  • What My Kids Bought Me For Mother’s Day

Whether Mother’s Day is an occasion you celebrate or not, it’s one day in a year that many people buy gifts for their mum’s, grandmother’s and other female relatives in the family. Is it easy to buy for these special women in our lives? Sometimes it is. But the shops online and in stores are ready to throw everything and anything at the public to purchase anything mildly floral, pink in colour or have the word ‘MUM’ emblazed on it. My kids were sweet enough to buy me gifts this year. So what did my teens buy me, not including the obligatory chocolate and sweets?

The Wizard Bath Bomb from Lush

My daughter knows I love baths and we both love the film Wicked. She went into LUSH, found something shiny and Wicked connected and bought it (her words not mine). This is quite a weighty rounded bath bomb, which is striking thanks to it’s eye catching gold colour. The bath bomb has an image of the Wizard, from the film, almost carved into it. Slightly sinister in look but incredibly fun and different. Fragrance is quite earthy, a bit plant like and unusual but very nice.

    ASDA’s Flower Market Reed Diffuser

My son sneakily took a solo trip to our local ASDA and picked this up along with the candle counterpart. The box this comes in along with the diffuser bottle both have flower images on them, which makes it look incredibly pretty. Perfect for Mother’s Day gifting. Designed to last up to 8 weeks, I can’t wait to use this in my bedroom.

    ASDA’s Flower Market Scented Candle

This is in the same fragrance as the reed diffuser and comes in a large, glass jar with a wooden lid. Same labelling. The jar is clear but pink in colour and this is a whooping size (size/weight not on label but it’s massive). Unlike the reed diffuser I can get the smell of this by simply taking the lid of and its beautiful! It’s a sweet, feminine floral mixed in with a creamy citrus and it’s sooo good! Not an old fashioned or boring floral but a modern yet classic floral all at the same time.

I think my kids did very well with these gifts! Whatever they bought me I would have appreciated. But I can tell they both put some thought into what they bought and asked the important question of ‘will my mum like this?’, especially where the home fragrance products are concerned. AND they didn’t spend a small fortune too! Well done kids!

  • 4 Autumn Inspired Home Fragrance Products Under £3.00

A new season means new home fragrance products and scents. Yay! As much as fruity, tropical scents are enjoyable when the sun is shining and the temperature is hot, Autumn fragrances have a natural homely, comforting feel to them. That’s probably one of the main reasons why I love when Autumn products are in stores, making the home the new outside in. So what have I spotted ready to give an Autumn vibe to homes?

4 Autumn inspired home fragrance products
    Asda

Cinnamon Sticks Reed Diffuser. A mix of cinnamon and cedarwood is the perfect woody and warming combination mixed into Asda’s George Cinnamon Sticks Reed Diffuser. Nicely packaged, good size, made to release fragrance for up to 8 weeks and only £3.00.

Pacific Wax Co Vanilla Shortbread Wax Melt. Although not a traditional Autumn fragrance, I think most scents bakery based work well during this cooler season. Buttery, vanillary, a great wax to pop on making a room feel very cosy. Down from £1.00 to 75p (could be store dependant).

Wickford & Co’s Large Gingerbread Candle. Gingerbread has got to be one of the most loved and used fragrances during Autumn. It’s one of those scents I love to experience in wax melt form, but people love the candle versions too. Wickford & Co’s Large Gingerbread Candle is a whopper! Burns up to 95 hours, great strength of scent, comes in a lidded and heavy jar and costs only £2.99.

Wickford & Co’s Pumpkin Chai Wax Melt. I don’t remember seeing this last year so possibly a new scent for Autumn 2024. This is an an interesting take on the typical, fleshy slightly sweet scent of pumpkin but with a mix of warming spice. 8 squares of wax should provide hours of fragrance, and costs 99p.

More and more affordable Autumn inspired home fragrance products will definitely appear over the next few weeks. But these 4 I think are a good start to kick of September.

  • B & M’s Love Coconut & Vanilla Reed Diffuser

Who doesn’t love a room to smell nice? We all do. The question is, how do we want to fragrance our personal spaces? Candles, wax melts, plug ins, there’s so many to choose from. Over the last few years reed diffusers have been a product I’ve been enjoying more and more. The latest one I’ve been using is B & M’s Love Coconut & Vanilla Reed Diffuser. This was a gift from a friend but costs £1.50 for 50ml.

    Packaging

It’s presented very simply but very chic. The reed diffuser comes in a small glass bottle with a wooden rim around the top of it. Label is basic and this reed diffuser comes boxed. It looks great and you could and would want to give this as a gift.

