  • Is Surf’s Deep Sea Wax Melt Any Good?

As a wax melt lover, I got very excited when I found out B&M were selling wax melts from the laundry brand Surf. I love laundry scents as there’s nothing nicer, fresher and cleaner fragrance wise to use in your home. So of course when I found them I had to give them a go. Costing only £1.50 each and available in 3 different fragrances, I picked up Deep Blue. What was it like?

    Surf’s Deep Sea Wax Melts
    Packaging

These wax melts come in a rectangular and thin cardboard box. It has a look of how laundry powder/products are packaged in regards to colour and design. Looking at actual Surf Deep Sea products, the colour and images are exactly the same so ties in with the brand perfectly.

How do the wax melts look?

Deep Sea wax melts comes in a thin, all white bar. Segmented, so easy to use a square at a time, with each square having a butterfly shape on them which are slightly raised. White in colour, no glitter or pigments and quite sizeable, covering two thirds of the length of my hand.

    Fragrance

Fresh, clean, powdery with a slight marine like scent to it. A great fragrance if you want something that isn’t floral or fruit based. This is very neutral in fragrance, most people will like it and smells like a traditional laundry scent.

    In melt

I used one square of this wax melt and found it took a little time to become liquid. The fragrance took time to kick in too. A lot of laundry scented wax melts I’ve used in the past I’ve found the fragrance shoots through quickly, but this didn’t. It took awhile for this to come through but was pleasant when it finally did.

    Strength & Longevity

When the wax finally got going, the strength of this went from a light to medium to light. It took time to build and as soon as it did the scent got less to the point I turned my wax warmer off. It seemed pointless having it on! Longevity? Poor, not great. I had this melting in two different rooms and it didn’t particularly impress me.

    Recommended?

No. I’ve melted LOTS of laundry scented wax melts that were punchy and strong and long lasting, and this wasn’t. So disappointing! Especially coming from an actual laundry product brand! Such a shame as I liked the packaging, the size and look of the wax melts but because of how it performed I won’t be buying this again.

  • Winter Air Fresheners From Airpure

Air freshener aerosols haven’t always been a go to for me when it comes to home fragrancing. But what I’ve found is they handy to give a room an instant hit of fragrance and they help combat general household smells. This month I’ve been using Airpure’s Mulled Wine and Sleigh Ride. Both bought from Home Bargains for £1.25 each, but available from most discount stores and supermarkets.

    Winter Air Fresheners From Airpure
    Packaging

250ml of fragrance comes in a standard spray canister. Its a short cannister rather than a tall one, which I quite like. To dispense the fragrance its a trigger lever rather than pushing it down. Both seasonally coloured which matches the fragrances. The illustrations tell you what the notes are of the fragrances. Sleigh Ride has the main fragrance notes written on the canister which helps too.

    Airpure’s Sleigh Ride Air Freshener
    Fragrance

Sleigh Ride is a blend of vanilla, caramel and amber. So what does this smell like? A slightly musky, sweet (but not too sweet) vanilla based scent. It literally smells like vanilla fudge/caramel with a slight perfume twist to it and I love it!

Mulled Wine is what you would expect from the scent name. It’s fruity in the form of a mix of dark fruits and a slight hint of citrus with spices. This is the one I wasn’t too sure whether I would like but I actually do!

    Airpure’s Mulled Wine Air Freshener
    Strength & Longevity

Both strength and longevity is decent. When sprayed, the scent is there and there’s no denying that. If used in the kitchen, it takes the edge off cooking smells which is what you want. I find the longevity could be a touch better. But this type of fragrance can’t last forever. It just needs to be used if and when needed regularly.

    Recommended|?

I wasn’t expecting too much from Sleigh Ride and Mulled Wine. I’ve bought cheap air fresheners in the past and I’ve found them disappointing scent wise and very artificial in smell. These have such good scents them, especially Sleigh Ride. Nicely packaged, fairly priced, just wish they were a little stronger and lingered more but they still do a decent job. So if you like your fragrances on the sweeter side, these are for you! Perfect Autumn and Winter scents at good prices.

  • Glow’s December Bath & Body Subscription Box

This year hasn’t been a year of subscription boxes for me. Normally I’m a regular buyer of them but less so in 2024 (lets just say it’s been an expensive year!). But I have treated myself to bath, body and home fragrance business Glow’s November AND December Subscription Boxes. I bought November’s because it was Christmas inspired wax melts and December’s because it contained bath and body products, which I’ve been waiting for. So what did I get in December’s box of bath and body goodies?

Glow’s December Bath & Body Subscription Box
    Jolly Holly Christmas Hand Wash

A fun alternative to a liquid hand wash in the form of a foaming one. Use in the same was as the traditional version, its just a different consistency. Jolly Holly Christmas Hand Wash is a seasonally fragranced product, scented with red apple, pear rhubarb, nectarine, cinnamon, caramelised sugar and vanilla.

    Silver Sparkle Body Wash

This body wash looks and sounds special. Firstly, it literally sparkles, thanks to it shimmering with fine silver glitter/pigment. Secondly, the fragrance sounds very earthy and almost aromatherapy based which is lavender, lime, rosemary and eucalyptus. And thirdly, this product is part of Glow’s Lotions and Potions sub range, which focuses on products being chemical free and more naturally based.

