  • Glow’s Crime Scene Investigators April Wax Subscription Box Part 2

Who doesn’t love a subscription box? As long as it contains products we want and/or need most of us would agree they are a brilliant idea. The best part about it is you can get a subscription box containing pretty much anything these days. Food, drink, bath and body products and even wax melts (and more of course). It’s taken me a few weeks to be able to use and enjoy the gifted Crime Scene Investigators April Wax Subscription Box from UK based business Glow. But now I can reveal EXACTLY what these wax melts smell like and how they performed.

Glow’s Crime Scene Investigators April Wax Subscription Box
Blood Orange & Oakwood Wax Melt

Uplifting and zesty (but not sickly sweet) orange mixed in with the woody, slightly masculine oak wood with a hint of floral. This combination is AMAZING and surprised me as I’ve never smelt anything like this before.

Blood Orange & Oakwood Wax Melt
    Gunpowder Tea & Minerals

Gunpowder Tea & Minerals has an almost smoky smell to it. Think of a fire that’s just died out and the smell of it lingers. But with this it also has a sea like mineral hint to it which gives it a little freshness. There’s quite a bit of musk to this one, so it’s not for the faint hearted but I really like it!

Gunpowder Tea & Minerals Wax Melt
    In The Shadows

This is a beautiful blend of floral and fruit. The fruity element is the very distinctive rhubarb and the floral isn’t heavy, so possibly white florals rather than something heady like rose. It’s a gorgeous fragrance and perfect to melt during Summer. This is a winner for anyone who loves the smell of rhubarb and I love rhubarb.

    In The Shadows Wax Melt
Sun kissed Raisins & Autumn Leaves

Sun kissed Raisins & Autumn Leaves has an almost bakery/fruity like scent to it. There’s spices in this giving it warmth and depth. There’s a plant like element to it so a little earthy. But there’s sweetness to this and something very comforting which I suspect is vanilla. I can’t fault this fragrance!

Sunkissed Raisins & Autumn Leaves Wax Melt
    Musk Till Dawn

Musk Till Dawn is a glorious mix of woody notes and creamy, sweet coconut with a hint of floral. I would never have put these elements together but they work perfectly. This possibly could be my favourite wax melt in this subscription box.

    How did they perform?

All of these wax melts were medium in strength. They filled each room they were melting in so well I couldn’t help but smell them. Longevity wise these lasted for hours. With all of these melts having some form of shimmering pigment on them, each wax pool was very pretty to look at. And all colours of the wax were varied so not one wax pool looked like another.

    Recommended?

Every subscription box I’ve received from Glow I always think the next one can’t top it and then the following one does! The theme of this is incredibly creative but the actually scents are out of this world! I’ve never smelt any like this before and the fragrance choices are definitely risky as they aren’t typical, but worth it. Of course the overall quality is high and longevity great with obvious time and care taken putting this together. If anyone is thinking about purchasing a wax melt subscription box, look no further than Glow!

  • Yankee Candle’s Lemon Lavender Fragrance Spheres

I am a total sucker for a home fragrance product. As much as I love wax melts (they are my favourite), they aren’t always practical depending on where I want the fragrance to be. That’s why it’s so good to have other alternatives available in the world of fragrance. One alternative I bought last week was Yankee Candle’s Lemon Lavender Fragrance Spheres from Home Bargains for £1.99 (rrp £6.99).

Yankee Candle’s Lemon Lavender Fragrance Spheres
    Why did I buy this?

Yankee Candle isn’t the only home fragrance brand on the market anymore. It’s an industry that has exploded, so this brand isn’t my usual go to for these types of products. But the fragrance choice available in Home Bargains was good. I liked the idea of this being placed in smaller areas and of course the price was really affordable!

    What is a fragrance sphere?

Yankee Candle’s Fragrance Spheres are tiny gel beads infused with fragrance while being housed safely in a pot. No heat required, electricity or reeds.

    Packaging

170g of fragranced beads lives in a screw topped pot. The pot is clear so you can see the beads in it. The labelling looks typical for Yankee Candles so no mistaking what brand it’s from. And the screw top lid is grey with holes in it which allows the fragrance to be released.

    How to use

Underneath the lid of the fragrance sphere is a foil seal. Take the seal off and pop the lid back on. The beads are now exposed and the holes through the lid will help the fragrance to escape.

    Fragrance

There is clear mix of lemon and lavender. It has the herbal, relaxing scent of lavender with the cleanness of the lemon (not as citrus based as I thought) with a little sweetness to it. It’s a nice scent but even on first smell I thought this needed more power.

    In use

I put this in my downstairs toilet. It’s a small area and I thought this type of home fragrance product could work well in there. I was wrong. No matter where I placed this I struggled to get fragrance from it. Near the window, on a shelf close to the toilet, in a vase. Wherever I’ve tried to put this no mass of fragrance hit me. The most I got was a nice whiff of the scent but it wasn’t strong. Lemon Lavender Fragrance Spheres smells nice but is weak in strength.

    Recommended?

No. It looks great, easy to use and smells really great BUT the strength simply isn’t there! A fragrance that contains lavender normally is punchy and I assumed this would be and it wasn’t. I moved this to so many positions to see if it would change how this carried and it did nothing. With this being placed in such a small room I wanted to open the door and be hit with fragrance and it never happened.

Yankee Candle’s Lemon Lavender Fragrance Spheres is something I won’t be buying again.

  • Glow’s Crime Scene Investigators April Wax Subscription Box

Subscription boxes can be so much fun. They are a great way to get a collection of various products posted to you each month normally themed and priced affordably. UK wax vendor Glow’s subscription boxes definitely do this. I’ve bought (and been given) a few of these boxes over the last couple of years. The recent one (which I won) was April’s and it was waxed based and called Crime Scene Investigators.

