Month: September 2022

  • September’s Round Up. What Products Did I Use?

Another month bites the dust! This year really wants to be done, doesn’t it? It’s absolutely flying by. So here I am showcasing another monthly round up of products I’ve used, but this time for the month of September.

    September’s Round Up
Glow’s Ruffles At The Palace August Wax Melt Subscription Box

September definitely started with a bang with this beautifully crafted and scented wax subscription box from UK wax vendor Glow. 5 differently fragranced, shaped and coloured pieces of wax finished off with a super sweet tealight holder. So much wax that I’m still struggling to finish off this epic selection of wax goodies!

    Asda’s Rhubarb Blush Reed Diffuser

I’m having a love affair with reed diffusers at the moment. I was pleasantly surprised with the look, quality and price of Asda’s Rhubarb Blush Reed Diffuser. Even if you can’t get hold of this or similar from Asda at this price, it’s worthwhile taking notice of their home fragrance products if this is a reflection of their quality. It just shows supermarkets are more than food selling shops!

So…? Unique’s Sweet Amber Body Mist

If you’re wanting an affordable, Autumn inspired and warming, sweet fragrance, Unique’s Sweet Amber Body Mist might need to land on your shopping list. Body mists are an affordable and easy way to mix up your fragrance wardrobe without costing a fortune.

So…? Unique’s Sweet Amber Body Mist
Superdrug’s Vitamin E All Over Body Cream with Lavender

This body cream is a little special! Moisturising without being greasy, great fragrance and a pleasure to use. And of course, not expensive and regularly on a price promotion at Superdrug so win win!

The Body Shop’s Seaweed Balance Sheet Mask

I love The Body Shop for its bath and body products but I’m finding a lot of their skincare products don’t fall into my repurchase pile. Their Seaweed Balance Sheet Mask didn’t do much for my skin. Probably not the sheet mask for me and not one I would buy as I’ve used and enjoyed others much more.

Better Homes & Gardens Lemongrass & Ginger Botanical Infused Wax Melts
Wax melts are definitely my thing! Anyone who knows me knows how much I love them. And these little botanical gems not only smelt great, looked fabulous but were also super cheap! Perfect Christmas stocking fillers.

So…? Sorry Not Sorry Ready, Steady Scrub Body Buffer

Vanilla based, very grainy and super effective body scrub. So…? Sorry Not Sorry Ready, Steady Scrub Body Buffer is a good body scrub for those who want a fun scrub to use (and smell), and it works too!

So…? Sorry Not Sorry Ready, Steady Scrub Body Buffer

That’s a wrap for September! So, while I wrap myself up in a blanket (I refuse to put the heat on, if you’re in the UK you know what I mean!), I’m thinking about what other product reviews will come up next month! So keep reading…

  • I’ve Started Christmas Shopping, What Did I Buy?

Love it or hate it, Christmas is coming! It happens at the same time every year. Some people like to be organised well in advance when it comes to purchasing gifts. Others are walking around shops wondering why they can’t get gonk covered wrapping paper on Christmas Eve. Which category do I fall into? I like to be prepared! Especially with how things are currently when it comes to the economy. So, have I bought anything yet? Maybe just a few things…

Aldi’s Lacura CBD Calming Tea Tree Sheet Mask

I know lots of people that love a sheet mask. I saw these in my latest visit to Aldi and couldn’t help noticing they were £1.99 down to 99p. Aldi’s skincare range is actually really good and perfect for those who are on a budget but want to buy quality lotions and potions. I’ve never used this mask before, in fact, never seen it before! But it will make a great addition to my collection of smaller gift items.

Better Homes & Gardens Wax Melts

I bought some of these a few weeks ago in Lemongrass & Ginger and absolutely loved them! Then I noticed they were available in another fragrance and I had to grab a few for my wax melt loving friends. Great scents, beautifully crafted and only 69p from Home Bargains.

Better Homes & Gardens Lavender & Chamomile Botanical Infused Wax Melts
Simple’s 5 Minute Reset Hydrogel Mask

One of the things I’m going to do is make up a little box of goodies for my daughter for Christmas. She’s into her fragrances and has started to use sheet masks. I’ve personally tried this one before and loved it, and for £1.69 in my local Tesco I thought this was perfect! She uses lots of products from the Simple range already, so I know they are kind to her skin, and I think she will enjoy using this.

