  • A Different Type Of Wax Melt! Crafting In The Dark’s Levi 501’s Jelly Wax

Let’s talk wax melts. Wax melts come in different shapes, colours, sizes and designs. But on the whole they tend to be pieces of wax regardless of how they look. I was given a few months ago something that didn’t look like wax to me, but would still deliver fragrance in the same way. And this was Crafting In The Dark’s Levi 501’s Jelly Wax.

Crafting In The Dark’s Levi 501 Jelly Wax
    Why did I use this?

I forgot I had this! It was give to me by a friend and was added to my massive pile of wax melts and left my memory. But when remembered, I was in the mood for this type of scent and interested to see how a ‘jelly wax’ would perform.

    What is Jelly Wax?

Compared to traditional forms of wax, jelly wax is designed to melt slower so releases fragrance slowly into the air. Cleaning up wax melt warmers/burners is easier and quicker. Once cold, it can be peeled out ready to change wax melts if and when needed.

    How does this look?

It looks solid. A stunning shade of blue with the jelly wax looking almost molten. It reminds me of a beautiful looking wax pool that shimmers and has different shades of of the same colour giving it an almost jewel like effect. But it’s not. The texture is definitely jelly like, soft, shiny and totally smooth.

    Fragrance

Crafting I The Dark’s Levi 501’s Jelly Wax is clean, fresh, slightly marine like, hint of sweetness and cooling. This has a masculine feel to it but strangely enough still quite neutral. A very relaxing fragrance and could easily sit in the laundry family scent wise.

    In melt

I used half of the jelly wax to melt. It took more time to melt than a traditional wax melt. Rather than it creating a wax pool of sorts, it did produce a pattern which was very interesting! Almost scale like, reptilian, which I enjoyed watching. Despite it behaving differently, it threw out fragrance like a normal wax melt and made my hallway smell really good.

    Strength & Longevity

Strength for this is a medium. It wasn’t a subtle scent but not overpowering either. I had this melting for a good number of hours and the fragrance remained the same. But I did change it before the fragrance became less because I wanted a change. So longevity for how long I used this for was great.

    Clean up

The is was the satisfying bit! As soon as this completely cooled down it became a solid again and I could literally PEEL this away from my wax warmer dish! Easy, quick, quite therapeutic and fun.

    Recommended?

Crafting In The Dark’s Levi 501’s Jelly Wax is a great scented piece of wax. The fragrance itself will be loved by anyone who who likes clean fragrances. BUT the pool it created and the clean up makes me want to try out jelly wax more! For these two things alone (and of course the scent!) I would definitely recommend trying this out. It’s something different but still delivers in fragrance, so perfect for any wax melt fan!

If the idea of Crafting In The Dark’s Jelly Wax interests you, they are available on their website and come in various sizes (and fragrances) starting from 45g at £2.50 each.

  • Glow’s Pick Your Own Wax Melts From August’s Subscription Box

This year hasn’t been a year I’ve bought or melted many wax melts. Any particular reason? No not really. Sometimes I can melt constantly and sometimes I don’t turn my wax warmers on for a few weeks! Depends on my mood and how much time I have to enjoy them. But my love for wax hasn’t disappeared. An unexpected delivery I received from home fragrance, bath, body and skincare maker and vendor Glow definitely made me want to get my warmers on! Glow kindly gifted me the wax melts that featured in their Pick Your Own August Subscription Box. So what was included?

    Pick Your Own Wax Melts

5 wax melts in the following fragrances:

Sweet Strawberry Sherbet-literally an effervescent, sweet but slightly sharp fragrance mixed with strawberry. Stunning and totally WOW in scent!

Summer Spritz-this reminds me very much of one of my favourite drinks, which is pink gin. Subtle berries with a hint of citrus, which is how I drink my gin with lemonade! Summer personified!

Pink Fizz-this is a gorgeous blend of a variety of different scents. There’s something floral in this, fruity (berries), vanilla and to add depth a woody note with musk. It’s perfect! Very pretty in scent, so much so I wish this was an actual fragrance or perfume!

Frosted Strawberry Fairy-two words…strawberry Chewits! This is what this smells like to me! Strawberry, flavoured, chewy sweets! Yum!

Strawberries & Cream-creamy vanilla mixed in with strawberry. Nothing more nothing less just totally mouth watering!

    Sweet Strawberry Sherbet
    How do these look?

Each one of the wax melts are the same shape and size which is MASSIVE! Square, flat, measuring 10cm. But this is where the similarities between the wax melts end.

Sweet Strawberry Sherbet is vibrant yellow in colour with the words ‘Wax Boss’ embossed into it with what looks like a wax warmer shape around it.

Summer Spritz looks almost tie dyed in various shades of pink with butterflies, a heart shape and the words ‘Sparkle every day’ on it’s front.

Pink Fizz is a sweet shade of lilac with embossed hearts all over the top.

Frosted Strawberry Fairy, again, almost tie dye in effect in pink. 60’s in look (thanks to the style of font used) with the words ‘do what makes you happy’ with flowers around it.

Strawberries & Cream white and lilac in colour, with a jar shape on front with butterflies in it and coming out of it.

All of these are such generous sizes where they would provide hours and hours of fragrance. Not to mention themed perfectly for Summer. The look of these is so impressive, creative and stunning! Love each one and melting them has been a pleasure and a pain all at the same time!

