  • Superdrug’s Black Castor & Shea Leave In Conditioning Cream

Despite the fact I’m in my 4th decade of life, it’s only recently I’ve begun to learn about my hair. Growing up, I had no one to teach me about how to look after Afro Caribbean hair. But I guess its better late then never! One product I now use regular is a leave in conditioner. Over the last few weeks I’ve been using Superdrug’s Black Castor & Shea Leave In Conditioning Cream to keep my hair in check. So what is it like?

Superdrug’s Castor & Shea Leave In Conditioning Cream
    Why did I buy this?

My usual leave in conditioner ran out. Normally I would buy it when it’s on special offer, which it wasn’t at the time I needed to repurchase it. So I was looking for an alternative to do the same job but at a more affordable price. I was already in a Superdrug store and thought this product could be ideal for my hair type and my wallet.

What is this supposed to do?

This product is designed to control frizz, add shine and make hair more manageable. Ideal for hair types which are tight textured, curly and coily.

    How to use

Can be used on damp or dry hair. Use from roots to end of hair.

    Consistency & Texture

This reminds me of a body lotion consistency wise. It’s smooth, liquid but has a little hold to it and I could feel a slight waxiness to it while in use.

    Fragrance

It’s not a strong scented product, but it’s nice. Floral, quite sweet, which reminds me of a delicate vanilla, but not too heady. Absolutely gorgeous and way too easy to sniff regularly.

    In use

I’ve used this on damp hair straight after it has been washed and conditioned, and also when hair has been sprayed with water, so its not dry. On both occasions I sectioned my hair to create individual twists. I’ve used this on both my hair and my daughter’s.

I’m naturally very generous with whatever leave in conditioner I use. My hair will soak it up, and because I use it once a week I don’t want to skimp. So, after combing through my damp hair, I applied this all over from roots to the ends of my hair. Very easy to apply. The conditioner stayed where it needed to go because of its consistency.

My hair wasn’t greasy or sticky but moist, with that slight waxy feel I mentioned early. My hair looked hydrated, twists defined and overall neat. I also couldn’t help but feel and see my hair being a little more bouncier than usual, which was a pleasant surprise! Did I see any shine? Not particularly noticeable on my hair, so no.

Daughter’s hair after a wash and roughly twisted after using the conditioning cream the day before
    Negatives?

250ml of product isn’t enough for me! I use this or something similar on both myself and my daughter’s hair so the bigger the tub the better the value and longer it lasts.

    Recommended?

I really like this product! I’m glad I gave this a go as I tend to head towards specific hair care products for Afro Caribbean hair. How it behaves on other hair types I can’t comment on, but on my own hair it did exactly what it needed to do and wasn’t too expensive which is always a plus point!

Unfortunately this doesn’t seem to be available anymore, but there are other products from this range including oils, shampoos, conditioners and curl defining products starting from £4.49.

  • Superdrug’s Naturally Radiant 2 in 1 Moisturiser & Serum

When you love skincare but don’t have a massive budget, you need to look at different brands with lower price points. Many stores have their own ranges, which most of the time are very affordable and can be just as good as bigger brands. One store that has their own range of skincare products is Superdrug, including their Naturally Radiant 2 in 1 Moisturiser & Serum. But is it any good?

    Superdrug’s Naturally Radiant 2in1 Moisturiser & Serum
    Why did I buy this?

This product, along with others from this range, regularly are on special promotions e.g half price, buy one get one free. When they’re half price and the products sound interesting, it makes buying them very appealing, so I bought this! It sounded good, easy to slot into my skincare routine and affordable. BOUGHT!

What is this supposed to do?

Naturally Radiant 2 in 1 Moisturiser & Serum is supposed to give the skin a natural radiance and even out skin tone. It also provides hydration in a light weight formulation the skin will love.

    Packaging

50ml of Naturally Radiant 2 in 1 Moisturiser & Serum comes in a pump action bottle. Like the rest of the range, because of its colouring (green) and simplistic labelling, the appearance fits in well within the ‘natural’ skincare type niche.

    Consistency & Texture

This reminds me of moisturising gels. This product is white but has a slight sheerness to it. Its very light in texture, and looks like a cross between a face cream and a gel.

    Fragrance

The fragrance of this is identical to the other products I’ve tried in this range. Its quite fresh and clean in scent. There is a subtle flowery and sweetness to it which makes it very pleasant.

    How to use

2 to 3 pumps of product applied to cleansed face and neck, using circular motions every morning.

    On the skin

When applied onto my skin, I didn’t need much. It was easy and quick to apply and sank in immediately. This is one of those products that feels very light on the skin, almost as if nothing has been applied to it, but obviously there had been. My skin looked matt, but not dry, and felt slightly hydrated.

I can’t say whether this helped to even out my skin tone. At the time of using Naturally Radiant 2 in 1 Moisturiser & Serum, my skin was very even in colouring and texture. But as a product, I enjoyed using it, slotted into my routine well, gave my skin a nice feel but I didn’t suffer massive skin issues for me to see big changes.

    Recommended?

This is a good product for a few different people, in my opinion:

    1. Younger people ( teens to 30 ) who don’t have particular concerns with their skin and want a good quality product that’s easy and quick to apply.
    2. Men. They want to use skincare but need something that sinks in quickly and no messing about with numerous products.
    3. Budget. You’re on a budget and you don’t want to buy a face cream and a serum and overall don’t want to spend lots of money.
    4. Multi purpose needed and time starved. Pretty much as above but you’re one of those people who has literally 5 mins in the morning to get dressed and out of the door AND sort your face out.
    5. Summer. Lighter textures are great when the season is warmer and heavier textured products don’t sit as comfortably on skin as they do during cooler/colder times.
    Would I buy this again?

