  • Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive SPF30 Sun Protection Lotion

Sun creams and lotion aren’t the most interesting or exciting products when it comes to skin and body care, but they are important! They protect our skin from the damage that the sun can cause in the form of sunburn, ageing, dry skin and the more serious health issues such as skin cancer. So I always have one form of sun cream or lotion in my household that we all can use from top to toe. The latest one to sit in our bathroom is Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive SPF30 Fragrance Free Sun Protection Lotion. This cost £3.20 for 200ml.

Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive SPF30 Fragrance Free Sun Protection Lotion
    Why did I buy this?

I bought this because the previous one we were using wasn’t available, so I needed an alternative. The branded ones were too expensive. It would be a costly mistake to pick one up and find that it didn’t agree with our skin and then have to buy a different one to replace it. So I opted for this at a lower price point. The fact Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive seemed ideal for sensitive skin was exactly what I wanted in regards to applying on my children. So sold!

What are the key points to this sun protection?

Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive has a high SPF of 30. It’s fragrance free and actually designed for sensitive skin. It provides both UVA and UVB protection (these are two different forms of radiation which can cause skin damage). This sun lotion is also water resistant. This means that it will still remain effective while the skin is wet e.g due to sweating, swimming, for a certain amount of time before the need to reapply.

    Packaging

200ml comes in a flip bottomed white tube. It looks very simple and clean in appearance. It’s not flash but it’s practical and looks like a sun protection product.

    Consistency

White in colour and looks very body lotion like but holds it shape. It’s not runny but liquid enough for application.

    On the skin

I found the texture of this to be very similar to a standard body lotion, but the more it rubbed into my skin the less ‘silky’ it felt. It really did need to be rubbed in thoroughly, and I found more so if I applied it over another product e.g body lotion. It felt less smooth and a little more resistant to the rubbing in action. Colour wise, it’s important to mention my skin is brown. So I could see this giving my skin a white/almost purple tint to it. But this did disappear once rubbed in but it took a little work to do.

On my skin, both face and body, it didn’t give a 100% natural look to it colour wise. But if I’m honest I don’t think it was noticeable to anyone else. Around the hair line needed a bit more attention to rub in but overall I had no issues with how this made my skin look. It looked moisturised but not greasy and it felt it too.

I haven’t noticed any staining on my clothing. No irritation to my already irritated skin (thanks to the heat), and my children have been able to apply it to themselves and they haven’t moaned or look like they’ve colour changed.

    Recommended?

Compared to my previous sun protection (Garnier Ambre Solaire Kids Sensitive Advanced), this was more hard work to rub into the skin. It didn’t feel as glossy on the skin and also Garnier Ambre Solaire Kids Sensitive has a more moisturising feel and look on the skin. But for what this is, the size, the price point, the effectiveness (performs fine while out in the sun) it does the job. If you’re looking for a budget sun protection lotion it’s worthwhile considering. And this can be used for all of the family. But be prepared to put your hands to work a little bit, especially if your colouring isn’t light!

A very affordable sun protection product that is decent in quality.

  • Treacle Moon’s The Gingerbread Unicorn Shower & Bath Gel

Supermarkets, love them or hate them, are the one place most of us visit regularly. Not only do we make our food purchases from them, but we also pick up our everyday toiletries including bath and body products. A new item I added to my collection is Treacle Moon’s The Gingerbread Unicorn Shower and Bath Gel. I bought this from Tesco. Usually £1.95 but at the time of writing this post it was down to £1.65 (Clubcard promotion).

Treacle Moon’s The Gingerbread Unicorn Shower and Bath Gel
    Why did I buy this?

I’ve bought Treacle Moon products before and really enjoyed them, but I haven’t tried anything new from this brand for awhile. When I spotted The Gingerbread Unicorn Shower and Bath Gel it interested me. I gave it a sniff and thought it smelt so nice and totally different to other shower and bath products I already owned. And of course the price made this a winner too!

    Packaging

Nothing unusual as it comes in a plastic clear bottle. What I do like is the unicorn prints on it, which look like they are made from gingerbread. It looks fun, doesn’t look like a cheap bath/shower product at all and would look nice in any bathroom.

