  • Great For Teenagers? Dirty Works Coconut Foaming Sugar Scrub

If you ever want to have an instant body skin makeover, there are two products that can do this within minutes. One being a good body scrub. It will exfoliate and smooth and soften the skin even after just one application. And using a body moisturiser of choice. This gives the skin an even smoother feel but moisturised and protected. Both I love to use but it’s the body scrub I’m a bit lazy with. So it was a lovely surprise to be given by a friend Dirty Works Foaming At Last Coconut Foaming Sugar Scrub recently, now added to my body care collection.

    Why did I use this?

I’ve always been curious about this brand but never bought it. In all honesty I wasn’t too sure whether it was a good brand or not. But being given this, this gave me the perfect opportunity to test out my misgivings and see if this was actually a good product.

What is this supposed to do?

This is a body scrub which is supposed to gently exfoliate, moisturise and not dry out the skin and foam all at the same time!

    Packaging

This scrub comes in a plastic flip top tube. The colouring of this (mainly a coral pink) reminds me of the brand Soap & Glory. But the pictures on this (palms trees, coconuts, flamingo) makes it more tropical looking. I don’t particular love how this is presented but it’s ok. It does catch your eye but possibly more for the younger market. It’s too busy for me and screams a fun product rather than hard working one.

    Fragrance

A slightly sugary but not too sweet coconut scent. Not very strong but enough to get a subtle hit. It doesn’t bowl me over, it’s just ok. I’ve smelt better from similar scented products before but I’ve also smelt worse.

    Consistency & Texture

Squeezed out of the tube, this scrub comes out quite thick and with hold. A super pretty pale pink colour and doesn’t look totally smooth thanks to the sugar crystals. But when you touch it, it sort of has a slightly sticky feel to it. It has some slip to it but more sticky than greasy.

    In Use

When I applied this to damp skin, I found that I needed to go back in for more of the scrub. Using a small amount wasn’t giving my body the coverage I needed so I went in a few times. I could feel the small and slightly sparse exfoliating particles in this but they didn’t feel effective enough while I was using this. With the heat of my body these slowly seemed to be less and disappear (the particles are sugar crystals).

On my skin this sugar scrub looked like a light veil of cream. Not a lot, but slightly. I THINK this was the scrub foaming, but foaming isn’t a word to describe it at all! More a milkiness that you get when using some scrubs when it mixes with the water from the dampness of the body.

The fragrance was there, pleasant enough. My skin after use didn’t feel dried out but also didn’t feel particularly moisturised or treated. Did it look or feel smoother? There wasn’t a noticeable difference from before using this scrub to after.

    Recommended?

I thought Dirty Works Foam At Last Coconut Foaming Sugar Scrub was ok. There was nothing about this product that made me go ‘wow’. From the packaging, fragrance, consistency or the result on my skin, it was just ok. I didn’t enjoy it or love using it. It just didn’t quite hit the mark for me. I’ve used better and cheaper body scrubs which were amazing, so I wouldn’t purchase this myself. This would probably suit more a pre-teen, teenager who wants to use something that’s fun but not looking for a particular result, if that makes sense? But for a serious body scrub lover or addict? Pass.

But if you were interested in purchasing this product, it’s available on the high street and online from various places such as Sainsbury’s and Amazon. For the 250g version (mine is 50g) this retails for around £4.50.

  • Affordable Luxury From Glow’s March Bath & Body Subscription Box

There’s a reason subscription boxes are popular. They give customers the chance to try out new products or a combination of products they may never put together themselves. That’s why I’ve enjoyed Glow’s subscription boxes over the last couple of years. March 2023 box was a little different to their previous ones (usually wax melt based). This month’s showcased their new bath, body and fragrance range recently launched on their website. And guess who couldn’t resist buying it? For the cost of £22.00 including postage and packaging, what did I get?

