  • Products I Bought & Used In The Month of August

Its officially September! For me? I’m happy about this. Kids go back to school, routines can come back into play and we drift into my favourite time of the year…autumn! But as a month, how was August in regards to budget friendly products I bought and used?

Impulse’s Wide Awake Sapphire Fragrance Mist

A body mist I managed to grab at an amazing low price, but I found Impulse’s Wide Awake Sapphire Fragrance Mist to be great mist scent wise but poor strength and longevity. Not a product I would buy again. It didn’t last long and was too subtle. But I would happily try other scents in this range in the future.

Frozen Lemonade Wax Melt From Wickford & Co

An ideal wax melt to use during summer, Frozen Lemonade Wax Melt From Wickford & Co was really enjoyable to use. Fruity, energising and not the usual tropical scents that is pushed out for this time of year. A typical low priced but good quality product available in Home Bargains.

    L’Oréal’s Hyaluron Expert Eye Serum

Anyone that has issues with their under eye area and wants to address it, will try many different eye products to deal with the problem. My current eye product is L’Oréal’s Hyaluron Expert Eye Serum which is very different from products I’ve used before. The serum applicator acts as a massage tool! It’s a pricey product (of course, I didn’t pay the rrp!), but a product I enjoy using morning and night and I THINK it’s helping slightly!

    Superdrug’s Coconut Oil Clarifying Shampoo

First time I’ve used Superdrug’s Coconut Oil Clarifying Shampoo and it will be the last. Of course, I will use the bottle up, not wasting it! I didn’t find this shampoo was right for my hair. Cleaned scalp? Yes. Cleaned hair? Yes. Enjoyed using it? No.

    ASDA’s Wellness Awaken Wax Melt

Not only do I love a reduced priced product, I love it when it turns out to be really good! ASDA’s Wellness Awaken Wax Melt is a beautifully fragranced wax melt which is a great combination of eucalyptus, tonka bean and vanilla. Great scent, nicely packaged but longevity needs a little improvement.

    Awaken Wax Melt

All of the above products I bought (at different times and months) and used in August, and all were bought at very affordable prices. Some products I liked, some I didn’t. But I know what I would repeat purchase and avoid in September!

  • Glow’s Pick Your Own Wax Melts From August’s Subscription Box

This year hasn’t been a year I’ve bought or melted many wax melts. Any particular reason? No not really. Sometimes I can melt constantly and sometimes I don’t turn my wax warmers on for a few weeks! Depends on my mood and how much time I have to enjoy them. But my love for wax hasn’t disappeared. An unexpected delivery I received from home fragrance, bath, body and skincare maker and vendor Glow definitely made me want to get my warmers on! Glow kindly gifted me the wax melts that featured in their Pick Your Own August Subscription Box. So what was included?

    Pick Your Own Wax Melts

5 wax melts in the following fragrances:

Sweet Strawberry Sherbet-literally an effervescent, sweet but slightly sharp fragrance mixed with strawberry. Stunning and totally WOW in scent!

Summer Spritz-this reminds me very much of one of my favourite drinks, which is pink gin. Subtle berries with a hint of citrus, which is how I drink my gin with lemonade! Summer personified!

Pink Fizz-this is a gorgeous blend of a variety of different scents. There’s something floral in this, fruity (berries), vanilla and to add depth a woody note with musk. It’s perfect! Very pretty in scent, so much so I wish this was an actual fragrance or perfume!

Frosted Strawberry Fairy-two words…strawberry Chewits! This is what this smells like to me! Strawberry, flavoured, chewy sweets! Yum!

Strawberries & Cream-creamy vanilla mixed in with strawberry. Nothing more nothing less just totally mouth watering!

    Sweet Strawberry Sherbet
    How do these look?

Each one of the wax melts are the same shape and size which is MASSIVE! Square, flat, measuring 10cm. But this is where the similarities between the wax melts end.

Sweet Strawberry Sherbet is vibrant yellow in colour with the words ‘Wax Boss’ embossed into it with what looks like a wax warmer shape around it.

Summer Spritz looks almost tie dyed in various shades of pink with butterflies, a heart shape and the words ‘Sparkle every day’ on it’s front.

Pink Fizz is a sweet shade of lilac with embossed hearts all over the top.

Frosted Strawberry Fairy, again, almost tie dye in effect in pink. 60’s in look (thanks to the style of font used) with the words ‘do what makes you happy’ with flowers around it.

Strawberries & Cream white and lilac in colour, with a jar shape on front with butterflies in it and coming out of it.

All of these are such generous sizes where they would provide hours and hours of fragrance. Not to mention themed perfectly for Summer. The look of these is so impressive, creative and stunning! Love each one and melting them has been a pleasure and a pain all at the same time!

Although this subscription box is no longer available, I can’t recommend enough ANY subscription boxes (especially wax melts ones) from Glow. I only received the wax but each subscription box, including this one, always has extras added to it which is related to the theme. These wax melts are beautifully created and fragranced. I was blown away by this selection as other’s who have ordered this will have been too!

All of Glow’s products are handmade by one super busy lady, so what’s in stock will change. So keep an eye on their home fragrance products, including their wax melts, on their website here. Be warned, their range of skincare, bath and body products is on there too. Don’t say I didn’t warn your credit card!

  • August’s Round Up, What Products Did I Use?

