  • Garnier SkinActive’s Pure Charcoal Black Tissue Mask

    The recent heatwave in the UK KILLED ME! Just when I was ready to enjoy the start of the Autumn season the UK delivered blistering heat consistently hitting 27 and above degrees! Have I enjoyed it? No! And neither has my skin. Even though I walked around with a constantly wet face, I was worried about hydration and the general condition of my skin. Easiest and quickest thing for me to do was use a mask, so I dug out Garnier SkinActive’s Pure Charcoal Black Tissue Mask.

    Why did I use this?

    My skin feels all over the place at the moment. The heat made me spotty and a little oily and just looking and feeling a bit rubbish. So, a little quick fix pampering was needed. I wanted something hydrating, soothing and comforting on the skin and I hoped this would do the trick!

    What is this supposed to do?

    Garnier SkinActive’s Pure Charcoal Black Tissue Mask is designed to hydrate (contains hyaluronic acid), purify and unclog pores (black algae and charcoal).

    How to use

    Take out of sachet, unfold and place onto clean skin for 15 minutes. Ideally follow up with other skincare products from the Garnier range.

    How does it look?

    The material this is made out of is typical of sheet masks. Material like, quite thick but not rigid. Holes are cut out for the nose, eyes and mouth and this mask is black in colour.

    Fragrance

    This was quite a fresh scent, almost verging on masculine. I’m used to masks having a floral base to it scent wise, so this was different and welcomed. Neutral, fresh, almost mineral like. Very pleasant, not strong and not distracting.

    On the face

    Taking this mask out of it’s sachet it was saturated with solution so quite wet in feel and look. Garnier Skin Active’s Pure Charcoal Black Tissue Mask was very easy to place onto my face and needed very little positioning. It sat on well, no slipping and all the various holes were big enough to provide a comfortable wear.

    The first thing I noticed was how incredibly cooling this was on the face. 15 minutes felt like 5 seconds and I enjoyed this sensation on my skin a lot. The fragrance wasn’t particularly noticeable.

    Did I mention I felt like a bank robber wearing this? Couldn’t help having a good laugh at my appearance.

    After use

    When I took this off some of the solution was still on my face which I patted in. It didn’t look greasy but I could tell something was on it, but it soon disappeared. My skin looked and felt a little fresher and it did feel a little more hydrated. After an hour or so I felt my skin needed something else added to it to give it a little moisture top up so added a product from Glow to finish it off.

    Recmmended?

    Personally, I think it’s hard to get a skincare tissue mask wrong. All of them should be easy and comfortable to wear. They should hydrate and provide a pampering experience. This face mask does all of the above. Did it fix particular issues or concerns of mine e.g hyperpigmentation? Spots (caused by the heat in the UK)? No. That’s not what this is designed to do. But what it did do it did well. What I like about this mask is it’s readily available in supermarkets and various stores on the high street or online, so easy to purchase.

    At the moment, the cheapest I could find this mask was from ASDA for £2.33.

  • Garnier Moisture Bomb Eye Tissue Mask, Do These Work?

    Oh to be young again! As much as I am grateful to spend another year on this planet I can’t help but think about when I was younger. Things seemed so much easier then. One thing I took for granted was my skin. The only thing I had to worry about on my face was the occasional spot and that was it! Now it’s a different matter. I get a spot and it scars. I have a decent night’s sleep and I still wake up looking like I haven’t slept for days. My skin just doesn’t bounce back the way it used to. Thanks to this I take my skincare products more seriously now compared to then. But I also enjoying using quick fix measures for the here and now. The last product I used that fell into this category was Garnier Skin Active’s Moisture Bomb Eye Tissue Mask. I picked this up from my local Tesco store for £2.00.

    Why am I using this?

    My eyes have always been my face downfall and an area that I feel lets me down. I want my under eye area to look alive but most of the time they are dead! I’ve found these types of mask don’t perform magic, but they can give immediate comforting effects and takes the edge off the zombie look, even if it’s for a few hours. And that’s what I was hoping for with this.

    What is this supposed to do?

    Designed for tired and lifeless under eyes, these eye masks are supposed to make this area appear brighter, awake and fresher. Thanks to it containing ingredients such as orange juice and hyaluronic acid, these should hydrate the under eyes and make any bags look less harsh.

    What do these look like?

    Typical eye mask shaped. They follow the shape of the under eye and become less wide at the ends. The material this is made from is what you would expect from a facial skincare tissue mask. Larger in size compared to other eye tissue masks I’ve tried before so they have a generous surface area.

    How to apply

    Apply eye masks to cleansed skin. Smooth out so it’s flat and leave on for 15 minutes. Massage any remaining solution left on skin after removal into the skin or take off with a cotton pad.

    On the skin

    Very easy to apply although when I took these out of the sachet they were stuck together, and I accidently used both of them on one eye by accident. These were incredibly moist thanks to being drenched in serum/solution, so they clung to my skin independently with no slipping and sliding. Very comfortable on the skin and cooling too. For once I remembered to put these in the fridge before use and this added to this sensation.

    One thing that struck me straight away was how big these were in size. It covered my under eyes alright, and pretty much covered the top of my cheek bones! I did think it was strange at first but I actually appreciated this because it felt so relaxing on the skin.

    Taking these off I did see a little sheen under my eyes. Whatever solution was still there I dabbed in. There was a sense of a moisture hit, but felt it could have been more long lasting and a touch more intense.

    Did these visibly reduce eye bags and brighten eye contours?

    No. Not mine anyway. Firstly, I wouldn’t say I have eye bags. What I would say is this area does look tired and a touch darker at times. Occasionally, if super tired or suffering from hay fever, my under eyes can be a little puffy. But this area didn’t look any different after using these compared to before use. They didn’t look more fresher, brighter or anything like that. I was sneaky and I used these eye masks twice. Once at night, the other in the morning. I put them back after the first use in the sachet and reapplied them the following day on clean skin. My under eyes looked the same both times.

    If you want to see a visible change under your eyes then I wouldn’t recommend this. Again, let’s go back to the idea of what type of product this is. You use it one time for 15 minutes, possibly never again. How much change would you expect to see? So I think it’s important to be realistic. But how can this be useful and are their any benefits to buying them? The mask itself didn’t irritate my eyes considering how close it sat to them. They did feel great on the skin and perked me up a little when worn during the morning, yet was relaxing when used at night. Plus they were hydrating but not greasy or heavy on the eye. As a nice treat these are fine for a bit of pampering. To be effective, at least for me, it’s a no. Look into an eye product such as a serum or cream that you can use daily to see a better result.

    These are low in price on a daily basis from many supermarkets and stores such Superdrug, Boots etc, so easy to pick up on your daily travels. These tend to range from £1.50 (if on a special price promotion e.g half price) up to £2.99.
