  • Is Primark’s £1.50 Bath Fizzer Good Value?

Would I call myself a bit of a bath bomb snob? I love baths and whatever goes into it I want it to be good in quality and look. But quality doesn’t always have to come at a cost. So what I try to do is not discount the cheaper bath bombs or fizzers out there and be open minded. And this is why I’ve bought some bath products from Primark, including their Guava Peach Bath Fizzer. £1.50 for 200g.

Primark’s PS Guava Peach Bath Fizzer
    Why did I buy this?

I find myself wandering around the beauty section in Primark more and more every time I visit my local store. The bath bombs/fizzers and bubble bars always look quite appealing, and this one caught my attention because of it’s look and size.

    How does this look?

Hexagon in shape and absolutely MASSIVE! Over 2 cms in depth and over 10 cm across. This bath fizzer is in a cute shade of purple, with the middle of it covered in what appears to be salt granules. These are in three different colours, which are purple, orange and yellow. Quite a simple design but very eye catching.

    Fragrance

I’m not going to lie, I’m quite disappointed with the lack of scent with this one. What I got was a chalky scent, that powdery smell you can get if you sniff a bath bomb. There is the smallest hint of fragrance but it’s not really obvious. Slightly fruity but honestly pretty insignificant.

    In the bath

I popped this on top of an already run, warm bath. This spun around releasing foam from the top and it’s sides, and slowly turned the clear water into a shade of blush pink. I didn’t expect it to do much in the water but what it did do I liked and enjoyed watching it.

I did notice the fragrance of this was slightly stronger in the water than before it was used, but not by much.

Sitting in the bath with this bath fizzer, I didn’t feel it added to my relaxation physically or mentally. I probably enjoyed this more watching it without me being in the bath than being in it. It didn’t add much to my bathing experience.

My skin has been temperamental recently so was concerned this bath fizzer would irritate or dry my skin out in some way. It did neither. It added nothing to the skin (fragrance, moisture) but took nothing away from it as well.

    Disappointments?

If this had a proper fragrance to this I think this bath fizzer would have been so much better. How can something look so pretty but not have the scent to match?

    Recommended?

There are different types of bath bomb/bath fizzer uses. One type will throw anything in the bath, even if it sounds and looks like a brick and they want something cheap and cheerful. The other goes for what it looks like and is happy with coloured water as the end result. And there are others who want something that gives them joy from the moment they look at it, from when it performs in the bath and provides them with a sensory experience once they slip into the bath tub. This bath fizzer isn’t for the last person. If you want something that looks nice, colours the bath, does a bit of a dance and colours water get this. Don’t want to spend £4.00 plus on a bath bomb and go cheap? This ticks the box. But if you want something special, spend more and buy a better quality bath fizzer or bath bomb from somewhere else.

  • Budget Cleansing For Dry Skin?Primark’s PS Balm To Oil Cleanser

Skincare. Am I the only person who finds skincare fascinating, exciting and interesting? Drooling over new products, eyeing up ingredients lists while approving or disapproving of the packaging. Sounds familiar? If the answer is yes, I like you already! It won’t be surprising to read I have quite a few skincare products living in drawers and storage boxes in my bathroom and bedroom. Think of me as not only a lover of skincare but a collector of it too! But this collector doesn’t want a museum or a skincare shop, I want these beauties used. So I’m slotting in products into my routine which hopefully will be effective and keep my skin looking and feeling good. My current cleanser I’m using is Primark‘s PS Balm To Oil Cleanser. 50ml for £3.00.

Primark’s PS Balm to Oil Cleanser
    Why did I buy this?

This was bought ages ago! I just didn’t get round to trying it out. Originally I bought this because I love balm cleansers. I love the texture, I adore the feel of them on the skin and I enjoy using them. But I’ve been using this, not just because I love them in general, but this type of cleanser is ideal for this time of year. It’s colder and my skin seems to need thicker, richer products to help moisturise and protect it. And a balm cleanser is probably one of thickest and richest types of cleansers you can get.

What is this supposed to do?

Suitable for all skin types, this balm is designed to clean the skin and condition the skin at the same time. It’s supposed to remove make-up and the general grime and dirt from the day.

    Packaging

Primark’s PS Balm to Oil Cleanser is marketed, in my opinion, as being a ‘natural’ product. This is reflected in how this product looks packaging wise. It comes in a small, flat, screw top pot. Colouring is mint green and white. Easy on the eye, makes you think it’s natural and is quite clean and simple in appearance. The pot comes in a small cardboard box which mirrors in look and colours of the pot the balm is in.

    Texture

Balm’s can actually come in a variety of textures. Primark’s Balm To Oil Cleanser is quite soft. If you touch it, you don’t feel as if you’re breaking the surface of it as if it’s hard and very solid. Almost Vaseline like but not as smooth.

