  • Primark Bergamot & Amber Reed Diffuser

I’ve become a little obsessed with reed diffusers lately. Don’t ask me why I just have. It’s another form of getting my home fragrance fix and I’m enjoying it. About 2 months ago I bought 2 Primark Mini Reed Diffusers. Unfortunately, I found them to be very disappointing. So while buying a birthday gift for a friend more recently, I decided to pick up a full size of Bergamot & Amber hoping this would give me a better experience than my last. This costs £2.50 for 100ml and came in a variety of different fragrances.

Why did I go for this one?

I smelt the candle form of this and really liked the fragrance. So when I went to look at the reed diffuser version I have to say the packaging caught my eye, along with the price, so thought I would give it a go and prayed this would be half decent.

    Packaging.

The reed diffuser comes boxed. Quite a sizeable, rectangular, cardboard box which is pretty standard for this type of thing. But it’s the colours of this box that spoke to me! An ombre of off white from the bottom heading towards the top into an almost golden burnt orange colour. Text sets it off as its in black and gold. Striking yet simple.

The diffuser itself is glass, cylinder shape but short and chunky with the labelling a similar colour and effect as the box. The diffuser itself looks beautiful and well presented in and out of box.

    What do you get?

The glass jar with the fragranced oil in it, 6 long reeds and an instruction leaflet.

    How to use.

Unscrew the cap around the top of the jar. Remove the little plug out of the middle of the jar. Put the cap back on and slot the reeds in the middle. Turn the reeds around every week or so to fully immerse in oil and enjoy. Is designed to last 6-8 weeks.

    Fragrance.

This is quite warming yet refreshing all at the same time. There’s a slightly spicy citrus element in this. It’s not sharp and acidic but energising and uplifting. A little musk gives it depth and with a slight sweet edge to it, makes me think this could easily be a perfume.

    In use. Strength & Longevity?

So, it took me about an hour to get the scent of this. Originally I put this in the downstairs toilet and as I walked in I smelt something faint but very comforting. It just gave this small but perfectly formed room a lift that wasn’t obvious. I then moved it in my bedroom which is much more sizable, just to see if the fragrance could still be detected and it was. The look of this in this space was super stylish and fitted in perfectly with my gold/bronze accents.

Strength I would say is light to a near medium at rare times. There are times this would be in my bedroom and the scent is quite prominent. Then it’s faint. Sat on a window it could be both. You really do have to play with positions for placement. But consistently it is light but I can smell the scent. I haven’t been using this for 8 weeks less than 2. So how long this will throw a fragrance I can’t tell you yet but so far it’s been ok.

If you want something not heavy and intense this would be it. Personally, I think it’s better suited to smaller rooms as bigger ones it will struggle. But sometimes a scent doesn’t have to pack a punch to be noticed or nice but it does need to be there which this was. I would have LOVED this to be a little more stronger! It’s such a gorgeous scent it deserves it. And if it was I would be buying this in multiples I promise you! But considering how much you pay for this, and the look, it evens itself out in my opinion.

    Recommended?

Tough to answer! I stress, if you want the HULK of reed diffusers in regards to power this isn’t it. Are you happy for this to go in small spaces such as a toilet, spare room, cupboard or even a caravan then yes. The fragrance is glorious I love it. The look is perfect and the price is low. But I guess you have to take into account the low cost may influence the strength and quality of this.

So think carefully if you pick this reed diffuser up when you are out buying a t-shirt, leggings or sunglasses in Primani. I’m still not sure.

  • Desire Magnolia & Mulberry Reed Diffuser

Normally when it comes to home fragrance, I will head straight into my stash of wax melts. The amount of scents I have means I am spoilt for choice on a daily basis. But I am beginning to fall in love with reed diffusers. It makes a nice change from wax, and visually these really can be a statement piece. I’m very lucky I received Desire Magnolia & Mulberry Reed Diffuser from my neighbour for Christmas 2020, and decided recently to get this opened and use it.

Desire Magnolia & Mulberry Reed Diffuser

Why did I use this? I can’t comment why this was BOUGHT for me. I can only guess my neighbour thought it would be a nice gift. But why I chose to use this was because there are certain areas I can’t use a wax warmer in, but I still wanted fragrance e.g toilet, bathroom, hallway etc. I thought this could do the job perfectly for those awkward areas and rooms..

What do you get? The actual reed diffuser itself which contains the fragranced oil. 6 reeds and a small instructions leaflet.

How does this look? I’ve seen lots of reed diffusers before but never like this one. This reed diffuser is a clear, glass bottle ( rectangular in shape ), which houses the fragranced oil ( 200ml ). The area where you pop the reeds in has a gold cover around the neck of the bottle. You can see through the glass that it doesn’t just contain oil, but actual plants, flowers etc as well. This makes me think of infused cooking oils you can buy that contain things to fragrance it such as herbs and spices. Visually it’s gorgeous! The oil itself is golden in colour and the flowers are autumnal in colours, so oranges, reds and browns.

This reed diffuser came boxed. Beautifully packaged with lots of flowers, plants and leaves illustrated all over it. A cut out window at the front so the diffuser itself is visible.

How to use. Unscrew the gold section around the neck of the bottle off, and in the middle of the bottle is a stopper/plug. Take this out and pop in the reeds that comes with it and enjoy!

Scent. This is a gorgeous fragrance. Its a lovely mix of fruity and floral. You get almost a dark berry type scent floating through this which is quite rich and warming. Equally matched by a floral which is clean and fresh. Overall this scent is sweet, sophisticated and delightful. Genuinely, unless you totally despise the fruit and floral family fragrance wise in every way, shape, or form, most people would love this!

