  • September’s Round Up. What Products Did I Use?

September really was (and still is) an up and down month. Very busy with the new school year kicking in, crazy weather (please no more heatwaves!) and all festive occasions being thrown at us all at once! During all the madness as usual I have still managed to try out and enjoy products new to me, ranging from skin and body care to home fragrance. So what products did I use in September?

    Products I Used In September
    Lotus Flower Soap By LUSH

My first soap from LUSH, which was given to me by a friend, was Lotus Flower. This was such a lovely product to use in both the shower and the bath. It was fragrant, it cleaned the skin on my body so well without drying it out. The biggest surprise was how moisturised my skin felt AFTER use!

Glow’s Pick Your Own Wax Melts From August’s Subscription Box

Glow’s Pick Your Own Wax Melts from their August Subscription Box was gifted to me by the owner of Glow Angela. These wax melts were absolutely STUNNING! Not only in fragrance but also with how they looked. Massive sizes, each fragrance was perfectly chosen for the August subscription box theme with each slab (yes they were that big!) providing hours and hours of fragrance for the home.

Dove’s Nourishing Body Care Beauty Cream

An everyday brand I should really look at more thanks to Dove’s Nourishing Body Care Beauty Cream. A neutral and comforting fragranced body cream that was moisturising, nourishing yet left my skin matt after use.

Crafting In The Dark’s Levi 501’s Jelly Wax

As much as I love wax melts, my wax pieces only differ in fragrance, colour, size and shapes. Crafting In The Dark’s Levi 501’s Jelly Wax was totally different texture wise but still provided a good quality fragrance. And the clean up after I finished melting it was not only easy and quick but very satisfying too!

Garnier SkinActive’s Pure Charcoal Black Tissue Mask

I go through phases when it comes to using skincare tissue facemasks. But when my skin needs a little quick pick me up, I grab one. Garnier SkinActive’s Pure Charcoal Black Tissue Mask was fun and easy to use and provided the hydration my skin needed at the time.

Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub By LUSH

My second LUSH product this month came in the form of Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub. Again, given to me by a friend (I have some really sweet friends!), this was my first body scrub from LUSH and probably won’t be my last! A fresh and slightly citrus fragrance which most people would love, vibrantly blue in colour and left my skin feeling soft and smooth.

    Freeman’s Pre-Party Mask Duo

My favourite and cheapest skincare mask (and moisturizer) I’ve bought and used over the Summer. This made my skin look the great in a normal kind of way. My skin looked fresh, it looked smooth and it looked healthy. All for 67p!

Which product was my favourite? That’s a tough one because they were all so different. But I would be happy to use ALL of these products again so none of them were a disappointment.

  • Lotus Flower Soap By LUSH

Soap is such an underrated body care product. It’s not as fun as a bath bomb, not as versatile as a shower or bath gel, it’s just a bar of soap. Designed to clean the body and not particularly interesting? But not all soaps are boring, white in colour and smell like freshly washed laundry. I was recently given Lotus Flower Soap by LUSH from a friend and decided to put to one side my usual bar and swapped it for this. This retails for £6.00 for 100g.

    Lotus Flower Soap by LUSH
    Why did I use this?

LUSH as a brand are probably more known for bath bombs and bubble bars, and not so much for soap. Or at least that’s what comes to my mind when I think about them. So I was intrigued and wondered what this would be like. Would I enjoy using this and would it deliver in the same way other products from LUSH do?

What does Lotus Flower Soap do?

Lotus Flower Soap isn’t designed to just clean the skin, but it also exfoliates it and moisturises it too. Containing rice bran oil, cocoa butter and coconut oil, this should be a practical cleansing item that removes dirt but not take away the skin’s natural oils.

    How does it look?

Like many products from LUSH, this has a handmade look and feel to it. Not perfectly rectangular, but this is a flat, pink coloured sliced bar of soap. There are tiny dark coloured speckles in this dotted through randomly which I assume gives the exfoliating action.

    Fragrance

This smells floral but in an almost sweetie like way. It’s as if someone has mixed together flower heads with a little sugar, berries and sweeties! I personally like how this smells because it’s not a heavy ‘just floral’ scent but a blend of other things making this a fun and almost mouth watering fragrance.

    In the shower

I used this soap in two ways. The first I rubbed this directly onto damp skin. It created a little foam but I would call it foam and not bubbles. I could feel the grains in the soap on my skin, but only slightly. So not enough in the soap to give a true exfoliation. I also noticed that the bar was a little on the soft side. Was it due to it not being particularly thick? Or made this way? Not too sure. But it did make me cautious when using this as I didn’t want it to break.

