  • Under £4.00 MUA’s Amplify Statement Lash Mascara

As someone who doesn’t wear make-up (except an eyebrow pencil), I have no idea what to look for or to buy when it comes to this type of product. These take me out of my comfort zone and looking at the various products in stores freaks me out! But I did pick up MUA’s Amplify Statement Lash Mascara from Superdrug a few months ago. Individually it cost £3.50 but it was part of a 3 for 2 promotion.

    MUA’s Amplify Statement Lash Mascara
    Why did I buy it?

I visited Superdrug to buy something for my daughter. She needed a lipstick for a play at school so I thought I would take advantage of the promotion. I grabbed this, for myself, thinking it might make my eyes look more awake with fuller looking lashes. I’ve been looking pretty tired recently so I thought lets give it a go! It wasn’t expensive and should be easy to apply even for a non make-up wearer like me.

    What does this do?

MUA’s Amplify Statement Lash Mascara is supposed to, like most mascaras, make lashes look more fuller with more volume, length and add more depth colour wise to them.

    Packaging

This mascara comes in an all black plastic packaging. Slightly curved edges which makes it look more interesting rather than having straight sides. Visually it looks simple but does grab your eye (no pun intended).

    Application

I expected the brush to be softer but it’s actually quite hard. But pulling it through my eye lashes wasn’t rough and glided through easily. I didn’t have to keep repeating the brushing through movement as I could see straight away my lashes looked fuller within two strokes. Their natural almost black colour was deeper and both top and bottom lashes looked more obvious but in a natural way. I was scared they would look fake and over the top but they didn’t. And this is what I wanted.

There wasn’t any clumping of product on my lashes. I did think I could feel the mascara on them, as if somehow they were a little heavier. Is this normal? It wasn’t an issue but I could definitely feel the difference after applying it.

    Removal

Since I don’t really wear make-up I had no cleanser specifically for removing make-up so I just washed my face as normal. I concentrated more on the eye area but it was all removed so I had a nice, clean set of naked lashes once again.

    Recommended?

I’m no make-up expert, but this product did what it was supposed to do. It made my lashes look fuller, slightly darker but not in a fake way. No irritation around the eyes, easy application and easy removal and all for £3.50! So for a basic mascara I would recommend this if you don’t want a dramatic look for your lashes. I’m sure there’s products out there that will do that. With this range being regularly on special offer at Superdrug it makes the price of £3.50 even cheaper!

  • Superdrug’s Layering Lab Sweetie Body Mist

I’ve been using the usual body mists from my collection every morning, but desperately wanted a change. I needed a different kind of fragrance hit. I totally forgot I bought Superdrug’s Layering Labs Sweetie Body Mist last year when it was on a special price promotion. So of course it needed to come out, especially since I’ve never used Layering Lab body mists before. What is it like?

Superdrug’s Layering Lab Sweetie Body Mist
    Packaging

Layering Lab Sweetie Body Mist comes in a plastic, clear, spray bottle. I like the fact it’s not totally rectangular in shape as the edges are curved, making it a little different in look. Simple label but reasonably appealing so would suit various age groups.

    Fragrance

This is a great mix of creamy and comforting vanilla, floral but not old fashioned rose with juicy, fruity notes thrown in too (scent description says pear). I love how this smells because it’s gorgeous and doesn’t seem to be aimed at a particular group or age of people who would use this because of how it smells. I’m not a massive rose fan but this gives it extra depth and a perfume quality of fragrance rather than body mist.

    Strength & Longevity

When I first apply this, the scent is very obvious and quite punchy. It’s very uplifting and strength wise I would say is a medium. Personally, I would like the strength to be maintained a little longer because it is such a beautiful fragrance, along with it’s longevity as well. To be fair, I still can smell this a few hours after the first application but it’s much fainter. Since it’s has the rose base (I find rose being one of the most strongest and lingering floral fragrances), I would’ve liked this to perform a touch better. But it still did a decent job.

