  • Scrubee Body Butter By LUSH

I was given a generous stash of LUSH products from a friend recently. Not only was I incredibly thrilled and thankful for receiving such a thoughtful gift, I also knew I would enjoy using them. Why? The friend in question has near identical tastes to me bath and body product wise. So if she chose them I trusted them! One of the products I was fascinated by was Scrubee Body Butter.

    Scrubee Body Butter by LUSH
    What is this?

This is a solid body exfoliator and moisturiser. Containing grounded up coconut shells and almonds, this should buff off the dead skin cells leaving the skin on the body soft. With the addition of shea butter, cocoa butter and coconut oil, this is designed to moisturise, protect and leave the skin feeling smooth.

    How does this look?

Scrubee Body Butter is solid, slightly rounded and looks like a bee in it’s shape and appearance (sort of, minus wings). Off white in colour with peppered black stripes going across the body with two small eyes at the front. Very simple but super cute.

    Fragrance

Honey with a floral undertone to it. Absolutely stunning in scent, perfect for those who love their more sweeter fragrances but don’t want sugary sweet. I adore how this smells and could happily have everything and anything in this scent.

    How to use

Scrubee Body Butter can be used in either the bath or shower. Rub gently over damp skin and rinse off.

    In use

I applied this onto damp skin. What I did was use the rounded top of this product. This is where the exfoliating pieces are as they aren’t on the bottom of it. I expected the exfoliation to be underwhelming but it actually was quite good! I could feel it on my skin, it wasn’t too harsh but felt as if it was doing something.

Scrubee Body Butter, even on damp skin, acted like a solid body butter. It didn’t foam, it didn’t lather, it didn’t milk up. It just looked like it was warmed by my skin and left a physical layer of it on my body. So don’t confuse this for a form of body wash or soap because it isn’t.

Rinsing off wasn’t a rinse off as such. This was still on my skin even after attempting a rinse but my skin did feel very soft, smooth, highly moisturised and beautifully fragrant. Be mindful of your bath or shower tray when using this. My bath was slippery and needed a good rinse to get rid of it along with the exfoliation bits as some of these came away from the product.

    Recommended?

This is an odd product! When I first looked at it, it felt and looked like a fun but solid body butter. LUSH do sell these in various shapes and forms and this looked similar. But the fact you apply it onto damp skin threw me. Providing exfoliation confused me on top of this too! Once I understood what this was I found it a nice product. The look of this was cute, the fragrance to die for, good exfoliation and left my skin feeling great and moisturised. But if I’m honest I found using this a bit of a faff!

I would recommend this for someone with dry skin or wants to add lots of moisture to the skin on their body. And if you are looking for something different and unusual this could be THAT product. Not ideal for people who like their products simple, traditional and quick to use.

    Available from LUSH for £10.00.

  • Wickford & Co’s Gingerbread Scented Wax Melts

As a wax melt lover, I tend to purchase wax melts from wax vendors. These are small businesses who make and sell their own wax melts in various shapes, sizes and scents. But sometimes a girl just wants one piece of wax, not a selection, to grab and melt at home in the space of an hour. And that’s why I purchased a few Autumnal inspired wax melts from the high street recently. One of those wax melts was Wickford & Co’s Gingerbread from Home Bargains. This cost 79p for 88g.

Wickford & Co’s Gingerbread Scented Wax Melts
    Why did I buy this?

Gingerbread as a fragrance is popular at this time of the year and flies off the shelf in Home Bargains in wax melt and candle form. But for some reason I’ve never actually tried it! I love this fragrance, I love wax melts and I love the 79p price tag so why have I not? Well, I have now…

    Appearance & Packaging

Wickford & Co’s wax melt is segmented into 8 cubes which need to be broken off to use and pop into a wax warmer. It looks like a very chunky chocolate bar even more so with it being a dark caramel colour. Its all one block colour with no glitter, no design, nothing, just plain.

The wax is housed in a plastic casing which keeps it protected and easy to store away. The label itself looks very festive and inviting.

    Fragrance

It smells of gingerbread definitely. You get the hit of ginger which is more bakery based rather than zingy fresh ginger, thanks to it’s sweetness and hints of spices and citrus. It’s a beautiful scent which isn’t too sweet and sickly and very comforting.

    In melt

I only used one cube of this in my wax warmer and it melted away evenly and released fragrance straight away. I’m so used to my wax melts having a shimmer to them, or creating a beautiful wax pool, which this didn’t.

    Strength & Longevity

The strength of this, one cube alone, I would say is on the verge of being strong. Strong not in an overpowering way but in an obvious, it’s there and cuts through other smells kind of way. I’ve had a leak through some new plaster work recently. It’s left a lingering damp, wet plaster smell which is very annoying! With this melting in the hallway I can barely smell it! Longevity is just as good as the strength. A few hours of melting and the strength and scent is exactly the same as when first put on.

    Recommended?

I’m not ashamed to say I’m a bit of a wax melt snob and look down at wax melts that are sold cheaply on the high street. But it’s safe to say I’m much more open minded now because this is really good! Nicely packaged, good amount of wax to melt, great fragrance which is a punchy one and is cheap! So if you love your gingerbread fragrance this should definitely be purchased!

