  • Treacle Moon’s Coconut Island Body Scrub

Hands up who forgets about their body during winter? It’s cold and wet. Most of us are walking around wearing 5 layers of clothes. And let’s not mention the over indulgence during Christmas and New Year! So no surprise if the condition of the skin on our body isn’t top of our to do list, right? But our skin is our biggest organ, and keeping it in good shape doesn’t have to be a massive or expensive chore. Realising I haven’t been taking my own advice on board in regards to body care, I’ve dragged out my Treacle Moon’s Coconut Island Body Scrub to get my skin feeling silky smooth. I bought this in Tesco some time ago when it was half price for £1.50.

Treacle Moon’s Coconut Island Body Scrub

Why did I use this one? I do have a few body scrubs floating around. But I chose this one because I wanted a product that would be quick and easy to use in the mornings before work. No fuss, use, in and out and gone!

Packaging. 225ml of body scrub is housed in a plastic flip top bottom tube. A descriptive paragraph on the front conjuring images connected with the fragrance of this scrub is a lovely touch. And the usual info including such as ingredients can be found on the back.

Texture. Similar to a body lotion. It held its shape as it came out of the tube but wasn’t totally solid. White in colour, but small, brown pieces/grains were clearly visible. These are tiny pieces of coconut shell that act as the exfoliator. Despite these pieces, the scrub itself looked shiny, opaque and smooth.

Scent. I’ve tried various coconut scented products over the last few months, so I already had an idea in my mind what this would smell like but I was wrong. There was a slight tropical scent to this, but what really put a smile on my face was the sweetness. Imagine a small element of coconut, mixed in with sugar and a vanilla pod scraped into it. Slowly mixed together over heat. Leaving a gooey, sugary, comforting smell wafting in the air. THIS is what it smells like and its DEVINE! Bakery like in scent family, but not sickly or over the top.

How to use. On the packaging it doesn’t mention how many times a week you should apply this. Traditionally, body or face scrubs products advise twice to three times a week in regards to application. But it does state it should be massaged onto damp skin using circular movements. Rinsed off and body towel dried.

In the shower. I applied this to damp skin. I wasn’t frugal with the amount I used. A decent sized blob on each part of my body e.g arms, legs, torso etc, which was rubbed in. I could feel the grains in the scrub. Perfect size as they didn’t hurt as I moved the scrub around on my skin but I could feel them, which is what you want. Easy to wash off in the shower.

Skin afterwards. I didn’t realise this until I was just about to apply body lotion to my skin, but it felt very soft and smooth! Didn’t feel or look dry and I could easily have skipped moisturising if I wanted or needed to, but didn’t.

Recommended? Definitely! I’ve used a few products from Treacle Moon and so happy to say like the others, this has been a joy to use and not disappointed me. The scent was beautiful, it was easy and fun to use and did exactly what I needed it to. I genuinely couldn’t ask or expect anything more. It’s not an expensive product at full price. £3.00 for 225ml and to use this twice a week? This should last ( dependant on the amount you use of course ), a good month if not 2, so great value. Although I got bargain when bought at half it’s rrp.

I don’t think the scrub is available in Tesco anymore ( not in my nearest one anyway ), but you can order this direct from Treacle Moon here. Which is great because they have free delivery with a £15.00 or over spend AND their full range of shower/bath gels and hand creams are there too! Happy shopping!

  • Something Different With Bath Beauty Babe’s Bath Pop

Regardless of the time of year whether it’s freezing cold or roasting hot, I have to have a bath. A bath is part of my evening routine where I wash my body, relax, unwind and hopefully read a few pages from my chosen book at the time. Since I love baths so much I like to use different bath products and try out new ones when I can. Recently I felt it was the perfect opportunity to delve into my stash of bath products and grab something I haven’t used before which was Bath Beauty Babe’s (formally known as Jenny Makes For You) Bath Pop. I bought this with other products some months ago, and it cost £3.50.

    Bath Beauty Babe’s Bath Pop
    Why did I buy this?

I originally bought this because it looked fun. It sounded like it would be really good for my skin, more pampering than a bath bomb or fizzer and it was affordable.

    What’s a Bath Pop?

Lollipop in shape and made from cocoa butter with added fragrance, when placed in running warm water, it will melt to create a bath soak. Made to be moisturising and comforting on the skin. It’s a bath product that is reusable and not just for one bath which provides great value and another reason for me to purchase it.