    The shower & bath gel

This is a similar colour to set honey or even custard. Consistency is no different to any other shower or bath gel as it’s thick but liquid and very shiny.

    Fragrance

This smells like a toned down spicy and warming ginger. And do you know what else I THINK I can smell? Cream soda! I know that sounds crazy but this is the best way I can describe how this smells, ginger meets cream soda. And it’s a beauty!

    In the bath

I gave a generous squirt of The Gingerbread Unicorn Shower and Bath Gel under warm running water and it quickly produced bubbles. Lots of them in fact! The water didn’t change colour but it was covered in light and fluffy white, airy bubbles which I couldn’t wait to get into. The fragrance was there, although subtle. Since it wasn’t strong it was actually very comforting and relaxing because it wasn’t heady. But me being me I would love this to be stronger.

This produced a great bath which I enjoyed. The bubbles lasted well, the fragrance was in the background which smelt beautiful and I spent so much time in the bath I nearly drowned! Skin felt fresh, clean and not dried out when I got out and once dried ready to start the next stage in my body care routine.

    Recommended?

Bath and shower gels aren’t ground breaking, we use them everyday. But I love this one! Why? The fragrance is different, not the typical scent you get on a supermarket shelf and that’s why I really like this. It produces a great amount of bubbles, the perfect 500ml size for family use in the shower and bath and it’s not expensive. So why would I NOT recommend this? The Treacle Moon range is available from Tesco, ASDA, Waitrose and direct from Treacle Moon themselves. But just a warning, this is limited edition. So grab it while you can if this sounds like something perfect for your bathroom.

  • Budget Pampering Masking’s Aloe Vera Under Eye Masks

What I wouldn’t give to be able to walk into any store, shop online, and order any skincare products I fancied. This would be my idea of HEAVEN! Unfortunately, this won’t be happening. It’s called being a responsible spender. But it doesn’t mean I can’t get my skincare fix on the cheap. My local Tesco store sell a variety of different branded skincare products, including one called Masking. These are a selection of different sheets masks with one thing in common, they are all budget friendly. So, I thought I would try their Aloe Vera Under Eye Masks, which contain 2 sets of eye masks, at a budget busting cost of….£1.00!

Masking Aloe Vera Under Eye Masks
    Why did I buy this?

I was actually buying a few pieces for a friend’s birthday. I thought some sheet face masks would be nice and I grabbed these for her as well. But as I put them in the basket, I realised how much I fancied them. So for £1.00 I thought I might as well buy myself a sachet too!

What are these supposed to do?

These eye masks are supposed to leave the under-eye area feeling fresher, soothed and more relaxed thanks to them containing aloe vera. They are also designed to help with puffiness.

What do you get & How are these packaged?

You don’t get just one pair of eye masks you get two! These come in the typical sachet type packaging, but the masks are housed in their own separate sachet. Joined to the other, which you can pull a part. So, no need to worry about ruining one pair because the packaging is open and can’t be re-sealed.

These don’t look very fancy. But you can’t help but know these contain aloe vera thanks to the illustrations all over the white coloured sachets. Basic but look wise is acceptable.

    Ingredients

Some of the ingredients include water, glycerin, aloe vera juice, witch hazel, horse chestnut seed extra and caffeine.

    In Use

When I took a pair out of the sachet, I realised these are almost gel/rubber like in texture rather than typical sheet mask texture. When you take them out there are coverings on them you have to take off. These stop them from sticking together. These weren’t the most serum-soaked eye masks I’ve ever used but placing them onto the skin I found they were very cooling. Eye mask shaped, easy to place on and stayed on throughout the recommended 15-20 minutes of wear. I enjoyed wearing these.

When I took these off after 20 minutes, I added a little of the remaining serum from the sachet and dabbed it around my eyes. Roughly an hour later I had a look at my under eyes and they appeared to be no different (I didn’t expect anything to change to be honest!). What did surprise me was although my under eyes didn’t feel dry, they didn’t feel particularly hydrated. This was a little disappointing. I hoped for moisture and soft and supple under eyes, but I didn’t get this.