    Fragrance

There’s the smallest hint of something in this but it’s very faint. If I’m honest I couldn’t even tell you what it is. Very non-descriptive and almost nothing is there, so great if you don’t want your cleanser to have a fragrance to it.

    Ingredients

I threw away the box, forgetting to make a note of what this balm contains like a fool! But this contains coconut water, glycerin, kakadu plum and sunflower oil seed (if my memory is correct) among other ingredients. When I first read the ingredients on the box instore, I recall thinking what it contained was actually decent.

    How to use

Massage into skin then remove with a damp cleansing cloth.

    In use

I had no idea how much of this to use so just used my own judgement.I scooped out enough to cover my fingertip and massaged it into my face for around 30 seconds. Since this is so soft texture wise, the heat from my skin and the movement of my fingers made it become an oil. But in fairness that’s what all balms I’ve used have done. I love balms so the texture was delightful, I liked how it felt on the skin and it didn’t sink in if I spent ages rubbing it around my face. So did I enjoy using this? Yes I did! And still do…I haven’t finished it yet.

Don’t try and wash this off with water it won’t work! You really do need a damp cloth to get this off. Used with warm water, it comes off. I found the first few times it would leave a film on my skin. So I would go back in with the cloth to make sure it was totally gone. I’m not a make-up wearer, so how good this is taking off a full made up face I have no idea. It’s fine taking off eyebrow pencil and sun cream. But to be on the safe side I double cleanse (using another cleanser after this one e.g a face wash) on an evening if I’ve applied sun cream that morning to make sure there’s no product remaining.

    Skin Afterwards

Skin felt clean, looked clean with no visible signs of skin drying out or losing moisture.

Who would this be good for?

I’m in no way a skin expert, I just love skincare! But number one person who would benefit from using a balm cleanser is someone with dry skin. Possibly as well a person who wears quite a lot of make-up or products that need something to really break up what’s on their skin for removal. The type of cleanser you use can be influenced by what your skin needs but also comes down to what YOU like to use and what works for you. You might have dry skin and hate feeling oil on your face so this would be no good. So it depends on a few things but the two type of people mentioned should love this texture.

Balm cleansers are something you will either love or hate. And if you love them and enjoy using them, I would suggest to try this out, especially if you are on a budget! Even better, if you want to try one out but don’t want to commit to something that costs more, this is a good starting point. It’s obviously not expensive, and it means you’re not committing to using something that costs the earth or comes in a big whacking pot! So size and price makes this a good thing to try out to see if this is good for you. And if it is, welcome to the world of balm!

  • A Budget Best Buy? Primark’s PS Strawberry Bubble Bar

I am a sucker for a pretty bath product! Something that looks good will have me reaching for my my wallet quicker than a chocolate bar entering my mouth. It can’t be helped. I’ve mentioned before one of my favourite things to throw in the bath is a bubble bar. So it’s no wonder my last trip to Primark resulted in me buying their Lemon Bubble Bar AND their Strawberry Bubble Bar. Both at the time cost £2.00.

    Primark’s PS Strawberry Bubble Bar
    Why did I buy this?

Just look at the pics on this post! Firstly, I love bubble bars because hey tend to be more moisturising, more luxurious and for me more enjoyable to use in the bath compared to a bath bomb. This one got picked up because although it’s not very intricate in look, and void of glitter or detail, it still is very cute and inviting. And THOSE are the reasons I grabbed it!

    What does it look like?

Firstly, can I just say this is a sizeable bubble bar. It’s not small! 11cm in length and at it’s widest point just over 6 cm. Depth is over 2 cm so this is a chunk of a bar and weighs 150g! And what does this look like? Lips! This bubble bar is shaped like lips in a pretty shade of pink. There’s no other detail to it, it’s all in the shape. Not chalky in look and feel as a bath bomb would be. Solid, but this could easily have been made out of some kid’s dough, plasticine type crafting material etc.

    Fragrance

This had a more cherry scent to it rather than strawberry. It was nice, fruity, not too sweet but strawberry wasn’t what sprang to mind the first time I gave this a quick sniff once I took it out of the plastic.

    How to use

Break up under warm running water and enjoy.

    In the bath

I crumbled half of this bubble bar into the bath. The bubble bar itself looks so solid and it is, but when crumbled has a softer texture to it. It created bubbles straight away while it was thrown under the warm running water. I was actually surprised how many bubbles were created and how soft, fluffy and airy they were! Underneath the surface the bath was a shade of soft pink. Overall a very inviting bath to look at.

I really wish the fragrance was stronger! It had a little more strength to it unused than it did in the water which I wished was the other way round. It was exceptionally soft and needed more presence for me to really enjoy it. That’s my personal preference. Some people like soft scents, others want their head’s blown off. I’m probably somewhere in the middle.

