  • Is Primark’s PS Hydrating Coconut Cream Mask Really Hydrating?

I go through phases when it comes to using skincare masks. I’m either all over it and use one a couple of times a week, or I let time pass and forget about them. So if I do reach for one I’m obviously in need (or at least my skin is) and in the mask wearing mood! So I decided to grab Primark’s PS Hydrating Coconut Cream Mask that was given as a gift by a friend. Cost? Originally was 90p but on their website 80p.

Primark’s PS Hydrating Coconut Cream Mask
Why did I decide to use this?

Life has a habit of sucking your energy, soul and skin dry. Stress, work, weather, children, ageing, not enough sleep. Add all of these together and that’s where I am right now! My skin really just needs a skincare treat. I liked the look and sound of this and hydration is definitely something on my need list. Being a massive fan of coconut oil always is a winning factor, so I thought this would be a good one to use and try out for the first time.

What is this supposed to do?

This mask is supposed to hydrate the skin. So in theory should give the skin an instant sense of relief, making it feel and look smoother.

    Texture & Look

I assumed this would be cream like but a little thicker in texture but I was quite wrong. Texture wise this screamed clay based mask to me. It was thick, not loose at all. With clay masks they all have that ‘look’ and feel about them and this was the same. The only difference being this was white in colour, rather than the traditional greys/browns or black clay masks tend to come in.

    Fragrance

So no surprise to read this smells like coconut. Creamed coconut, a little sweet but not sickly or strong. In fact, the strength of this is quite subtle.

    Application

This should be placed on clean skin and left on for 15 minutes then washed off.

    In Use

Applying this, I realised this pretty much WAS a clay mask! Easy to place onto the skin but thick. Quite thick in fact that my usual brown skin had an opaque layer of white on it which steadily over the 15 minutes begin to look and feel as if it was drying out. It felt tight towards the end although not unpleasant. You do need to wash it off, not wipe off with a cloth, which I tried and failed with! But I actually enjoyed rinsing this off because the mask sort of became like a milky face cleanser. Easy enough to remove but needed more time spent on removing the mask around my hair line, nose and jaw.

After removal, my face looked smooth but a little dull in appearance. It also felt slightly tight and dry which was the totally opposite to what I wanted. Even after putting on a face cream it didn’t feel hydrated enough for me. The morning after the night before of using this I did have a good look at my face. Again, still looked and felt smooth (although texture wise at the moment I haven’t been suffering problems). But my skin didn’t feel more hydrated than usual.

    Recommended?

If you’re looking for a cream based face mask that will nourish your skin and moisturise it, I don’t think this will be for you. So those with dry skin, more mature skin and those that don’t like masks that dry will NOT like this in my opinion. But if you have oily or possibly combination skin, are a lover of clay masks and your skin loves clay masks, give it a go! This wasn’t for me, it wasn’t helpful to the current condition of my skin and failed to give me a nourishing feel on my skin.

  • Nip + Fab Glycolic Exfoliating Mask

If you like looking after your skin, is there currently one stage or product you are neglecting to use? At the moment I would say I need to slot in a skincare face mask twice a week just to give my face an added boost thanks to the current weather in the UK. But exfoliating is a stage for some reason over the last month or so I have been AWFUL with! So how about I kill two birds with one stone and go for something that can do both? So out of my skincare stash I dragged out NIP + FAB’s Glycolic Fix Exfoliating Mask. Can’t remember how much I paid for this towards the end of last year as it was on offer. But retails around the £7.00 mark.

    Nip+Fab Glycolic Exfoliating Mask

    Why did I buy this?

I’ve never tried products from this brand before, but I have noticed them. Their variety of products and ingredients have grabbed my interest. But price point for me meant anything bought from the range was a considered purchase. But a much easier one to make when on offer! So I opted for this because I didn’t even know you could exfoliate with a sheet mask and it intrigued me. I knew it would be useful in my routine, priced well and a good introduction to the range.

What does this supposed to do?

Think of this as being a skin exfoliator and a face skincare mask in one and this is what this is. The glycolic acid as an ingredient exfoliates the skin getting rid of the dead skin cells, leaving it looking and feeling smoother and less dull. Skin should feel rejuvenated and look more vibrant.

    Packaging.

