  • Palmer’s Coconut Oil Body Lotion

    There is one thing I am good at and do without fail when it comes to body care. I am a dedicated user of a body moisturiser. Whether it’s a lotion, cream, soufflé, butter, whatever it is, I apply one twice a day everyday. There is nothing worse than having dry skin on the body. For me, it doesn’t look good which doesn’t make me feel good. My current body moisturiser I’m using is Palmer’s Coconut Oil Body Lotion. I bought this from Home Bargains for £2.79 for 350ml.

    Why did I buy this?

    The Palmer’s Coconut range has always intrigued me. I’ve seen it dotted around various shops and it’s something I’ve wanted to try for awhile now. Over the years I’ve used lots of products from Palmers, including their iconic Cocoa Butter Lotion, so I wanted to see if this was just as good as that. Coconut Oil Lip Balm, Facial Scrub and Balm are all products I’ve used and liked, so of course I had to add this to my Coconut Collection!

    What does this body lotion supposed to do?

    Moisturise the skin thanks to it’s rich texture, and containing fatty acids and proteins which help keep skin in great condition.

    Consistency

    Typical body lotion like. It’s not too thick and it’s not too thin. Like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, it’s just right!

    Fragrance

    Love love love how this smells! Using other products fro the range made me hope this smelt the same as them, and it does! It has a slight coconut scent to it. But imagine it’s lightly toasted with a touch of brown sugar and a little vanilla and that’s the only way I can describe it. Don’t think this is a sickly sweet scent because it’s not. And it’s not strong either. It’s warming, it’s comforting and the strength is perfect.

    In use

    I’m very generous when it comes to using body lotions, but found I didn’t need much to cover my whole body with this one. Even when I’ve used too much this doesn’t take a massive effort to work into the skin. The feeling on my body was a sense of being moisturised but not greasy or oil. And looking at my skin this reflected the same thing. My skin felt soft and smooth after application which is what I always want.

    Fragrance wise, I can’t help but keep smelling when I’m using this body lotion because it’s just so good. I find it stays on my skin for hours although it’s light and not heavy. It doesn’t clash with any other fragranced product I use alongside it and it makes this a pleasure to use because of how it smells.

    I can use this in the morning or before bed, and hours later my skin is still hydrated look and feel wise. No ashy skin on this body!

    It’s taken me so long to buy and use this product, and the wait was worthwhile! I LOVE this body lotion. It’s thick enough to do the job it’s designed to do but it’s formulation is quite light weight and non sticky. Perfect when you need a lotion to be effective and to be used quickly when you’re in a rush. And the scent…not everyone will love this because fragrance is a personal thing. But very few people WON’T like how this smells. Recommended? Oh yes it is! Buy it, use it and love it.

    Great thing about this body lotion and other products in this range, is it’s available in so many places. Supermarkets, discount stores etc, so you won’t have trouble grabbing this ready to keep your skin in tip top condition.

  • Superdrug’s Vitamin E All Over Body Cream with Hibiscus Extract

    Currently in the UK, it’s not warm it’s ROASTING! This is not the time for me to forget about looking after the skin on my body. One trip to put something in the bin outside my house makes me feel like a dried out piece of oven baked chicken. So besides the use of sun cream/lotion, I’m upping my body’s moisture, not only from the inside but the outside too in the form of body creams. On my current body care rotation I am using Superdrug’s Vitamin E All Over Body Cream with Hibiscus Extract. This costs £4.99, but I bought it when it was a buy one get one half price deal within the Vitamin E range.

    Why did I buy this?

    I’m a body lotion/cream/butter addict! I love applying it, even if I’m in a rush. I hate dry skin on the body and it’s a part of my routine I rarely deviate from. And with so many textures and fragrances out there, it’s fun to try as many as I can out. This particular one I ordered because of the multibuy offer, and there were various products from the range I wanted to try and could afford to. This seemed a good size, interesting fragrance and a good price so why not?

    What is this & who is it for?

    Designed for normal to dry skin, this body cream is supposed to moisturise the skin while leaving it fragrant and smooth. With the added addition of Vitamin E, this helps to protect the skin from environmental damage and premature ageing.

    Packaging.

    465ml of body cream is housed in a screw top tub. Quite simple in look and design, with it’s splashes of cream and peachy pink colouring. Quite Summer and flowery like in look, with mentions of it supporting the charity Marie Curie. 15% of the price of the body cream goes to them.

    Fragrance.

    This fragrance is noticeable and not subtle. It’s a sweet floral scent which is quite specific, good strength to it but not something my 12 year old son would probably want to smell like. Not old fashioned at all, quite pretty and feminine. I quite like this. But be warned, if your sense of smell is easily aggravated or sensitive e.g hay fever, this might be too much.