    How does it look?

This bath pop is roughly 3 inches in diameter and disc shaped. Half is blue in colour and the other a light raspberry red shade. Slightly domed in shape with a swirled pattern moulded into it, giving it texture and a more 3D appearance. To finish off the look at the bottom of this bath pop is a stick, which is what you hold when placing in the bath.

    Fragrance

There’s a chocolate scent to it. It verges closer to a dark chocolate scent with a hint of orange. It’s not strong or sickly. Very pleasant to smell and not the scent you would thin it would be based on how it looks which was interesting.

    How to use

Hold this under warm running water to allow this to melt or swirl it around in a ready filled warm bath.

    In the bath

I held this under warm running water. While the water got hotter, I could see the colour almost running off the bath pop, and the actual shape of it changing and getting smaller as it melted away. Small coloured droplets which looked oil like was left behind in the bath once I put the bath pop away. No bubbles, no foam. This looked more like a bath treatment/soak. So not the most inviting looking bath to get into but definitely not boring!

While in the bath, I could immediately feel the now melted cocoa butter clinging onto my skin. Perfect opportunity for me to rub this into extra dry areas such as feet, elbows and knees. Those droplets of colour now merged together and were more dark grey by this point, so not as pretty as before. The fragrance was there while using this but fainter compared to taking it out of it’s packaging, but still a nice scent.

    Out of the bath

My skin felt very moisturised when I got out of the bath. If you’ve ever used raw ingredients such as shea or cocoa butter, you will know there is a greasiness to them. This is what I expected from this bath pop, which it was and I loved it. I didn’t need to apply a body lotion or cream after my bath as my skin didn’t need it. This layer of protection it provided lasted a good amount of time after, even when I threw my clothes on.

My top tips for using this Bath Beauty Babe’s Bath Pop
    1. Wash and clean your body before using this. I would call this more a treatment rather than a way to cleanse the body on the skin. So jump in the shower with a shower gel, soap etc, have a wash, and then sit in the bath and use this.
    2. Use a body scrub. Get rid of all dead skin cells before using the bath pop but after washing the skin, so the cocoa butter from this product soaks into fresh and juicy skin and won’t be sitting on old skin cells.
    3. Pat your skin dry. Don’t grab a towel and roughly dry your skin and rub most of this off! Gently pat so the bare minimum of the cocoa butter comes off but your skin will still be covered in melted Bath Pop.
    Who won’t like this

If you want foam and bubbles this isn’t for you! Or if you don’t like oily or greasy textures you won’t like this. This does leave the bath a little slippy so you would need to wash this bath out straight away! It doesn’t stain the bath but will leave a mess. So if the aftermath doesn’t appeal to you or worried about slipping e.g age, mobility, give this a swerve.

    Recommended?

I would definitely buy and use this again! This is such a fun bath product to use, can be used more than once and left my skin feeling so good. AND very affordable for a handmade product too! So not only would I repurchase this I would recommend this to those who want a moisturising and pampering treat for the body.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem as if Bath Beauty Babe currently are making and selling their bath, body and skincare products. But if they do, be assured I will be stalking them for their Bath Pop!

  • Bath Beauty Babe’s Strawberry Cheesecake Sugar Body Scrub

Instagram will be the death of me! There is nothing worse than a visual platform throwing pictures in my face of bath and body products. It literally is a shop front window living in my phone screen! Temptation getting the better of me, I made an order from a Manchester based small business called Bath Beauty Babe (formally known as Jenny Makes For You). One of the products I ordered was Strawberry Cheesecake Sugar Body Scrub which was on sale for £5.10 instead of £8.50.

    Why did I buy this?

I’ve had my eye on this vendor’s products for ages. I needed a body scrub so this being on sale was timed perfectly. The look of this, the name, the scent description hooked me in 110%.

    What does this do?

This is a sugar based scrub with cocoa butter and coconut oil. These ingredients will provide a hardworking body scrub, while moisturising the skin during and after use.

Bath Beauty Babe’s Strawberry Cheesecake Sugar Body Scrub
    Packaging

240g of scrub comes in a lidded plastic tub. The labelling is fun and the tub itself is clear so you can see what pampering product is in it.

    Hoes does this look?

