  • The Cooling Glow’s Defence Moisturiser

Body products are one of the easiest things that can be slipped in or out of a body care routine. Unlike some skincare products, you can use something on the body and know straight away whether your skin likes it or not. You can chop and change products without it causing issues to your body. At this moment of time I’m using various different body moisturisers, depending on my mood, including Glow’s Defense Moisturiser. This was included in their July Subscription Box.

    Glow’s Defence Moisturiser
    Why am I using this?

I fancied a change! It’s very easy to stick to one, trusted body moisturiser for morning and evening use. But it can get boring! Changing up my body care routine using this was what I fancied and I was curious what this product was like anyway, so why not try it out?

What is this supposed to do?

Glow’s moisturisers are designed to be highly moisturising but not be too heavy or thick in consistency or on the skin. Ideal for dry skin, and comes in different versions which have different benefits to the skin. Defence is a cooling cream and can help as an insect repellent.

    Packaging

This comes in a white pot with a screw top lid. Very simple in look, and will sit in any bathroom or bedroom. On a practical level, it means every bit of this moisturiser will be used with zero waste.

    Look & Texture

Defence Moisturiser is white in colour, glossy, opaque and super smooth. It’s similar in consistency to a standard body lotion but a touch thicker as it’s not as liquid and runny.

    Fragrance

Minty. Slightly sweet mint which is actually eucalyptus. Refreshing and super cooling but not too much where it smells and feels cold.

    On the skin

I’m never shy using body moisturisers, I always use WAY too much! You don’t need much, as this rubs in effortlessly and you can feel the instant moisturising action straight away. It’s not heavy on the skin, it’s not oily but richer than many standard moisturisers I’ve used before. My skin afterwards looks healthy and hydrated but not shiny. And it doesn’t feel it either as it sinks in really well and makes the body feel protected. I could throw on my clothes straight away without them sticking to my skin.

The fragrance of this is long lasting but becomes fainter over time. I love the scent of this on my skin! Especially during the warmer season of Summer because in a strange way it’s quite neutral and fresh and clean.

    Recommeded?

This is a highly moisturising product which will leave your skin feeling hydrated without feeling weighed down. Slightly cooling on the skin but not cold, and I think this makes a great alternative to the usual body moisturisers and scents available on the market. A great one for the guys to use and/or those that don’t want specific fragrance types e.g floral, woody, fruity etc. It’s a beautiful product that does what it’s designed to do and only costs £6.00 for 110g and comes in three different versions:

    *Detoxify

    *Content

    *Defence

These can be found on the website here for purchasing.

  • A Bit Of Luxury From Glow’s Raspberry Candy Floss Body Butter

As much as I love using body care products there are certain things I could use more regularly. But there is one thing I use religiously without fail morning and evening which is some form of body moisturiser. Why? I HATE dry skin on my body! Tight, dry, ashy in colour. It’s just not for me. One of my favourite types of body moisturisers has got to be a body butter. One I’m currently using is Glow’s Raspberry Candy Floss Body Butter which was part of their March Subscription Box.

Glow’s Raspberry Candy Floss Body Butter
    Why did I use this?

I’ve used Amber & lavender Body Butter (GIFTED) from Glow and I loved it! But with body butters I don’t use them all the time. It’s when I want an extra hit of moisturisation, protection on the skin and sometimes fragrance when I grab one to use. Body butters are so comforting and give dry skin a jump start. This is why I started to use this.

    Texture & Look

This body butter looks solid but soft at the same time. There’s a slight sheen to it and it reminds me of opening up a tinned lip balm although is opaque and cream in colour. The body butter holds it shape in the pot but you can tell once you put your finger in it it’s not totally solid. Soft, lots of slip and has an oiliness to it when rubbed between the fingers and will go from solid to liquid in a flash.

    Fragrance

I’m still in two minds whether this is more strawberry in scent than raspberry. This reminds me of how strawberry flavoured Chewits (the sweets) smell. It definitely has that berry, sweet, sugary scent to it that you associate with candy floss. But honestly, it’s strawberry Chewits to my nose and I LOVE IT!

    Ingredients

Ingredients include shea butter and cocoa seed butter.

    On the skin

I didn’t need to use much of Raspberry Candy Floss Body Butter. Enough to cover a finger tip was enough for each body part. It melted in within seconds of rubbing into my skin so applying was quick and easy and it left a visible shine. It didn’t feel heavy or massively oily or sticky on the skin but it was typical balm/butter texture like. My skin felt and looked very moisturised, protected and cocooned which is what I would hope for with this type of product.

The fragrance made this even more enjoyable to use. It wasn’t sickly or too sweet on the skin, it just smelt so good!

With this containing a fragrance I did wonder if my skin wouldn’t like it. I’ve mentioned in previous posts the current heat in the UK has made my skin easily irritated. And this actually has caused no issues at all! In fact it’s keeping these areas in great condition because they aren’t drying out and are healing well. The fragrance was still there the following day, although softer, but just as nice. My skin the following day wasn’t shiny but supple, not dry and in great condition.

    Recommended?

Body butters aren’t for everyone. Some people don’t like rich textured body products that leave a layer on the skin in the form of an oil, balm etc. This isn’t for them. What Raspberry Candy Floss Body Butter is is an incredibly luxurious, rich, thick, highly moisturising body product. It’s a joy to apply and have on the skin and the fragrance makes it even more special. It does what it’s supposed to do which is moisturise, and more so. So if like me a body butter is one of those things you have in your body care collection, THIS needs to be added to it so totally recommended!

All of Glow’s body butters are 120g each and cost only £4.50. There are various different fragrances available (when available). Visit the website here and keep an eye on when this is back in stock as it’s currently sold out! Not surprised..

