  • May Round Up, What Products Did I Use?

May finally was a good month for me. Why? The constant running and blocked nose thanks to hay fever slowly left the building and my senses finally returned to their normal glory. It means I’ve been able to use lots of products that I could actually SMELL and appreciate and I could finally review. So what products did I use in the month of May?

    Products used in May
Snow Fairy Bath Bomb from LUSH

This was the first I’ve ever used this bath bomb and I can understand what all the fuss has been about over the years! Snow Fairy Bath Bomb smells amazing, looks super pretty, colours the bath in a lovely shade of pink and is surprisingly very moisturising! Definitely a winner for me!

Dirty Work’s Bahama Balm-A Coconut Body Balm

Given to me by a friend, I was hoping Dirty Works Bahama Balm-A Coconut Body Balm would be a tropical hit of moisture. But I found this to be too light weight for my skin although it smelt pretty nice. Not for me, but passed to my teenage son so it doesn’t go to waste.

Selfless by Hyram’s Centella & Green Tea Gel Cleanser

A purchase I resisted for many weeks but finally caved in. Selfless by Hyram’s Centella & Green Tea Gel Cleanser is a really good, non fragranced and easy to use cleanser. It’s gentle on the skin but effective on removing dirt and sun cream. And this was brilliantly priced so much I could afford to buy a few for future use.

Yankee Candle’s Lemon Lavender Fragrance Spheres

For £1.99 this makes a Yankee Candle product a good buy. But my own personal experience made me think this wasn’t money well spent. This smelt nice but the strength just wasn’t there. I’ve heard and read people have found these to be very good, so maybe I chose the wrong fragrances. But this is a no from me and I won’t buy another one unfortunately.

Glow’s Crime Scene Investigators April Wax Subscription Box

I’ve fallen in love with all the subscription boxes I’ve received from Glow. They are brimmed with products which makes great value, imaginatively themed and fantastic quality. Crime Scene Investigators April Wax Subscription Box (which I won in a competition) was no exception! Crafted with care with a mix of unusual and fabulous scents, I loved every piece in this collection.

Smooch Vixen By So…? Eau de Parfum

I’m a great believer good fragrances don’t need to be expensive. Smooch Vixen By So…? Eau de Parfum is a beautifully scented fragrance housed in a very cute bottle. This wasn’t expensive and currently on their website for under £5.00 for 30ml. Great for all ages and as I’ve discovered the perfect fragrance to be nicked by a pre-teen!

Smooch by So…? Vixen Eau de Parfum

So that is my May round up done and dusted! Which one was my favourite? That’s a hard question to answer. But this month I enjoyed more products than not enjoying. Let’s see what June has in store, can’t wait!

  • Smooch Vixen By So…? Eau de Parfum

I’m a fragrance junkie. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a cheap body mist or an expensive perfume, I can appreciate them all as long as they smell good. But my credit card is happier when the fragrance of choice is more on the affordable side. That’s why I have Smooch Vixen by So…? Eau de Parfum in my fragrance collection. I bought this when it was on sale and normally retails for £9.99 for 30ml.

Smooch Vixen By So…? Eau de Parfum
    Why did I buy this?

So Fragrance’s website had a sale and I was purchasing body mists for my daughter. They were all fun fragrances and budget friendly, perfect for an 11 year old. This caught my eye because of how it looked, the fact it was an actual perfume rather than body mist and the price was right so I bought it for myself!

    Packaging

Smooch Vixen comes in a lip shaped spray bottle. The back and bottom is flat (it stands up), but the front is raised giving the look of a pair of lips from the front. Purple in colour, metallic in appearance which is very eye catching. The lid is the top lip which just lifts off and the fragrance dispenses in the usual spray top way. This comes in a purple box with a pair of lips on the front. This is very fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

    How does this smell?

This eau de parfum is a mix of blackcurrant, ginger, warm coffee, sweet toffee, liquorice, almond and tonka bean. When I smell this it’s mainly fruity in a dark berry kind of way with an added bakery sweetness with musk. It’s stunning!

    Strength & Longevity

The strength of this fragrance is medium. When it’s applied it’s a very noticeable scent which is welcomed by me. Longevity is good. I use this before work and mid shift I can still smell it. Could this last longer? Everything could last longer for me but this does the job.

    Recommended?

I’m so glad I took a chance and bought this! The bottle has a great shape and perfect size to slip into a bag and being boxed means perfect for gift giving. It will appeal to so many people. But it’s the fragrance that bowls me over. This is MY type of fragrance and it’s gorgeous! I think most people would find this scent just as appealing as I do too, so totally recommended. In fact, I need to buy another one as my 11 year old has just stolen this off me!

Smooch Vixen By So…? Eau de Parfum is currently on the website on sale for £4.99. It’s definitely one I would repurchase in a heart beat.

  • A Fragrance for Under £5.00! Lidl’s Lovely Eau de Parfum

If you’ve read any of my previous blog posts, you will know I don’t turn my nose up at products that are labelled as ‘cheap’. In fact, I LOVE affordable products! How much you spend isn’t always a reflection on quality of a product. There are so many low to mid-priced ranges out there that are fantastic in quality, you would be crazy not to try things out and hopefully save yourself some money. So, guess what I picked up while grabbing a frozen pizza and a tub of ice-cream recently? A bottle of Lovely Eau de Parfum from the supermarket Lidl. This retails at £4.45 for 75ml.

