  • Aveeno’s Calm+Restore Nourishing Oat Cleanser

It’s slowly sinking in that skincare purchases are no longer just for me anymore, they’re also for my children. Before I would buy things for myself out of need, curiosity or blatant greed. But now I have to think about what THEY need and what would be good for them. Why? I have one pre-teen on my hands and another following quickly and their skin is changing constantly. I purchased Aveeno’s Calm+Restore Nourishing Oat Cleanser a few months ago from Boots with my daughter in mind. There was a third off the price at the time so I paid less than £6.00 for 200ml.

    Aveeno’s Calm+Restore Nourishing Oat Cleanser
    Why did I buy this?

Aveeno Moisturising Lotion is a product we’ve been using in our household for years now. It’s one of those products myself and my daughter use from top to toe and I trust it! My daughter suffered from eczema and when it became more manageable and the need for thick and greasy products weren’t needed, I swapped to this. It works for her and for my skin too as a general moisturiser. Imagine my delight when I saw Aveeno’s skincare products had been released in the UK! I thought this would be the perfect cleanser for my daughter, and good for me to dip in and out of when needed.

What is this supposed to do?

This is a cleanser. It’s designed to clean the skin by removing dirt, grime, oil etc. But what makes this more special is it’s supposed to be ideal for sensitive skin, and those that fit into the normal to dry skin type bracket. So it’s gentle, non stripping and helps to maintain the skin’s moisture barrier. Also fragrance free (fragrance can be irritating for those who have sensitive skin), non foaming (dependant on what’s in a product that makes it foam, that can be drying to the skin). And contains oats which nourishes the skin.

    Packaging.

200ml of cleanser is stored in a very practical and simple tall and thin plastic bottle. Pump action and clear, so perfect to keep an eye on this when it starts running low. It’s design and labelling is quite basic but ties in perfectly with the other Aveeno products in the range, yet stands out as being skincare rather than body care.

    How to use.

Apply 1 to 2 pumps of cleanser to wet skin. Massage into skin using circular movements and rinse off with warm water. Pat dry. Use morning and evening.

    Texture & Fragrance.

The texture and consistency of this cleanser is unusual. It’s quite lightweight and is close to being similar to a gel cleanser but is a touch too creamy in feel to be a true one. Colour wise it’s cream coloured. It’s not the most appealing to look at because of the colour and consistency in my opinion.

Fragrance wise as you can imagine if it’s fragrance free there isn’t one! What I always find though is products that are fragrance free have a slight smell to them which I can’t describe. And I get it with this. So yes no fragrance but even my daughter mentioned she didn’t like the smell of this. So smells of nothing but something at the same time.

    In use.

I’ve used this cleanser myself and this is what my daughter uses twice a day. The cleanser was used as directed and when I first used this I wasn’t keen on the texture because it’s so different. I found one pump wasn’t enough to clean my face so went for 2. Pretty much clear in look on the skin, easy to use. No greasiness, not oily or anything like it. And of course no foam as it’s non foaming. Washing off was quick to do, and followed up by patting my skin with a face cloth. Would this remove make-up? Not sure as I’m not a make-up user. So possibly light make-up but something more heavier I suspect this wouldn’t be the best.

    After use.

My skin looked and felt clean. Compared to another cleanser I have on rotation this seemed to be more gentle. My skin didn’t feel tight or dry, it felt very comfortable and normal and ready for the next stage. Looking at my daughter’s skin I can only assume she’s had the same results as it looks good with no obvious issues.

    Would I buy this again?

Neither mine or my daughter’s skin I would say is dry. In fact I would call our skin type normal. And thankfully sensitivity isn’t something I would say we suffer from facially. But because my daughter has been an eczema sufferer I am super careful and worried about her skin so I treat it as if it was sensitive, if that makes sense? So for her I would definitely repurchase this because it does what it needs to do for her. For myself? I don’t particularly enjoy using this product. I don’t think I need this type of cleanser on a daily basis BUT there will be times this would be useful e.g weather changes, hormonal, illness etc. So for now I’m happy using this through my daughter if and when needed but won’t be purchasing it solely for myself.

    Recommended?

This is a handy product to have in the bathroom. Our skin doesn’t behave exactly the same way every minute of everyday and there could be random times of dryness and sensitivity that pops up for anyone. Or, it could be something that is a regular issue. This cleanser I would give the thumbs up in regards to purchasing if you fall into the skin type categories already mentioned. I would even suggest to use this if you just want a basic cleanser (non foaming, no fragrance, gentle and no frills and spills) but a good quality one that nurtures the skin. Ideal for different members of the family to use e.g children, which is always handy!

This product along with the rest of the skincare range from Aveeno can be purchased instore and online from Boots and also Amazon*. Both are currently selling this cleanser for £8.00.