The bubbles stayed in tact for roughly ten minutes and it didn’t take them long to disappear, leaving the soft pink bath water behind. I sat there, read as usual, and tried to chill out. It was pleasant enough, no issues with my skin in or out. Was it the best bath I’ve ever had? No. But it wasn’t awful. I got out of the bath thinking this could have been really REALLY good. But in all honesty you would probably be paying more than £2.00 for that type of experience, surely?

Now my answer depends on what it is you want and how much you want to pay. For how much this cost this is absolutely fine. You want something that looks nice, possibly to be in a gift hamper or something to use in the bath like you would a normal bubble bath then this will do. This also proves if you are on a budget, you can have an affordable bath treat. But if you want something special, to the point your eyes explode with sheer delight and you feel like a Princess in the bath, this won’t be for you.

Would I buy this again? I’ve tried this one and the Lemon version and I’m happy with trying them and I don’t need to repurchase because I know what experience I will have. I’ve given them a go, pleasant enough, but I want and need something more special in my bath.

  • Primark’s PS Lemon Bubble Bar

Washing our bodies is a necessity. But for some of us it’s an experience! If you are the type of person who hops into the shower or bath and comes out 30 plus minutes later, you are ENJOYING your bathing ritual! I will hold my hands up and say I am indeed that person who leaves the bathroom an hour or more later with zero shame and very wrinkly skin! So you can imagine some of the products I put into my bath. Bath rocks, bath dusts, bath bombs. One of my favourites is bubble bars. Itching to try something new recently I grabbed from my stash Primark’s PS Lemon Bubble Bar. I bought this end of last year for £2.00.

    Primark’s PS Lemon Bubble Bar
    Why did I buy this?

If I’m honest I tend to be quite picky when it comes to what I put in my bath and where I buy them from. I want a good quality bath product, especially if it’s something like this. Buying them from supermarkets, discount stores etc does make me question how good it will be especially if it’s super cheap in price. But I was in the store, these jumped out at me because of the size and colouring, so no harm in trying?

    What’s a Bubble Bar?

This is more my interpretation of what a bubble bar is so it could be different for other people. A bubble bar is something that you put in the bath. Normally they provide foam/bubbles, sometimes colour and fragrance. But compared to other products, they tend to be more moisturising to the skin because of their ingredients. These will normally contain some form of butter such as cocoa or shea, giving a hydrating and luxurious bath time experience.

    What does this look like?

It’s quite simple in look. It’s a thick disc shape which is quite sizeable, 7 inches. Think of a swiss roll that’s been cut into a slice and this reminds me of that except yellow! Quite a bright yellow colour in fact, but not neon. And what you see through the centre is a lighter shade of yellow running through it giving it a swirl shaped pattern.

    Fragrance

It does have a lemon smell to it but it’s not strong. In fact, it could be much more punchier in strength in my opinion! It’s quite a fizzy, effervescent type lemon. More on the sharp side than sweet. Pleasant, but again, once out of it’s plastic wrapper I would have liked this to be stronger.

    In the bath

I didn’t use all of this. I snapped it in half and crumbled it under warm running water. I found the texture reminded me of Play Doh but crumbly. It did create a decent amount of bubbles in the bath which was great to see, although they didn’t last too long once I got into it. The fragrance was there slightly but still exceptionally soft. But I did think this would have been a good bubble bar to use fragrance wise when my sense of smell is more sensitive e.g hay fever, feeling run down etc.

When I crumbled the bubble bar into the bath, I did feel my hands were really moisturised. My body in the bath felt this slightly but not as much. The bath itself was nice enough, very pleasant. Getting out, my skin wasn’t stripped of it’s natural moisture. It didn’t look ashy or felt dry. Very normal and very comfortable. I could have got away with not using a body lotion but I never skip this stage!

    Recommended?

This isn’t the best bubble bar I’ve used and it’s not the worst. It’s a good size, looks nice and produces bubbles. And it didn’t dry or irritate the skin which is a necessity. So overall, in the words of my children, this was ‘decent’. For this to be better the fragrance needed to more prominent as it was just too subtle for me. As for the moisturisation, I didn’t expect too much because of the price and lack of butters in it’s ingredients list. But, I still think this is ok and many people would agree with me.

But would I recommend this to someone to buy? If you love your baths and don’t want to spend a small fortune give it a go. Would I buy this one again? Not this particular one no. I’ve tried it and because it didn’t blow me away, I wouldn’t repeat purchase this because I’ve used it now. But I would be happy to try a different shape, fragrance or size because it wouldn’t be the same and hopefully give me a different type of bath.

When I bought this instore at Primark, this was labelled £2.00, but on the website at time of writing this post, the price says £1.50. So this maybe reflected in store so even more bubble bar for your buck!