    M&S Bath Fizzers

I found this by chance while giving up the will to live in August looking for school shoes for my children. Did I leave with school shoes? No. Did I leave with a handful of various shaped and scented bath fizzers? Yes! Originally each one was £3.50 and they had been reduced to 49p! BARGAIN!

    Lynx 12 Day Countdown Calendar

If anyone would have told me I would be buying my teenage son Lynx I would say they were having a laugh! The brand reminds me of high school. The boys would be drenched in the stuff, so I have a traumatic episode anytime I see the range. But my son likes the sprays. Is this a genetic thing that any young male MUST like Lynx? Anyway, I bought the 12 Day Countdown Calendar from Home Bargains because when I worked out the cost of each piece it’s actually cheaper to buy the set than individually (which is rare!). It includes 2 body sprays, 3 body washes, 1 antiperspirant, 1 pair of socks, nail clippers, travel bottle, charging cable, face cloth and comb. This was £6.99.

    Lynx 12 Day Countdown Calendar

So, this is me officially starting to buy for Christmas. Honestly? I don’t want to spend a fortune. When it comes to fragrance, bath, body or skincare I want to get smaller items and give as a selection to people which I think is nice and inexpensive. But I want these at the best prices which so far I’m doing quite well with!

What will be next on my to buy Christmas list? Wait..and..see..

  • So…? Sorry Not Sorry Ready, Steady Scrub Body Buffer

There’s something special about a body scrub. I enjoy using them but the best bit about them is how the skin on my body can feel so afterwards. From beginning to end it’s such a satisfying body product so it has to be one of my favourite products to use. So, I thought it was time for a body scrub change. I’ve decided to use So..? Sorry Not Sorry Ready Steady Scrub Body Buffer I bought a while ago direct from So…? Fragrance. Can’t remember how much I paid, but me being me, bought it during a sale so it wasn’t full price!

So…? Sorry Not Sorry Ready, Steady Scrub Body Buffer
    Why did I buy this?

I knew So…? was a fragrance range but didn’t realise it also had body products under its umbrella too! The packaging caught my attention, then the fact it was a body scrub made me want it and finally the deal breaker was the price.

What is this supposed to do?

Like any traditional body scrub, it’s designed to leave your skin feeling soft and smooth thanks to its exfoliating action and ingredients including sweet almond oil, argan oil and sunflower seed oil.

    Packaging

450g of scrub comes in a plastic tub. How this looks is fun, quite youthful and eye-catching thanks to splashes of pink and purple and overall, how the label is designed. It seems to be aimed at a younger market but like anything, different people are attracted to different things regardless of age.

    Fragrance

This was MADE FOR ME! This is a sweet lover’s dream without a doubt! There’s comforting and creamy vanilla in this. I keep thinking there’s a hint of floral as well but not too sure because this isn’t straight up vanilla. It’s not sickly but it is sweet. I love it, but it won’t suit everyone. This fragrance along with this packaging again confirms this is aimed at a younger market.

    Texture

I’ve used a lot of body scrubs over the last few years, and this has got to be the most solid and grainiest I’ve used in a while. In the tub it looks solid. Imagine when you’ve been using Himalayan Sea Salt (the pink one) to cook with, and you’ve got to the last bit in the packaging, and it’s clumped up and solid. This is how this looks. You can see the tiny grains in it and it glistens like it’s slightly oily but does look brick hard.

    TEXTURE!
    In the shower/bath

I showered first before applying this scrub onto my body, making sure my skin was clean and damp. What I found was when I scooped this scrub out, it was less solid but very grainy. So, I struggled with applying the scrub at first as it went everywhere. But apply it I did, and I found there were lots of grains in this which gave an exfoliating action and feel. I did have to be careful not to be too quick or apply too much pressure because this scrub is more on the dry side, which could lead to damaging my skin. It wasn’t totally dry. There was definitely some oil in this because it had a slight slip to it, but not much.