  • Oh K! Foaming Cleansing Bar

It’s probably more so recently I’ve discovered more and more brands when it comes to skincare. Social media has its flaws of course, but can be very useful. Finding out about companies, brands and products through places such as YouTube and Instagram to be honest, is very handy, easy and addictive! Although I haven’t seen much about the brand Oh K! through these sites, I did stumble across them when they had a sale on many months ago. Curiosity, and a lover for a bargain, I purchased their Foaming Cleansing Bar for £1.00! Usual retail price is closer to £10.00.

    Oh K! Foaming Cleansing Bar

    Why did I buy this?

Cleansers come in a variety of shapes and forms but an actual bar? I’ve heard of people washing their faces with a bar of soap, but surely that’s quite an old fashioned practise? This intrigued me. Products now being placed in bars e.g shampoo, conditioning bars, is much more common now to reduce packaging materials and be more environmentally friendly. But on my shopping travels actual cleansing bars for the face don’t seem to be as obvious. So I wanted to now if it was effective. I liked the idea of it and the price was fabulous!

    What is this?

Think of an actual bar of soap but designed to cleanse the face. Simple. Designed for everyday use.

    Packaging.

The bar is cling wrapped but came in a small cardboard box. Mostly green in colour, modern in look with a quirky feel to it. Easy on the eye and quite cute!

    What do you get?

Not only do you get the actual foaming cleansing bar itself, but also a small mesh bag. From the packaging it shows this mesh bag is to keep the bar in it when not in use, and hang it up in the bathroom.

What does the cleansing bar look like?

Circular in shape. Roughly 6 inches in diameter and 2 inches in depth. Very chunky and a decent size. Mid green in colour, but not opaque. It has an almost semi transparent look to, as if looking through frosted glass and you can see through it but can’t.

    Fragrance.

I quite like the scent of this. It’s not strong, but it has a clean and fresh fragrance to it. I definitely get tea tree, as it has that slight antiseptic scent to it. A touch of citrus, and overall quite a neutral scent. Pleasant, not specific and not powerful.

    How to use.

Add water to the bar and rub between the hands to create lather. Use the lather to cleanse the face and rinse off.

    In use.

I’ve used this for over 10 days, morning and evening. I’ve not used any other cleanser alongside this, as I sometimes double cleanse with another product. And I haven’t changed any other area of my skincare routine, just to see how this fairs on the skin.

The bar itself was super easy to lather up, and did so very well without too much water. Rather than it producing a handful of bubbles it created more of a slightly bubbly cream. On the face it swished around easily, and it felt as if it was cleaning my skin. The only thing I did find if using less soap and more water gave me a better consistency of product to use. I’m not a wearer of make up, but it removed my eyebrow pencil fine. Sun cream hasn’t been tested on as I haven’t used much over the last 10days. But general day to day grime while using this seemed to do the job.

While using this bar, it’s fragrance was hardly noticeable. Just a tinge of something clean.

    Skin afterwards.

Did it feel particularly clean and fresh? Yes, it felt like that. What I would say is when removing the cleanser there was that squeaky feel straight after, which I didn’t like. But sorted that out by using a warmed damp flannel to go over my face straight after. Skin in look was normal. No massive differences. It looked as clean as it felt. So it did the job it was designed to do, no more no less.

    Recommended?

I think this would appeal to a certain type of person. Those who like the idea of not using products in packaging they feel isn’t necessary is definitely one. Someone who wants a cleansing product that is simple to use and not complicated, but with half decent ingredients. And someone who loves to use a bar of soap! This won’t be for everyone. As a cleanser it does what it’s supposed to do so if you are all or any of the above, this could be good for you. Would I buy this again? No. Using this makes me feel like it’s a task I have to do rather than something I enjoy to do. And I’m frightened one of the kids will think it’s for the body and use it on places my face does not want to go near…

If this does seem like your kind of cleanser, you can find this available to buy from Amazon here for £10.73 (*affiliate link included. It means if you purchase from the link I get a small commission but has no effect on the price you pay*).That may seem pricey, but this should last a good few months so not a considered purchase at all.

  • The Body Shop’s Camomile Cleansing Butter

I may not be a make-up wearer, but how my skin looks is important to me. This is probably why I love skincare, and skincare products that work and do their job well. One product I’ve been using to help clean my skin and prepare for the morning and evening is The Body Shop’s Camomile Cleansing Butter.

The Body Shop’s Camomile Cleansing Butter
Why have I been using this?

The lovely season of hay fever has not only caused havoc on the usual areas (eyes, nose, throat etc), it has really hit my skin hard! The face on my skin has become drier and less supple and I thought using The Body Shop’s Camomile Cleansing Butter would be gentle, effective and soothing on the skin.

    What does this do?

Camomile Cleansing Butter is a product designed for sensitive skin. This can be used as a make-up remover or general cleanser, so hard working without stripping the skin.

    Packaging

90ml of cleanser comes in a screw top flat tin. There’s something very appealing about how the packaging looks, easy to use and recycle.