    Texture.

    The fact that it lives in a tub means this isn’t a sloppy and lose body lotion. It definitely IS a cream! Thicker than a lotion but not as thick as a body butter. It holds it’s shape while in the tub but when you take it out the texture isn’t as thick as it appears.

    On the skin.

    I hate being stingy with body lotions. I would rather use more than less. But this body cream is quite rich and you don’t need to use too much. Despite how thick this looks when you scoop some out and apply it, it’s consistency is more body lotion like in use. Very easy to rub into the skin if you don’t use too much. There is a slight waxiness to it, but it’s not too much and doesn’t leave the skin sticky. It doesn’t leave my skin looking shiny but a very delicate appearance of being hydrated with a sheen.

    I find when this is first applied the fragrance is very much there. But it doesn’t seem to linger as time and hours go on. The fragrance is stronger than most of my current collection of body lotions/creams, but because it doesn’t continue with the same strength it’s good as it dies down naturally and fades.

    After use.

    This moisturises fine for me. I don’t feel like my skin is thirsty and needs reapplication once its used in the morning or evening. My skin I would say is normal. I moisturise twice a day so I don’t allow my skin to dry out for nothing or no one! So it’s in a decent condition and this works for me. Also, the occasional patch of psoriasis doesn’t seem to be set off or made worse by this product which is good.

    Is this really for normal to dry skin?

    Normal definitely! It will do the job well. Dry? Just about I think, but without suffering from dry skin I wouldn’t want to give a definite no or yes.

    Recommended?

    Yes I would, for the following reasons. You get a whopping amount for the price. And despite the relatively low everyday price, this product and range regularly are on offer so you can get it even cheaper! The cream is lovely to use, does the moisturising job and fragranced well. Just be mindful if fragrance isn’t your thing in body care or/and you aren’t a fan of floral scents this won’t be for you.

  • Maui Shea Butter Body Lotion

    So, I actually have a problem! It’s hard for me not to find new skin and body care products irresistible. When I say new, I mean new to my skin and face, never been tried and experienced by me before. It’s an addiction which I will get help for soon, promise! So it shouldn’t be a surprise I recently picked up Maui Shea Butter Body lotion from Home Bargains for 99p!

    Why did I buy this? It was 99p! I know of this range from seeing their hair care products in stores, such as Boots and Superdrug. So when I saw the body products available, and at a stupidly low price, it was a no brainer! Body lotion, shea butter, hydrating, all words I love to hear and see. And at a bargain price!

    Maui Shea Butter Body Lotion

    What is this meant to do? Maui Shea Butter Body Lotion is formulated for very dry skin. With a mix of aloe vera juice, coconut water, shea butter ( and other ingredients ), this is supposed to make your skin moisturised and look and feel healthier.

    Packaging. 384ml of lotion lives happily in a purple tinted, plastic bottle with a gold flip top lid. The labelling has an almost exotic, island vibe to it (think Hawaii or somewhere equally as tropical and glorious!). It’s a great looking, well packaged product that looks more in keeping price wise with its rrp (£8.99).

    Scent. This is what confirmed I NEEDED to buy this! Sweet, but not sickly. Hints of coconut, a creaminess to it which is on the verge of vanilla ( but I suspect it’s the shea butter element to it ) and a little floral. An unusual scent that I haven’t smelt before in a body product. It smells beautiful and I could happily have this in various forms from bath products, perfumes to wax melts!

    Texture & Consistency. White in colour and pretty much like most body lotions in regards to texture. Smooth, fluid but I found this not runny.

    On the skin. Easy to apply and sank in quickly and well. BUT only when I used a small amount. My skin felt it had something applied to it but still looked and felt quite normal. I did feel though it didn’t quite give me the hydration I wanted, so using more made up for this shortfall. Only problem with that is I had to work it into my skin. It reminded me of applying sun protection where you have to really rub it in to get the white coloured cream to disappear. That’s what I found when I used the amount my skin needed. Applying more left a visible delicate shine. This made my skin look better, moisturised and it felt it too. THIS was what I wanted.

    My skin was lightly fragranced with the scent of this lotion, which was lovely. Not strong, but enough for it to be there and to enjoy

    Is this really for dry skin? I wouldn’t say my skin is exceptionally dry, but when it is it’s obvious because I have Afro Caribbean skin. Dry normally means lack lustre, dull, even chalky white in appearance. So I know dry. I would say this is a good body lotion for someone who has normal skin heading towards slightly dry, but not very dry. The formulation would need to be a touch thicker and waxier in my opinion. So if you have no real skin concerns in this area this will be absolutely fine. If you suffer from very dry skin, this wouldn’t be my first choice.

