  • Skincare Serums Under £3.00 In Aldi!

I’m going to sound like a broken record, but skincare really doesn’t have to be expensive. It can be as expensive as you want it to be but also as cheap as you want it to be. We don’t all have a generous budget for this area of our lives, and some people, even if they did, some don’t WANT to spend a lot on skincare products. All opinions and situations are valid. Finding decent quality products that fit a lower budget is more than likely going to come from a discount store or a supermarket. Aldi currently have in stock 3 facial skincare serums from their own brand Lacura. So, what do they have, what do they do and how much do they cost?

    Aldi skincare serums
    What’s available

3 different skincare facial serums for different skin concerns. There’s Vitamin C, Collagen & Gold and Hyaluronic Acid.

    Price & size

Each serum is 50ml and costs £2.75 each. This is a decent size and a good price because some serums on the market can be 30ml in size.

What are these supposed to do?
    Hyaluronic Acid

This serum helps to add hydration to the skin while keeping the moisture in the skin. Hyaluronic Acid can hydrate, make the skin look and feel smoother and generally give the skin a healthier appearance.

    Hyaluronic Acid Serum
    Vitamin C

Vitamin C brightens skin, can even out skin tone and provide protection against pollution, free radicals and can help with the appearance of hyperpigmentation.

    Vitamin C Serum
    Collagen & Gold

This serum can help improve the tightness of the skin, it’s smoothness and firmness and provides hydration.

    Collagen & Gold Serum
    Packaging of these serums

All packaged in nicely one block coloured boxes, which seems to be quite a trend in the skincare industry. There’s nothing I can say negative about it. It’s practical, simple but nicely presented.

    Thoughts?

It’s always nice to see affordable skincare products, especially products designed to target certain issues or skincare types. Everyone’s skin is different and sometimes one product for one person isn’t going to be right for another. Seeing variety and specific products is good.

I would have liked to see percentages on these products of their active ingredients. How much Vitamin C is in the serum? Hyaluronic Acid? Not having this information makes me think that the percentages are low, so won’t actually do anything. But what if they were too high for someone and it could cause irritation? There’s a reason brands have this information on products and its to give the consumer the information their skin needs to make the best choice for them. So is this why the serums are so low in price? Price point wise is affordable…but for what reason?

Check these serums for yourself in your local Aldi store now.

  • New Phlur Perfume Dupes In Home Bargains!

Will duping products EVER end? I don’t think so! If there’s products on the market that are popular or/and on trend, and similar products can be created and priced less, it will happen! I can see the frustration for the big brands. They spend a lot of time and money designing and creating products, packaging, names and marketing. Then supermarket’s, stores and other businesses come along, using these products as ‘ideas’ and then bring out their own versions. Personally, I don’t mind it, IF they bring out good quality products. Why? Because I don’t, sometimes can’t, afford to spend £30.00 on a shower gel or £70.00 on a fragrance.

So what’s the latest duped product I’ve found? Fragrances. Fragrances that look very similar to fragrance brand Phlur. And I found these fragrances in Home Bargains.

Phlur fragrance dupes in Home Bargains!
    Florea eau de parfum

I’ve stumbled across fragrances from Florea (never heard of them!). The fragrance is in an eau de parfum formulation and available in 3 different scents. It comes in Vanilla Touch, Velvet Smoke and Lychee Dream. All 50ml in size.

    Vanilla Touch eau de parfum
    Packaging

These fragrances come in a small, chunky, clear bottle with an equally chunky white lid. Very basic and plain in look. The actual fragrance for each is a different colour, which makes the black font on the bottle pop. But other than that there is zero detailing to these. Strangely enough I find these quite appealing because they do look so plain and understated.

    Lychee Dream eau de parfum
How are they a dupe of Phlur?

Packaging is incredibly similar. The shape of the bottles, each fragrance being coloured, the white lid, the basic font, positioning of brand and fragrance name, like sisters!

Fragrance wise, Phlur has a fragrance called Vanilla Skin, Florea has Vanilla Touch. But other than that there is no similarity name wise and no obvious similar fragrances.

Prices? No comparison! Phlur eau de parfum’s cost £100.00 for 50ml.. Florea? £2.99!

    Velvet Smoke eau de parfum
    Thoughts?

These are very cute looking fragrances. I like how they look and instantly they made me think of Phlur, which is obviously what the aim was. It would have been nice to see more fragrances available to give variety. The ones that were for sale were ok but not massively imaginative. I smelt the lid of Vanilla Touch and it didn’t blow me away, I wanted full on vanilla and this wasn’t. Lychee Dream smelt really nice though. But would these smell better actually sprayed rather than sniffed? Probably. But if you’re paying £2.99 for an eau de parfum formula, my first thought is you will get what you pay for. Cute in look, quality questionable.