Glow’s March 2023 Bath & Body Subscription Box
    What was included?
    • Celestial Whisper Hand Soap 250g
    • Raspberry Candy Floss Shower Gel 250g
    • Madame Body Mist 75g
    • Musk Silhouette Eau de Parfum 15ml
    • Dazzling Foaming Bath Salts 260g
    • Raspberry Candyfloss Body Butter 120g
    • Tropical Paradise Coco Bath Bomb
    • Face brush
    • Gua sha facial smoother
    • Jade facial roller
Raspberry Candy Floss Shower Gel & Celestial Whisper Hand Soap
    First impression

As I was ripping open my parcel when it arrived, my first thought was there was ALOT of products in this! A great (and thoughtful) mix of products for the bath, body and even the face. Some of these products would be used everyday (shower gel, hand soap and body mist) and some to help relax and pamper, so more as a treat (bath salts, bath bomb, body butter and eau de parfum etc).

    Madame Body Mist
    Sizes

Sizing is generous with each product. These are not sample sizes but full sized products! Weeks worth of use from Celestial Hand Soap and Raspberry Candy Floss Shower Gel. Up to 4 baths from Dazzling Foaming Bath Salts. Raspberry Candy Floss Body Butter contains many, many applications and Madame Body Mist and Musk Eau de Parfum lots of product to use if and when needed.

    Musk Silhouette Eau de Parfum
    Packaging

All of these items have functional packaging to them. They aren’t fancy but simple in a good and practical way. I really like how the bottles are black which makes them stand out. And the tubs being clear means you can see the product inside.

    Dazzling Foaming Bath Salts
    Fragrances

I’ve had a cheeky sniff of all of these products and they smell fabulous! Most of these are all the types of fragrances I like anyway and these are scented beautifully, fragrant and obvious but not overpowering. I’m not 100% sure abut the foaming bath salts in Dazzling as it’s quite left field for me. But of course I will give it a go before I pass judgement so watch this space!

    Raspberry Candy Floss Body Butter
    The extras!

The added facial tools were totally unexpected but equally welcomed. What a brilliant addition to this already overflowing box of goodies. So not only is the body treated by using the Glow bath and body products but now the face can be pampered too.

    Tropical Paradise Coco Bath Bomb
    Recommended?

I can’t recommend (or not) this box because it was limited in numbers for March’s release. But what I can say is if a similar subscription box comes out like this in the future, then yes! These are practical but luxurious products, full sizes and will cover nearly all of your body care needs. I’ve already been lucky to try a few of these items previously but in different fragrances (*gifted*Pink Sugar Foaming Bath Salts and Amber & Lavender Body Butter) so I know what to expect. But I’m so excited to try the other products. This is what you call affordable luxury even on a budget!

  • My First Bath & Body Works Body Cream In Winterberry Wonder

The best way to try out new brands and products is when they have a sale. If you love them, you will purchase them at full price in the future (although being on sale is always better!). If they aren’t right for you it didn’t cost you a fortune to find out. One brand I’ve always been curious about, but never tried, is Bath & Body Works. They have an extensive range of bath, shower and body products, not to mention home fragrance items as well. So the perfect time for me to make my first purchase of their products was during their Boxing Day Sale. I grabbed Winterberry Wonder Body Cream online from Next for £4.00, normally £16.00 for 226g.

Bath & Body Works Winterberry Wonder Body Cream
    Why did I buy this?

The price of this product was affordable, the scent description online sounded great and I’m a bit of a body moisturiser junkie so perfect starting point to see what this brand was like in general.

What is this body lotion supposed to do?

Winterberry Wonder Body Lotion is designed to be a moisturising body product rich in texture, giving the skin a smooth, soft look and feel thanks to it containing shea butter and hyaluronic acid.

    Packaging

This body lotion comes tubed. Purple in colour, textured and very striking in look. It looks like it belongs in a gift set with a fine fragrance so very eye catching.