    Recommended?

For £1.00 I didn’t expect much. These are what they are and despite what I paid, these types of products are limited in what they can do. These were cooling on the skin, slightly fun to use and gives you a mindset of pampering. And that’s it. If you want something cheap and cheery, nothing too serious, slapping something on in the bath, go for it! If you want serious skincare, a moisture hit for tired, dried or aged under eyes then no. Treat these for what they are and you can’t go wrong.

  • Treacle Moon’s Limited Edition Spiced Plum Frosting Shower & Bath Gel

It’s nice to have something to put in the bath or use in the shower that’s different. There are certain products I repeat purchase but once and awhile there comes along something that stands out. I shower in the morning and have a bath in the evening, so if I can use the same product for both it makes my life easier. And that’s why a shower and bath gel or cream are perfect. So going back to products that are a bit different to the norm….how about a limited edition winter inspired shower and bath gel with an unusual fragrance (compared to the usual ones on the shelves that is)? Well I found one! A frantic dash to my local ASDA store last week resulted in me leaving the building with Treacle Moon’s Limited Edition Spiced Plum Frosting Shower & Bath Gel. £1.50 for a 500ml bottle.

Treacle Moon’s Limited Edition Spiced Plum Frosting Shower & Bath Gel
    Why did I buy this?

I’ve bought and used different products from this brand and I’ve enjoyed every single one of them. Seeing a new fragrance, limited edition and seasonal, was a no brainer to buy and try. I love my fruity fragrances anyway, and this just seemed so appealing sat on the shelf. And £1.50 for a bottle is the lowest I’ve seen their shower & bath gels so even more affordable than usual.

    Packaging.

Simple but beautiful. 500ml of product sits in a plastic flip top lidded bottle. It’s clear because you can see the gel in it as it’s coloured. What makes this striking and stood out for me was the label. Mostly white in detailing with wintery looking leaves, dots and a large festive looking plum to finish it off. How could you not be drawn to this?

    Fragrance.

This sounds silly to say but what exactly does a plum smell like? I can’t say I’ve ever grabbed a plum to sniff it! So saying this smells like plum wouldn’t be totally accurate if I can’t think of what the fruit smells like. But what this does remind me of a little is dark cherries. Dark cherries which isn’t harsh or sharp but quite creamy with a hint of spice at the back of it. It’s a beautiful scent and one I don’t think I’ve smelt in a shower or bath gel before. Very different yet very seasonal.

    Look & Consistency.

This is a gorgeous shade of an almost burgundy red. Very striking! Smooth, glossy, opaque and thick. But of course it is a liquid and similar to many bath or shower gels in consistency.

    In The Shower.

On a sponge this created a very creamy foam. I didn’t need to use a lot, and it washed my body well and I really enjoyed using this. The fragrance was very noticeable and I know this is one of the reasons I loved using this because of how it smelt.

    In The Bath.

A small amount under warm running water created lots and lots of bubbles! Bubbles that lasted a long period of time and didn’t disappear straight away. The water underneath at first was slightly coloured, but became clear quite quickly. Like in the shower, the fragrance was there. It’s one of those scents that was comforting and lovely. I forgot it was there and then I had to remind myself where the lovely smell came from when my nostrils got a whiff of it. This was a very relaxing bath that helped me unwind. This shower and bath gel didn’t dry my skin out or irritate it at all.

    Recommended?

If you don’t like fruity scents this probably isn’t for you BUT if you do this is a must! The scent is gorgeous, it foams up fabulously, comes in a great size and is only £1.50! And the packaging screams winter which is perfect for this time of year. So do I recommend this? Oh yes I do! In fact, I wish I picked up two of these.

If like me you have a fruity side when it comes to your bath products and want to grab this for yourself or as a stocking filler, there are a few places you can get this from. I’ve seen these on the shelves of both Tesco and ASDA, and I believe Waitrose stock the Treacle Moon range so this maybe there too. But ASDA do have this for the best price so check there first if you can.

    Happy plum picking!x
