  • Great For Teenagers? Dirty Works Coconut Foaming Sugar Scrub

If you ever want to have an instant body skin makeover, there are two products that can do this within minutes. One being a good body scrub. It will exfoliate and smooth and soften the skin even after just one application. And using a body moisturiser of choice. This gives the skin an even smoother feel but moisturised and protected. Both I love to use but it’s the body scrub I’m a bit lazy with. So it was a lovely surprise to be given by a friend Dirty Works Foaming At Last Coconut Foaming Sugar Scrub recently, now added to my body care collection.

    Why did I use this?

I’ve always been curious about this brand but never bought it. In all honesty I wasn’t too sure whether it was a good brand or not. But being given this, this gave me the perfect opportunity to test out my misgivings and see if this was actually a good product.

What is this supposed to do?

This is a body scrub which is supposed to gently exfoliate, moisturise and not dry out the skin and foam all at the same time!

    Packaging

This scrub comes in a plastic flip top tube. The colouring of this (mainly a coral pink) reminds me of the brand Soap & Glory. But the pictures on this (palms trees, coconuts, flamingo) makes it more tropical looking. I don’t particular love how this is presented but it’s ok. It does catch your eye but possibly more for the younger market. It’s too busy for me and screams a fun product rather than hard working one.

    Fragrance

A slightly sugary but not too sweet coconut scent. Not very strong but enough to get a subtle hit. It doesn’t bowl me over, it’s just ok. I’ve smelt better from similar scented products before but I’ve also smelt worse.

    Consistency & Texture

Squeezed out of the tube, this scrub comes out quite thick and with hold. A super pretty pale pink colour and doesn’t look totally smooth thanks to the sugar crystals. But when you touch it, it sort of has a slightly sticky feel to it. It has some slip to it but more sticky than greasy.

    In Use

When I applied this to damp skin, I found that I needed to go back in for more of the scrub. Using a small amount wasn’t giving my body the coverage I needed so I went in a few times. I could feel the small and slightly sparse exfoliating particles in this but they didn’t feel effective enough while I was using this. With the heat of my body these slowly seemed to be less and disappear (the particles are sugar crystals).

On my skin this sugar scrub looked like a light veil of cream. Not a lot, but slightly. I THINK this was the scrub foaming, but foaming isn’t a word to describe it at all! More a milkiness that you get when using some scrubs when it mixes with the water from the dampness of the body.

The fragrance was there, pleasant enough. My skin after use didn’t feel dried out but also didn’t feel particularly moisturised or treated. Did it look or feel smoother? There wasn’t a noticeable difference from before using this scrub to after.

    Recommended?

I thought Dirty Works Foam At Last Coconut Foaming Sugar Scrub was ok. There was nothing about this product that made me go ‘wow’. From the packaging, fragrance, consistency or the result on my skin, it was just ok. I didn’t enjoy it or love using it. It just didn’t quite hit the mark for me. I’ve used better and cheaper body scrubs which were amazing, so I wouldn’t purchase this myself. This would probably suit more a pre-teen, teenager who wants to use something that’s fun but not looking for a particular result, if that makes sense? But for a serious body scrub lover or addict? Pass.

But if you were interested in purchasing this product, it’s available on the high street and online from various places such as Sainsbury’s and Amazon. For the 250g version (mine is 50g) this retails for around £4.50.

  • Palmer’s Coconut Sugar Facial Scrub

I love a good scrub! There is nothing more satisfying than scrubbing the face or the body and revealing soft and supple skin. As much as I love the process and the products I use, it’s something I wish I was more consist with. But I always get there eventually, and I couldn’t help but pick up Palmer’s Coconut Sugar Facial Scrub from Tesco on my latest shopping trip. Cost with Clubcard was £3.50, normal price £5.40.

    Palmer’s Coconut Sugar Facial Scrub
    Why did I buy this?

As a brand, I love Palmer’s! Always have. When I was a teen I was a regular user of their ever popular Cocoa Butter body lotion. Over the years their products have grown in variety and so has their subranges. Their Coconut Oil range has always caught my eye, and I’ve even tried their lip balm which I enjoyed using. But the skincare has been on my hitlist. So with the range being on special offer, I grabbed the scrub because I needed a new one and a good quality one to help condition and smooth out my skin during these wintery months. Good excuse to buy, right? So why not?

What is this supposed to do?

This scrub is designed to gently remove dirt and dead skin cells, leaving skin and it’s complexion to appear and feel better, fresher and brighter.

    Packaging.

90ml of scrub lives happily in a plastic, flip topped lidded tube. If you look at the labelling on this product this screams the Palmer’s brand but the colouring and use of neutrals and browns is how the Coconut range is designed so stands out.

    Fragrance.

Creamy, slightly sweetened and of course coconut scented. It’s pleasant, it’s not sickly and I really enjoy it.

    How to use.

Apply to wet face, massage into skin and rinse off.

    In Use.

I squirted out a decent amount of scrub to use. The texture looked lotion like which surprised me. I expected to see visible grains or for it to look somewhat lumpy which it didn’t. But applying this onto my face, gently, it was obvious there were grains inside it. There was quite a lot in fact. They felt relatively smooth and small as I moved this around my face. I could definitely feel the exfoliating action. Because there is a lot of grains in this, I’m glad I was slow using this because if I applied too much force or rushed the process, I think I could have hurt my skin.