    Fragrance

This body lotion smells like a mix of berries and vanilla with a hint of sugar. It’s a beautiful scent. It’s fruity but in a very uplifting, energising way not sickly sweet and traditional.

    Consistency

White in colour with a typical body lotion texture. Loose in texture but not runny. When you first squeeze it out it does look quite thick but when applied it isn’t.

    On the skin

I found this body cream easy and quick to apply. I was a little disappointed this was more body lotion than body cream, because on the skin it didn’t feel particularly luxurious. Not only wasn’t it luxurious but it felt very light weight on the skin. Not a bad thing, but I wanted something thicker, more moisturising and heavier. After application, my skin felt slightly moisturised but not much and looked matt in appearance.

The thing that stood out for me with this product was the fragrance. Absolutely stunning and made using this an absolute joy. The fragrance was long lasting on the skin and this made me very happy.

My body didn’t look or feel much different after using Winterberry Wonder Body Cream. The only thing that was different after use was it was fragranced.

    Recommended?

My experience with this product was a little underwhelming. For it to be called a body cream made me have certain expectations. I expected some slip to it, thickness, moisturising and protection on the skin. This wasn’t. On my skin it felt like a basic body lotion. So not a body product I would recommend for dry skin and your skin is very thirsty and needs richness. If you have normal skin and looking for a light weight, beautifully fragrant body moisturiser then I would say buy this, but only on sale. At full price, £16.00 in my opinion is expensive and I would want to feel my skin plump with moisture after use paying that price. I didn’t get that with this. Would I buy this again? No. Would I buy the fragrance form of this if available? In a heartbeat!

There are lots of products within the Bath & Body Works range which is available from Next. My next purchase I think will be a fragrance because the body cream is not for me.

  • My Top 8 Products of 2022

My love for bath, body, skincare and home fragrance products didn’t change in 2022. In fact, it just got bigger (along with my stash)! I used lots and lots of products but which ones were my favourites in 2022? In no particular order….

Simple’s 5 Minute Reset Hydrogel Mask

Relaxing, soothing, hydrating, kind to the skin and really enjoyable to use, Simple’s 5 Minute Reset Hydrogel Mask is something I would repeat purchase time and time again.

I have no idea why it took me so long to buy Palmer’s Coconut Oil Body Lotion but when I did and used it I loved it! Beautifully fragrant, moisturising without being greasy and left my skin very happy.

    Aldi’s Lacura Exfoliating Foot Scrub

Feet need to be looked after too, and for under £5.00 Aldi’s Lacura Exfoliating Foot Scrub gave my unloved feet exactly what they needed. This was an effective but not harsh exfoliator, moisturising at the same time and had a pleasant minty fragrance.

    Aldi’s Lacura Exfoliating Foot Scrub
    Palmer’s Coconut Oil Balm

Another winning product from their Coconut range. Palmer’s Coconut Oil Balm is one of those multi-purpose products that I used often. On the heels of my feet and on my lips have been the main areas (and driest) of my body that has literally sucked this up.

    Scentsy’s Hibiscus Pineapple Sugar Scrub

Scentsy’s Hibiscus Pineapple Sugar Scrub was an absolute revelation to me. A mouth watering tropical fragranced scrub with a heavenly texture. This left my skin feeling so soft and smooth I could have cried when this finished! Not cheap, so this would only be a repeat purchase if on sale unfortunately.

If you want an unusual but fabulous scented body lotion which is incredibly moisturising, Superdrug’s Vitamin E All Over Body Cream with Lavender is the one! This fragrance really is so relaxing and a great twist on the fragrance of lavender.

I like things to take me by surprise and one thing that did was coffee scented wax melts! This fragrance has never been on my radar but Glow’s Cafe Coffee Inspired Wax Melts (which were gifted, they were a competition win) were stunning! Cosy, homely, comforting and the perfect Autumn/Winter scent to fragrance the home.