It LOOKS just like a cheesecake! If you look at the side of the packaging you can see two distinctive layers. You have the base which colour and texture wise looks just like the biscuit base of a cheesecake, and the top layer same texture but pink in colour. So when I took off the lid, of course this is a scrub, so the pink section isn’t whipped or cream like but a jam packed scrub which was identical to the bottom.

    Texture

Lots and lots of very fine grains. Think of caster sugar consistency. Its not a totally dry sugar scrub as I could feel a light coating of some sort, but it doesn’t sit in a pot full of oil and grease.

    Fragrance

Strawberry Cheesecake Sugar Body Scrub has two layers to it and two different fragrances. The top layer is fruity, strawberry/berry like and sweet but not sickly. The bottom layer has a light citrus, orange hint to it with a little vanilla. This gives it a bakery type of scent which makes this scrub not only look like a cheesecake but smell similar to one too!

    In the shower

I used this scrub on wet skin while in the shower. I used enough to cover three fingertips and applied it to the top half of my body. Then delved in for a little more for the rest of me. It spread over my skin easily, and I could feel the grains of sugar working against it providing an exfoliating action. The scent was there which I loved, and made this a pleasure not a chore.

    On the skin

After I applied this, I had a bath ready to slip into, so I could gently rinse this off. Once it was off I was surprised how soft and silky my skin felt. My skin felt very moisturised as if some form of light oil had been applied to it. Once my body was dried, it still felt silky soft, highly moisturised but not greasy. I could even detect the fragrance on my skin too which was very light but still delicious.

    Recommended?

This is a beautiful scrub. The look of it is fun, the fragrance is mouth watering but it’s still a hard working product. It does everything you want a scrub to do and is enjoyable to use. These combined mean I would buy this again in a heartbeat! This is one of those products which is a great treat for yourself or perfect for gift giving.

Fancy this body scrub in your shopping basket? It’s currently available on the website for £8.50.

  • The Luxurious Warm Vanilla Body Scrub From The Body Shop

Most of us have at least one scent that’s special to us. Mine is vanilla. I adore it! It’s warming, it’s moreish and it brings back memories of when I was younger, covering myself in vanilla body oil and spray from The Body Shop. My love for vanilla isn’t going away, so I was beyond happy to receive Warm Vanilla Body Scrub by The Body Shop (funnily enough) as a birthday present from a friend.

The Body Shop’s Warm Vanilla Scrub
    Packaging

250g of product lives in a clear pot, with a beautiful labelled lid with pictures of vanilla pods and flowers dotted over it. Very festive in look with added silver detailing. How this is presented is very pleased on the eye.

    How does it look?

The colour of this scrub looks like honey, or liquid caramel or toffee. It looks so rich and resembles something you could eat. You can just about see its not totally smooth in consistency as it looks a little grainy.

    Fragrance

There’s no mistaking this is vanilla! Warm, sweet and comforting. At the same time there is a slight muskiness in this with a faint floral scent as well. This isn’t your typical sugary, synthetic vanilla fragrance, it’s absolutely delightful.

    Texture & Consistency

There are lots of grains in this scrub, but not so much where you feel its solid. They are perfectly sized grains of sugar which are living happily in an almost serum like oil. Its not a sloppy mixture, its easy to take what you need and apply to the body but loose enough to move freely over the skin.

    In Use

Some scrubs I would apply on damp skin this I didn’t. I wanted to feel and enjoy the oiliness of this product direct onto dry skin. This was applied to my whole body. The grains in the scrub didn’t feel harsh but definitely did the job you would expect from this type of product. The scent made the process enjoyable adding to my pampering experience. Using this scrub was relaxing, it felt like a touch of luxury and was a pleasure to use.

    After Use

My skin felt super soft after using Warm Vanilla Body Scrub. It didn’t feel or look dry but was moisturised and slightly scented. No irritation occurred, which is very important ( I’m a psoriasis sufferer and all the naughty foods and drinks I ate over Christmas has really caught up on my skin! ).

    My Top Tip

To get the most out of this scrub and upgrade it from an exfoliator to more of a treatment, don’t rinse this off but slip into the bath straight after its been applied. Your skin will thank you for it for creating a mini bath soak.

    Recommended?

This product is heavenly! I really can’t praise this scrub enough. If you are a vanilla lover like me, you will automatically love this. If you love your body scrubs in general you will love this as it’s a fantastic, pampering scrub that does what its supposed to do and more.