The second time I used this was much better. I rubbed it into a damp sponge which then went onto my body. It created beautifully creamy and rich foam which glided over my body and was pleasurable to use. The fragrance was there too but softly which I appreciated. Easy to rinse off and left my skin feeling very clean and fresh.

My skin after coming out of the shower didn’t feel dry it actually felt very moisturised, as if I had already used a light body lotion. And my skin was lightly fragranced too.

    Recommended?

Lotus Flower Soap by Lush looks and smells great. It does what you need it to do in regards to cleaning the skin on the body. I didn’t expect it to be as moisturising, which I loved. Overall I really enjoyed using this product. £6.00 isn’t something everyone would want to spend on a soap but if you do I would recommend it. What I wouldn’t do is think this will exfoliate. It’s not a scrub, it provides more of a tickle, so you would need a different product to do that. But I’m very impressed with this and glad I got a chance to try it out!

  • Was The LUSH Sale Worth It?

When most people think of bath bombs they automatically think of the shop LUSH. And rightly so. They’ve built up a successful business based on bath time treats which are colourful, fragrant and for many people totally addictive. Are they the cheapest? No. But they are the most well known. So could I resist their Boxing Day sale a few weeks ago which consisted of half price bath, body and shower products? Nope!

My Boxing Day purchases from LUSH
    What did I buy?

I ordered online as I wasn’t queuing outside the store as if I was in Disneyland Paris (been there done that!). Stock levels changed every time I went to their site but persistence is the key and I kept checking and finally go my order in. I bought 15 items in total, but one was a gift set which included 6 full sized products. So all in all I purchased 20 items which included 1 soap, 7 bubble bars and 12 bath bombs which included:

    Snow Bear Soap

An adorable bear shaped soap that smells of marzipan. I bought this for a friend who will be celebrating a birthday soon, but not sure she will get it now as I like this!

    Snow Bear Soap
    Labyrinth Bubble Bar

Interesting and unusual shape and design, bold in colour with lots and lots of shimmer! Smells very fruity.

    Labyrinth Bubble Bar
    Sleepy Bubble Bar

I bought 3 of these because I love bubble bars! Cloud shaped, multi coloured and another sweetly fragranced piece. But this is more sweet herbal in the form of lavender.

    Sleepy Bubble Bar
    Sleepy Bear Bath Bomb

I bought 4 of these because I’ve had this one before (read my review here), loved it and needed more! Even better half price. This has the same scent as the Sleepy Bubble Bar which is a sweet Lavender type fragrance.

    Sleepy Bear Bath Bomb
    Crystal Snow Bath Bomb

This is more of a traditional shaped bath bomb with the addition of a crystal like topping. Minty in scent but in the packet of chewie mints type of smell not fresh mint out of the garden fragrance.

    Crystal Snow Bath Bomb
    Gift Horse Bath Bomb

For some reason this reminds me of an orange version of Donkey from Shrek! Fun appearance, good size and smells a little floral with a zestiness to it.

    Gift Horse Bath Bomb
    Snow Dragon Bath Bomb

I grabbed 2 of these. And why wouldn’t I if they worked out at £1.75 each?? This has a citrus scent to it, probably lemon. Very fresh but like the other items in my LUSH order has a sweetness to it.

    Snow Dragon Bath Bomb
    Snowman Finger Puppet Bath Bomb

This is a simple in look bath bomb but totally adorable. I like the idea of it being a finger puppet but when I get the chance to, this is just getting thrown in the bath! This is another minty bath bomb in scent but different to Crystal Snow Bath Bomb.

    Snowman Finger Puppet Bath Bomb
    Christmas Candy Box Gift

I’ve not opened this yet. I’m still trying to work out how I’m going to store all the above without housing them in the massive box it came in, so left this in it’s packaging. This contains a Candy Cane Bubble Bar, Snow Fairy Wand Bubble Blower, Snow Fairy Bath Bomb, Creamy Candy Bubble Bar, Butterbear Bath Bomb and a Sweet Pudding Bath Bomb.

    Christmas Candy Gift Box
    What did I spend?

A total of £45.50. Yes yes…that’s a decent chunk of money for things that fizz in the bath. But divide that amount by 20 and each piece cost £2.27..BARGAIN!

    Recommended?

