  • My New Simple Brightening Gel Cream

My skincare products have been the same for awhile now. Although issues with my skin haven’t got worse and in fact seem to have improved, it’s time for a switch up! Buying new skincare products to give your routine a boost can be costly depending on what you’re replacing, how many products your changing and where you buy them from. But I haven’t had that problem. My latest new skincare product slotted in to my routine is Simple’s Brightening Gel Cream bought from Home Bargains. So…what is it like?

    Simple’s Brightening Gel Cream
    Why did I buy this?

I bought this because I would like my skin to look a little more brighter and less dull. The usual product I use as a face cream deals with moisturising but that’s pretty much it! No other added benefits. I hoped this would deliver something a little more.

What is this supposed to do?

Simple’s Brightening Gel Cream is formulated to brighten tired looking skin. It’s supposed to leave the skin moisturised, look and feel softer and smoother, giving the skin a natural but healthier look. All of this done using a light formulation.

    Cost & size

£2.99 for 50ml. Simple facial moisturisers tend to cost around the £9.99 price point unless on a price promotion.

    Packaging

50ml of cream comes in a pot that’s boxed. Very simple in appearance but appealable to any age or sex. Coloured in white and orange, which reminds me of Revolution Skincare packaging. The difference in colouring of packaging with the Simple ranges makes it easy to identify what sub-range they are from, which is handy.

    Ingredients

Includes – glycerin, niacinamide and ginger root.

    Consistency & fragrance

Simple’s Brightening Gel Cream is white in colour, silky smooth in look and has hold in the pot. To look at it, it looks quite rich. There’s no wobbly or movement to it. But in between the finger tips it has an almost gel like feel to it, very light weight, but has slip. Not watery in consistency. Thicker and heavier than a gel, more light weight than some creams.

Fragrance wise, there isn’t one. Most Simple products don’t include artificial fragrances. So this is ideal for those who don’t want their facial products to have a scent.

    On the face

I use this after cleansing and in the morning before sun cream (yes, I use sun protection ALL YEAR ROUND!). On the fingertips, this feels very light and gel like. When I first used this I thought this wouldn’t be moisturising. But placed onto the skin it immediately felt very moisturising, slightly cooling and protective. The slip in this cream was a richness that was there during application and stayed on the skin afterwards. My face looked moisturised, not dry, or greasy, just hydrated and it felt it too. This feeling didn’t disappear whether that was during the day or overnight. It’s very easy to use too much of this because the texture is misleading. But this is a rich cream without being rich and I love it!

Has this given me a glow?

I’ve only been using this for a few days so can’t see any specific changes in my skin. But what I would say is I enjoy using this, my skin feels supple and feels and looks moisturised, which is the least I expect from a facial moisturiser.

    Recommended?

I really like Simple’s Brightening Gel Cream! It’s rich without being heavy and greasy. It’s moisturising and protective yet sinks in well. Quick and easy to use and I enjoy using this! There’s nothing worse than using products on the face and body and not enjoying the experience. This I really like. So much so after the first time I used it I bought another pot a few days later!

If you want a moisturiser that moisturisers, and you need something that really delivers but isn’t heavy, this could be the one. It’s not a fancy product but it’s a good one. I’m interested to see if this does provide a ‘glow’ that I need, so watch this space!

  • Products I Buy On Repeat That Are Affordable

We all have staple products we buy to use on the face and body. It’s part of a daily hygiene routine because we need to clean and moisturise. And there are certain items we use regularly, which means we purchase them regularly too. One thing I find is if a product works and it’s not expensive, it means repurchasing if and when needed is much easier and pain free compared to it being at a higher price point. Here are some of my go to products I buy on repeat that are affordable.

Products I buy on repeat and use daily
    Aldi’s Lacura Moisturising Face Wash

In my household we used to use Simple’s Moisturising Face Wash. It’s budget friendly but I found the price creeping up, so opted for Aldi’s Lacura Moisturising Face Wash. We (myself and kids) have used this for a few years now when it was originally 99p (now £1.19). It’s fragrance, soap and colour free, and overall a gentle formula ideal for all of us, along with being an effective cleanser.

