  • What My Kids Bought Me For Mother’s Day

Whether Mother’s Day is an occasion you celebrate or not, it’s one day in a year that many people buy gifts for their mum’s, grandmother’s and other female relatives in the family. Is it easy to buy for these special women in our lives? Sometimes it is. But the shops online and in stores are ready to throw everything and anything at the public to purchase anything mildly floral, pink in colour or have the word ‘MUM’ emblazed on it. My kids were sweet enough to buy me gifts this year. So what did my teens buy me, not including the obligatory chocolate and sweets?

The Wizard Bath Bomb from Lush

My daughter knows I love baths and we both love the film Wicked. She went into LUSH, found something shiny and Wicked connected and bought it (her words not mine). This is quite a weighty rounded bath bomb, which is striking thanks to it’s eye catching gold colour. The bath bomb has an image of the Wizard, from the film, almost carved into it. Slightly sinister in look but incredibly fun and different. Fragrance is quite earthy, a bit plant like and unusual but very nice.

    ASDA’s Flower Market Reed Diffuser

My son sneakily took a solo trip to our local ASDA and picked this up along with the candle counterpart. The box this comes in along with the diffuser bottle both have flower images on them, which makes it look incredibly pretty. Perfect for Mother’s Day gifting. Designed to last up to 8 weeks, I can’t wait to use this in my bedroom.

    ASDA’s Flower Market Scented Candle

This is in the same fragrance as the reed diffuser and comes in a large, glass jar with a wooden lid. Same labelling. The jar is clear but pink in colour and this is a whooping size (size/weight not on label but it’s massive). Unlike the reed diffuser I can get the smell of this by simply taking the lid of and its beautiful! It’s a sweet, feminine floral mixed in with a creamy citrus and it’s sooo good! Not an old fashioned or boring floral but a modern yet classic floral all at the same time.

I think my kids did very well with these gifts! Whatever they bought me I would have appreciated. But I can tell they both put some thought into what they bought and asked the important question of ‘will my mum like this?’, especially where the home fragrance products are concerned. AND they didn’t spend a small fortune too! Well done kids!

  • Champneys Health Spa Calming Incense Gift

Is it just me but is life a little stressful at the moment? Human beings have this amazing capacity to get through everything and anything. But it doesn’t mean that the journey between A and B isn’t hard. I can hold my hands up and say I’m one of those people trying to get to B the best way I can. Any opportunity where I can lift my mood and keep my emotions calm and positive in a simple way I will. So thank goodness for Champneys Health Spa Calming Incense Gift which I received last year for my birthday, because right now I need calming!

Champneys Health Spa Calming Incense Gift
    Why did I use this?

I need to relax. I’ve always found home fragrance helps me to unwind when I’m at home. Instead of grabbing my usual wax melts I wanted to use and try something totally different and this was it.

    What is this?

Champneys Health Spa Calming Gift Set is a simple and stylish why of using traditional incense sticks. You light one of the incense sticks while it’s held in the holder it comes with and it releases fragrance.

    What do you get?

20 incense sticks and one incense stick holder.

    How does this look?

The packaging for this is simple but very stylish. Both the incense sticks and the holder are boxed separately. The pale pink and green small boxes they come in look nice and overall packaging makes it look quite expensive. The incense stick holder is cream in colour and ceramic and would fit into any room and any decor. Great presentation.

    Fragrance

This is quite woody and warming in fragrance. I want to say there’s a floral in this but it comes across more plant like rather than flowers, if that makes sense? There’s a sweetness to this which works well and stops this scent from being too hard or male fragrance like.

    In Use

Once the incense stick was lit it took 30 minutes for it to totally burn out and disappear. During this time it provided a lovely, comforting and cosy feel to my living room thanks to the fragrance. I was worried it would be heady, as lots of incense sticks tend to be, but this wasn’t. It was strong enough to create a scent which even floated into another room. But it wasn’t overpowering and didn’t make me feel as if I had entered a church. The fragrance lasted after the incense stick had gone for about an hour, but there was still a faint trace of the smell much later.

One thing I was worried about was the incense holder. Would it be large enough to catch any of the incense stick’s ash when it fell away? Not quite. Some of the ash didn’t stay in the flat part of the holder and fell onto the cabinet which this was sitting on. So it should have been slightly larger and you would need something resting under this to protect your surfaces.

    Recommended?

I used incense sticks YEARS ago and using this made me remember that. I love how Champneys Health Spa Calming Incense Gift is packaged. The fragrance is lovely, definitely calming and not too strong. And the holder looks simple but elegant. The only drawback is it should have been a touch bigger to catch any falling ash. But overall this is a great set. I would definitely recommended this for someone who likes this form of home fragrance or you want to introduce something different to someone who hasn’t experienced this before.

This set costs £10.00 and can be bought directly from Champneys here.

  • A Budget Best Buy? Primark’s PS Strawberry Bubble Bar

I am a sucker for a pretty bath product! Something that looks good will have me reaching for my my wallet quicker than a chocolate bar entering my mouth. It can’t be helped. I’ve mentioned before one of my favourite things to throw in the bath is a bubble bar. So it’s no wonder my last trip to Primark resulted in me buying their Lemon Bubble Bar AND their Strawberry Bubble Bar. Both at the time cost £2.00.

    Primark’s PS Strawberry Bubble Bar
    Why did I buy this?

