  • A Hidden Range in Superdrug Featuring Beauty Laundrette’s EDT

Subconsciously I think I’m having a beauty clear out. Rather than letting my beauty purchases pile up and multiply in a cupboard I’m actually using stuff! One type of product I’m using up is fragrances. I have lots and lots of body mists, sprays and a few eau de toilettes floating around. Dependant on the time, day and my mood, I will gravitate towards at least one. One eau de toilette I’ve been using for the last few days has been from a range I don’t online a lot is Beauty Laundrette. Originally bought from Superdrug when on sale. Originally priced at £8.00, I purchased this for £4.00 containing 95ml.

    Beauty Laundrette’s EDT
    Why did I buy this?

It was a range from Superdrug that was new to me, the packaging looked fun and I wanted to try as many products from the range as possible. Their products were regularly on a special price promotion, and that was the perfect time to try out sheet masks, body lotion, bath fizzers and this fragrance at an affordable price.

    Packaging

This comes in a chunky, rectangular shaped glass bottle with a spray top which is lidded. The bottle itself is plain, void of any detail and because of this has quite a masculine and slightly cheap appearance to it. The bottle did come with a red foam covering which is very tactile and interesting to look at. But the overall appearance of this fragrance doesn’t quite match up with the look of other items in the range in my opinion.

    How does this smell?

This is quite a clean and fresh fragrance. I get florals in this but more so white florals, even blossom, which are less heavy and possibly less old fashioned compared to something like rose. Feminine and slightly uplifting. It’s a pleasant scent, it’s not strong and would suit anyone of any age who chose to wear this. Probably more of a daytime fragrance and would make an ideal scent to use during Spring.

    Strength & Longevity

When applied, the strength of this comes across as a medium because it’s not strong but not weak either. But I find I apply quite a lot of this per application, and even then it’s not particularly punchy. Longevity I think could be better. I’ve had to apply this many times to get my wanted fragrance hit in that moment. Both strength and longevity needs to be turned up a notch to make this fragrance stand out more.

    Recommended?

I like the scent of this fragrance. But what I was hoping for, because it’s not a body mist and it’s an eau de toilette, is for this to be stronger and quite long lasting. White floral based fragrances I find aren’t the heaviest of scents but I expected more from this. Why? I’ve used the body mist version of this and they are identical in scent and hardly any difference in strength. Packaging could be better too. The bottle without the sleeve lacks the same imagination as other products in the range which is disappointing. But would I recommend this? Get the body mist instead. There’s no real difference except how the mist is packaged which is prettier and easier on the eye.

I’m not too sure whether Superdrug is still selling this fragrance because I can’t find it on the site. But it’s worthwhile keeping an eye out for it instore. But I would still go for the mist!

  • Fragranced or Fragrance Free? Primark’s PS Elderflower Shower Steamer

There’s lots of products consumers can buy to add into their bath these days. Bath soaks, body washes, bath truffles, bath bombs…the list goes on and on. But what’s available for the shower? Of course, you can grab the typical shower gels if you want to clean and wash your body. But is there anything else that’s a bit different to this norm? Shower steamers! This is a product that’s been available for a few years, and can be bought from Primark. I picked up their Elderflower Shower Steamer from my local store for £1.50 a few months ago.

    Primark PS Elderflower Shower Steamer
    Why did I buy this?

I like the idea of shower steamers. Showers are taken just as much as baths in my household so it’s a nice product to use once in awhile. While looking at Primark’s bath bombs and bubble bars, I saw this and I was curious to find out how well this performed. For £1.50 it was definitely worth a try so I bought it.

    What is a shower steamer?

A shower steamer looks and acts similarly to a bath bomb. You pop it on the floor of your shower/bath tub, and as the water and heat from the shower react to it it releases fragrance. Not for use on the body but should provide a lovely aroma while you’re in the shower.

    Packaging

A Summery coloured flat squared cardboard box in shades of yellow, green and blue. An open window on the front shows you what’s inside.

    How does this look?

Primark’s shower steamer is square, flat and quite chunky in look. Decent size of over 0.5 inches in depth and 3 inches across. Although square, you can see this is segmented into two triangles and this is where you break half of it off to use. The colouring I thought was promising till I took it out of the box. On the front there are splashes of yellow, green and blue but mostly surrounded by a white base. Turn this over and it’s completely white. I thought it would be more colourful and eye catching overall.

    Fragrance

All I could smell was a chalkiness to this shower steamer when I took it out of the box. Is there another fragrance? It’s not totally void of a scent but whatever it is it’s not describable or strong. Even when not in use I would hope this shower steamer would reek of a scent. But nothing special scent wise came out of it.

    In the shower

I put half of this on the bottom of my bath tub while I had my early morning shower before work. And what did I get? Nothing! No waft of fragrance. I was hoping for something to whack me in the face to wake me up, but nothing. So I moved the shower steamer around to make sure some of the water from the shower hit it. All I could see was it getting smaller as it disintegrated but saw no colour or smelt any fragrance. I picked up what was left and gave it a sniff, and I could smell the tiniest hint of fragrance but honestly it was so faint and not even worth mentioning.

    Recommended?

No! This shower steamer was poor. All it needed to do was provide fragrance which it failed big time. Whatever you think elderflower will smell like it doesn’t conjure up the idea of a strong scent. But regardless, there NEEDS to be a scent with a product like this and there wasn’t. The shape was good, the look could have been a bit little more colourful but the packaging was fine. But the lack of fragrance makes this something I would bypass in my local Primark store never to repeat purchase again!