  • Why I Love Glow’s Subscription Boxes

I love a subscription box! A subscription box is the perfect way to sample different products from vendors or brands as a one off or repeat purchase. The best part of it is you can get a subscription box containing anything these days. I’ve loved the wax melt and bath and body subscription boxes from small business Glow over the last few years. But which ones have been my favourites?

    Glow’s Subscription Boxes
Glow’s A Trick Amongst The Treats October 2021 Wax Melt Subscription Box

I was kindly gifted this subscription box and this was a STUNNER! A beautifully crafted set of Halloween themed wax melts which not only looked amazing but smelt it too. Generous in size, themed perfectly fragrance wise and I loved the fact these went down a pretty Halloween route rather than the typical gruesome one they could easily have created.

A Trick Amongst The Treats Wax Melt Subscription Box
Ruffles At The Palace August 2022 Wax Melt Subscription Box

Inspired by Disney and Princesses, Ruffles At The Palace August 2022 Wax Melt Subscription Box contained wax melts which screamed Disney characters and themes to me. From Once Upon A Time wax melt which was a stunning shade of yellow like the character’s Belle’s dress to Three Wishes which had hints of Snow White’s story in the appearance of it. A collection of sweetly fragranced wax melts which where ornate and easy on the eye.

Glow’s Bath & Body March 2023 Subscription Box

This particular subscription box was the one I was probably the most hungry to get my hands on! Why? It was the first proper glimpse of Glow’s new bath and body range which got all their customers very excited! From a hand wash, body butter, bath bomb…this box was full of pampering delights that made me very happy!

    Bath & Body Subscription Box
Glow’s Bath, Skin & Hair Care July 2023 Subscription Box

Another taste of non-wax melt products made and sold by Glow, but this time including a hair product. What I really liked about this selection was it contained so many different products it covered nearly the whole body. Hair mask, bath soak, foot spray, soap, perfume balm and body moisturiser. If this wasn’t a well thought out subscription box nothing else is!

Glow’s Crime Scene Investigators April 2023 Wax Subscription Box

Going back to what Glow was originally known for, their April 2023 subscription box was all about wax melts. This box was given to me by Glow and was imaginatively themed around a murder investigation. The theming was clever, each wax melt looked and smelt like they were a part of the story. As per usual, each wax melt was massive in size, attention to detail spot on and smelt amazing!

    Crime Scene Investigators Subscription Box

So if there was ever a subscription box you should sign up for Glow should be on your list! Brilliant themes, each product presented well and great sizes. And the price of each box incredibly affordable. THIS IS WHY I love Glow’s subscription boxes!

Currently available only through their Facebook group page but hopefully will be open to everyone from their website in the future.

So here’s a burning question, have I purchased any new monthly subscription boxes from Glow? Maybe……..

  • Autumn Scented Wax Melts From The High Street

Autumn is my favourite season in the year. The best tv shows land ready for me to be glued to my remote control. The weather is the perfect combination, normally, of sun, mildness with a a hint of crispness to it. And it’s totally acceptable to hermit and start living under a cosy blanket which is the second skin of a sofa. BLISS! Another thing I love about this season is the various home fragrances available to use that match with this time of year. So I decided to grab three wax melts from three high street retailers that screamed Autumn. And these are what I bought:

    Autumn inspired wax melts
Pacific Wax Co’s Pumpkin Spice – Asda

This wax melt cost £1.00 for 35.4g (the smallest out of the three purchased). Packaged in a protective plastic clam casing (which they all are housed in) with the wax segmented into 6 pieces. I love the label on this. It depicts the fragrance well and shouts Autumn to me.

The fragrance is spicy, warming and does have a pumpkin element to it. Not too strong or sweet and very balanced. Pumpkin scents aren’t my usual go to but this one is really nice with the spices coming through gently.

Pacific Wax Co’s Pumpkin Spice Wax Melts
    Wickford & Co’s Gingerbread – Home Bargains

This wax melt cost 79p for 88g (the cheapest out of the three purchased) which contains 8 cubes. The labelling, like Pacific Wax Co’s Pumpkin Spice, is cosy, easy on the eye and tells you what this is supposed to smell like from picture alone. When I think of THE Autumn/Winter scent it has to be Gingerbread!

This fragrance is a mix of ginger and some citrus notes to it. Warming but not spicy. This is mainly ginger for me but a bakery ginger not the spicy ginger. Great scent, just how I want a gingerbread piece of wax to smell like!

Wickford & Co’s Gingerbread Wax Melts
    Restore Sandalwood, Cedar & Cardamom – B & M

This wax melt cost £1.50 for 103.5g of wax which is the biggest in size, weight and cost of all three I bought. This is made up of 9 segments. I like the shape of this wax as it’s not square or rectangular, which gives it an interesting look. The labelling is beyond basic. No pictures, just the fragrance name. Strangely enough I’m fine with it because although this smells like an Autumn fragrance, it may be sold all year round so it can’t stand out seasonally.

Fragrance wise this comes across as quite a clean scent as it has powdery notes to it. A little woodiness comes through with the smallest hit of spice but barely there. I really like this one. Very unusual, I like the cleanness of this but could be spicier.

Restore Sandalwood, Cedar & Cardamom Wax Melts
    Overall

Three differently sized, priced and fragranced wax melts which all tick the Autumn box! It’s nice to have three wax melts that smell differently but all give off a cosy feel in different ways. I can only assume all three are widely available from these stores and which ever one you chose won’t break the bank, and should provide a good number of hours of fragrance.
