  • Shea Moisture’s Bamboo Charcoal Balancing Shampoo & Conditioner

Haircare can be a very personal thing. What works for one person isn’t always the best for another. One brand I’ve used many times in different forms has been Shea Moisture. My most recent purchase from this brand was their African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal Deep Cleansing Shampoo & Conditioner. I bought this from Home Bargains for £3.89 each, both containing 384ml of product.

    Why did I buy this?

The last shampoo and conditioner I was using was Shea Moisture’s Moringa & Avocado Power Greens. I loved it but ran out of the shampoo and couldn’t find an alternative at a good price. Shampoos from this brand cost around £11.00 on the high street, so I grabbed this duo without hesitating! The price, how well the range works for my whole family and needing help with a dry scalp (my son’s), meant these needed to be purchased.

What are these products designed to do?

Bamboo Charcoal Deep Cleansing Shampoo & Conditioner are designed to gently remove any build up on the scalp, clean the scalp and help with any dryness on this area. They also are supposed to help maintain a healthy and hydrated scalp alongside clean, more manageable and well conditioned hair.

    The look, consistency & fragrance

The shampoo’s colour looks like a very very milky hot chocolate. It doesn’t look very appealing but not off putting either. Very liquid in consistency but silky smooth and shiny. The conditioner is similar in colour but more on the grey side rather than brown, with tiny black little specks visible in it. The consistency is totally different to the shampoo. The conditioner is much more thicker and has more hold to it. Fragrance wise, there’s a distinctive hint of tea tree to this range with a little sweetness to it.

    On the hair

The shampoo lathered up surprisingly well on my hair even on the first wash, which isn’t the norm for me. I’m generous with my use of shampoo, but did find I didn’t need as much as usual for this to lather up and wash my hair effectively. It made my hair and scalp feel very clean but not squeaky clean, which is what I wanted.

The conditioner made my hair feel ok. My hair already was in good condition after using the shampoo, so I thought this only added to that feeling just a little bit. It washed out easily. I did feel my hair could’ve felt more softer after the conditioner though and less tangled.

My scalp was beautifully clean. I’m that person who can still have a little product or flaky scalp left after a wash usually, but there was nothing after using this duo. Both scalp and hair looked and felt clean with a hint of fragrance to it. I styled my hair straight after and felt this set made my hair more controlled and better behaved.

    Recommended?

I love the shampoo in this set! The conditioner was ok but but getting my hair and scalp clean is important because of how I wear my hair. This did the job brilliantly! It smells great and totally unisex with that fresh and clean fragrance to it. Shampoo lathered up and cleaned scalp and hair without stripping it. And the conditioner did what a conditioner should do which is give the hair a mini treatment. Totally recommended and if you use this hair care range already, this is a great buy if you can get this in Home Bargains!

  • Trying Shea Moisture’s Power Greens Hair Care Range For The First Time

Hair is such a massive part of someone’s appearance. No wonder the haircare market is so huge and full of various shampoos, conditioners, treatments and styling products. We use them to keep our hair clean, controlled and presented in a way that suits our lifestyles and tastes. Do I personally love hair care products? I probably see them as a necessity, but I’m always open minded to using new products. What was recently new to me was Shea Moisture’s Moringa & Avocado Power Greens hair care range. I ordered 3 full size hair products direct from Shea Moisture and only paid £6.50 to cover the p&p charge.

    Why did I order this?

I’ve used Shea Moisture products before and I’ve liked them. This brand is suitable for lots of diferent hair care types but probably pushed more towards people with afro Caribbean hair, which I have. I ordered this because Power Greens sounded nourishing for the hair which I need. The set contained a basic but full routine for a wash day and the price I paid was crazy! One full size product from Shea Moisture at full price can cost up to £13.00. So just paying for delivery costs for this collection was amazing value!

    What did I get?

I received the Moringa & Avocado Power Greens Shampoo, Conditioner and Reconstructor.

What does this range do & who is it suitable for?

This range is designed to be lightweight on curly and coily hair. Perfect for weak, dull and coloured hair because it’s nourishing, gentle (no added sulphates or silcones) and effective at cleansing, conditioning and strengthening.

    Packaging

The shampoo and conditioner (has a pump to dispense) both come in slightly darkened plastic bottles and the reconstructor comes in a lidded tub. All three have a distinctive bright green label which fits in with the ingredients of these products perfectly.

    Fragrance

All three products have the same fragrance. They smell fresh, sweet almost floral like but heading towards more plant based rather than floral flowers. Smells absolutely gorgeous!

    Power Greens Shampoo

I expected the texture of this to be a little thicker but this was quite runny. It took two applications for this shampoo to really foam up and work into my hair, but that’s with any shampoo I use. Once I got to this point it foamed up like crazy. Easy to wash out and it left my hair feeling very soft and smooth.

    Power Greens Conditioner

After using the shampoo, I followed it up with the conditioner. Thicker, less shower gel like than the shampoo and I used a lot less of it. I had this on my hair for probably 10 minutes (instructions said 3mins) then rinsed off. No residue in my hair and again my hair had that soft and smooth feel and seemed a little less detangled.

    Power Greens Reconstructor

I thought the texture of this would be super thick, but I found this to be very loose . This wasn’t an issue it just surprised me. A small amount went a long way and I had this on for around 20 minutes (10-15 is suggested) with my hair wrapped in cling film (yes, I said cling film!). I expected my hair to feel incredibly soft after rinsing this off like the other two products but it didn’t feel like that. It was a touch tangled, not massively. The immediate feel after using the shampoo and conditioner I think was so good my expectations were so high for this and it didn’t quite match their performance.

    Recommended?

My hair was in good condition after using this set. The shampoo really gave my very dirty hair and flaking scalp an effective but non stripping clean and didn’t dry it out at all. The conditioner just added to making my hair feel more treated. The reconstructor was ok but I don’t feel it added anything extra to my hair care routine. I would happily use it again but for me the winners were the shampoo and conditioner. So would I recommend this range? Yes I would! Shea Moisture isn’t the cheapest range but there’s lots of variety in regards to products and is regularly on some form of offer. Available in lots of places such as Boots, Superdrug and supermarkets so easy to get hold of. But keep an eye on Shea Moisture themselves. This is the second time they’ve had special promotions like this and it may not be the last!