Not sure. For what it is, its a decent moisturiser. And at certain times this would be very handy as mentioned in warmer weather. But I prefer to apply a separate serum and facial cream so I can tailor it to what my skin needs. I don’t think my skin would massively benefit from using this, or massively miss out.

If this sound like an ideal skin care product for you, visit Superdrug online or instore . *At time of writing this post, this product is £8.99 and on buy one get one free promotion which can be mixed and match through the Naturally Radiant range.

  • Superdrug’s Turmeric Revitalising Clay Mask

One of the most affordable and easy to use skincare products on the market in my opinion is a skincare face mask. You can spend as little or as much as you like, they come in various forms and textures and they delivery a short term form of pampering to the skin. Sometimes all you want for your skin is a temporary boost, and that’s why I delved into my skincare stash and pulled out Superdrug’s Turmeric Revitalising Clay Mask. This was given to me from a friend.

    Superdrug’s Turmeric Revitalising Clay Mask
What does this mask supposed to do?

Draws out impurities and extra oil from the skin, and makes it feel and appear smoother.

    Appearance & Texture

It has a slight orangey tint to it which isn’t very appealing. I didn’t expect the colour to be beautiful but I think the combo of turmeric, clay and shea butter doesn’t produce a visually appealing mask. Texture is smooth and quite thick, and what you would expect from a mask containing clay.

    Fragrance

Definitely has a turmeric scent to it but not too strong. I felt there was a slight citrus element to it which gave it a zing and slight freshness.

    How to use

Apply to clean skin avoiding the eye area and leave on till dry for 10-25mins, then rinse off with warm water.

    On the skin

I followed the instructions on the packaging. It didn’t take too long for my facial expressions to become frozen as it did dry out quickly. Not in an uncomfortable way but in a clay skincare mask kind of way.

    Removal

I used a damp, warm muslin cloth to get this off and it did the trick. I followed it with warm water to make sure all residue was gone and it had.

    Skin afterwards

My skin felt and looked a little smoother, a little more rested and I felt it was fresher. I checked my skin the following day and felt I could see the same results which made me feel very happy!

    Top Tip

I got three uses out of one sachet! A third was plenty for one application and I could see the benefits so I didn’t use it all at once. You also may find you don’t even need that as you may want to apply this to only certain areas of the face e.g nose, forehead etc.

    Recommended?

This is a great, affordable mask. Don’t be put off by the colour and the scent isn’t overwhelming. It left my skin in better condition than what it was prior to using it so an absolute winner! This usually retails for 99p (at the time of writing this post) and regularly on a multibuy promotion so not expensive at all!

  • Superdrug’s Naturally Radiant Brightening Micro Polish

Skincare for some people is a necessary evil. It’s something we use everyday to keep our skin clean and healthy. For others skincare is passion, a love, a piece of enjoyment. And I have to say I fall into that particular camp. I like the process of using good skincare products and I love even more having good skin. One product that is in my weekly skincare routine is Naturally Radiant Brightening Micro Polish by Superdrug. When I purchased this it was half price and cost £2.99.

Superdrug’s Naturally Radiant Brightening Micro Polish
    Why did I buy this?

I’ve used products from this range before. They’ve provided good results on my skin and I’ve enjoyed using them. Affordable and easy to get hold of, this range is a no brainer for me and I’m always open to using products from the line. I needed a facial exfoliator in my skincare routine, this was half price, and I was happy to try this out.

    What does this do?

Naturally Radiant Brightening Micro Polish is designed to leave skin clearer, smoother and even out skin tone thanks to its exfoliating action.

    Packaging

75g of product comes in a very soft mint green coloured tubed. It’s not fancy, but what this and the whole Naturally Radiant range of products look like are items that are geared towards being natural and good for the skin.

    Consistency & Texture

This comes out like a clear thick gel that you would expect from a face wash, but possibly a little thicker and not as loose and runny. When I looked closely I could see tiny grains within this product which are blueberry seeds.

    Fragrance

Like other products in the range this is has a clean, fresh, a slightly sweet and subtle fruity plant based smell. It’s quite delicate and not overpowering. In a strange but good way, this is quite a neutral scent and should appeal to both women and men.

    How to Use

Use once or twice a week. Massage over wet or dry skin using circular movements. Add a small amount of water to create a foam then rinse off.

    In Use

I didn’t need to use much of this. A finger tip of this Micro Polish was enough to work over my slightly damp face and neck area. I could feel the grains which seemed so small but with movement you could feel their sweeping and resurfacing action. Adding a little water meant that this scrub lightly foamed and gave an almost 2in1 product alternating between a scrub and a face wash which I really enjoyed and felt great on the skin.

My face felt and looked soft, clean, fresh and looked matt. I felt the scrub was very gentle on the skin but still very effective. This was the perfect way to get my skin ready for any additional treatments I wanted to follow on with.

    Recommended?

Y-e-s. This is an affordable facial scrub that works! Easy and enjoyable to use, a great product for any age to slot into a skincare routine. I can see this being a good product to purchase because of its size, ingredients and cost. Love!

**At the time of writing this post ( 29.01.2020 ) this product hasn’t been available on the website and possibly has been discontinued. Definitely worth checking for this in a physical store to see if it’s still available. The range currently is half price.**