  • Dirty Works Bahama Balm-A Coconut Body Balm

A body moisturiser is a must in a daily body care routine. There is nothing worse than having tight, dry looking and feeling skin. But soft, smooth and well moisturised skin not only looks good but is more comfortable to be in. That’s why I love this type of product so much! I was given lots of different skin and body products from a friend recently including 100ml of Dirty Works Bahama Balm-A Coconut Body Balm. So I switched up my body care routine and slipped this into it to see how it performed.

    Why did I use this?

I’ve been using Aveeno body lotion morning and night for months. As great as it is there’s no smell to it and I fancied something with a scent. I did hope Dirty Works Bahama Balm-A Coconut Body Balm would be quite a rich texture to keep my skin well moisturised and fragranced at the same time.

What does this supposed to do?

This is supposed to be a tropical scented, highly moisturising body product which will leave the skin fragranced and nourished.

    My skin type

The skin on my body is in good condition. Having black skin means it can lose moisture very quickly but with regular moisturising it can be kept at bay. I also have psoriasis. My skin sometimes has small, itchy irritated areas (especially going into warmer months) so a regular body product of some kind is a must to soothe and stop my skin from drying out.

    Packaging

100ml comes in a flip topped plastic tube. It’s eye catching, thanks to it’s slightly tropical designed images (coconut, flowers) and the colouring (peachy pink and turquoise). It doesn’t scream a hard working product to me but more of a fun product to use.

Dirty Works Bahama Balm-A Coconut Body Balm
    Fragrance

A lightly sugared but not sickly coconut scent. It’s not heavy or strong and quite pleasant.

    Consistency

I thought this would be thicker than a lotion but not as thick as a body butter. But it looks like a body lotion in consistency to me. White in colour, fluid and smooth.

    On the skin

It rubbed into my skin easily and sank in pretty much straight away. When it was applied it felt and acted like a lotion. My skin felt and looked quite matt and although it had a sense of something being placed on it, it didn’t feel particularly moisturised. On the skin it was so light weight it disappeared. It didn’t give my skin the protection I hoped it would get.

The fragrance was there and it was nice. But what I wanted alongside the fragrance was my body to feel cocooned which it didn’t.

My small patches of irritated skin didn’t like this body balm. In fairness, fragranced products is something I try to avoid when my skin plays up but sometimes you just want to smell nice! So not something I would or could use if my skin was having an awkward moment in the future.

Dirty Works Body Balm & Sugar Scrub
    Recommended?

This wasn’t the product for me. I wanted Dirty Works Bahama Balm-A Coconut Body Balm to be slightly richer and thicker, more protective and leave my skin feeling plumped and smooth. It did feel smooth but not moisturised enough. This was far too light weight for me so not something I would purchase myself but I probably would have liked this 20 years ago.

If you like your sweet scents, a product quick and easy to use, non greasy leaves skin matt, you would probably like this. It’s not expensive. On Amazon the 200ml size is £3.99. But if you suffer from dry and sensitive skin, look for another alternative.

  • *New* Glow’s Amber & Lavender Body Butter

Lets talk body butters. You either love their rich consistency or you hate the feel of it on your skin. Personally, I LOVE them! They are the ultimate body moisturiser for those with dry skin and people who want to cocoon their body with a super pumped textured product. I’ve used many in the past, but one of the newest body butters added to my body care collection is Glow’s Amber & Lavender Body Butter *GIFTED*

Glow’s Amber & Lavender Body Butter
Why have I been using this?

I’m a texture girl. I love thick, luxurious, moisturising textured body products. I find body butters are perfect for my Afro Caribbean skin, which naturally can dry out very easily. And this seemed a perfect product to keep my skin looking and feeling in tip top condition.

    Fragrance

Amber & Lavender Body Butter is a very clean and fresh fragranced body product. Straight away, it has an almost ‘mineral’ like scent to it. It’s lightly sweetened, has an obvious (but not strong) herbal lavender scent to this with a touch of musk. I find this scent to be very comforting and relaxing. It’s heavenly and a pleasure to smell!

    Texture

This is a slightly different textured body butter compared to others I’ve used in the past. In the pot it looks thick and solid, zero movement or wobble. Scoop it out and it does have a slightly solid feel to it, almost chalk like rather than waxy. But within seconds on the skin it partially melts. And when rubbed into the skin it feels quite whipped in it’s texture and super soft.

    In Use

I used a finger tip of this body butter to cover my arms. I noticed when using this I didn’t need to use too much. The small amount I took covered a good amount of my body. It didn’t need to be worked in because it melted into my skin. So rubbing it even further into my skin was fast and easy. I didn’t get the greasy feel some body butters give although there was some slip to this. My body didn’t feel oily, greasy, sticky or have a heavy body product on it. Amber & Lavender Body Butter felt light weight and moisturising.

My skin looked very well moisturised but as mentioned without the greasy look. The skin on my body felt soft and smooth. But I do need to mention the fragrance. The aroma caught me before even applying this to my body. It’s intoxicating, rich, relaxing but not headache giving. In fact, the fragrance I could smell all night after application and even in the morning which I loved! This, because of the scent, is perfect for night time use to help unwind and relax.

    Recommended?

When it comes to bath and body care products, there are two elements which I think are important. They have to do their job and they have to be enjoyable to use. This body butter was both! On a practical level it moisturised without making me feel like I had been deep fried. It made my skin look nourished and feel soft. The fragrance is literally to die for and made this body butter an even more special body product to use. Recommended? There’s no question this is a must to buy. This costs £4.50 for 120g and comes in a variety of fragrances which would cover everyone’s fragrance needs.

Treat yourself here your skin deserves it!
