  • Maui Moisture Coconut Coffee Body Scrub & Wash. Hit, Miss or Maybe?

I’m trying sooo hard not to make unnecessary purchases when it comes to body and skincare products. I haven’t been awful but I know I could resist splashing the cash so much more! But if I made no purchases at all, especially bargain ones, I wouldn’t be me. Recently I caved and bought a bottle or 3 (some are gifts!) of Maui Moisture’s Coconut Coffee Body Scrub & Wash. Bought from Home Bargains, at a cost of 99p each for 577ml.

Maui Moisture Coconut Coffee Body Scrub & Wash
    Why did I buy this?

Three reasons in the following order… the brand, the cost and the size! This is not a cheap brand, so the price and size was brilliant! And I’ve tried products from this range before but not for the bath or shower, so I wanted to see what this was like.

    What is this?

This is designed to gently exfoilate the skin, while hydrating it and making the skin on the body look more healthy.

    How to use

Create a lather by massaging all over the body and then rinse.

    Texture

White in colour and looks very much like a body lotion. Smooth, but you can see some very small white coloured particles in this. Although it does look like a body lotion (except for the bits!), it feels slightly gel like.

    Fragrance

When I first smelt this I didn’t now whether I liked the fragrance or not. It smells like sweetened creamy coconut with the slight hint of coffee but nothing too obvious, as it’s quite tropical and has an almost vanilla like element in the scent.

    In the shower

The first few times I used this I treated it like a traditional body scrub. I rubbed it into damp skin with my hands and it was a total fail! So instead I added it onto a sponge as I would with any body wash, and this was when it performed so much better. On the sponge it created a creamy lather rather than airy bubbles. It was very nice on the skin, quite luxurious and overall an enjoyable texture.

The scrub particles were there. Small in size and very few in this product. I didn’t feel like it exfoliated my skin because there weren’t enough particles in it. It almost ‘tickled’ my skin but gave no physical benefits.

Fragrance was there while I was using this and I found it to be pleasant. Despite my initial thoughts, I found the more I used this the more I liked it. Quite a comforting scent overall and not too strong.

My skin after use felt quite fresh, clean and not dried out. I’ve been suffering from itchy patches of skin since the weather has been warmer and this body wash has caused no issues.

    My Issues

When I went to purchase this I already had some mis-givings. How could something be an effective body wash AND scrub? And in my opinion this isn’t. It’s a great body wash. Everything you want from something you wash your body with this will do it and a little bit more. But a scrub? Nope! I sort of feel as if the scrub part of this is gimmicky and to makes it a bit different, but it’s not a scrub.

    Recommended?

The more I’ve used this the more I like it. It’s a bit different in my opinion to other body washes on the market but just as easy to use and effective in the job of cleaning the skin. Fragrance and texture is thumbs up. Non drying formula, all good points and what you should get as standard. The size is great and if you grab it for 99p that’s brilliant value because the brand of Maui as already mentioned, isn’t the cheapest out there! But I wouldn’t recommended this if you’re looking for a traditional body scrub, it just won’t cut it.

  • First Impressions Of My First Ever Scentsy Order

As a wax melt lover I’ve heard of the brand Scentsy because.. they sell wax melts. What I didn’t know was they also sell bath and body products too. As you can imagine, this perked up my interest ten fold! So I thought to myself, if I ever make an order, it would include both wax and body. And guess what? That’s exactly what I did! I received my first order from Scentsy recently which included treats for the home and the body.

    Scentsy Wax & Body Products
Why did I make an order?

Do you want me to be 100% honest? Regardless of my curiosity about the brand the price per product put me off. But there was a flash sale on their website a few weeks ago which made many items super affordable. So THIS was the perfect time to buy and try so I did.

    What did I order?

2 Disney The Last Petal Wax Melts, 1 Disney Villains Dark and Devious Wax Melt, 2 Disney Jack’s Obsession Wax Melts, 2 Hibiscus Pineapple Body Scrubs, 2 Pineapple Coconut Vanilla Body Scrubs and 2 Cloudberry Hand Soaps.

First Impressions – The Wax Melts

I adore the look of the wax melts! When I say the look I mean how they are packaged. Scentsy have partnered with brands such as Disney which means they can use official images from them and use their logo. It may only be a label on plastic, but for some it makes a difference and for me it stands out.

The amount of wax you get isn’t actually as much as it appears to be because of how the wax is segmented and the shape of it. But it should be enough to provide hours of fragrance though. The wax melts weigh 74g each.