Comes in a packet, which I think all tissue face masks come in as standard. Loved how brightly coloured this was (orange), very eye catching. Explains simply what this mask is supposed to do on the front and back, with relevant information such as ingredients and warnings clearly marked.

    How to use.

Apply onto clean skin. Avoid eye area. Leave on for 15-20 minutes. Remove and pat in any excess serum left on skin.

    How does it look?

Very much like most tissue face masks. White in colour, soft in texture and made from some form of material. Openings for eyes, nose and mouth are visible. Not the most attractive thing you will ever see but practical and created like this for it’s intended purpose.

    In use.

When I took this out of it’s packaging I was surprised how much solution this was covered in. It literally was DRIPPING with the stuff, so not skimping on it at all! Once I unfolded it I applied it to my face. Easy enough to do, I just took my time to make sure it was positioned properly. It clung comfortably to my face so I could get on with a few tasks over the 20 minutes. Very cooling on the skin, and felt very hydrating too.

And how did my skin look afterwards?

When I removed the mask, my skin did feel hydrated and clean. The immediate feel of hydration did die down somewhat and then was replaced with feeling as if it was still clean, but had something on my skin. To touch it, it felt a little tacky. But what I did notice was my sweaty looking skin (thank you heat!) now appeared matt and the shine taken away from the majority of my face.

Next day was where I could see my skin had benefited from using this product. It did seem a little smoother and fresher looking. I liked how it seemed more rested and less lifeless than it did before using the mask.

    Something unexpected?

The day after using this mask it was a crazy hot day in the UK, around 30 degrees. I did a lot of walking outside that day. When I did my evening skincare routine, I cleansed my face which felt very very sore. It’s not something I’ve experienced before. I was wearing sun cream of spf50 but I suspect it needed reapplying which I didn’t…So either the sun had totally fried me or the combo of mask and sun made my skin sensitive. Can’t be 100% sure, so will leave a question mark on that. But I know when using products with glycolic acid in it, they mention the need to use sun care products alongside them. And this product had it on it’s packaging also. So if you use this, please make sure you use sun protection if venturing outside!

    Would I buy this again?

Putting to one side sun hating face, I may or may not buy this again. If I did, it would be once in a blue moon, special occasion type purchase. It would be for a treat for the skin, no more no less. I found the results on my skin were visible for around a day. Sun, heat, lack of sleep and wearing face coverings makes my skin hard work so I got a decent amount of time looking better. But for a regular purchase, price wise, not for me. Not full price anyway. I also think I would prefer an exfoliator that was in a more physical form such as a liquid, cream, tonic etc. And if using a mask after, probably a separate one.

    Recommended?

I think this is an interesting and unusual product, at least compared to what I’ve bought and used before. If you are time starved, don’t want to use multiple products and you really enjoy skincare then yes, I would recommend this. Easy to use, quite effective but results may not be instant or long lasting. Think of this as a perk to the skin. Price wise, this may put some people off as it’s a one use item, but if you fancy a splurge or to give as a gift….?

Can be purchased from Look Fantastic, ASOS and more. Happy exfoliating!

  • Revolution Skincare London’s Calming Overnight Face Mask

Have you ever found your skincare products have stopped working? No longer providing you with the results you had before? If my skincare routine isn’t as effective as it usually is I adjust it rather than completely change it. Slipping a new product into my routine can make a difference instead of buying a whole regime. Using a skincare mask for me is an easy addition to help my skin when it just needs something extra and a little gentle help. That’s why I’ve recently added Revolution Skincare London‘s Calming Overnight Face Mask to my routine to see if it would help. Has it?

Revolution Skincare London’s Calming Overnight Face Mask
    Why did I buy this?

A few months ago I bought this face mask with the matching cleansing oil and moisturiser. My skin felt a little run down and thought this could be a good range to use if and when needed. I have zero energy or drive to mess about with different lotions and potions, and thought this would be a good product to use quickly and easily and hope for results at the end of it all.

What is this supposed to do?

Revolution Skincare London’s Calming Overnight Face Mask is a face mask you apply at night to leave on while you sleep. It’s light weight in texture, and designed to soothe the skin, relax it and help it get back to normal.

    Packaging

50ml of mask comes in a small dark glass pot, with screw top lid. The pink and white label on the pot makes it stand out and the look is mirrored with the cardboard box this pot comes in. Very clean and simple in look.