The fragrance surprised me. My initial sniff before applying this was what I got in use. But I got something else as well while smothering my face with this. It had a delicate incense like hint to it, making it warming and fuller in scent. Dare I say almost a caramelised sugar type fragrance too? Whatever it is I adore it! And it made me think how much I need to grab the body lotion if the fragrance is identical or at least similar!

Rinsing off was easy. With most products I finish off gently patting my face with a damp and warmed face cloth. This helped get rid of a few lingering grains on my face and gave my skin added relief and comfort while finishing myself off.

    My skin afterwards.

My skin felt fresh, clean and quite smooth. I’m going to let you into a secret.Although I normally would cleanse my face before exfoliating, I couldn’t be bothered the first time I used this. So it had to clean my face, remove eye brow pencil and general dirt from the day which it did. My skin was spotless. Look wise it appeared matt but not dry, and my skin although feeling that slight clean sensation, wasn’t tight or irritated in anyway.

    Negatives?

Not negatives as such but more observations. Who creates products sized 90ml? It’s such an odd number! Make it 100ml and I’m happy! Personally I think the grains could be just that little bit smaller or slightly less grains in this scrub. This would mean you could use it faster without being too harsh.

    Recommended?

Exfoliators for the face and body need to do some simple tasks. Leave the skin feeling smooth and ideally look it too. Clean and fresh is up there as well. Gentle but thorough enough for the relevant part of the body. Not leave the skin sore and prep the skin ready for the next stage. oh…and don’t dry the skin out that’s a no no! If the product does all of the above it gets a thumbs up from me and this does. Easy to use, effective, affordable, comes in a range if you want matching products. And it smells so good! So if you love your physical exfoliates but don’t want to spend your whole paycheck on one, this could be the one for you!

If you fancy picking this up doing your grocery shop, head to Tesco. Available in store and online here. Special Clubcard promotion has recently ended, but worthwhile keeping an eye out for it in the future.

  • Tesco’s Kind & Pure Refreshing Face Scrub

I love skincare. It’s not something everyone is interested in but I am. I’m not a make up wearer, it’s too much faffing about for me. But in the same way people drool over eyeshadows and mascaras, I gasp over cleansers and eye creams. I want my skin to look good, and spending a little time and a little money on it won’t kill me in fact it brings me joy. So my current face scrub I’ve been using in my routine, along with trying out their cleanser, is Tesco’s Kind & Pure Face Scrub. It costs £1.50 for 150ml.

Why did I buy this one? I picked up the Tesco Cleansing Face Wash and realised for a total of £3.00 I could get the scrub to match it too! I actually needed a face scrub at the time and needed something affordable so thought I would see what this was like.

Tesco Kind & Pure Refreshing Face Scrub

What is this supposed to do? This range from Tesco focuses on sensitive skin. So this is designed to be kind and gentle. It helps to soften and smooth the skin thanks to it’s exfoliating action without causing irritation.

Packaging. Ties in nicely with the rest of the Kind & Pure range. Colourings are the same which is mint green, white and silver detailing. Scrub comes in the same flip top lidded tube as the wash, with all details on the back e.g ingredients.

Texture. It would be easy to mistake this for a body lotion. It’s white, opaque and came out of the tube with a little hold to it. A decent thickness consistency wise but not solid. You can’t see visible grains or pieces in this, but only when you spread it out do you feel and see the smallest white specks.

Fragrance. After using the co ordinating face wash, I expected there to be no scent to this, but there is one! It’s not highly fragranced and quite delicate, but there it is. This has a slight plant like base to it. I won’t say floral as it’s not that, but plant with the smallest sweetness to it. Fresh, clean, neutral. It’s quite unisex, not age specific and non offensive.

How to use ( as stated on packaging ). Wet face with warm water. Use a small amount, massage into face using upwards and outwards movements. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

In use. As per usual I probably used more than I should have which was a bit bigger than a 10p coin in size. But I did use this as suggested on the packaging. It felt very creamy on the skin, but I could also feel the grains and there was enough in the scrub for me to feel as if they were doing something. They didn’t hurt or irritate.

Skin afterwards. My face felt very refreshed after use. Clean, smooth, not stripped away of vital moisture so not dry. My skin didn’t look dramatically different, pretty much the same as if I had just washed it as usual if I’m honest. But it did feel good.

Tesco Kind & Pure Cleansing Face Wash and Refreshing Face Scrub

Recommended? Definitely! It’s a great budget friendly product that is easy to use, doesn’t dry out the skin and leaves it feeling smooth to touch. Some people might find this very basic but for the price what more can you ask for? Again, like the wash, nice starter face scrub for a young person e.g pre teen. Someone who wants to get into skincare but unsure what to go for and wants something simple. Those with sensitive skin and of course those who want to go for something inexpensive! Would I buy and use this again? I actually would! It did what it was designed to do with a nice fragrance to it. I would happily slip this in and out of my routine and great if on a serious beauty budget!

Want to cheaply scrub your face? Like the face wash this should be in stores ( possibly selected ones ) but definitely available online here.