    Aldi’s Lacura Moisturising Face Wash
    Aldi’s Lacura Moisturising Hand Cream

I’m a massive fan of skin and body products that contain oatmeal. The most famous one (Aveeno) comes at a higher price point than what I would like to pay regularly. I chose Aldi’s Lacura Moisturising Hand Cream because it contained oatmeal and glycerin, which is soothing and moisturising. It didn’t have a massive long list of ingredients and I didn’t spot any fragrance or ‘parfum’ in this. Which made this a good hand cream for myself and my daughter to use. Currently 69p.

    Aldi’s Lacura Moisturising Hand Cream
    Simple Soap

A bar of soap isn’t the most exciting product to use but it’s practical. No perfumes, colours, nothing too harsh for sensitive skin. This is why I bought these for my daughter who as a small child had issues with her skin. Easy to use, lasts for ages and comes in a pack of 2 in Home Bargains for 89p.

    Simple soap bars
    Simple Sensitive Bath Soak/Shower Gel

Originally myself and daughter used Moisturising Bath Soak. But for some reason it’s not the easiest product to find anymore. I found an even better Simple bath soak (sensitive) in Bodycare which I grab if I’m near the store. Cost? £2.75 for 1itre. I also found the shower gel version in Home Bargains which worked out better value ml for ml at 89p for 450ml. These contain no dyes, perfume, soap, alcohol, which are things that can irritate some skin and dry it out. Especially when buying the shower gel version I buy 3 or 4 at a time. Why so many? Not only do we use this in the shower and bath, but I decant this and use it as hand wash because of it’s gentle formula.

    Simple’s Sensitive Bath Soak
    A bit boring?

These products have a running theme. All are designed for more of a sensitive skin type, which means its great for myself and my teens. These aren’t particularly interesting, elaborate, sexy packaged or complex formulations, but they work! Not only do they work for us but all are budget friendly, which means I can repeat purchase when needed without breaking the bank.

  • Simple’s Illuminating Under Eye Hydrogel Mask

Skincare isn’t always a magic wand that can banish all skin problems. Some products take time to improve the skin and others are designed to be quick fix for a problem or concern. Once you know which products are going to give you an instant help or be a long term problem solver, choosing the right products for the right job is a little easier. One skincare quick fix that’s been in my skincare stash for awhile is Simple’s Illuminating Under Eye Hydrogel Mask. I can’t remember where I bought this from but it was no more than £1.00.

Simple’s Illuminating Under Eye Hydrogel Mask
    Why did I buy this?

I bought this because I like Simple as a brand and enjoy using their products. I’m also a sucker for any eye product. This is an area of my face that can always do with a little pick me up which I thought this product potentially could do.

What are these supposed to do?

These under eye masks are designed to be used on an area that looks tired, dull and lack lustre. In fact, it states that in 5 minutes dark circles should look less severe and overall the under eye should look smoother, more healthier and vibrant.

    How to use

Place under the eye and leave on for 5 minutes. Use once or twice a week.

    How do these look?

Simple’s Under Eye Hydrogel Mask is the same sort of shape as most eye masks are. It follows the shape of the under eye area and gets wider towards the cheek bones. These under eye masks are clear, jelly like and smooth but holds their shape while not being solid.

    In use

First thing I noticed with these eye masks is they were the perfect thickness. Not too thick that they were rigid and not too floppy where I struggled to handle them. Placing them under my eyes was refreshing (in more ways than one). The other under eye masks I’ve used in the past needed to be positioned a little. These went straight under the eye, almost moulding under it and stayed in place. I also noticed these totally flattened the skin under my eyes. My usual lines had been pushed out and looked less visible underneath them. Very comfortable to wear and very cooling on the skin too.

