite shower gels I’ve EVER used! Great size, great price and overall great product. I will be buying more of this if my local Lidl has it in stock, and you should too if you’re a fan of of the Sleepy range by LUSH!

  • Christmas Wax Melt Subscription Box With Glow

I love a subscription box! Especially when I haven’t purchased one for awhile. So I couldn’t miss out on Glow’s November Subscription Box which is filled with Christmas inspired wax melts and extra seasonally goodies as well. Why did I buy this? I don’t have many Christmas wax melts and this was the perfect way to get different Christmas scents all in one collection! Cost? £25.00. So what was in it?

Christmas Wax Melt Subscription Box With Glow
    Christmas Cookies

A large, flat, red slab of wax with images of gonks etched into it and the words ‘Merry Christmas’. This is a stunning and fun piece of wax which is incredibly generous in size. Christmas Cookies does smell like a bakery scent. There’s vanilla, sweetness, a little buttery element to it. Mouth wateringly good!

    Christmas Cookies Christmas Wax Melt
    Cosy Night In

Mint green in colour, flat and square shaped with ‘North Pole Express’ and reindeer images in this wax melt. Reminds me of a stamp and I love it! The fragrance has a fruity, berry undertone to it but with a hint of bitterness to it and spice. Cosy Night In is a great fragrance and an unusual one.

    Cosy Cardigan

Same shape and size as Cosy Night In, but pale yellow in colour with the words ‘Merry Christmas’ on the top of it. This isn’t a traditional Winter fragrance. It’s quite fresh and clean with floral notes running underneath it. It’s very pretty and it smells like it’s part laundry part perfume. THIS I know I will enjoy melting!

    Cosy Cardigan Christmas Wax Melt
    Santa’s Grotto

Soft purple in colour with a reindeer image and the words ‘Reindeer Mail Express’ on the top of it. Very cute and very festive. The actual scent of Santa’s Grotto has sweet, juicy citrus in this (smells like orange) with a slightly masculine woody element to it. It’s a great combination of scents which somehow work well together.

    Santa’s Grotto Christmas Wax Melt
    Twisted Peppermint

Different shades of blue with an adorable snowman etched into this wax melt square. The fragrance of Twisted Peppermint is what you would expect with it’s scent name. It’s cooling, minty, fresh, sweet, with a little vanilla in this.

    Twisted Peppermint Christmas Wax Melt
    Extra’s

Along with the wax came a key ring, a small hanging decoration, a panettone and a small bag full of chocolate, which will not last long!

    Extra goodies!
    First impressions?

This is such a good collection! The amount of wax included will provide hours and hours of fragrance, which is incredible value! The wax melts themselves are colourful, well themed and adorable in appearance. And the fragrances are what you would hope for, for this time of year. But not the boring, predictable fragrances which get hashed out, these are a little different. I love this collection and can’t wait to start melting them over the next few weeks.

This subscription box was for a limited amount of time and no longer available. But Glow has a variety of home fragrance, bath, body and skincare products available to buy online, with many perfect for gifting over Christmas or to treat yourself.

  • Jo Malone Candle & Reed Diffuser Dupes in Tesco

Dupes, or if worded nicely ‘inspired by’ products, have been around for years. But these days you can find them anywhere and everywhere, and as consumers we are lapping them up! Most of us are fully aware you won’t get an identical copy of the original product, but hope to get something similar and much cheaper than the ‘real’ thing. One brand that has ‘inspired’ many home fragrance products is Jo Malone. My local Tesco stocks their own dupe versions in candles and reed diffusers. So what did I find and how much did they cost?

Jo Malone Candle & Reed Diffuser Dupes in Tesco
    No 1 Pomegranate

A slightly fruity but very smoky scent which isn’t for the faint hearted. Not subtle at all, instantly recognisable and great for both men and women.

    No 1 Pomegranate
No 3 Mandarin Lime & Basil

Slightly citrus with a herby hit to it. This type of scent is quite fresh and clean but not in the traditional sense.

No 3 Mandarin, Lime & Basil
No 4 Noir Myrrh & Vanilla Bean

Warming, creamy vanilla with what I call an incense type of scent mixed into it. Anyone that loves vanilla with a dark undertone to it would love this (like me!).

