  • Affordable Elf’s Superclarify Cleanser

I love a cleanser. Having a clean face first thing in the morning and last thing at night, is the best way to start and finish my day. It’s safe to say I don’t mind trying out a new cleanser when I can. So, when I ran out of a facial cleanser a few months ago, I decided to purchase Elf’s Superclarify Cleanser from Boots. It was on a special offer and part of a 3 for 2 deal so actually cost me nothing. Normally it retails for £8.00.

    Elf’s Superclarify Cleanser
    Why did I buy this?

I genuinely needed a cleanser and noticed this whole range was on a 3 for 2 which made purchasing very appealing and also affordable. I’ve never bought or tried the ELF skincare range but heard good things about it and their prices seemed fair too.

What is this supposed to do?

This is a lightly foaming cleanser designed to gently clean the skin by removing dirt, oil and make-up effectively. Skin should look clean, smoother and overall fresher after use.

    Packaging

I love how this is packaged! 100ml comes in a vibrant orange plastic tube with the text on it in white, which makes it pop! This doesn’t look or feel as if it’s aiming for an older market, it seems more younger. But visually I like it.

    Texture

The texture of this reminds me of a shower gel or bath soak. It’s liquid but not too runny as there’s a slight thickness to it. Colour wise, it’s not clear and has an almost pearlescence to it, so quite appealing.

    Fragrance

Not heavily scented but definitely fragranced. There’s a light hint of lavender in this which isn’t too distracting and quite subtle. I didn’t dislike how this cleanser smelt but I did wonder what was the purpose of the fragrance unless the lavender was an ingredient that happened to have a scent?

    In Use

The instructions say rub a small amount of this cleanser onto the face which I did. After a few seconds it felt as if my skin had sucked it up as there was nothing really to keep rubbing into my skin. At this point I splashed water onto my face, which gave it a little life and the tiniest amount of foam. It didn’t go full on face wash mode though. In fact, I needed to go back in for a little more and add more water so it felt more cleanser like. This helped a little. It rinsed off fine and overall was quite a quick cleanser to use.

Elf’s Superclarify Cleanser removed the day’s dirt and grime well, along with eyebrow pencil and suncream. My skin looked clean but did feel a touch tight. Did I notice any improvements to my skin e.g smoothness? No not really. It did what a cleanser is meant to do which is clean it.

    Recommended?

If I’m honest I used this months ago, stopped using it and picked it up again. It didn’t bowl me over the last time I used it, and I didn’t particularly enjoy using this. But as a cleansing product it did the job. In regard to cost it’s not expensive and can be found on promotion every so often in stores such and online. It’s a decent size so would last a good number of weeks if not months of daily use. But I can’t feel this is for people under 25 years old so not me. Would I repurchase this? Not sure. Would I recommend it? For all the reasons I’ve already mentioned I would but maybe for the younger market? I can’t see this doing any harm but it’s not my favourite cleanser I’ve used.

If this cleanser sounds appealing to you, at the time or writing this post, it is on a 3 for 2 at Boots which covers most of the ELF skincare range.

  • Aldi’s Lacura Vitamin C Brightening Cleanser, is it Good?

I’m a fan of the supermarket Aldi’s own brand called Lacura. It should come as no major surprise that I bought one of their most recently stocked skincare products in the form of Lacura ‘s Vitamin C Brightening Daily Cleanser. I gave my first impressions of this cleanser when I first purchased it. Now that I’ve used this for a few weeks, what do I think about this product now?

Aldi’s Lacura Vitamin C Brightening Daily Cleanser
    Packaging

This packaging is very practical and easy to use. Being housed in a flip topped plastic tube makes it easy to dispense the product. Not hard to squeeze out the amount you want to use. If this is given as a gift, just so you know, it does comes boxed which makes it so much more presentable.

    Fragrance

I love this fragrance! It’s orange but not a zesty orange. It’s more softer, creamier and more comforting compared to a more acidic citrus smell. Not strong but obvious enough for you to smell and enjoy when using this cleanser.

    In Use

I currently use this morning and night. I squeeze out half a fingertip of cleanser onto my hands and rub it into my face which is dry. When using this at first, it’s a cream cleanser. I can rub this all over my face and at some point, it feels like it can’t rub in anymore. Then I add water to my hands which goes onto my face. This is when the once cream cleanser turns into a facial wash. Adding the water creates a light foam and totally changes the consistency compared to when it’s first used. When I add the water, I am not joking, I could move this cleanser all over my face forever! You add more water to it, and it keeps going, as if it’s reactivated. This takes a little time to rinse off if you’re thorough with it. Personally I enjoy this process.