    Important Note. There are lots of ingredients that has been left out of this product and I suspect from their entire range (although do check I’m not 100% sure). These ingredients are things such as mineral oils, silicones, parabens and SLS’s just to name a few. This is important to some consumers as many people want their products to be as natural as possible, and contain as few things in it that can cause irritations to the skin.

    Recommended? I would if as mentioned above you don’t suffer from very dry skin. Although it’s a shame as this is what it’s marketed for, I didn’t feel it quite lived up to that promise. But It is a lovely product to use which smells great. Packaging makes this an ideal gift or part of a bigger gift to someone because it looks the part. And if you can get this for 99p personally I would get a few as it’s such good value.

    But would I recommend this at full price, or buy it myself at £8.99? If I’m honest, no. A body lotion is something I can go through like a thirsty person drinking water. And what I wouldn’t want to do is buy something that should be for everyday use, but fear when it runs out. When it does run out it would need to be replaced. And at £9.00 it would be an expensive one off purchase, but more importantly an expensive repeat purchase. There are many body lotions out there that are much cheaper and just as good if not better if you wanted to keep your body moisturised regularly.

    Want to get your hands on this sweet smelling lotion? You can pick one up from many places such as Boots and lots of online retailers too. But please check Home Bargains first. For the price of one on the high street you could pick up NINE with a few pennies left over if bought from there! So if you do buy it, buy it cheaply please.

  • NSPA Coconut & Vanilla Rich Body Butter

    Is there one part of your body care routine you can’t skip? Mine is applying a body lotion or moisturiser of some description. And this is for a few reasons. I have afro Caribbean skin. Having ashy skin is NOT good! It basically means skin that looks dry and grey if you didn’t know. And THAT is a no no, so lotion is a must! On top of that I’m a psoriasis sufferer. Like eczema, it’s important to keep the skin moisturised and protected or it can become cracked and sore. So it should be no surprise I have plenty of body moisturisers in my beauty/body stash to keep me going. One on current rotation is the NSPA’s Coconut & Vanilla Rich Body Butter. I bought this from my local Asda store for £1.50 while on sale ( rrp is £3.00 ).

    NSPA Coconut & Vanilla Body Butter

    Why did I buy this one? I bought several of these butters in different fragrances thinking of my pre-teen son. I’ve been encouraging him to get into good body care habits e.g moisturising, using deodorants etc, now he is getting older. Body butters are great for improving the appearance of skin. I thought one would provide him with fragrance too so ideal. I asked him to choose some which he did. He didn’t want this one so I kept it for myself!

    Packaging. Quite a sizeable screw top clear plastic tub housing 200ml of body butter. Its quite basic in regards to the labelling ( picture of coconuts, product fragrance, brand name etc ), but it does the job!

    Scent. This doesn’t have a strong coconut scent for me. It’s there. Just a touch, with a hint of vanilla in it giving it creaminess. It’s quite balanced between the two and not overpowering. The scents themselves together are exactly what I thought it would smell like, so quite typical and very pleasant. It’s one of those fragrances most people would like as it’s not offensive.

    Consistency. White in colour. Body butter like definitely, but less greasy and solid and more of a thick lotion consistency.

    On the skin. I found this was very easy to apply to the body because as mentioned its not crazy thick or greasy. So this didn’t need to be worked in like a richer body butter. It does have a slip to it, and when rubbed into the skin I could feel it leaving a protective layer. What it didn’t do was leave my skin shiny or oily. It was matt and not tacky. I love textures, oils and balms. But what I liked about this was it felt more like a supercharged body lotion which could be applied and clothes could be thrown on straight away.

    I felt this left my skin moisturised without being or feeling heavy in use and on the skin. Easy and quick to use in the morning and evening, and skin felt supple and nourished straight after. Through out the day I didn’t notice my skin drying out or needing a top up. I could smell my skin had been lightly fragranced by this body butter which was lovely. It wasn’t strong or lingering for hours on end, but was a nice touch.

    Recommended? Totally! This is a budget friendly body butter which won’t break the bank, and will moisturise the skin beautifully. Because its not as rich as other body butters, this would be a good one for those who don’t want that that type of texture but feel they need more than just a body lotion. Coconut & Vanilla is a great one for those who want something that smells nice and warming but not strong.

    This is regularly on sale I’ve noticed in my local ASDA store, along with other fragrances available. But can be purchased direct from Spa At Home here if needed, with a fuller range of butters and other products from the company. There is zero excuse for ashy skin!