    Skin Afterwards

After I used the scrub I had a long soak in the bath. The fragrance was there which I liked and it wasn’t too strong. I felt quite relaxed and could already feel my skin benefited from using this. When I dried myself off, my skin felt smoother, it was fragranced and I could tell I had used a scrub.

    Recommended?

This is a good sized, nice smelling and effective body scrub. Pre/teens would love this because it has a younger energy to it (packaging, scent etc) and it’s not too expensive. Those who love their sweet fragrances in their body products would love this too. So yes, I would recommend it. Would I purchase this for myself again? Probably not. Why? After using this and many others in the past, I now know a drier body scrub isn’t my favourite consistency. Something with more oil to it or even cream based is what I prefer, and I think is more conditioning for my skin. This is down to my personal preference rather than the quality of the product.

Available from places such as Superdrug for £8.00, currently selling for £5.99 direct from So…?Fragrance.

  • Under £1.00? B Essentials Lemongrass & Ginger Botanical Infused Wax Melts

With the cost of living becoming more challenging, many of us are being more careful with what we spend our money on. It’s not nice when you feel you can’t or shouldn’t indulge in a bit of luxury or enjoy something that you normally like because of cost. But what if that item was super cheap? Could you get that little sense of pleasure without the price tag? This is where I can mention a recent wax melt purchase I made, which was incredibly affordable. I bought Better Homes & Gardens Lemongrass & Ginger Botanical Infused Wax Melts from Home Bargains for ….69p for 78g!

Better Homes & Gardens Lemongrass & Ginger Botanical Infused Wax Melts
    Why did I buy this?

I first saw the packaging and thought how attractive it looked, and then when I read it housed wax melts it was game over! Great and unusual packaging, good amount of wax melts weight wise and the fragrances I thought were so appealing, so I bought them!

    Packaging

I cannot tell you how cute I find the packaging of these because it’s not the usual way wax melts are presented. 10 wax melts live in a cardboard tub. The lid of this needs to be pulled off and there the wax melts are. It’s an eye catching sunshine yellow colour and looks very simple but quite traditional in a cute and not dated way.

    The Wax Melts

These are just adorable! These wax melts come in circular discs (slightly bigger than a £2.00 coin) with the letter B embossed on them. Cream in colour with what looks like dried herbs peeping through the wax. Yellow and orange in colour, so I’m guessing these are either lemongrass or ginger. Whatever these pieces are it makes these wax melts look very botanical, exceptionally pretty and very inviting.

    Fragrance

These wax melts are the perfect combination of lemongrass and ginger. It’s clean and fresh, with the sweet and uplifting scent of the lemongrass. You get that small hit of citrus but it’s not the same zest you get from lemon and not as harsh. There’s warmth and a touch of spice from the ginger. I couldn’t love this scent any more than what I do.

    In Melt

I popped two of these wax melts in my wax warmer which sits in my living room. Without it being turned on I could smell these. I thought these would melt super quick because of their size and thickness but these actually took quite a while. I suspect this was because of the fact they contained pieces of dried herbs. Either way they melted slowly and beautifully, filling the air with their gorgeous fragrance.

    Strength & Longevity

These wax melts are medium in strength. I suspect if they were in a smaller room possibly strong. What I loved about these was catching this fragrance while being in in a different room and not in the room these were melting in. Their cleanliness, the warming element. Totally inviting yet not too powerful. It just came across incredibly natural. Longevity is very good. I’ve melted the same two wax melts for hours and I still get the same fragrance and strength.

    Recommended?

I had a feeling these were special when I picked them up in store and had a quick sniff of them. But you can never be too sure what wax melts are like until you melt them. The quality of these is undeniable. They are packaged in an unassuming but attractive way. The look of these wax melts is beautiful, unusual and definitely screams ‘botanical’. But the most important thing is the fragrance is divine! Ideal for those who love their clean, fresh and citrusy scents. I just can’t fault these, and for the price these are an absolute steal! Recommended? YES! Not only for personal use but THE perfect gift to give a wax melt lover without breaking the bank, so buy a few. Hint hint…CHRISTMAS!