Although this subscription box is no longer available, I can’t recommend enough ANY subscription boxes (especially wax melts ones) from Glow. I only received the wax but each subscription box, including this one, always has extras added to it which is related to the theme. These wax melts are beautifully created and fragranced. I was blown away by this selection as other’s who have ordered this will have been too!

All of Glow’s products are handmade by one super busy lady, so what’s in stock will change. So keep an eye on their home fragrance products, including their wax melts, on their website here. Be warned, their range of skincare, bath and body products is on there too. Don’t say I didn’t warn your credit card!

  • Buying A Gift On A Budget

Thanks to the cost of living, many people have had to change how they spend their money. It’s hard to cut back on certain things like gifts for family and friends especially when it comes to birthdays and Christmas. We like to treat those closest to us on special occasions. Personally, I’ve always been quite a savvy shopper anyway and pretty good at picking up products at really good prices. I recently bought a friend a gift for her birthday that didn’t break the bank, but she still received some really nice items. So what did I buy?

    Gift giving on a budget!
Next Eau Nude Bath Fizzer Cubes

I bought these online from Next earlier in the year for the sale price of £2.50. These were chosen because I liked the slightly retro idea of bath cubes instead of bath bombs. Cute packaging and from a store I knew my friend would appreciate.

Treacle Moon’s The Raspberry Kiss Body Scrub

I’ve used Treacle Moon’s body scrubs before and they are fabulous! My friend loves them too (thanks to me!) so I KNEW she would really enjoy trying a new fragrance in this product. I bought this from Tesco using my club card which meant it cost me £1.65 instead of £1.95.

Revolution Beauty’s Fruity Mini Scented Candle Trio

Who doesn’t love a good candle? I’ve never used Revolution Beauty’s candles before so honestly not too sure of the quality. But my friend loves candles and is very house proud. So worst case scenario these will be placed somewhere to look pretty if not to burn. I bought these online for £3.60 down from £12.00.

    Revolution Beauty’s Finding Reed Diffuser

While I was on Revolution Beauty’s website checking out their sale, my eye got drawn in by their reed diffusers. For any home fragrance lover, a good scented reed diffuser is a nice gift to give and perfect for my friend. The scent description and the reviews were positive and packaging wise this looked very stylish. This reed diffuser was on sale for £3.60 down from £12.00.

Revolution Beauty’s Finding Balance Reed Diffuser

I did add three other items to my friend’s gift. But this collection, even without them, I think were really good purchases with my friend and her tastes in mind. And I did this without going crazy money wise. So buying gifts for your nearest and dearest doesn’t have to cost the earth, in fact it can be very affordable if there is a little bit of thought behind it.

  • May Round Up, What Products Did I Use?

May finally was a good month for me. Why? The constant running and blocked nose thanks to hay fever slowly left the building and my senses finally returned to their normal glory. It means I’ve been able to use lots of products that I could actually SMELL and appreciate and I could finally review. So what products did I use in the month of May?

    Products used in May
Snow Fairy Bath Bomb from LUSH

This was the first I’ve ever used this bath bomb and I can understand what all the fuss has been about over the years! Snow Fairy Bath Bomb smells amazing, looks super pretty, colours the bath in a lovely shade of pink and is surprisingly very moisturising! Definitely a winner for me!

Dirty Work’s Bahama Balm-A Coconut Body Balm

Given to me by a friend, I was hoping Dirty Works Bahama Balm-A Coconut Body Balm would be a tropical hit of moisture. But I found this to be too light weight for my skin although it smelt pretty nice. Not for me, but passed to my teenage son so it doesn’t go to waste.

Selfless by Hyram’s Centella & Green Tea Gel Cleanser

A purchase I resisted for many weeks but finally caved in. Selfless by Hyram’s Centella & Green Tea Gel Cleanser is a really good, non fragranced and easy to use cleanser. It’s gentle on the skin but effective on removing dirt and sun cream. And this was brilliantly priced so much I could afford to buy a few for future use.

Yankee Candle’s Lemon Lavender Fragrance Spheres

For £1.99 this makes a Yankee Candle product a good buy. But my own personal experience made me think this wasn’t money well spent. This smelt nice but the strength just wasn’t there. I’ve heard and read people have found these to be very good, so maybe I chose the wrong fragrances. But this is a no from me and I won’t buy another one unfortunately.

Glow’s Crime Scene Investigators April Wax Subscription Box

I’ve fallen in love with all the subscription boxes I’ve received from Glow. They are brimmed with products which makes great value, imaginatively themed and fantastic quality. Crime Scene Investigators April Wax Subscription Box (which I won in a competition) was no exception! Crafted with care with a mix of unusual and fabulous scents, I loved every piece in this collection.

Smooch Vixen By So…? Eau de Parfum

I’m a great believer good fragrances don’t need to be expensive. Smooch Vixen By So…? Eau de Parfum is a beautifully scented fragrance housed in a very cute bottle. This wasn’t expensive and currently on their website for under £5.00 for 30ml. Great for all ages and as I’ve discovered the perfect fragrance to be nicked by a pre-teen!

Smooch by So…? Vixen Eau de Parfum

So that is my May round up done and dusted! Which one was my favourite? That’s a hard question to answer. But this month I enjoyed more products than not enjoying. Let’s see what June has in store, can’t wait!