  • Momento’s Salt On My Skin Eau de Toilette

Who doesn’t love a designer fragrance? I understand why they are desirable, but the price point isn’t appealing to me! So I love trying out fragrances that aren’t well known, hopefully they smell nice AND be kind to my credit card. I purchased a few gift sets from Boots online ages ago including one that contained Momento’s Salt On My Skin Eau de Toilette. The gift set was half price and cost me £15.00. On it’s own it’s £12.00 for 50ml.

Momento’s Salt On My Skin Eau De Toilette
    Why did I buy this?

I look at less known brands for a few reasons. I like scents that aren’t instantly recognisable and not the norm scent wise and they are more affordable compared to designer fragrances. This is why I bought this, along with other sets, when Boots had an online sale.

    Packaging

This fragrance comes in a clear, glass, rectangular bottle. The lid is small, cylinder shaped, but rather than it being smooth all around it’s faceted. What I like about this is it’s simplicity. You can’t go wrong with a fragrance that’s presented in a basic, simple and crisp way.

    How Does This Smell?

When I first smelt this I immediately liked it! The best way I can describe this smells is it’s a clean, fresh, floral with a touch of salt. The floral mixed in with delicate fruity undertones puts this into a pretty, feminine catchment.

    Strength & Longevity

I apply this directly onto my uniform in the morning, and I never get the chance to reapply this during the day. This isn’t strong, or at least not on me. I find this to be very soft in strength although lovely on the nose. This fragrance wasn’t noticeable much as I wore it during the day. Longevity wise it’s hard to comment on if the fragrance wasn’t that noticeable in the first place! So for me, strength and longevity are quite low. How this behaves if on the skin I don’t know unfortunately.

    Recommended?

I wanted to LOVE this fragrance! The actual smell of this is great and slightly unusual, so stands out for me. Although some people love subtle fragrances strength wise this was just too soft for my nose and how I like my fragrances to be. I’ve layered this with other fragrances which has created some great scent combos, and worn this on it’s own. But it just doesn’t pack enough of a punch! Considering this is an EDT and not a body mist, I’m a little disappointed. So I wouldn’t recommend this if you need your fragrance to be obvious. If you like the sound of how this smells try out their body mist as it’s half the price of this so save yourself some money.

  • February Reviews Round Up, What Did I Use From My Stash?

If this year continues to fly by as quick as it has the last few months, it will be Christmas in the blink of an eye! Honestly, it really is galloping at 100mph. As much as I would like things to slow down a little, I am excited to see what unfolds in the near future. But for now, I want to have a quick look at the products I used and reviewed in the month of February, ready for the next batch of products I will get my hands to try out in the month of March.

Dirty Fresh Cosmetics Fairy Godmother Bath Bar

It would be highly unusual if I hadn’t used and enjoyed a bath bomb or bar in any month let alone last month! Dirty Fresh Cosmetics Fairy Godmother Bath Bar was enjoyable to use, relaxing and created a beautiful looking bath. I haven’t been disappointed by their bath bars yet!

Superdrug’s Artiscent Atelier Marine Riche Eau de Parfum

My first time using the Superdrug’s own fragrance range, and most certainly will not be the last! This is a men’s fragrance, but don’t worry, it can be used and loved by anyone if you like typical masculine notes in fragrance. I actually use this most days layered alongside other fragrances I have, and it smells amazing!

Superdrug’s Artiscent Marine Riche Eau de Parfum
    Primark’s PS Strawberry Bubble Bar

Not everyone can or wants to spend up to £7.00 on a bubble bar from the high street (you know where I’m talking about!). If you want to spend less than £2.00 for a cute looking bubble bar, head to Primark! Was it the most amazing bath product I’ve ever used? No. But affordable, pleasant and would make someone smile if given as a small gift.

Simple’s 5 Minute Reset Hydrogel Mask

Skincare face masks are not a magic wand to skincare problems, but they can provide some instant pampering and short term positives such as hydration. This skincare face mask from Simple I didn’t think I would like it so much, but I really did! Lovely on the skin, very relaxing and hydrated my skin brilliantly.

Primark’s PS Balm To Oil Cleanser

Primark isn’t a place just to buy underwear and leggings. It’s worthwhile having a look at their skincare range too. Their balm to oil cleanser, for £3.00, is a great introduction to this type of cleanser. It did it’s job, easy to use and great for dry skin.

Holler And Glow’s Beauty and the Shell Bath Soak

Not a typical looking bath fizzer. Didn’t behave like any old bath bomb. Super pretty and I enjoyed using this. I can’t wait to try other versions from this range. Yet again, another interesting find from Superdrug.

Holler and Glow Bath Soak Bath Fizzers
Garnier Moisture Bomb Eye Tissue Mask

Everyone seems to head towards a full face skincare mask. But how many people grab the eye versions? Garnier have different versions of their eye tissue masks. This wasn’t my favourite in all honesty, but it was fun to use and super cooling on the skin.

    Mini Aldi Haul

Love Aldi! Over the last couple of years I’ve enjoyed seeing and trying their own ranges in skincare, body care, bath and body and home fragrance. Why? The price, the quality and the cheeky dupe thrown in for good measure is worth a buy and try.

    Aldi goodies!

So that’s what I’ve got up to in February 2022. Products tried, reviewed and opinion formed. What’s in store for March? I guess you have to keep reading this blog to find out….