    Glow’s April Wax Subscription Box
    What was the theme?

This subscription box is crime themed and interactive. Within the subscription box is the ‘case file’ which you use to help solve the murder of a man called Andrew Bailey. Each piece of wax and the added extras in the subscription box are related to the case.

Blood Orange & Oakwood Wax Melt
    What was included?

    5 pieces of wax.

    A clay mask.

    A small magnifying glass.

    A small notebook.

    A pen.

Case notes related to the crime.

What do the wax pieces look like & what are their fragrances?

A spanner-roughly 14cm long spanner shaped wax melt. Blue in colour with a dusting of silver pigment. Chunky, sizeable and looks easy to break up to use. Fragranced in Sun kissed Raisins & Autumn Leaves.

A shoe-shaped like the side of a shoe, this wax melt is brown in colour and is covered in a copper coloured pigment/mica. About 9cms in length and 3 cm wide. Fragranced in Blood Orange & Oakwood.

A packet of cigarettes-this wax melt is shaped like a box of cigarettes. White in colour with a copper and white coloured shimmer to it. Just over 8cm in length and 5cm across. Fragranced in Musk til Dawn.

Mobile phone-a basic mobile phone shape lilac in colour with a silver pigment on the ‘screen’. 5cm across and 10cm in length. Fragranced in Gun Powder Tea & Minerals.

Petrol can-green in colour with gold pigment on the front and fragranced in In The Shadows.

Sun kissed Raisins & Autumn Leaves Wax Melt
    Fragrances

These are not my usual wax melt fragrance choices. I would never choose these in a million years and this is why I’m glad I’m getting the chance to experience them. Each wax is quite masculine in scent, aromatic but not overwhelming. Each one smells different from each other and are very distinctive. These are beautifully scented and I can’t wait to get them melting!

Gunpowder Tea & Minerals Wax Melt
    First impressions?

This is an incredibly imaginative themed box. From the theme in general to how the wax pieces look. The added extras e.g the magnifying glass are a great touch. And the crime file and interactive element absolutely genius! The time, energy and care put into Crime Scene Investigators April Wax Subscription Box was impressive and the usual high standard I’m now used to with Glow. Every time I think their boxes can’t be beaten they release another one which is even better!

If you haven’t tried any of their wax products (wax melts and candles), you really should visit their website here. Their quality is amazing!

  • A Good Home Fragrance Product? Zoflora’s Midnight Blooms Scent Crystals

Most of us love to use some form of fragrance products in our home to give rooms a fresh and clean scent. This makes areas feel more homely, cosy and inviting. One company that already does this with their cleaning products is Zoflora. It was only recently they released new products specifically for fragrance in the form of scented sachets, wax melts, reed diffusers and scented crystals. It’s taken me time to get through my mini stash of products from this range, but recently I tried their Scent Crystals in the fragrance of Midnight Blooms. Bought from Home Bargains for under £2.00 for 180g.

    Zoflora’s Midnight Blooms Scent Crystals
    Why did I buy these?

I bought these because it made a change from grabbing a packet of wax melts. Zoflora Scent Crystals was new, I already liked the Midnight Blooms fragrance and I thought these were an affordable purchase.

    What are scent crystals?

Scent crystals are little fragranced crystals which you place in an oil burner or wax warmer. Once heated, they release fragrance the same way an oil or a piece of wax would. The main difference is there is zero cleaning up to do. Once the crystals stop giving out fragrance, once cooled, they can be thrown away. No major wiping or cleaning required.

    Packaging

Zoflora’s Scent Crystals come in a tall, plastic clear tube. You can clearly see the crystals inside it. The labelling ties in with all of the other Midnight Blooms products on the market e.g cleaning and home fragrance. Practical packaging but nothing out of the ordinary.

    How do they look?

They remind me of bath salts. Small, irregular shaped crystals very similar in look to bath salts. These are a soft lilac colour which is very appealing.

    How to use

Place 1-2 teaspoons of Scent Crystals into the top of a burner. Used with a tealight, this should provide 3-4 hours of fragrance. If a tealight is used ideally it should be unscented and no water is to be added to the crystals.

    Fragrance

Midnight Blooms is a clean, floral based fragrance. Heavy on rose but not traditional rose (I’m not a fan of that). It smells deeper and darker and more heady than the rose we are used to. It’s a beautiful scent, and I can understand why It’s so popular in Zoflora’s cleaning products!

    In Use

I did wonder how strong this would be when used because these didn’t seem so strong from sniff alone from the tube. I popped the suggested amount into my wax warmer (an electric one). The scent was there from the beginning but slight and more of a background scent. After a good 30 minutes I felt the strength increased and the fragrance really circulated well around my kitchen.

    Strength & Longevity

Strength is medium. Honestly? I hoped and thought it would be a touch more. Would it have been stronger in a tealight warmer? No idea, but I use these warmers all the time and they do the job for wax so these shouldn’t be too different. Longevity has been fine. The packaging suggests this gives up to 4 hours of fragrance and I would agree with that. So performance wise these do the job!

    Recommended?

I think if your’re a Zoflora fan and love Midnight Blooms as a fragrance, then of course you should grab this. There’s a generous amount of crystals, so this would actual provide hours of fragrance for a very good price point. Would I buy these again? Probably not. I still get the feeling these should be a little stronger and I think I expected more from these although these were absolutely fine. But I realise I definitely am a wax melt girl and that’s what I prefer!