In use. Instructions say allow the reeds to soak up the oil within 24 to 36 hours, so I expected nothing to happen during this time period. I decided to put this in my downstairs toilet. I hoped neither child in the house would mess about with this, if it was strategically tucked away with candles on the windowsill.

The fragrance came through after the first hour of setting it up, and it was done in such a natural and cosy way. It wasn’t strong but it smelt so good in the small space. I got hints of it while in there and wondered where such a lovely smell had come from.

Strength & Longevity. Strength I would say is a medium. Would this change in a larger or smaller space? I don’t know. But for the small area I placed it in this was perfect. Longevity I think is dependant on if you turn the reeds around. After a couple of days, I found the scent dwindled, so I turned around the reeds and back came the scent. I do this every 2 to 3 days to maintain the scent and its strength so for me this works well. And I’ve been using this for 2 weeks and it’s still remaining strong if I do this.

Recommended? Definitely! I love home fragrance full stop, but getting it in a way that looks good as well is great to add to any room. And this does! The look of it is so pretty, the scent is stunning and longevity and strength perfect for my needs.

I’ve been able to find the same size diffuser as mine online for £8.99 from a company called Belle & Mac. I’ve personally never shopped with them before, so by all means visit their website but check other places to ensure you get this beautiful product at the right price from the right people.

  • The Body Shop’s Salted Caramel & Vanilla Reed Diffuser

Years and years ago I went through a stage of using air freshener plug ins. I spent a small fortune on them, but that was my preferred way to fragrance my home at the time. Then it was candles. But I worried about leaving them lit so I moved from candles to wax melts. One product I didn’t really use was reed diffusers. When my kids came along I knew they would probably mess about with them thinking they were toys, so I never bothered buying them. But they’re older now and much more trust worthy ( ish ). So I decided to treat myself and buy The Body Shop‘s Salted Caramel & Vanilla Reed Diffuser for £16.00 last year.

The Body Shop’s Salted Caramel & Vanilla Reed Diffuser

Why this one? In the past year I’ve discovered The Body Shop have a wide variety of products. I’ve bought and tried many and found myself loving and enjoying them. The quality of products so far I’ve used have been high and I wanted to venture into their home fragrance range. This scent I went for is classic me. I love my bakery scents, sweet scents and visually I thought a reed diffuser would look nice in a room.

What’s a reed diffuser? A reed diffuser is normally a bottle that contains fragranced oil, with tall and thin reeds placed into it. As they sit in the oil, the reeds suck up the oil and release fragrance into the air.

Packaging & look. The diffuser comes in a slender tall box with the colouring and design reflecting the fragrance. All relevant information needed is on the packaging e.g scent description, instructions, ingredients etc.

The diffuser itself comes in two parts. Six reeds, and 125ml of fragranced oil housed in a short and wide glass bottle which is lidded. The lid has a hole in it to place reeds in. A cap covers the hole once you remove the lid, so the oil is contained when not in use. Looks very typical of this type of fragrance product. Very simple, stylish and elegant. I think visually it makes a nice statement piece in a room and look wise different to what I usually would have out on display. I put this on a glass plate in my bedroom which sets this off even more so.

How to use.Pop the reeds into the glass bottle that houses the fragrance. Spread them out a little in the bottle and once a week turn the sticks to get the most intensity out of the scent.

Scent. This smells so good! I was worried if this would be weak, strong, even possibly too sweet. What I did find was that this scent was quite soft but I would walk into my bedroom thinking how nice it smelt. I wasn’t too sure where the scent was coming from until I remembered! This is a typical salted caramel scent of sorts. It has got the sweetness to it. Also an almost fudge like type tone to it. The vanilla also giving it an added creaminess. But what I got which I wasn’t expecting was a hint of floral. So overall the scent came across more perfume-esq than a stereotypical and predictable bakery fragrance. Sophisticated, warming and very expensive in scent.

Strength & Longevity. The strength of this may vary depending on the size of room or space this is placed in. But in my bedroom, which is what I would call a normal but decent size, the strength I would say is light. Don’t think light is bad as it was there and very natural in scent and noticeable. Sometimes scents shouldn’t be strong and for me this was ideal for the space it was in. Longevity wise very good. After about a week I noticed the scent was fading, and as suggested on instructions I turned the sticks around and this brought the fragrance back to life.

Negatives? Not a negative as such but something that did irritate me. When I tried to take out the cap so I could pop the reeds into the hole it took awhile, and a lot of effort. Imagine when you’re going to buy a new plastic bin or set of chairs. They’re all stacked together and the suction created by them means you’re playing tug of war to get that one item out? That’s this! Unless there’s an unknown magic or I should have turned this around a different direction or something, the only way I got this off was by using tweezers!

Recommended? If you love The Body Shop as a brand and love home fragrancing, this would be a great item for you. The scent is beautiful, it looks great and packaged nicely and perfectly for Autumn/Winter. Both packaging and scent is ideal for this time of year. But it’s not cheap. At £16.00 for me I couldn’t repeat purchase this when I felt like it. It would be a well thought out and timed purchase. Possibly a gift for someone very close to me or maybe a house warming gift for a fragrance or home decor.

I would be over the moon to receive this as a gift. If Salted Caramel & Vanilla isn’t your ideal fragrance, The Body Shop’s diffusers come in 3 other scents. Fancy trying out this perfect Autumnal scent for your home? Get your sweet smelling aroma here.
