  • August’s Round Up, What Products Did I Use?

Another month comes and another month is about to go. In a blink of an eye, dare I say it, I will be writing about Christmas inspired bath products and Winter scented home fragrances! But focusing on firstly August, here is a round up of the products I used during this month.

    August’s products
Glow’s Oat, Milk, Honey & Lavender Bath Soak

An ideal bath time treat for those who want a different kind of bathing experience. Glow’s Oat, Milk, Honey & Lavender Bath Soak is perfect for those who love botanical infused products. Immerse yourself in relaxing lavender and soothe joints in a mini sea of magnesium. Perfect for a weekly pampering session (or more) if you can indulge in you time for 20 minutes or more in the bath tub.

    Aldi’s Lacura Moisturising Face Wash

Yet again Aldi’s Lacura skincare range are throwing products at us that are functional and affordable, like their Moisturising Face Wash. For 99p this is an effective cleanser that has been used by myself and both of my children and has done the job of cleansing our skin perfectly.

    Primark’s PS Skin Eye Roller

A great tool for the under eye that would work nicely with a daily skincare routine is Primark’s PS Skin Eye Roller. Quick and easy to use, soothing on the skin and a great way to give the under eye a pick me up if and when needed.

Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive SPF30 Sun Protection Lotion

Something many people haven’t been grabbing (but should) during the month of August is a sun protection product. Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive SPF30 Sun Protection Lotion is budget friendly product, good for all the family to use but those with darker skin tones will need to work this product into the skin a little more than others.

    Glow’s Defence Moisturiser

Glow’s Defence Moisturiser, which I received in their July Subscription Box, is a great body moisturiser. Cooling, moisturising but light weight. Perfect to use in a rush or you don’t want thick textured body products.

Sunday Rain’s Mango & Coconut Foaming Bubble Bar

A good quality bath product in the form of Sunday Rain’s Mango & Coconut Foaming Bubble Bar. Good size, numerous baths can be taken with this and it foams up fabulously! I just wish it was more fragrant and moisturising.

Simple’s Illuminating Under Eye Hydrogel Mask

Simple’s Illuminating Under Eye Hydrogel Mask is on my repeat purchase list. Easy and comfortable to use, well made, freshens up the under eye area (even if it’s subtle) and widely available on the high street.

So that’s August 2023’s round up completed. Did you have any products that you used which you loved this month?

  • Budget Friendly Face Facts Hydrating Eye Cream

Let’s talk eye creams. Like any skincare product on the market, there’s loads of them! I struggle to choose one and be confident that the one I’ve purchased is right for me. And isn’t an eye cream just a more expensive and smaller version of a face cream anyway? So many products, questions and confusion for such a small pot or tube no wonder I struggle. Anyway, a few months ago I purchased Face Facts Hydrating Eye Cream from Home Bargains, for the ridiculously cheap price of 49p for 25ml.

    Face Facts Hydrating Eye Cream
    Why did I buy this?

I needed a new eye cream. I hadn’t used one for awhile as I’ve been taking my face cream up to my eyes and I decided no, I’m not doing that again! I’ve used Face Fact’s Ceramide Facial Wash and really liked it, so I was happy to buy something else from the brand. When you get older anything hydrating is a must (which this claims to be), the size of this is generous (normally eye products are 15ml not 25ml) and the price was a steal, so it needed to be bought!

What is this supposed to do?

Face Facts Hydrating Eye Cream is aimed at making the under eye area look less tired, puffy, be more moisturised and overall give a more ‘alive’ look.

    Packaging

25ml of eye cream comes in a small, blue and white tube. This comes boxed. It’s not flash in look but easy enough on the eye and quite neutral in appearance, so one that would appeal to both the guys and the girls.

    Texture & Fragrance

Face Facts Hydrating Eye Cream is white in colour and quite rich in it’s consistency. When I squeezed this out of the tube it held it’s shape. Similar in texture to a rich night cream as this isn’t runny or loose. This is a fragranced. It’s not strong but smells floral and fresh. I don’t mind it, it’s nice enough, but I would prefer this to be fragrance free,

    Under the eye

All eye cream products suggest to use a small amount and this is no exception. I didn’t need to use too much because it’s a rich texture but it dabbed beautifully into the skin. It felt very comforting immediately, moisturising and protecting. It didn’t leave any residue behind. My under eyes felt moisturised but matt in look and feel. Did they look any fresher? I’ve been using this for under 2 weeks morning and night. I don’t particularly suffer from dark circles and my eyes haven’t really been puffy. But they have been well moisturised without feeling weighed down.

    Recommended?

We all have to be realistic with our expectations for skincare. I don’t pick up products anymore thinking it will give me a real life filter on my face. But Face Facts Hydrating Eye Cream firstly is bigger than a lot of eye creams on the market. Beautifully rich in texture that sinks in quickly but still leaves the under eyes moisturised. Perfect for those whose under eyes are dry, or dare I say are a little on the older side. This cost 49p which isn’t an everyday price and not a regular stock item in Home Bargains. But direct from Face Facts still is budget pleasing £1.49! Why would I NOT recommend this?