LUSH only has one sale a year. The chances of me buying anything in the store in general is very slim unless it was a special occasion e.g my birthday. But waiting for this event, putting to one side a little bit of money to have a splurge is definitely something I would recommend. If you are a LUSH fan and/or a lover of bath bombs I would wait for their ultimate sale and save yourself lots of money.

  • Christmas 2021 Bath Blaster & Soap Advent Calendar From Bomb Cosmetics

I think it’s safe to say we are all well and truly done with Christmas. For most it’s been a quiet one and hopefully a good one too. The aftermath of the weekend is still visible in my house. And when I can muster some strength I will perform some cleaning and storage magic to make it seem Christmas never existed. But not right now, too tired. While the memories are still fresh I thought I would finish off my thoughts on the second advent calendar I purchased for this Christmas. The first was from Fragrantasia, and the second one from Bomb Cosmetics.

Bomb Cosmetics Bath Blaster & Soap Advent Calendar
Bomb Cosmetics Bath Blaster & Soap Advent Calendar.

I’ve never had a bath product based advent calendar before and considering how much I love my baths, I’m wondering why! So when I saw this pop up on Amazon I thought why not? Priced just over £10.00, it was very affordable and worth the risk of purchasing.

    The Look.

Simple yet eye catching. I think its down to the bright almost purple pink colour of this which makes this pop. White detailing on each door finishes the look off. This would appeal to a younger market definitely.

    What Did I Get?

24 doors with either mini soaps or bath blasters (bath bombs) behind them. Each piece different in regards to fragrance and/or look. The majority of scents these items had were what I would call normal and everyday with a few being more Christmas based. Things that were included were Jelly & Custard Bath Blaster, Electric Dreams Soap, Free Spirit Soap, Cotton Fresh Soap and Pineapple Expressed Bath Blaster.

    Caiperina Soap

The Soaps. All rectangular in shape, with some being slightly different sized than others. All semi translucent (except one), so you could see some form of shape/pattern in the middle of it. Different colours such as blue, pink, pale green, darker green etc, so these made them look fun and interesting.

    Cherry Bathewell Blaster

Fragrance. All of the soaps had one thing in common when it came to how they smelt, they all smelt clean and fresh. Slight differences I could smell, such as one being citrusy with lime. One was a touch sweet and floral, one was fruity etc. All fragrances were pleasant, none were offensive and not powerful. But they did have enough strength for the fragrance to ‘be there’. I did feel the fragrances could have been more different and varied. After awhile they started to smell the same and didn’t stand out too much. Some warming or more festive fragrances would have been greatly received but there weren’t any.

    Lime & Dandy Soap

In The Shower. In reality having 12 soaps in a calendar is hard to get through and quite wasteful if trying to use one a day. So many of these, if I’m honest, are still living in the calendar. What I have used still had the fragrance detectable in the shower. Lathering up could have been much better. I expected more lather and for it to be creamier but it wasn’t. Did it clean my skin? Yes. But I felt it left an almost film like layer on my skin which made me use a shower gel to rinse myself off.

    Cleopatra’s Desire Blaster

Bath Blasters. All shaped the same which was a small and simple heart. All coloured differently e.g lilac, white, blue etc. But they were void of any other detail. No glitter, no shapes, nothing embossed.

Fragrance. There were a few that stood out to me such as the Fresh Berry Blaster. But if I’m honest I wish they were more fragrant. Considering how small and plain these were I needed them to wow me at least scent wise but overall they didn’t. They didn’t to be stronger and have a bigger identity to them.

In The Bath. These fizzed a little and barely coloured the bath water. There was hardly any fragrance. No bubbles either, which in fairness I didn’t expect anyway. The problem with these were they were so small they didn’t make an impact. I even threw in 3 or 4 at a time and although created a bigger fizz still left me underwhelmed. Did I enjoy using these in the bath? Not really. It added nothing to my bath experience unfortunately.

Would I Buy This in 2022?

No. I didn’t enjoy this enough to grab for next year. The soaps should have produced a nicer lather and my skin should have felt fresh. It did neither. The bath blasters should have been more fragrant and add something special to my bath, which it didn’t. To make this calendar better, I would include better quality soaps. The bath blasters I would not keep as simple and have them be a mini version of their usual bath blasters. These would normally contain shea and cocoa butter which are more moisturising. Or for more decadence, swap the blaster for their melts with a higher percentage of cocoa and shea butter. These don’t really fizz but they would envelope the skin in a light oily goodness which is bliss!

This might be an ok advent for someone younger. But for me who lives in the bath, it doesn’t quite hit the mark. Christmas 2022 the search is on for a different bath and body advent.
