  • Budget Friendly The Inkey List’s Vitamin B, C & E Moisturizer

I promised myself this year I would be more intentional with my purchases, especially where skincare was concerned. They needed to be purchased because they served a purpose, not because they were new, packaged nicely or I just ‘liked the sound or look of it’. Have I succeeded? Well, I’ve definitely tried! I bought The Inkey List’s Vitamin B, C and E Moisturizer hoping it would fill a gap in my skincare routine. This was on sale for less than £5.00 for 50ml from the website Look Fantastic.

    The Inkey List’s Vitamin B, C and E Moisturizer
    Why did I buy this?

I tend to use my Aveeno lotion on my face as well as my body most of the time. It’s such a great product but I wanted something that would be just as good, hydrating and affordable. My skin sometimes needs something with a more varied mix of ingredients to help with day to day concerns compared to Aveeno, and I hoped this would do that job.

What is this supposed to do?

Ideal for normal skin, this moisturiser contains ingredients which the skin needs to be healthy. The combination of vitamin’s B, C and E helps to brighten and smooth skin along with provide hydration.

    Texture

This is an interesting one. I expected a cream and found a hybrid between a gel and a cream. Quite light weight but still had a decent thickness to it.

    Fragrance

Smells of nothing as it’s fragrance free!

    On the skin

I found I didn’t need to use too much of this. Half a finger tip felt too much but a little less is ideal. This rubbed into my skin well (if I didn’t use too much!), light weight and felt less gel like on the skin and more cream when applied. It sinks in quickly and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth. When I use this I do find my skin feels a touch tacky, but it doesn’t cause any issues because other products tend to be placed on top of this e.g sun cream.

This has been a great moisturiser to use when I’m layering it with other products. Vitamin C serum, rosehip oil, sun cream (not all at once or in that order!) are all products I’ve used alongside this and found it wasn’t too much or too heavy. On it’s own, I feel my skin needs a little more moisture generally. But with more humid weather at the moment it seems to be fine.

Who would this be good for?

I think this would be good for someone who wants something simple, easy to use, lightweight on the skin but delivers a decent amount of moisture. And, if like me, you’re layering different products and don’t want something too heavy or greasy this could be a good edition. Ideal for Summer time use as well if your skin naturally is more oilier. This would suit someone who doesn’t have major concerns and just wants to maintain their skin and keep it it a decent condition. I can see this being a good buy for pre-teens and teenagers.

    Recommended?

This is a good, cost effective moisturiser which I think many people would appreciate in their skincare routine. It’s the standard size for a moisturiser so should last a a few months, if used morning and night. No fragrance, good ingredients (glycerin, coconut oil, sunflower seed oil etc) and budget friendly. So if this suits your skin and it’s needs give this a go. Best price for this product at the time of writing this post is from Look Fantastic at £4.79 but can be purchased from many retailers such as Boots, Cult Beauty and Amazon.

  • Palmer’s Coconut Oil Body Lotion

There is one thing I am good at and do without fail when it comes to body care. I am a dedicated user of a body moisturiser. Whether it’s a lotion, cream, soufflé, butter, whatever it is, I apply one twice a day everyday. There is nothing worse than having dry skin on the body. For me, it doesn’t look good which doesn’t make me feel good. My current body moisturiser I’m using is Palmer’s Coconut Oil Body Lotion. I bought this from Home Bargains for £2.79 for 350ml.

    Palmer’s Coconut Oil Body Lotion
    Why did I buy this?

The Palmer’s Coconut range has always intrigued me. I’ve seen it dotted around various shops and it’s something I’ve wanted to try for awhile now. Over the years I’ve used lots of products from Palmers, including their iconic Cocoa Butter Lotion, so I wanted to see if this was just as good as that. Coconut Oil Lip Balm, Facial Scrub and Balm are all products I’ve used and liked, so of course I had to add this to my Coconut Collection!

What does this body lotion supposed to do?

Moisturise the skin thanks to it’s rich texture, and containing fatty acids and proteins which help keep skin in great condition.

    Consistency

Typical body lotion like. It’s not too thick and it’s not too thin. Like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, it’s just right!

