  • Beauty Kitchen’s Abyssinian Oil Prime Time Cream Cleanser

Skincare for a few is a passion. For the majority it’s a necessity. Most people care if they have clean, healthy looking skin. So they will at least buy and use the basics to make sure this happens. A cleanser of some description and a moisturiser is probably the least the majority of people will use on a daily basis. Cleansing the skin can be a boring act and products used compared to others not very interesting, but I love it! And that’s why my mind and wallet are open to trying out new cleansers. My current cleanser is the Beauty Kitchen’s Abyssinian Oil Prime Time Cream Cleanser. I bought mine in a set direct from the company, but on it’s own full size is £12.50 for 150ml.

    Why did I use this?

Why I bought this was simple. I’ve had products from this range before and really liked them. So I bought a discovery collection of products at a brilliant price as it was on sale. Why I started to use this product in particular was because of the change in season. I wanted to use a cleanser with a different, richer texture which hopefully would remove dirt from the skin and hydrate it at the same time.

    Packaging.

This cleaner comes in a black tube. Or at least this size does (30ml). To dispense the product you have to push the top. It means you get a measured amount of product per pump so it’s hard to overuse. And this action stops oxygen from getting to the product so preserving it for as long as it’s been designed to stay effective.

    Fragrance.

Smells just like the other products in the range. Aromatherapy oil like but not as pungent and strong. There’s an uplifting citrus note in this. A little floral also and overall a very pleasant scent with a touch of sweetness.

    Ingredients.

Some of the ingredients of this cleanser are of course Abyssinian Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Glycerin, Shea Butter and Rose Absolute.

    Texture.

This reminds me a bit of a hot cloth cleanser in regards to it’s texture. It’s white in colour, quite thick in consistency as it holds it’s shape. Very much like a thick moisturiser such as a night one. It has a little waxiness to it but it’s not too obvious.

    How to use.

This is important to follow these basic steps and I will explain why in a minute! Massage onto damp skin and remove with a konjac sponge with warm water.

    How did I find this?

I made a mistake using this so I hold my hands up! Rather than apply this onto damp skin I just dispensed 3-4 pumps of this cleanser and rubbed it onto a dry face. What happened next was this behaved like a moisturiser. It didn’t move around my face for long. What it did do was sink into my face. I then removed what was left with a warm damp flannel. So wet your face first!

Take 2. I wet my face and found that anything less than 5 pumps of cleanser wasn’t enough. 5 was just right and this moved around my face easily. It did feel like I was rubbing cream onto my skin but not INTO it. Very easy to use and to remove. I’m not fancy enough to use specific sponges for cleansing, so I use a face cloth which is damp and warm. No idea if this would change my experience but I wasn’t going to purchase something new to use with it. In regards to cleaning my face, I don’t wear make up, so it didn’t have much to remove. But appeared to remove general dirt and grime well.

    Skin Afterwards.

My skin looked clean. A little tight but this didn’t concern me. It left my face quite matt with no shine or greasiness. And seemed ready to have other products to be applied onto my skin straight away.

    Recommended?

This is a nice cleanser. Is it the best cleanser I’ve ever used? No. Nor is it the cheapest. I would recommend this if you are looking at buying into skincare which is based on natural ingredients. But buy in kit form ideally when it’s priced well e.g special offer, sale. 150ml for £12.50 is comparable to other mid range cleansers on the market and of this quality ingredients wise. For myself I would be happy to receive this as a gift, but feel my skin needs something else to pimp up my cleansing routine.

The good thing about this range is it’s available from many outlets if this sounds like something your skin would love, including Amazon* Includes affiliate link at no cost to you but provides me with commission to help me buy more stuff!

  • Beauty Kitchen’s Seahorse Plankton High Definition Facial Oil

I’m not a make up wearer. I can’t be bothered. It seems a lot of time, energy and skill to use which I simply don’t have. But my hat goes off to anyone with the dedication and money to do this especially on a day to day basis. But what is important to me is the condition of my skin. Just call me Miss Au Natural! I want my skin to look it’s best and that’s why I love skincare. Am I consistent with what I use? In some areas definitely not. But I have started to use something I haven’t used in a while which is a facial oil. Oil of choice is Beauty Kitchen’s Seahorse Plankton High Definition Facial Oil. Mine is 10ml in size, full size, 30ml, which normally costs £20.00.

    Why am I using this?