No 4 Noir Myrrh & Vanilla Bean
No 5 Damask Rose & Oud

Damask Rose & Oud is a special rose based fragrance which is dark, rich, slightly smoky with musk. I’m not a fan of rose, especially the old fashioned type, but this is stunning!

No 5 Damask Rose & Oud
What do these fragrances come in?

Each of these fragrances are available in a 100ml reed diffuser, and in candle form in 3 different sizes (300g, 700g and 1000g).

    Fragrances

I smelt all of these (candles), although quickly. They all had a great smell to them but there were some I personally preferred more than others. Are they accurate to the Jo Malone versions? Without owning and using the originals and comparing them to each other I can’t say yes or no. But the scent descriptions are similar. The scents stand out alone without comparing to anything else which is the most important thing.

    Packaging

All of the reed diffusers come boxed and candles are all in glass jars with a gold lids. Fragrances No 1 and 3 are all in white with black lettering and detailing. And the candles are in clear jars. No 5 has exactly the same presentation but in red with gold lettering and jar is red not clear. No 4 is black with gold detailing and the jars are black. How these are presented does have a Jo Malone feel to them. They look simple but elegant and are attractive, especially No 4 and 5.

    Prices

All the reed diffusers are £6.00 each. The 300g candle is £4.00, 700g £10.00 and 1000g £14.00. These are not the cheapest priced home fragrance products available but for what you get completely fair.

I like the look of these products. Great to purchase for yourself or as gifts and the fragrances are good! In fact, I bought No 4 in the 300g candle as a Christmas gift for someone! If you shop in Tesco and are looking at purchasing candles or reed diffusers, these are items not to be sniffed at, especially if you’re a fan of Jo Malone!

  • Apple Spice Wax Melt Snap Bar From Home of Honey Candle Co

We’re now in a season when home fragrance products are the best! The scent choices, the products available, all fitting for the colder months we are now heading into. Which for many of us mean we spend more time inside, or at least are trying to make our homes more comfortable ready for the seasonal change. Without fail, my beloved wax melts are ready to be used and I’ve just started to use wax from a selection I was kindly given by wax vendor Home of Honey Candle Co last month. My first wax melt of choice was Apple Spice, so what is it like?

Home of Honey Candle & Co’s Apple Spice Wax Melt Snap Bar
    How does it look?

Apple Spice came in a traditional wax melt snap bar made up of 5 segments. A sprinkle of green and iridescent glitter on the front of this bar makes it stand out. The wax itself colour wise seems to be a mix of pale green and off white. A very attractive bar of wax which reflects it’s fragrance name. Neatly packaged in a clear plastic sleeve with a white bow to finish off the presentation.

    Fragrance

Sweet, juicy apple rolled into a mix of different spices including (I’m guessing) cinnamon, mixed spice and possibly nutmeg. This is a gorgeous blend of scents combined into one, making this fragrance fruity, warming and very bakery like in how it smells. It has an almost apple crumble smell to it, but not quite, although just as good.

    In melt

I popped 2 segments of Apple Spice in 2 different wax warmers (one positioned in the living room, the other in the hallway). They both melted evenly and quite quickly and released fragrance straight away. The scent grew and was more noticeable as time went on, which made the fragrance feel and smell very natural.

    Strength & Longevity

Apple Spice is medium in strength. Think of something baking in the oven and that scent floats around the kitchen. It’s not strong, it definitely isn’t weak. It’s there, it smells good and you enjoy that scent so much you can’t wait to take out whatever is in the oven. This is what Apple Spice makes me think of in regards to how it smells, how it lingers in the air and the general feel it gives. Longevity, this wax melt bar lasted 2 days in 2 locations before the strength lessened. But they were melting for a good number of hours at a time.

    Recommended?

Apple Spice is a yummy scent. It screams Autumn and Winter. It’s warming and comforting, it’s not sickly sweet but is very much a bakery scent rather than full on fruit. Definitely recommended. Wax melt snap bars cost only £2.50, they come in various fragrances but this is worth adding to your collection!