    Texture

This has a look of Vaseline or any petroleum jelly type product but rather than being clear is white in colour and has a gloss to it. Although it looks solid in the tin, it isn’t. It’s very soft, and has that melt in your hands type of consistency when you touch it.

    Fragrance

The fragrance of this is a soft white floral. Pretty, clean in scent and not strong. Great for those who like fragrance but don’t want something too obvious.

    How to use

Use a small amount and rub it onto dry skin. Remove with a flannel.

    In use

I took a small amount of this and gently worked it over my dry face for around 2 minutes. The heat from my fingers made this go from a balm texture to an oil. My skin didn’t look or feel massively greasy but it did have an obvious shine to it. Easy to use, very enjoyable and soothing on the skin because it felt more like a treatment rather than a general cleanse.

The Body Shop’s Camomile Cleansing Butter was very nourishing on my skin and gentle. Despite having sore areas such as my eyes, this caused no issues at all.

Removal was quick and easy. I used a warm, damp flannel and gently removed this off my face. No residue was left and my skin felt and looked fresh and clean.

    Recommended?

This cleanser was easy and quick to use. It cleaned my skin without stripping it and drying it out and I adored the texture this comes in. I LOVED using this cleanser and if you love using balms and oils on the face, you will love this too! Definitely recommended if your budget can stretch to it as it’s not the cheapest cleanser on the market. This comes in 2 sizes. 20ml ( ideal for travel ) is £6.00. 90ml costs £12.00.

  • Revolution Skincare’s Mood Calming Cleansing Oil

There is nothing nicer than having clean skin. Fresh, dirt, grime free, perfect blank canvas to add anything on top of it e.g skincare products or/and make-up. There are so many different textures of cleansers on the market, we are all spoilt for choice. I love textures such as balms and oils. So I’m not surprised I bought Revolution Skincare’s Mood Calming Cleansing Oil. At the time of purchase this was on sale on their website for £5.60, usual price £8.00 for 140ml.

    Revolution Skincare’s Calming Cleansing Oil
    Why did I buy this?

I tend to find that if I want to get to the base of a skincare problem my best starting point is looking at what I’m washing my face with. I felt my previous cleanser could have been more hard working when it came to cleaning my skin, and I knew I was suffering from stress. Stress can manifest itself in many ways on the face, in the form of spots, lines and overall tiredness. This cleansing oil is something I’ve had my eye on for awhile. I felt my skin could benefit in using this, so when it was on for a sale price it seemed the perfect opportunity to buy and try.

What is this supposed to do?

This is a cleansing oil that’s designed to soothe stressed skin without stripping it of moisture, by being gentle and effective in its cleansing action.

    Packaging

140ml of cleaning oil in a pump dispenser glass bottle. It looks very smart, simple in style but very appealing with a basic looking label.

    Fragrance

Its not fragrance free as it has a scent to it. The fragrance though isn’t obvious or strong but very light. It doesn’t belong to a particular fragrance family, but it’s a scent that isn’t offensive. There’s a hint of a sweet floral base to it but it’s exceptionally delicate.

    Consistency

As the name suggests this is an oil. Typical oil texture but not thick as its easy to pump out and is very fluid. Pretty much the same thickness as most facial oils on the market.

    In use

I used two pumps of this on dry skin. The oil itself was so satisfying to rub over my face as it glided over it effortlessly. It didn’t sink in and stayed on the surface, which meant I could either spend 5 seconds cleansing or even 5 minutes. This made mince meat out of my eyebrow pencil, which previous cleansers had struggled to remove despite the product not being special e.g being waterproof or semi permanent. Once finished, I rinsed it off with warm water, which was very easy to do. Purely out of habit I wiped my face with a damp muslin cloth to make sure my face was oil free. How effective this is on heavy make-up I can’t comment as I don’t wear make-up, except as mentioned my trusty eyebrow pencil which I would die without!

    Skin afterwards

In look and feel my skin was clean, fresh, felt hydrated and not stripped of any natural oils but very importantly didn’t look or feel oily. Lots of people are scared of using oily products on their skin thinking it could prove to be problematic and actually create greasy skin, but not the case with this product.

    One week later

I’ve noticed that my skin does appear to be behaving itself and looks as if its in a better condition, smoother in fact, compared to how it was before. My facial routine hadn’t changed except for using this as a cleanser so I’m confident that this product has been helping regulate my skin.

    The Calming Range
    Recommended?

As a general cleanser definitely! If you love your oils and balms to cleanse with or slip into your daily routine as a treatment then this is a must! It cleans the skins, it doesn’t dry it out and its really easy and quick to use and quite enjoyable to apply. My only wish is I would really love this to be available in not only a bigger size ( at least double for home use ), and a smaller size ( 50/60ml ) for travel. Definitely an affordable everyday skincare product that won’t break the bank. What also makes this a great product to own is there is a matching face cream and mask so you can have a complete routine at your fingertips. Grab yours now direct from Revolution here and give yourself the gift of good skin.