    Fragrance

Love love love how this smells! Using other products fro the range made me hope this smelt the same as them, and it does! It has a slight coconut scent to it. But imagine it’s lightly toasted with a touch of brown sugar and a little vanilla and that’s the only way I can describe it. Don’t think this is a sickly sweet scent because it’s not. And it’s not strong either. It’s warming, it’s comforting and the strength is perfect.

    In use

I’m very generous when it comes to using body lotions, but found I didn’t need much to cover my whole body with this one. Even when I’ve used too much this doesn’t take a massive effort to work into the skin. The feeling on my body was a sense of being moisturised but not greasy or oil. And looking at my skin this reflected the same thing. My skin felt soft and smooth after application which is what I always want.

Fragrance wise, I can’t help but keep smelling when I’m using this body lotion because it’s just so good. I find it stays on my skin for hours although it’s light and not heavy. It doesn’t clash with any other fragranced product I use alongside it and it makes this a pleasure to use because of how it smells.

I can use this in the morning or before bed, and hours later my skin is still hydrated look and feel wise. No ashy skin on this body!

It’s taken me so long to buy and use this product, and the wait was worthwhile! I LOVE this body lotion. It’s thick enough to do the job it’s designed to do but it’s formulation is quite light weight and non sticky. Perfect when you need a lotion to be effective and to be used quickly when you’re in a rush. And the scent…not everyone will love this because fragrance is a personal thing. But very few people WON’T like how this smells. Recommended? Oh yes it is! Buy it, use it and love it.

Great thing about this body lotion and other products in this range, is it’s available in so many places. Supermarkets, discount stores etc, so you won’t have trouble grabbing this ready to keep your skin in tip top condition.

  • Superdrug’s Naturally Radiant 2 in 1 Moisturiser & Serum

When you love skincare but don’t have a massive budget, you need to look at different brands with lower price points. Many stores have their own ranges, which most of the time are very affordable and can be just as good as bigger brands. One store that has their own range of skincare products is Superdrug, including their Naturally Radiant 2 in 1 Moisturiser & Serum. But is it any good?

    Superdrug’s Naturally Radiant 2in1 Moisturiser & Serum
    Why did I buy this?

This product, along with others from this range, regularly are on special promotions e.g half price, buy one get one free. When they’re half price and the products sound interesting, it makes buying them very appealing, so I bought this! It sounded good, easy to slot into my skincare routine and affordable. BOUGHT!

What is this supposed to do?

Naturally Radiant 2 in 1 Moisturiser & Serum is supposed to give the skin a natural radiance and even out skin tone. It also provides hydration in a light weight formulation the skin will love.

    Packaging

50ml of Naturally Radiant 2 in 1 Moisturiser & Serum comes in a pump action bottle. Like the rest of the range, because of its colouring (green) and simplistic labelling, the appearance fits in well within the ‘natural’ skincare type niche.

    Consistency & Texture

This reminds me of moisturising gels. This product is white but has a slight sheerness to it. Its very light in texture, and looks like a cross between a face cream and a gel.

    Fragrance

The fragrance of this is identical to the other products I’ve tried in this range. Its quite fresh and clean in scent. There is a subtle flowery and sweetness to it which makes it very pleasant.

    How to use

2 to 3 pumps of product applied to cleansed face and neck, using circular motions every morning.

    On the skin

When applied onto my skin, I didn’t need much. It was easy and quick to apply and sank in immediately. This is one of those products that feels very light on the skin, almost as if nothing has been applied to it, but obviously there had been. My skin looked matt, but not dry, and felt slightly hydrated.

I can’t say whether this helped to even out my skin tone. At the time of using Naturally Radiant 2 in 1 Moisturiser & Serum, my skin was very even in colouring and texture. But as a product, I enjoyed using it, slotted into my routine well, gave my skin a nice feel but I didn’t suffer massive skin issues for me to see big changes.

    Recommended?

This is a good product for a few different people, in my opinion:

    1. Younger people ( teens to 30 ) who don’t have particular concerns with their skin and want a good quality product that’s easy and quick to apply.
    2. Men. They want to use skincare but need something that sinks in quickly and no messing about with numerous products.
    3. Budget. You’re on a budget and you don’t want to buy a face cream and a serum and overall don’t want to spend lots of money.
    4. Multi purpose needed and time starved. Pretty much as above but you’re one of those people who has literally 5 mins in the morning to get dressed and out of the door AND sort your face out.
    5. Summer. Lighter textures are great when the season is warmer and heavier textured products don’t sit as comfortably on skin as they do during cooler/colder times.
    Would I buy this again?