    Lidl’s Lovely Eau de Parfum
    Why did I buy this?

I browsed the personal care section in Lidl and saw a selection of fragrances. Testers on the shelf, I spritzed and sniffed, and I realised I liked the scent of all the ones I showered myself with. I normally purchase a body mist because they are affordable. But Lidl’s Lovely Eau de Parfum is not that much different in price to body mists available, so I thought it was worth a purchase.

    Packaging

75ml of fragrance comes in a clear, glass bottle. It’s wider at the bottom and comes in closer at the top so the shape is very appealing. The bottle itself comes boxed. Off white in colour with gold and black writing on it.

I don’t expect much for less than £5.00 but the packaging is very plain and basic. It’s not the most interesting packaging I have ever seen but it’s not worst. What I didn’t like was how the box wasn’t in plastic. The plastic finishes it off and gives it a more professional look whether it’s for a gift or for yourself. And dare I say you know if it’s wrapped in plastic no one has opened and used it!

    Fragrance, How Does It Smell?

This gives me a Spring/Summer vibe. It’s floral based and has a powdery element to it. It’s quite clean and fresh but not heavy. I wouldn’t say this a modern fragrance but it’s not old fashioned either. What I would call it is a classic feminine floral fragrance which smells really good.

    Strength & Longevity

Strength is a medium. I can be quite heavy handed with fragrances as I apply them mainly in the morning before work and want it to last. The strength doesn’t knock me out but it envelopes and comforts me. And at the end of a 4 hour shift I can still smell this although it’s not as strong as when first applied.

Longevity isn’t bad at all! It lasts throughout the morning but to give a boost to strength a reapplication is needed around mid-day.

    Is this a Dupe?

I’ve read that Lidl’s fragrances are based on well-known designer fragrances. Which one this is inspired I can’t be 100% sure because I’m reading conflicting information about it. One name that pops up is Dior’s J’Adore which I cannot confirm or deny as I don’t own it and haven’t smelt it.

    Recommended?

I would, for a few reasons. The fragrance is beautiful. It has a decent strength and longevity to it. Good size and of course, the price means it’s affordable. You won’t feel the need to hold back using this or keep it for special occasions. Ideal to pop into your bag for work, college, or leave it on your desk. I think how this smells would appeal to a wide range of people regardless of age. Great gift idea too but I personally wouldn’t give it on its own. It doesn’t look special enough. What I would do it maybe add a nice bath bomb and lotion to give it a bit more of a wow factor.

This gets the thumbs up from me. If you’ve skipped the fragrances in your local Lidl store, it might be worthwhile giving this a try as I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

  • Bespoke London’s Wild Herbs & Tonka Bean EDP For Men

The days of buying fragrances for just myself are over! I now have to buy them for my daughter and my son as well. They both have a decent collection that’s been added to over time. Since my son is officially a teenager, I will treat him to more grown up fragrances for special occasions e.g birthday’s, which will go beyond a body spray or mist. On his last birthday I bought him from Superdrug, Bespoke London’s Wild Herbs & Tonka Bean Eau de Parfum. At the time it was half price and cost £4.98.

Bespoke London’s Wild Herbs & Tonka Bean Eau de Parfum
    Why did I buy this?

I enjoy finding new fragrances and brands. Opting for the usual ones on the market isn’t my style. The fragrance description on the website sounded interesting, it smelt nice in the store (yes I paid it a visit!) and the price was perfect for a young teen! I didn’t want to spend too much so I was SOLD!

    Packaging

I love how this looks. 100ml of fragrance comes in a chunky, glass cylinder shaped bottle. It’s blue in colour but transparent. The box it comes in is in the same shade of blue. It’s very cleanly presented and I think any aged recipient would like this.

    How does this smell?

There’s an earthy, lightly woody and marine style scent to this. Its fresh and clean but there’s a delicate sweetness added. This killer combination is why I use this myself despite it clearly being masculine in style and scent.

    Strength & Longevity

The strength of this is perfect in my opinion, and it’s a medium. If it was strong I think it would be too heady and way too noticeable. I would smell my son before he entered a room and I don’t want him to be overwhelmed in fragrance and neither should he.

Longevity is decent. When my son uses this or I ‘borrow’ it, we apply this onto clothes not onto skin. And I can still smell it hours later although the strength isn’t the same as first applied.

    Does my son like this?

Most parents will know that young teenagers rarely do things they don’t want to do and my son happily uses this! A few sprays before school, on the way out of the house and when he realises his own personal odour isn’t great he will grab this. So it’s safe to say he likes this.

    Recommended?

Oh yes! Don’t always head towards designer fragrances because there will always be gems out there you would never know existed if you didn’t look! This is a good size, looks nice, smells beautiful and the price means the men (or women, it layers nicely with more feminine fragrances) in your life will smell great without it costing a fortune! Ideal purchase for a pre/teen and great for those conscious of cost!

This fragrance along with others in the range are currently half price at Superdrug. Great time to purchase while priced so well. Available here and it’s worth a mention there’s also a women’s subrange too…..