Despite wishing more from this on the performance front, this is still a great fragrance. The smell is stunning for a body mist and I enjoy wearing this which is the most important thing. I can see why this would appeal to a younger market but equally to an older one too. So I would still recommend this. At the end of the day it’s a body mist and expectations can’t be the same compared to a fine fragrance. And for the price, and the fact this is regularly on a price promotion, definitely one to buy!

Superdrug’s Layering Lab Sweetie Body Mist normally costs £3.99 for 100ml. At the time of writing this post this is on a buy one get one half price promotion.

  • Moisturising Superdrug’s Vitamin E All Over Body Cream with Lavender

There’s lots of things I could do improve my body care routine. But there is one thing I do without fail, MOISTURISE! After having a shower or a bath I will always use a body lotion, cream or body butter to finish off my body care routine. I’ve started to use a new one that I dug out of my little stash (totally forgot I had it!) from Superdrug. It’s their very own branded Vitamin E All Over Body Cream with Lavender. Normally priced at £4.99 for 300ml but I’m sure I bought it for less.

Superdrug’s Vitamin E All Over Body Cream with Lavender
    Why did I use this?

The idea of using this really appealed to me when I rediscovered this purchase. I’ve kept my body care products and routine very simple and dare I say boring, because my skin has been irritated with the warm weather. And I just wanted to use something different and hopefully nice and moisturising! So why not?

    What is this?

This is a body cream which is designed to moisturise the skin thanks to containing Shea butter and Vitamin E. With Vitamin E being an antioxidant, this could possibly help protect the skin from environmental damage. With the addition of lavender essential oil, it aims to provide a more restful sleep. This is why on the packaging it says this is a night body cream rather than just ‘body cream’. Suitable for normal to dry skin.

    Packaging

This body cream comes in a plastic tub. It’s not the most exciting or modern looking packaging ever to grace a shelf but it’s not unpleasant. It has a ‘natural’, wholesome vibe to it, with splashes of purple reminding the user there is lavender in this. As a gift it would still be welcomed, but it does look a little on the traditional side appearance wise.

    Fragrance

Lavender is a very odd fragrance. It can be strong; it can be old fashioned in scent, and it can be very heady and overwhelming. This isn’t. You get the herbal aspect of lavender but there’s a sweetness to this. It maybe the fact there is Shea butter included in this body cream. But this fragrance hosts the best of lavender and doesn’t include the worst aspects of it. It’s not overpowering, it’s beautifully balanced but like it’s packaging I wouldn’t say this is modern in scent.

    Texture

It looks thick in the tub as there isn’t a wobbly to the product. But when scooped out it’s not a butter, not fluid like a lotion but very much is a cream. A silky cream with a slight slip to it, so it feels luxurious but not heavy.

    On the skin

I’ve found I don’t need to use too much of this. It spreads beautifully on the skin and rubs in like a dream. It’s moisturising without being greasy and sticky, and it leaves my skin feeling soft and supple. Using this once or twice a day is more than enough. But dry skin isn’t an issue I suffer with regularly on my body anyway as my skin is in decent condition.

I don’t think this body cream is irritating my skin or making it uncomfortable. But what I would say is essential oils and fragrance isn’t always best friends to sensitive skin so be warned!

The fragrance left on the skin is quite subtle. I never feel like I’ve been rolling around in a herb garden after applying this. But it does give me a sense of relaxation while using and applying this which makes it ideal for nigh time use.

    Recommended?

This is the perfect body product for those who want moisturising without a thick and greasy film left on the skin. Apply it after bathing, clothes can be put on straight away which makes this an easy and quick product to use. And I will be honest, I love how this smells! There’s something very comforting and soothing about this body cream so 110% recommended! Affordable, size wise is a good amount and great on the skin. I forgot to mention, this range is regularly on offer, so this is a brilliant body product to buy on a budget! Currently on a buy one get one half price deal here, perfect for (whispers) CHRISTMAS.