Do you know what’s interesting? When you open the lid the opening is sealed, like a skincare product. I didn’t expect that! That meant I couldn’t have a crafty sniff to see what these smelt like.

I would be surprised if the wax itself was covered in glitter or other colours. But from what I can see these wax melts are one block colour with nothing added to it.

    Scentsy Disney Wax Melt Bars
    Hand Wash

Very cute packaging. I don’t feel it’s particularly modern in look but does have a homely feel to it. Nicely shaped but goodness me these are small! 228ml of hand wash is what you would get, which wouldn’t last my household 2 seconds. Ideal size for a super small toilet. Just to note on their website some hand washes are slightly bigger in size but not by much.

    Body Scrubs

Packaging of this is quite standard. 237ml of scrub in a lidded tub. They look nice enough, the amount of scrub you get is acceptable but smell and texture wise no comment because they are sealed just like the wax is.

Scentsy Hand Wash & Body Scrubs
    My Overall Thoughts

These are based on look alone as I haven’t tried or sniffed any of these products, yet. When it comes to the wax melts, having proper licensed products is brilliant if you are a fan of that brand or giving it as a gift to a fan. I love that. I can buy wax from vendors who have inspired wax products when it comes to scents and how it looks, but due to copywriting it has to be ‘inspired’. So I think the idea of being connected to brands is great. But for full price the wax is expensive. These wax melts normally cost £7.25 and I got each of these for around £2.25.

The packaging for the hand wash and the scrubs although very nice, I’m not sure they would stand out in a physical shop. Compared to other brands, I don’t think they are as appealing. But the hand wash in particular has a sweetness to it. Shall we talk about price? The hand wash was £7.25 and I think I got this for half price. The body scrub was £14.25 I got them for just over £2.00 each. What I paid I think was fair and I would even say for all the pieces was good value, but at full price no. It’s not just how much a product is that can make it not affordable, but the idea of repeat purchasing as well.

    Recommended?

I can’t answer that properly until I’ve actually tried these products. But what I’ve bought I’m happy with and also happy with what I paid. Some of these are for myself, and others are gifts, which hopefully the recipients will love. So from look and price alone I would say it’s worth a purchase if you can get pieces at similar prices to me. Full price? Too expensive for my wallet. But my budget and what I would be willing to spend could be different to someone else so that’s a personal thing.

So you will have to wait to see what I think of the quality of these products from Scentsy. Are they worth the price?

  • Treacle Moon’s Coconut Island Body Scrub

Hands up who forgets about their body during winter? It’s cold and wet. Most of us are walking around wearing 5 layers of clothes. And let’s not mention the over indulgence during Christmas and New Year! So no surprise if the condition of the skin on our body isn’t top of our to do list, right? But our skin is our biggest organ, and keeping it in good shape doesn’t have to be a massive or expensive chore. Realising I haven’t been taking my own advice on board in regards to body care, I’ve dragged out my Treacle Moon’s Coconut Island Body Scrub to get my skin feeling silky smooth. I bought this in Tesco some time ago when it was half price for £1.50.

Treacle Moon’s Coconut Island Body Scrub

Why did I use this one? I do have a few body scrubs floating around. But I chose this one because I wanted a product that would be quick and easy to use in the mornings before work. No fuss, use, in and out and gone!

Packaging. 225ml of body scrub is housed in a plastic flip top bottom tube. A descriptive paragraph on the front conjuring images connected with the fragrance of this scrub is a lovely touch. And the usual info including such as ingredients can be found on the back.

Texture. Similar to a body lotion. It held its shape as it came out of the tube but wasn’t totally solid. White in colour, but small, brown pieces/grains were clearly visible. These are tiny pieces of coconut shell that act as the exfoliator. Despite these pieces, the scrub itself looked shiny, opaque and smooth.

Scent. I’ve tried various coconut scented products over the last few months, so I already had an idea in my mind what this would smell like but I was wrong. There was a slight tropical scent to this, but what really put a smile on my face was the sweetness. Imagine a small element of coconut, mixed in with sugar and a vanilla pod scraped into it. Slowly mixed together over heat. Leaving a gooey, sugary, comforting smell wafting in the air. THIS is what it smells like and its DEVINE! Bakery like in scent family, but not sickly or over the top.