    Silver Sparkle Body Wash
    Chocolate Orange Soap Sponge

Soap sponges are an easy way to wash the body. Already impregnated with soap and fragrance, these are brilliant for everyday use and gifting. The one I received was Chocolate Orange, which is the perfect scent for Winter and Christmas, with its mouth watering chocolate and zesty orange notes.

Spiced Cocoa Mint Gingerbread Sugar Scrub

Containing moisturising sweet almond oil and glycerin, this sugar scrub will make a welcome addition to my bathing routine this winter. It looks so inviting with it’s rich, creamy, almost dessert like texture, speckled with fine exfoliating pieces. The fragrance of Spiced Cocoa Mint Gingerbread intrigues me because this is quite a combination of seasonal scents, but will they work together?

Spiced Cocoa Mint Gingerbread Bubble Bar

If you want to go a step further than a bath bomb, a bubble bar is the best product to try. Moisturising, slightly foaming, fragrant, these are one of my favourite bath products ever! And that’s why I was excited to see Spiced Mint Gingerbread Bubble Bar in this subscription box. This is a decent size and could easily provide 2 baths. Perfect partner to use alongside the scrub as they are in the same fragrance.

    Cosy Blanket Room Spray

Room sprays are a form of home fragrance I’ve been using often over the last few months to provide a quick spritz of fragrance in rooms. Cosy Blanket Room Spray is a mix of vanilla, amber and citrus. So this should be a very comforting and warming fragrance.

    Cosy Blanket Room Spray
    Extras

Glow’s subscription boxes wouldn’t be a Glow subscription box without extras! The extras included in this months were a Christmas printed scarf, a brooch, a Christmas bell and individually wrapped chocolates and jelly beans.

    First impressions?

This is a great mix of products for the bath, shower, body and even the home. Fragrances are very festive, all full sized products, products look really inviting in regards to textures and colours and the value of what I’ve received is exceptional! This subscription box cost £25.00 (including p&p) for 6 full sized products, which works out just over £4.00 each. All hand made and packaged with love and care.

Subscription boxes are limited in availability and once gone are gone, but all the products I’ve mentioned ARE available on Glow’s website here. Literally a one stop shop for all your body, bath and home fragrance needs.

  • The Festive 12 Day of Christmas Part 1 Wax Melts By Home of Honey

As a wax melt lover, there is one thing I try to buy for Christmas, which is a wax melt calendar. This year I didn’t as I had already bought a wax melt subscription box containing Christmas inspired wax melts. But I did receive (gifted) a really great alternative to a wax melt calendar, which was 12 Days of Christmas from UK wax vendor Home of Honey Candle Co. So what exactly IS 12 Days of Christmas?

Home of Honey’s 12 Day of Christmas Part 1 Wax Melts
    12 Day of Christmas

12 Days of Christmas is a selection of 12 Christmas/Winter inspired wax melts. All housed in a clear plastic casing, with the scents on the label. Each wax melt is shaped as a simple Christmas tree, but all coloured differently.

    Fragrances

    The 12 fragrances included are:

    1. Gingerbread
    2. Pixies in Snow
    3. Snowglobe
    4. Choco Orange
    5. Mint Choc
    6. Cinnamon Orange & Cranberry
    7. Sparkling Fizz & Citrus
    8. Frankincense & Myrrh
    9. Snowflake Kisses
    10. Vanilla Cashmere
    11. Caramel Snowflake
    12. A Merry Morning
    Strength & Longevity

Honestly? These surprised me! Each one of these wax melts had a good strength to them with some being power houses! The size of each wax melt made me think I was going to get a sample of a scent so not particularly strong, but I was wrong! I got the full fragrance blast from them which lasted for hours and hours! The thing that upset me the most was wanting to try each melt daily, but the previous day’s melt still was strong and beautiful!

    What did I think?

This was a brilliant little collection of wax melts. I liked how they were packaged and the shape they came in. The scents were all perfect for this time of year and a good mix of different types of fragrances e.g fruity, bakery etc. Strength and longevity was beyond generous and I can honestly say I enjoyed melting each and everyone of these wax melts. Exceptional in quality and performance.

    Snowflake Kisses
    My favourites

I really enjoyed each and every one of these wax melts. There wasn’t one I didn’t like. I loved Day 3 which was Snowglobe. It was a powerhouse! Strong, fresh, slightly sweet and earthy. Gorgeous! Also, I loved Sparkling Fizz & Citrus because it was fruity and fizzy in scent just as the name suggests! Choco Orange and Mint Choc made my hallway smell literally of chocolate which my son commented on which was a winner.

Although we are less than 2 weeks away from Christmas, this collection of wax melts is still relevant and definitely should be purchased! These fragrances aren’t just for Christmas but perfect Winter scents too and are stunning to use. Only £9.50 for the set, and worth every penny! Available to purchase here but there are LOTS of other wax melt goodies and fragrances available to suit everyone!