Once I rinse this off, I pat my skin down with a damp and slightly warmed face cloth. My skin doesn’t feel dry but it does feel clean and fresh and ready for whatever I want to put onto my skin next. It’s important to add I wear suncream every day. No make-up, but this really does get my skin to a clean base canvas whether that’s in the evening or the morning.

    cream cleanser to facial wash
    Recommended?

I totally recommend this! The amount you use (you don’t need much) and the size of this tube (125ml) means this should last a good amount of time. Fragrance is appealing and the consistency is perfect. A comforting, cream cleanser which turns into a refreshing face wash? That doesn’t dry out the skin? The perfect combination which I think so many people will love the way I do. The price (£4.99) means you can purchase this without going bankrupt and possibly buy 2 at the same time and put the other one away for future use.

My only issue with this product, and the range in general, is availability. My local store has NONE of this range on its shelf at the moment. No matter how good this product is, if you can’t buy it, that’s a problem.

If Lacura’s Vitamin C Brightening Daily Cleanser sounds appealing to you and you manage to see this in your local Aldi store, you know what to do! Unfortunately, this isn’t available online so grab this while you can.

  • My First Look At Aldi’s Lacura Vitamin C Brightening Daily Cleanser

Aldi is a supermarket that not only is known for selling a wide range of food and homeware items, but they also have gained a reputation when it comes to their own branded skin and body care products. Is this important? It is for a couple of reasons. They have a wide range of products available (not always available at the same time). All are a good quality and what is equally important is they are affordable. Skincare doesn’t have to be seen as a luxury but can be a budget friendly necessity.

I’ve noticed in my local store they have started to stock a Vitamin C range which caught my eye. The one product I grabbed was Lacura’s Vitamin C Brightening Daily Cleanser with PHA & Orange Fruit Water. 125ml for £4.99.

So, what are my initial thoughts on this product?

Aldi’s Lacura Vitamin C Brightening Daily Cleanser
    Price

£4.99 for 125ml is good value. Using this morning and night should give weeks of use. Another important fact to think about is if you wanted and needed to repurchase this, it’s less than £5.00. This makes a repeat purchase more achievable than a one off buy.

    Packaging

If it wasn’t for the packaging I wouldn’t have spotted this, you can’t miss it! Orange in colour, white writing finishing off its look. Very basic and simple. It seems to be a trend a lot of stores follow if they have their own Vitamin C skincare range, making the packaging orange, and I wonder why? And it does work! What I love about this cleanser is it comes in a practical tube but it’s also boxed. It’s that extra touch which I like and if I was giving this as a gift it would make it more appealing.

    Texture

Aldi’s Lacura Vitamin C Brightening Daily Cleanser is very much a cream cleanser. Quite thick in consistency but not too much. The colour of this is orange but not glow in the dark orange, a much paler, creamier hue. A cream cleanser for many will be ideal during a colder season. The texture can be more comforting on the face, and less stripping of the skin compared to a facial wash, as an example.

    Fragrance

There’s definitely an orange scent in this cleanser but it’s not sharp and citrusy. Creamier, slightly sweet and not particularly zesty in fragrance.

    My First Impressions

Great size, perfect packaging and priced just right! It’s not something you would buy every week, so that £5.00 isn’t something you would be hit with often. I’m already liking the texture and scent of this and I can see this being a nice product to use all year round.

And The Rest Of The Range?

Customers have picked the shelf clean when I’ve gone to see what other products were available in this range. But what I got to see was there is an eye cream (very interested in this!) and a facial gel moisturiser.

Keep An Eye On This Range

If you shop in Aldi and looking to change up your skincare products, have a browse at this Lacura skincare collection and this product. I don’t think any of the products are over £5.00 so could be worthwhile buying and trying.

  • Q+A Peppermint Daily Cleanser

Cleansing the skin is an important stage. You’re prepping the skin for the next steps in your skincare routine, and making sure your face is a blank canvas for your serums, oils, moisturisers etc. But there are so many on the market it’s hard to chose which one will be right for you, well it is for me! A lot of the time we just have to buy them, try them and see which is the right fit for our skin. I made a purchase late last year from a brand called Q+A. I bought various skincare products, including their Peppermint Daily Cleanser. £7.50 for 125ml, but I got this during a 20% off sale so paid £6.00.

    Q+A Peppermint Daily Cleanser
    Why did I buy this?