A skincare routine can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. So many different things can change our skin. From the internal (diet, stress, illness), to the external (change of weather, temperature). So one routine can work well one time and seem to fail at another. You could totally switch it up, or you can change or add one or two products to see if that creates improvements. This is what I tend to do, and a facial oil is something that can be slotted in easily. I’ve found they can super charge my routine without too much hassle or money. And I thought it was about time I used one as I haven’t for a while, and was curious to see if this particular one would be helpful.

What is this supposed to do?

This oil is designed to not only rejuvenate but protect the skin. Provide hydration, help to even out skin tone and texture and overall give the skin an improved look thanks to containing ingredients such as plankton extract (a form of algae) and other marine extracts. Not to mention various essential oils and moisturising oils such as sweet almond and coconut oil. Ideal skin type that would benefit from this product would be showing signs of ageing e.g lines and wrinkles, and lack lustre looking skin.

    Packaging.

10ml of facial oil comes in a glass bottle with a pipette to dispense at the top. The bottle itself is dark blue, which is designed to protect the product as it can degrade in sunlight. Nicely labelled in blue and white, quite appealing.

    Fragrance.

This is lovely! As someone who loves the typical aromatherapy type scents, this is one that makes me smile! Lightly citrusy, floral, a little musk in there. It’s not a strong scent but it is one where you smell it and you inhale and you sigh. Very relaxing and obviously has a collection of essential oils contained in this which I adore.

    Consistency.

I expected an oil, quite thick and greasy. This was not. Yes, oil like, but not gloppy. It has a slightly looser consistency to it. And when warmed between the fingers tips and applied to the face, it doesn’t seem very greasy and not sticky at all. Reminds me a bit of a dry oil but not to that extreme.

    How to use.

On clean skin, apply 4 to 5 drops of this oil using circular motions. Or it can be added to moisturiser of choice.

    On the face.

I didn’t feel I needed 4 to 5 drops. 3 seemed enough, 4 if I wanted to be that little bit extra. In the fingers tips because it wasn’t too thick was super easy to apply onto the face, and quick too. Absorbed beautifully and didn’t leave a veil of stickiness on the skin. My skin didn’t look shiny but it did look hydrated. The scent of this really made me enjoy using this product even more because it’s so calming. And despite the fact it’s applied on the face the fragrance was the perfect strength, not heady or distracting, and didn’t linger. Any other products I needed to apply straight after wasn’t a problem. My skin didn’t feel overloaded.

The whole process, although short, reminded me of what I look for in skincare. I want to use things that work and I want to LIKE using them! And this product I enjoyed using 100%!

    Effects on the skin.

I’ve used this for a few weeks now and I did take a break of a few days in between, but then continued using it. The reason for this was I came out in spots and I wasn’t too sure whether it was this product or not, so I stopped using it. These facial creatures were persistent and I still haven’t fully evicted them, but I don’t think it was the oil that created them but I needed to be sure.

Sometimes I’ve used this morning and night, sometimes just once a day. But what I will say is the amount of hydration given to my skin was and still is impressive. I’m not suffering from dry skin. I haven’t changed my skincare products while using this, but my skin just seems that little bit more protected and juicy. I can’t expect anymore from this product at the moment as I know overall I’m run down and need to relook my skincare routine. But I am very happy with what this oil has delivered.

    Recommended?

This is a beautiful oil! It applies like a dream and isn’t heavy on the skin. Smells so soothing and really gives the skin a boost of moisture. If you are someone who likes the ideas of oils but not too keen on the texture, this could be for you. Want to slip in a product that gives hydration and don’t want to change your whole routine? Perfect! Any other things this oil is aimed to do I can’t comment on if I don’t suffer from the issues it targets. But if you have the skin concerns I have mentioned in this post have a look at this product bare this product in mind.

This oil is very good so it’s a yes from me! Not the cheapest of oils (but not the most expensive either to be fair!), so for more money for your pound or dollar try and get this in a kit or when on sale. You should get months of use out of either the 10ml or 30ml bottle because you are only using a few drops at a time. So it may seem expensive on the surface, but you get your monies worth time wise.

Best price for this product at time of writing this post is through Amazon.£16.99 for 30ml (link here*). THIS would make a great addition to your skincare routine for the cooler months ahead and a great gift to the skin. Your skin can thank me later!