    Fragrance

Identical to the cleansing oil. I actually forgot how much I liked the fragrance! This has a little floral sweetness to it, but still remains quite clean in scent and inoffensive.

    Consistency & texture

This is light weight. It’s white in colour and although doesn’t look it in the jar, is quite loose in consistency. When you rub it in it does so super quickly. No hard work needed.

    How to use

Apply onto clean skin. Leave on over night. Use 2 to 3 times a week.

    On the skin

I used this after I cleansed and exfoliated, so my skin was clean. I applied a thin layer of this onto my skin, and noticed it sank in straight away. Skin looked matt once absorbed and not shiny. It didn’t feel heavy, and once applied it felt as if t could easily have been a normal day cream. And then I went to bed!

The morning after the night before

I won’t lie I was a little disappointed. I was hoping my skin would at least feel or/and look dewy and hydrated and it didn’t. Although I didn’t think it felt dry and tight, I also didn’t feel I had used any form of special treatment on the skin. My face looked and felt no different to before using this.

    Recommended?

I loved the cleansing oil from this range and thought I would love this too but I don’t. I just don’t think this is the mask for me at the moment. My skin isn’t getting enough benefit using it and I will put this to one side and use another time. The only thing my skin is suffering from is being dehydrated ( I blame weather and masks! ) and tired. And for me I need something much more protective and moisturising, which this isn’t.

So not my mask of choice right now, but for those who are experiencing skin that I would describe as playing up and having a mind of it’s own, I think this is more for you than me. But f your skin is dry, aged, lagging…this I don’t think will be your best choice. It just proves one side doesn’t fit all, but thankfully Revolution have a great variety of masks for various skin types so plenty to chose from.

Normally this retails for £7.99, but at the time of writing this post direct from Superdrug, they have this on a 3 for 2 deal on some facial products. Or from Revolution direct it’s £5.60. And a quick heads up….Revolution have 25% off everything which ends 20th October 8am BST ( using code REV25 ) SO HAPPY SHOPPING! ( Check their FB page for details ).

  • The Surprising Nails Inc Night Night Soothing Face Mask

Nails Inc are a brand that are known for their nail polishes and nail/hand treatments. But did you know they also have their own skincare products, in the form of masks? I’ve had their Night Night Soothing Face Mask in my skincare stash for awhile and thought it was time to actually use it. So what is it like?

Nails Inc Night Night Soothing Hydro Night Mask
What is this supposed to do?

This mask is designed to be used over night and gives the skin a fresher look and feel. It helps the skin to recover from stresses and pollutants it comes across during the day.

    Packaging

The mask comes in a little pot which sits in a cardboard sleeve. The pot has a lid that pulls back so you can the use the mask.

    Texture & Consistency

This is similar to in texture and consistency to a gel serum. White in colour, quite thick, smooth has a waxiness to it.

    Fragrance

The scent of Night Night Soothing Face Mask is delicate but beautifully clean, floral with a slight sweetness to it. This smelt more like a body lotion than a facial product and I found it so enjoyable to smell.

    How to apply

Onto clean skin, massage a thin layer of mask over the face. Leave on over night and cleanse as usual the following morning.

    In use

You get 10 ml of product which is one application. I felt that was a lot of mask to put on my face so used only one third. This was enough to give me a thin layer over my face and neck. Easy to apply, very quick and clear with no colour on the skin. It felt as if I had applied a night cream onto the face because of it’s texture. To look at my skin it was obvious something was on it because there was a slight shine to it but didn’t look oily. The scent from the mask wasn’t obvious and perfect strength while on.

I expected this to sink in after a few minutes which it didn’t. After accidentally touching my face a couple of hours after applying this, I found the feel of the mask still there.

The morning after the night before

My skin didn’t dramatically change when I woke up. But I did expect the mask to have sunk in, which surprisingly it didn’t…well not totally anyway! My face still felt as if there was something on it as there was a light waxiness to it. My skin wasn’t matt in look, it looked like I had face cream on it. It felt very nourished and treated.

    Recommended?

100%! This is an easy and quick skincare face mask to use when you need your skin to be treated. Great scent, the mask provides protection and hydration, what more do you need? Perfect mask for the lazy skin care lover. Unfortunately, this mask is no longer available but Nails Inc have other skincare mask treats available here at various prices.