I’ve wanted to try this brand for ages and the fact they had a sale on made it so much easier and cost effective to buy almost a full skincare routine. This cleanser I originally bought with my son in mind as I opted for their cleansing balm for myself. But I couldn’t help try this out because of how quick and easy a foaming cleanser is to use. Plus, it looked and sounded so interesting so I ‘borrowed’ it!

What is this supposed to do?

Peppermint Daily Cleanser is designed to clean the skin, refresh and energise it and to be used morning and night. This cleanser is supposed to help with calming the skin, skin firmness and hydration.

    Who is this for?

Skin type wise this is suitable for oily, stressed, dry, sensitive, normal and combination skin. So that’s pretty much all skin types.

    My skin type

There should be a category called Hot Mess because that’s what it is right now! Not too sure what’s going on with it but it seems to be a bit of everything at the moment except for sensitive and oily.

    Packaging

This cleanser is in a typical tube with a flip top lid. It’s mainly mint green in colour and white, with black text. It’s clean in appearance, it’s simple, effective and easy on the eye. The way it looks could appeal to anyone regardless of age or sex. The thing that stands out about the packaging is on the back there is a skincare check list. It tells you what skin type this product is for and what concerns this will treat. This makes the search so much easier when it comes to deciding if this is right for your skin or not.

    Texture

This is like a lot of cleansers that foam texture wise. It’s gel like, fluid but with a slight thickness to it and totally clear and has no colour.

    Fragrance

Love this! It should be no surprise that this smells of peppermint! So fresh, minty, very invigorating. But it’s not overpowering and gives you the hit of mint you want without it being eye watering.

    How to use

Mix in with water and apply to clean skin and rinse off. Use morning and night.

    In use

I’ve used this in the morning while in the shower, and in the bath in the evening. Mixing it with warm water it lathered up but it wasn’t too frothy. It had a slight creaminess to it which was a lovely texture. It went onto my skin easily, I enjoyed how it felt and the fragrance was uplifting and nice to smell. Easy to rinse off, didn’t sting my eyes and removed the only bit of make-up I wear, which is an eyebrow pencil. Skin felt clean and quite fresh.

    My skin after use

So this is where my initial joy of this product went slightly down. I looked at my skin after using this and noticed my face looked quite dry. It didn’t feel overly dry but definitely looked it. It was if moisture had been zapped out of it and I could see a dry, white look to some areas of my face. Bare in mind my skin colouring is brown, this made it quite obvious. I had hoped that this would only happen for the first few times of using this and then my skin would adjust, but I didn’t see this change with nearly 3 weeks of using morning and night.

    On my son

As mentioned, I bought this really for my son. He’s 12 years old, slightly spotty but nothing major, and probably combination skin in regards to his skin type at the moment. He hates washing his face, but using this is quick and effective AND doesn’t strip his skin at all. His face doesn’t look dry after use and this cleanser seems better suited to him than to me. He moans about the fragrance but to be honest he would moan regardless, and I think this was more agreeable to him compared to other scented cleansers I’ve forced him to use.

It’s not all bad, there’s been a discovery!

I couldn’t keep using this cleanser. The weather in the UK is getting colder, my central heating is never turned off so there are so many things trying to suck the moisture out of my skin already. I didn’t need my cleanser to be one of them. So I’ve been using a balm cleanser to make sure my skin wasn’t being stripped at the cleansing stage. But to make sure it’s all removed, I’ve used this Peppermint Daily Cleanser AFTER the balm which has given me an unplanned double cleansing routine that works well. I haven’t suffered the dry, white areas on my face that was visible before while using this combination. And this could be a good duo to remove sunscreen off my face now that I’m going to use some form of sun protection everyday.

    Recommended?

I actually think this is a good cleanser. It’s not expensive, it’s a decent size which should last for a few months, fab fragrance and easy and quick to use. It does what it needs to do which is clean the skin. But I suspect a face wash type cleanser or at least this one, just isn’t right for me (on it’s own). So my initial idea of buying this for my son and not for my face was spot on! But I would try this during the Summer months as I have a feeling this would be more suitable for my skin.

I would still recommend this despite this not being ideal for me. It might be a winner for teenagers, people in their twenties who don’t have massive skin issues and are happy to use a face wash type cleanser. People who normally use foaming washes but want something that smells fresh and zingy and I suspect this is could be a great for more combination to oily skin. I can see lots of the guys liking this too because there’s no fuss using this, it has a clean smell to it and the packaging is neutral but modern.

Great thing with this cleanser is it’s available in so many places, including Q+A, Holland & Barratt and many more if you want to try this out. If a face wash type cleanser works for you and you’re on the look out for a new one, why not give this a go?