Another month comes and another month is about to go. In a blink of an eye, dare I say it, I will be writing about Christmas inspired bath products and Winter scented home fragrances! But focusing on firstly August, here is a round up of the products I used during this month.

    August’s products
Glow’s Oat, Milk, Honey & Lavender Bath Soak

An ideal bath time treat for those who want a different kind of bathing experience. Glow’s Oat, Milk, Honey & Lavender Bath Soak is perfect for those who love botanical infused products. Immerse yourself in relaxing lavender and soothe joints in a mini sea of magnesium. Perfect for a weekly pampering session (or more) if you can indulge in you time for 20 minutes or more in the bath tub.

    Aldi’s Lacura Moisturising Face Wash

Yet again Aldi’s Lacura skincare range are throwing products at us that are functional and affordable, like their Moisturising Face Wash. For 99p this is an effective cleanser that has been used by myself and both of my children and has done the job of cleansing our skin perfectly.

    Primark’s PS Skin Eye Roller

A great tool for the under eye that would work nicely with a daily skincare routine is Primark’s PS Skin Eye Roller. Quick and easy to use, soothing on the skin and a great way to give the under eye a pick me up if and when needed.

Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive SPF30 Sun Protection Lotion

Something many people haven’t been grabbing (but should) during the month of August is a sun protection product. Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive SPF30 Sun Protection Lotion is budget friendly product, good for all the family to use but those with darker skin tones will need to work this product into the skin a little more than others.

Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive SPF 30 Fragrance Free Sun Protection Lotion
    Glow’s Defence Moisturiser

Glow’s Defence Moisturiser, which I received in their July Subscription Box, is a great body moisturiser. Cooling, moisturising but light weight. Perfect to use in a rush or you don’t want thick textured body products.

    Glow’s Defence Moisturiser
Sunday Rain’s Mango & Coconut Foaming Bubble Bar

A good quality bath product in the form of Sunday Rain’s Mango & Coconut Foaming Bubble Bar. Good size, numerous baths can be taken with this and it foams up fabulously! I just wish it was more fragrant and moisturising.

Simple’s Illuminating Under Eye Hydrogel Mask

Simple’s Illuminating Under Eye Hydrogel Mask is on my repeat purchase list. Easy and comfortable to use, well made, freshens up the under eye area (even if it’s subtle) and widely available on the high street.

So that’s August 2023’s round up completed. Did you have any products that you used which you loved this month?

  • Glow’s Ruffles At The Palace August Wax Melt Subscription Box Part 2

I can’t be the only person who has struggled to melt wax this month. It’s been so warm, everything has been an energy zapper and overall it’s been a busy Summer! But I wanted, no I NEEDED to experience and hopefully enjoy the fragrances coming from the wax melts in Glow’s Ruffles At The Palace August Wax Melt Subscription Box I received a couple of weeks ago. So how did these pieces melt?

Glow’s Ruffles At The Palace August Wax Melt Subscription Box
    Once Upon A Time

I knew at first sniff I would love this because it has a fruity/sweetie like scent to it which I enjoy. This is a mix of fruits which gives it a mouth wateringly sweet scent. Tropical (pineapple), some citrus notes in here because I get a little zest and freshness in this. And berries. Absolutely delicious!

    Once Upon A Time
    Glass Slipper

This reminds me of a scent I’ve smelt before in wax but can’t put my finger on the scent name. But yet again another fragrance that is sweetly scented. Fruit is definitely at the forefront but doesn’t have the zest element that Once Upon A Time does. In fact, it has a creaminess to it that I think (and love) of when I smell anything containing vanilla.

    Glass Slipper
    Tale As Old As Time

Floral scented but not heavily floral. I suspect more white florals rather than coloured because of it’s intensity. Quite light but like Glass Slipper there is vanilla in this.

    Tale As Old As Time
    Three Wishes

Oh this is something special! I know there’s berries in this (raspberry and strawberries) but when I first got a whiff of this I thought I smelt rose. Not horrible, old fashioned rose. A beautiful rose, with depth and a slight darkness/musk which was quite seductive. But no…it’s strawberries, raspberries, orange oil and vanilla musk! Whatever is in this it’s beautiful.

    Three Wishes
    Enchanto

This has an almost bubblegum style scent to this! Sweet, fruity, a little on the tropical side. Just when I thought Once Upon A Time gave me a sugar rush I realised that this gave me a bigger one!

    Enchanto
    In Melt

All of these melted quite quickly and evenly. Each one left behind a beautiful slightly shimmering wax pool which was a joy to see! Since each one was differently coloured each wax pool was just as unique as their fragrance.

    Strength & Longevity

Each one of these wax pieces were medium in strength. I didn’t use too much, in fact I may have underused with some of these. But they filled the rooms they melted in well, not overpowering almost natural in fact. Longevity is a hard one to answer as I didn’t melt all of these pieces as long as I normally would. But each one was melted for a good number of hours at a time and remained consistent in scent and strength.

    Recommended?

This is a great collection of wax melts. Beautifully made, so look wise spot on and in keeping with the theme. Good sizes which should provide hours and hours of fragrance per piece and the wax pools were simple in style but eye catching. And the fragrances? All of them have similarities so feel as if they are part of a collection, but each one different and independent to each other. Recommended? Of course! Loved this subscription box! I can’t wait to try out another month, with another theme and new fragrances.