    What does it come with?

Included is a small bottle containing the fragranced oil, 6 reed sticks to put into the bottle so the oil soaks into them and releases fragrance. The last thing included is a wooden rim to put around the bottle.

    Fragrance

This probably smells more floral than coconut in my opinion. There’s a slight tropical scent to it but it’s not massive. Coconut & Vanilla has a feminine, floral and powdery smell to it, almost perfume like. Do I get vanilla in this? Not particularly. This doesn’t smell how I thought it would be but it’s still really, really good and a beautiful scent.

    Strength & Performance

This is what I would call a mini reed diffuser which is better suited for small rooms or spaces. I put this in my downstairs toilet one afternoon, not thinking anything about it. The next morning as we were all rushing out of the house, I went into it and smelt what I thought was a perfume. I assumed my daughter had blitz herself with one until I realised it was the reed diffuser! The fragrance is noticeable, not strong but not weak either. Just the right strength where it smells great but not heady. I thought it did so well in such a small space. Longevity? I can’t comment on yet as it’s only been used for a few days but so far I’m very pleased.

    Issues?

The wooden rim that comes with the diffusers doesn’t screw around the top, it just sits on it clumsily which I didn’t like.

    Recommended?

The fragrance name and how it actually smells isn’t the same, but it’s still gorgeous and I adore it! I didn’t expect the diffuser to do the job so well because of the size, and dare I say I wasn’t sure about the quality, but it’s good! Packaged nicely, smells great and actually smells like a fragrance you would wear not for the home. Definitely recommended! I will be going to my local store to see what else they have in this range and if possible get a bigger version of this!

  • New Zoflora Products At Home Bargains!

Is it just me or is cleaning and home fragrance products for the home an addictive purchase? No longer do people go into a shop and come out with a bottle of bleach and an antibacterial spray. They buy toilet fizzers, fragranced carpet cleaners, plug ins and antibacterial wipes that smell more like body sprays! Am I a sucker for these types of things? Occasionally. I got sucked into purchasing some new Zoflora products from Home Bargains. These came in the form of Zoflora’s Linen Fresh Reed Diffuser and scented sachets in Linen Fresh, Rhubarb & Cassis and Midnight Blooms. The reed diffuser was £2.99 and the sachets 99p for a pack of 2.

    Why did I buy these?

Zoflora has always been a brand I’ve loved. Their cleaning products in my experience have been effective and incredibly fragrant. So when I saw the reed diffuser and scented sachets I had to try them! The scents sounded nice, I loved the two different ways of delivering fragrance and they were both affordable.

    Zoflora’s Linen Fresh Reed Diffuser

This is like any typical reed diffuser where you place the reeds it comes with into the bottle of fragranced oil. The reeds will soak up the oil and release fragrance. The difference with Zoflora’s reed diffuser is it’s not only designed to create fragrance but eliminate odours too. Not all reed diffusers claim to do this whether they do or not. So this makes me think this will be a punchy scented fragrance product.

Zoflora’s Fresh Linen, Rhubarb & Cassis and Midnight Blooms Scented Sachets

There are three different fragranced sachets, and like the reed diffuser, help to get rid of odours not just mask them. Each packet contains two sachets which are stringed so can be hung.

    Zoflora Scented Sachets
    The Scents

Linen Fresh– A typical, clean, fresh, slightly powdery scent giving that ‘I’ve just washed laundry’ vibe.

Rhubarb & Cassis – Fruity. Definitely has that typical rhubarb scent to it with the smallest hint of musk.

Midnight Blooms – This is a rose floral. But this is quite deep, dark, and anything but old fashioned rose. There’s a little woodiness to this which makes it smell quite sophisticated. Midnight Blooms smells like it could be a perfume it’s that good (I believe it’s a dupe).

    What do I think?

The fragrances are very different to each other which I love. I’ve seen two of these in other cleaning products which is good if you want to carry on the fragrance theme. Importantly, all three smell sooooo nice and I’m struggling to pick out a favourite.

Having scented sachets is a great try me for a scent. They are also great to put in awkward places or areas and an alternative to other products such as air fresheners, candles etc. And they are CHEAP! The reed diffuser is priced well too but better for rooms rather than spaces.

    Recommended?

If you’re a Zoflora lover then these are a must surely? Or if you just like these types of scents and products. I haven’t used the reed diffuser yet but the sachets are dotted around places in my home and my car, and so far so good.