  • Beauty Kitchen’s Hydration Hero Face Mist

Why do I love skincare? It’s about making the most of what you have and trying to take care of it. You can go as deep and complex or as basic as you want. But all of us on some level will use skincare on a daily basis. I’ve tried lots of different products before, but one that hasn’t been on my radar has been a facial mist. I purchased Hydration Hero Face Mist from Beauty Kitchen earlier this year when it was on a special promotion. Current price £12.50 for 100ml.

    Beauty Kitchen’s Hydration Hero Mist

Why did I buy this? I was introduced to this brand a few years ago by a friend when she gifted me a night time face mask. I was so impressed by it I’ve kept my eye on their products ever since. When they had a sale earlier this year, I bought this because it sounded like a useful product. Easy and quick to use, slot into my everyday routine and would give my skin instant relief if and when needed.

What does this supposed to do? This mist is designed to give the skin immediate moisture when applied. After one spritz, skin should look and feel brighter and happier.

Packaging. The mist comes in a darkened glass bottle with a spray dispenser top. The fact it’s darkened glass speaks volumes to me. Normally this is how products with some form of essential oils or other ingredients are contained that need to be protected from the light, so it doesn’t degrade. Labelling is quite earthy in look with its green colouring and plant like shapes. This matches the tall rectangular box this mist comes in.

Fragrance. I detect an energising zestiness to this mist so definitely some form of citrus is in it. A little floral is in there too. Overall, it has a botanical smell to this but it’s not overpowering and perfectly balanced. Don’t worry if you hate the smell of flowers or should I say florals, like I do, this is more aromatherapy based and lovely!

Ingredients. These include water, glycerin, Abyssinian Oil, Rose Absolute and various other aromatherapy oils. Beauty Kitchen’s ethos is about formulating beauty products using natural and effective ingredients.

How to use. Shake, spray six inches away from face then using hands pat onto skin.

In use. I used this as suggested on the packaging. Honestly, I expected a mist of fragranced water. That isn’t what I got. Liquid and water like yes it was. When I patted the excess into my skin only then could I tell this was something else. Rather than it being just water, I could feel there was some form of oil in it. It wasn’t greasy but light and moisturising. It’s something I’ve never experienced texture wise before.

The scent was so enjoyable to take in, and despite being a little stuffy in the nose because of hay fever, this provided some light relief.

Skin after use. I didn’t expect massive miracles from using this. That’s not what it’s supposed to do. The reason why I started using this product was hoping to get instant relief from my skin feeling tired, uncomfortable and dry. And what this did was exactly what I hoped for! A few spritz provided a light layer of hydration and protection which for my skin perked it up. And the fragrance really helped to kick start my senses and relax and invigorate me all at the same time ( depending on what time of day I used this ). My skin didn’t look greasy but it looked slightly less dull.

When do I use this mist? Mainly before wearing a mask for work. This gives my skin another layer of hydration. After wearing a mask, for obvious reasons! This crazy every changing weather means I grab this often. Warm and sunny, cold and windy. Neither is helping my face feel normal, and this is quick and easy to use while experiencing these extremes. Those moments when I know I’m not going to wash and cleanse my face for a few hours, but it needs something to keep it going before then, is when this comes out. Basically, anytime I feel my skin is flagging, I spray and go!

Negatives? I think I may have a funky spray top because the mist I’m getting hasn’t been very fine or directed properly. This means I’ve used more of this than I know I should have. Annoying, but these things can happen and doesn’t take away what’s in the bottle. EDIT. Definitely was a faulty spray top. I bought two of these mists, swapped over the the spray top with number 2 and this is now spraying like a dream! Lovely, fine mist which is covering the face with two pumps!

Recommended? Genuinely, I didn’t think a facial mist was something that needed to be used or bought, and technically it isn’t. It’s not an essential item in a skincare routine like a cleanser or a moisturiser is, so at one point I did think it’s pretty pointless. But that isn’t my opinion anymore! A good quality facial mist in my opinion can be helpful to the skin, and also for other senses too. This ticked the senses box. The texture was a delight and I loved it on the skin as it gave it an immediate hydration kick. The fragrance was mood boosting which is always a good thing. I LOVE this product! And totally recommend this and would buy this again and again.

£12.50 may seem a lot price wise, but this should last a good amount of time considering it’s 100ml. It’s not something you will use constantly so this wouldn’t disappear anytime soon. And the ingredients are well thought out and good quality.