How to use. On the packaging it doesn’t mention how many times a week you should apply this. Traditionally, body or face scrubs products advise twice to three times a week in regards to application. But it does state it should be massaged onto damp skin using circular movements. Rinsed off and body towel dried.

In the shower. I applied this to damp skin. I wasn’t frugal with the amount I used. A decent sized blob on each part of my body e.g arms, legs, torso etc, which was rubbed in. I could feel the grains in the scrub. Perfect size as they didn’t hurt as I moved the scrub around on my skin but I could feel them, which is what you want. Easy to wash off in the shower.

Skin afterwards. I didn’t realise this until I was just about to apply body lotion to my skin, but it felt very soft and smooth! Didn’t feel or look dry and I could easily have skipped moisturising if I wanted or needed to, but didn’t.

Recommended? Definitely! I’ve used a few products from Treacle Moon and so happy to say like the others, this has been a joy to use and not disappointed me. The scent was beautiful, it was easy and fun to use and did exactly what I needed it to. I genuinely couldn’t ask or expect anything more. It’s not an expensive product at full price. £3.00 for 225ml and to use this twice a week? This should last ( dependant on the amount you use of course ), a good month if not 2, so great value. Although I got bargain when bought at half it’s rrp.

I don’t think the scrub is available in Tesco anymore ( not in my nearest one anyway ), but you can order this direct from Treacle Moon here. Which is great because they have free delivery with a £15.00 or over spend AND their full range of shower/bath gels and hand creams are there too! Happy shopping!

  • Bath Beauty Babe’s Strawberry Cheesecake Sugar Body Scrub

Instagram will be the death of me! There is nothing worse than a visual platform throwing pictures in my face of bath and body products. It literally is a shop front window living in my phone screen! Temptation getting the better of me, I made an order from a Manchester based small business called Bath Beauty Babe (formally known as Jenny Makes For You). One of the products I ordered was Strawberry Cheesecake Sugar Body Scrub which was on sale for £5.10 instead of £8.50.

    Why did I buy this?

I’ve had my eye on this vendor’s products for ages. I needed a body scrub so this being on sale was timed perfectly. The look of this, the name, the scent description hooked me in 110%.

    What does this do?

This is a sugar based scrub with cocoa butter and coconut oil. These ingredients will provide a hardworking body scrub, while moisturising the skin during and after use.

Bath Beauty Babe’s Strawberry Cheesecake Sugar Body Scrub
    Packaging

240g of scrub comes in a lidded plastic tub. The labelling is fun and the tub itself is clear so you can see what pampering product is in it.

    Hoes does this look?

It LOOKS just like a cheesecake! If you look at the side of the packaging you can see two distinctive layers. You have the base which colour and texture wise looks just like the biscuit base of a cheesecake, and the top layer same texture but pink in colour. So when I took off the lid, of course this is a scrub, so the pink section isn’t whipped or cream like but a jam packed scrub which was identical to the bottom.

    Texture

Lots and lots of very fine grains. Think of caster sugar consistency. Its not a totally dry sugar scrub as I could feel a light coating of some sort, but it doesn’t sit in a pot full of oil and grease.

    Fragrance

Strawberry Cheesecake Sugar Body Scrub has two layers to it and two different fragrances. The top layer is fruity, strawberry/berry like and sweet but not sickly. The bottom layer has a light citrus, orange hint to it with a little vanilla. This gives it a bakery type of scent which makes this scrub not only look like a cheesecake but smell similar to one too!

    In the shower

I used this scrub on wet skin while in the shower. I used enough to cover three fingertips and applied it to the top half of my body. Then delved in for a little more for the rest of me. It spread over my skin easily, and I could feel the grains of sugar working against it providing an exfoliating action. The scent was there which I loved, and made this a pleasure not a chore.

    On the skin

After I applied this, I had a bath ready to slip into, so I could gently rinse this off. Once it was off I was surprised how soft and silky my skin felt. My skin felt very moisturised as if some form of light oil had been applied to it. Once my body was dried, it still felt silky soft, highly moisturised but not greasy. I could even detect the fragrance on my skin too which was very light but still delicious.

    Recommended?

This is a beautiful scrub. The look of it is fun, the fragrance is mouth watering but it’s still a hard working product. It does everything you want a scrub to do and is enjoyable to use. These combined mean I would buy this again in a heartbeat! This is one of those products which is a great treat for yourself or perfect for gift giving.

Fancy this body scrub in your shopping basket? It’s currently available on the website for £8.50.