Just look at the pics on this post! Firstly, I love bubble bars because hey tend to be more moisturising, more luxurious and for me more enjoyable to use in the bath compared to a bath bomb. This one got picked up because although it’s not very intricate in look, and void of glitter or detail, it still is very cute and inviting. And THOSE are the reasons I grabbed it!

    What does it look like?

Firstly, can I just say this is a sizeable bubble bar. It’s not small! 11cm in length and at it’s widest point just over 6 cm. Depth is over 2 cm so this is a chunk of a bar and weighs 150g! And what does this look like? Lips! This bubble bar is shaped like lips in a pretty shade of pink. There’s no other detail to it, it’s all in the shape. Not chalky in look and feel as a bath bomb would be. Solid, but this could easily have been made out of some kid’s dough, plasticine type crafting material etc.

    Fragrance

This had a more cherry scent to it rather than strawberry. It was nice, fruity, not too sweet but strawberry wasn’t what sprang to mind the first time I gave this a quick sniff once I took it out of the plastic.

    How to use

Break up under warm running water and enjoy.

    In the bath

I crumbled half of this bubble bar into the bath. The bubble bar itself looks so solid and it is, but when crumbled has a softer texture to it. It created bubbles straight away while it was thrown under the warm running water. I was actually surprised how many bubbles were created and how soft, fluffy and airy they were! Underneath the surface the bath was a shade of soft pink. Overall a very inviting bath to look at.

I really wish the fragrance was stronger! It had a little more strength to it unused than it did in the water which I wished was the other way round. It was exceptionally soft and needed more presence for me to really enjoy it. That’s my personal preference. Some people like soft scents, others want their head’s blown off. I’m probably somewhere in the middle.

The bubbles stayed in tact for roughly ten minutes and it didn’t take them long to disappear, leaving the soft pink bath water behind. I sat there, read as usual, and tried to chill out. It was pleasant enough, no issues with my skin in or out. Was it the best bath I’ve ever had? No. But it wasn’t awful. I got out of the bath thinking this could have been really REALLY good. But in all honesty you would probably be paying more than £2.00 for that type of experience, surely?

Now my answer depends on what it is you want and how much you want to pay. For how much this cost this is absolutely fine. You want something that looks nice, possibly to be in a gift hamper or something to use in the bath like you would a normal bubble bath then this will do. This also proves if you are on a budget, you can have an affordable bath treat. But if you want something special, to the point your eyes explode with sheer delight and you feel like a Princess in the bath, this won’t be for you.

Would I buy this again? I’ve tried this one and the Lemon version and I’m happy with trying them and I don’t need to repurchase because I know what experience I will have. I’ve given them a go, pleasant enough, but I want and need something more special in my bath.

  • Dirty Fresh Cosmetics Fairy Godmother Bath Bar

I don’t think you need a special event or day to give a gift, whether that’s a gift to yourself or someone else. But there are certain times when people do want to mark a special occasion and give out thoughtful tokens and presents. With Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day only around the corner, I wanted to make some suggestions of some products that would put a smile on someone’s face (or your own). So let’s focus a few minutes on on Dirty Fresh Cosmetics Fairy Godmother Bath Bar. I bought this last year and it costs £3.99 for a full bar, or £1.99 for half.

    Fairy Godmother Bath Bar
    Why did I buy this?

For myself to indulge in a bath or ten of course! I made one order from Dirty Fresh Cosmetics last year which included various bath products. I love bath bars because they are a little different from a typical bath bomb. The look and description of this was very appealing and I just thought it sounded like something I would like.

    What does this look like?

Rectangular in shape and takes up the whole length of my palm. So this is a really good sized bath bar. An eye catching mix of white, a purply/pink colour and a slightly paler shade of that. These three strands of colour make wavy stripe patterns going across this bar. It has a solid and chalky like texture to it.

    Fragrance

My first thought when I gave this a sniff was how it reminded me of a bag of sweeties. Not just one type but literally a mix of them. Sugary and fruity but not too much and very pleasant. Not a pungent, in your face scent, but there.

    In the bath

I popped this on top of a bath that was already filled with warm water, and wow did this bath bar enjoy the swim (and so did I!). It moved around, it bubbled and it fizzed. The colour coming from this was insane! Streams of purple and white foam came out of this, making the water so vibrant and eye popping, it was amazing!

The fragrance was there. It didn’t make a massive impact by being strong, but it was there. Not too soft and identical to what I smelt before it went into the water. I enjoyed it. And yes, for me, it could have been stronger. Not every bath product should or need to be a fragrance power house but my nose can handle more. Would this have been stronger in scent if I had used this straight away when purchased? No idea. But the overall quality of this bath bar overall was very good.

Getting out of the bath, mind, body and soul was totally relaxed. My skin has been a little temperamental of late, but this bath bar didn’t cause it any issues. Importantly, it didn’t dry my skin out.

I’ve used quite a few bath products from Dirty Fresh Cosmetics and I’ve enjoyed each and every one of them. Price wise this isn’t expensive and priced quite well considering what it is and the size of it. And there’s a more affordable option of buying half a bar, which is still enough for one bath. It looks and smells great and creates a really enjoyable bathing experience, which is what anyone wants from this type of product. If you were to slip this into a hamper with other pampering goodies, or give it solo, for any bath lover they would love this the way I did I believe. So why would I NOT recommend this? Did I also mention what a pretty bath this created?

If you love you bath art this is one for you and you can get it from their website here. If you’re looking for bath products, specifically Valentine’s Day themed, they do have a collection available as well.