  • Cosy Winters Night Whipped Soap By Lotions & Potions

What products do you use in the bath or shower to wash your body? The market is FULL of various gels, creams, mousses and soaps, that we’re spoilt for choice. Personally, what I use depends on my mood. If I’m in a ‘I want to treat myself’ mindset, I will go with something a little luxurious. If I’m tired and have lost the will to live, something ordinary and simple. One product I’ve used on and off over the years in both the shower and the bath is whipped soaps. The last one I purchased was in Lotions & Potions December Pamper Box, caled Cosy Winters Night Whipped Soap. So, what is it like?

Cosy Winters Night Whipped Soap By Lotions & Potions
    Packaging

120g of whipped soap is housed in a clear, plastic, lidded pot. The fact it’s clear lets you have a sneak peak of what the whipped soap looks like. The lid, I love, as it’s embossed with the Lotions & Potions logo. Also included is a mention that these products from this business are chemical free. The packaging is practical, simple, not flashy and has a ‘natural’ feel to it.

    Look & consistency

Cosy Winters Night Whipped Soap comes in a beautiful and bright spring like yellow colour. Very vibrant and eye catching. The whipped soap you can see has literally been piped into it’s packaging because of the shape its in. It looks thick, solid, holds its shape and dusted with glittery pigments and silver and gold tiny star shapes. Very pretty!

    Fragrance

Cosy Winter Night Whipped Soap is a difficult scent to describe. Its fresh and clean, which is great for everyone and anyone. Very comforting in scent, has a sweet amber like hint to it. It’s beautiful and definitely screams winter to me.

    On the body

I use a fingertip amount of this whipped soap on each body part. Despite the fact that this comes out quite hard and solid, rubbed into the skin it softens and almost melts away. On a sponge, this lathers up beautifully but doesn’t create bubbles. What it does is leave a creamy, soft covering over the skin, it then does what a traditional soap does on the skin, slightly foam and then clean. Does it clean the skin well? Oh yes! Very enjoyable and easy to use. The scent made this product even more decadent and pleasurable and left my skin feeling soft, smooth and clean.

Lotions & Potions December Pamper Box
    Recommended?

Gorgeous fragrance, texture to die for, cleans the skin well and does it in a way that its an experience rather than a simple wash of the body. Yes! Recommended! If, like me, you love your richer, thicker textures when it comes to the products you use, you will LOVE this!

Cosy Winters Night Whipped Soap was part of special, seasonal box, so no longer available. But other scented whipped soaps are available here. All 120g and £5.50 each. Enjoy!

  • Women’s Fragrances Available In Primark

My local Primark, which is in the city centre of my town, can get busy and messy quickly! I love having a look around their beauty department, but sometimes it’s hard fighting your way through bodies and shelves that look like they’ve been ransacked. I’ve always found visiting early morning is the best and tidiest time. So I had a chance early morning last week to have a look at some of their women’s fragrances, because I haven’t looked at them for ages. So what did I find?

    Women’s Fragrances In Primark
    Neroli Breeze

This consists of mandarin, neroli and musk. From this combination I would expect something with a freshness but depth, and could be liked by both men and women. Nicely shaped blue bottle, very square and angular in look, and housed in an identical sea blue coloured box.

    Neroli Breeze Eau de Parfum
    Orchid Whispers

Bergamot, violet and patchouli are the notes in Orchid Whisper. I can imagine this is a floral scent but quite a heavy, deep one, possibly ideal for night time use. The bottle this comes in looked a little cheap to me with its large gold door knob like top with a square purple bottle. Comes in a simple purple coloured box.

    Orchid Whispers Eau de Parfum
    Forever

Now this looks fun! Shaped as a heart, this fragrance is made up of notes of jasmine, tuberose and tonka bean. Could this be a feminine, heady, seductive fragrance? Possibly with these notes in it!

    Forever Eau de Parfum
    Golden Girl

Containing notes of jasmine, rose, vanilla and musk, this comes across as a very feminine girly girl type fragrance. Very pretty, perfect for spring and summer and for everyday use. Packaging is simple, with a cut out on the front to see the bottle inside. I really like how this is presented. It suits the description of the fragrance perfectly.

    Golden Girl Eau de Parfum
    Capri Girl

Packaged in the same way as Golden Girl, but using different colour combinations (mainly soft blue). This fragrance contains notes of lemon, jasmine, amber and vanilla. Again, another feminine, pretty sounding fragrance, but this feels like it will be fresher and quite light and subtle.

    Capri Girl Eau de Parfum
    Formulation, size & price

Each fragrance mentioned is of an eau de parfum formulation, which means it has a certain percentage of fragrance oils in it e.g stronger than an eau de toilette. Each is 30ml in size (except Forever which is 50ml) and all cost £6.00 each.

    Thoughts?

These represent a good mix of fragrances but perfect for the up and coming seasons. There were more available but I didn’t get the chance to look at them all, as a comic book shop and two teens were calling for my attention! But most were nicely packaged, ok sizes (anything under 50ml for me turns into travel size) and decent prices. I did manage to smell one and it smelt really really good. But my thought is, how good are they when it comes to longevity and strength? Maybe I need to find out…