    After use

Taking these off I did wonder if there was any change. I didn’t expect any, but I’m sure my under eyes did looked a touch fresher and less tired than they appeared before wearing them. Not a massive difference but enough for me to be happy with what I saw. How effective these are on dark circles I don’t know as it’s not an issue I suffer from.

    Recommended?

How comfortable these under eye masks sat on the face, the quality of them and the cooling sensation are reasons I would recommend these. They are a simple way to pamper the face and popped in the fridge will really help wake up the eye area if needed. But the fact I noticed a slightly better look under the eyes, even if temporary, is making me need to buy a few more for future use! And it always helps these are easily available on the high street from stores such as Boots, various supermarkets and discount stores. Affordable, easy and enjoyable to use and they actually do something!

  • A Summer Skincare Essential? The Cooling Simple’s Hydrating Eye Gel

There’s always something about ourselves we would like to change or improve. I could list quite a few things but if it concerns my skin and my face, it would be my under eye area. If I’m tired, feeling unwell, lack of sleep or suffering from hay fever, it shows! So eye products are always on my hit list and things I’m interested in. I’m currently using two eye products in my everyday skincare routine. One is Simple’ s Hydrating Eye Gel which cost 99p for 25ml from Home Bargains.

    Simple’s Hydrating Eye Gel
    Why did I buy this?

I’m always on the look out for eye products and this seemed very appealing. The brand Simple has always been very gentle on my skin. The gel texture I thought could be perfect to use at certain times and the price was a bargain!

What is this supposed to do?

Simple’s Hydrating Eye Gel is designed to hydrate the under eye area, help to reduce puffiness and give the under eye a fresher look overall. It contains 5% of plant actives so can also provide antioxidant benefits.

    Who is this for?

Someone who is suffering from tired and puffy eyes.

    Packaging

Excuse the pun, but the packaging is simple but it works! This eye gel comes tubed with a very fine opening so you can easily control the amount of product you squeeze out and use. White plastic tube with green and blue detailing. Boxed, which is blue with white and green detailing. All of this gives a natural, wholesome, ‘simple’ vibe.

    Consistency/texture

Clear, transparent. Gel in look as it has hold but not totally solid in structure.

    How to use

Apply in the morning to combat puffy or tired under eyes. Use as a primer before applying make-up and use during the day as a treatment to relieve tiredness.

    On the eyes

This eye gel is something I don’t use everyday. I use it when I need a lighter textured product and comforting but not heavy. Mainly I use this first thing in the morning, or during the day when my under eyes feel like they need a wake up. This is a product that lives in the fridge to add to it’s benefits.

I use a small dot of this eye gel under each eye. This is so cooling and soothing when applied, it’s so enjoyable to use. It’s easy to dab around the eyes and it sinks in quickly and easily, but feels as if it’s leaving some form of protection on this area. Despite it being a gel, I find this incredibly moisturising but not in a traditional, cream like why.

My under eyes never look shiny when this soaks in. It gives instant relief and the feeling of hydration lasts all day. This is a blessing when my eyes need a pick me up. Does this make my eyes look better in regards to puffiness and tiredness? Puffy eyes aren’t a massive issue with me. Tiredness is a part of life and there’s only so much a product can do. But this eye product is best for me when it comes to feeling relief and keeping my under eyes protected and not dried out.

    Recommended?

If your concern is lines and wrinkles this is a no. Extremely dry I would say not on it’s own although could work alongside another eye product. But If you want and need something to be lightweight, moisturising, cooling, sinks in quickly then yes! I adore this eye gel. Not only does it actually do something (e.g cooling, hydration) it’s an absolute pleasure to use. This would be a good little product for any aged person, sex and could be used any time of the year, but especially Spring and Summer.

Available from many retailers such as Superdrug with prices varied. Best price I’ve found is from Amazon* and at the time of writing this post, it costs £3.32 for THREE of these eye gels which is a great deal! So during this heatwave we’re experiencing in the UK, your face will thank you for this purchase!