Not sure. For what it is, its a decent moisturiser. And at certain times this would be very handy as mentioned in warmer weather. But I prefer to apply a separate serum and facial cream so I can tailor it to what my skin needs. I don’t think my skin would massively benefit from using this, or massively miss out.

If this sound like an ideal skin care product for you, visit Superdrug online or instore . *At time of writing this post, this product is £8.99 and on buy one get one free promotion which can be mixed and match through the Naturally Radiant range.

  • SBC’s Coconut & Plumeria Shimmer Skincare Gel

We seem to be getting a last wind of Summer here in the UK thanks to some heat and sun. How long this will last for who knows, but no doubt if it’s dry and pleasant we will all enjoy it while we can. One body product I’ve been using on and off depending on the weather has been SBC’s Coconut & Plumeria Shimmer Skincare Gel. I originally bought this as a 4 piece set from the shopping channel QVC when it was a TSV ( Today’s Special Value ) a few months ago.

SBC’s Coconut & Plumeria Shimmer Skincare Gel
    What is this?

It’s a gel you put on the skin and it gives the skin a shimmer effect while providing moisture.

    Packaging

This gel comes in different sizes but mine is 500ml. Housed in a tall plastic bottle with a pump action dispenser. Totally clear, with a simple picture on the front giving an idea on what the scent of this is, along with product name and on the back ingredients list and directions to use.

    Appearance & Consistency

Not typical of the other SBC gels I’ve used in the past. They’ve been semi translucent but with colour. This one is a pearly white colour because of the shimmer in it, so definitely has a opalescence appearance. Texture is part lotion part gel. It holds its form to a degree when pumped out but very loose when rubbed in.

    Fragrance

You wouldn’t guess how this smells with the name it has, or at least I didn’t! This is quite earthy in scent. Earthy in a plant way more than flowery but very clean. The coconut element is there but minus the sweetness and is probably the last thing you can smell once inhaled. I think this helps to give it a slight creaminess to it rather than tropical fruit. Very unusual and not something I’ve smelt scent wise before.

    On the body

Very easy and quick to apply because of how fluid it was. It literally moved over the skin and rubbed in like a dream, and sunk in super fast. You don’t need much but you really can’t overdo it, and I found it easy to layer this up if and when I needed added moisture. I would say my skin tends to be normal and occasionally dry but at the moment no issues with dryness, so this gave me the hydration I needed and skin felt very moisturised after application.

It didn’t leave a tacky layer on the skin which meant I could get dressed straight away. Skin felt soft and smooth but appeared matt and not greasy. I would suggest not to dump a massive amount of this on the body. Three pumps for the whole body was ample for me. The thicker the layer the longer it will sink in so less is more. Need more? Apply thin layers one after the other.

    Shimmer, Shimmer!

This sounds crazy but I totally forgot this had a shimmer to it. I didn’t really focus on this when looking at the gel in the bottle or even when first pumped out. It was only when both myself and my 10 year old son had used it one evening after a shower and he sat next to me. We both looked at each other’s arms and I felt like we were part of the Cullen family from Twilight! To say this kept us entertained is an understatement!

It really glistens in the light. Its so pretty as its fine and delicate as the particles are so tiny, but really gives you a classy bling covering without over or under doing it. And….. it last forever! It doesn’t matter if you’ve put sun cream over the top, got dressed and clothes have touched the skin, it’s still there. It comes off when you want it to though e.g having a bath or shower so not permanent.

Now…. I LOVE this gel! The scent is very different. The texture makes it a dream to apply. Ideal for summer thanks to how lightweight it is and the shimmer effect.

The scent is something that some people will like and some won’t. It took me by surprise as it didn’t smell like how I imagined it would but its very much grown on me. And because its very different I love it! This doesn’t smell tropical more botanical. For the shimmer alone in my opinion its worth every penny. Want to ‘ shine like a diamond ‘ and try this out? You can buy this direct from SBC here in different sizes starting from 100ml ( on offer at time of writing this post ) priced at £4.50 to £15.00 ( 500ml ), or visit QVC where they have this product on its own or in various sets ready for you to experience.