  • Simple’s Illuminating Under Eye Hydrogel Mask

Skincare isn’t always a magic wand that can banish all skin problems. Some products take time to improve the skin and others are designed to be quick fix for a problem or concern. Once you know which products are going to give you an instant help or be a long term problem solver, choosing the right products for the right job is a little easier. One skincare quick fix that’s been in my skincare stash for awhile is Simple’s Illuminating Under Eye Hydrogel Mask. I can’t remember where I bought this from but it was no more than £1.00.

Simple’s Illuminating Under Eye Hydrogel Mask
    Why did I buy this?

I bought this because I like Simple as a brand and enjoy using their products. I’m also a sucker for any eye product. This is an area of my face that can always do with a little pick me up which I thought this product potentially could do.

What are these supposed to do?

These under eye masks are designed to be used on an area that looks tired, dull and lack lustre. In fact, it states that in 5 minutes dark circles should look less severe and overall the under eye should look smoother, more healthier and vibrant.

    How to use

Place under the eye and leave on for 5 minutes. Use once or twice a week.

    How do these look?

Simple’s Under Eye Hydrogel Mask is the same sort of shape as most eye masks are. It follows the shape of the under eye area and gets wider towards the cheek bones. These under eye masks are clear, jelly like and smooth but holds their shape while not being solid.

    In use

First thing I noticed with these eye masks is they were the perfect thickness. Not too thick that they were rigid and not too floppy where I struggled to handle them. Placing them under my eyes was refreshing (in more ways than one). The other under eye masks I’ve used in the past needed to be positioned a little. These went straight under the eye, almost moulding under it and stayed in place. I also noticed these totally flattened the skin under my eyes. My usual lines had been pushed out and looked less visible underneath them. Very comfortable to wear and very cooling on the skin too.

    After use

Taking these off I did wonder if there was any change. I didn’t expect any, but I’m sure my under eyes did looked a touch fresher and less tired than they appeared before wearing them. Not a massive difference but enough for me to be happy with what I saw. How effective these are on dark circles I don’t know as it’s not an issue I suffer from.

    Recommended?

How comfortable these under eye masks sat on the face, the quality of them and the cooling sensation are reasons I would recommend these. They are a simple way to pamper the face and popped in the fridge will really help wake up the eye area if needed. But the fact I noticed a slightly better look under the eyes, even if temporary, is making me need to buy a few more for future use! And it always helps these are easily available on the high street from stores such as Boots, various supermarkets and discount stores. Affordable, easy and enjoyable to use and they actually do something!

  • Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive SPF30 Sun Protection Lotion

Sun creams and lotion aren’t the most interesting or exciting products when it comes to skin and body care, but they are important! They protect our skin from the damage that the sun can cause in the form of sunburn, ageing, dry skin and the more serious health issues such as skin cancer. So I always have one form of sun cream or lotion in my household that we all can use from top to toe. The latest one to sit in our bathroom is Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive SPF30 Fragrance Free Sun Protection Lotion. This cost £3.20 for 200ml.

Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive SPF30 Fragrance Free Sun Protection Lotion
    Why did I buy this?

I bought this because the previous one we were using wasn’t available, so I needed an alternative. The branded ones were too expensive. It would be a costly mistake to pick one up and find that it didn’t agree with our skin and then have to buy a different one to replace it. So I opted for this at a lower price point. The fact Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive seemed ideal for sensitive skin was exactly what I wanted in regards to applying on my children. So sold!

What are the key points to this sun protection?

Tesco’s Soleil Sensitive has a high SPF of 30. It’s fragrance free and actually designed for sensitive skin. It provides both UVA and UVB protection (these are two different forms of radiation which can cause skin damage). This sun lotion is also water resistant. This means that it will still remain effective while the skin is wet e.g due to sweating, swimming, for a certain amount of time before the need to reapply.

    Packaging

200ml comes in a flip bottomed white tube. It looks very simple and clean in appearance. It’s not flash but it’s practical and looks like a sun protection product.

    Consistency

White in colour and looks very body lotion like but holds it shape. It’s not runny but liquid enough for application.

    On the skin

I found the texture of this to be very similar to a standard body lotion, but the more it rubbed into my skin the less ‘silky’ it felt. It really did need to be rubbed in thoroughly, and I found more so if I applied it over another product e.g body lotion. It felt less smooth and a little more resistant to the rubbing in action. Colour wise, it’s important to mention my skin is brown. So I could see this giving my skin a white/almost purple tint to it. But this did disappear once rubbed in but it took a little work to do.

On my skin, both face and body, it didn’t give a 100% natural look to it colour wise. But if I’m honest I don’t think it was noticeable to anyone else. Around the hair line needed a bit more attention to rub in but overall I had no issues with how this made my skin look. It looked moisturised but not greasy and it felt it too.

I haven’t noticed any staining on my clothing. No irritation to my already irritated skin (thanks to the heat), and my children have been able to apply it to themselves and they haven’t moaned or look like they’ve colour changed.

    Recommended?

Compared to my previous sun protection (Garnier Ambre Solaire Kids Sensitive Advanced), this was more hard work to rub into the skin. It didn’t feel as glossy on the skin and also Garnier Ambre Solaire Kids Sensitive has a more moisturising feel and look on the skin. But for what this is, the size, the price point, the effectiveness (performs fine while out in the sun) it does the job. If you’re looking for a budget sun protection lotion it’s worthwhile considering. And this can be used for all of the family. But be prepared to put your hands to work a little bit, especially if your colouring isn’t light!

A very affordable sun protection product that is decent in quality.
