  • I’ve Started Christmas Shopping, What Did I Buy?

Love it or hate it, Christmas is coming! It happens at the same time every year. Some people like to be organised well in advance when it comes to purchasing gifts. Others are walking around shops wondering why they can’t get gonk covered wrapping paper on Christmas Eve. Which category do I fall into? I like to be prepared! Especially with how things are currently when it comes to the economy. So, have I bought anything yet? Maybe just a few things…

Aldi’s Lacura CBD Calming Tea Tree Sheet Mask

I know lots of people that love a sheet mask. I saw these in my latest visit to Aldi and couldn’t help noticing they were £1.99 down to 99p. Aldi’s skincare range is actually really good and perfect for those who are on a budget but want to buy quality lotions and potions. I’ve never used this mask before, in fact, never seen it before! But it will make a great addition to my collection of smaller gift items.

Better Homes & Gardens Wax Melts

I bought some of these a few weeks ago in Lemongrass & Ginger and absolutely loved them! Then I noticed they were available in another fragrance and I had to grab a few for my wax melt loving friends. Great scents, beautifully crafted and only 69p from Home Bargains.

Simple’s 5 Minute Reset Hydrogel Mask

One of the things I’m going to do is make up a little box of goodies for my daughter for Christmas. She’s into her fragrances and has started to use sheet masks. I’ve personally tried this one before and loved it, and for £1.69 in my local Tesco I thought this was perfect! She uses lots of products from the Simple range already, so I know they are kind to her skin, and I think she will enjoy using this.

    M&S Bath Fizzers

I found this by chance while giving up the will to live in August looking for school shoes for my children. Did I leave with school shoes? No. Did I leave with a handful of various shaped and scented bath fizzers? Yes! Originally each one was £3.50 and they had been reduced to 49p! BARGAIN!

    Lynx 12 Day Countdown Calendar

If anyone would have told me I would be buying my teenage son Lynx I would say they were having a laugh! The brand reminds me of high school. The boys would be drenched in the stuff, so I have a traumatic episode anytime I see the range. But my son likes the sprays. Is this a genetic thing that any young male MUST like Lynx? Anyway, I bought the 12 Day Countdown Calendar from Home Bargains because when I worked out the cost of each piece it’s actually cheaper to buy the set than individually (which is rare!). It includes 2 body sprays, 3 body washes, 1 antiperspirant, 1 pair of socks, nail clippers, travel bottle, charging cable, face cloth and comb. This was £6.99.

    Lynx 12 Day Countdown Calendar

So, this is me officially starting to buy for Christmas. Honestly? I don’t want to spend a fortune. When it comes to fragrance, bath, body or skincare I want to get smaller items and give as a selection to people which I think is nice and inexpensive. But I want these at the best prices which so far I’m doing quite well with!

What will be next on my to buy Christmas list? Wait..and..see..

  • Under £1.00? B Essentials Lemongrass & Ginger Botanical Infused Wax Melts

With the cost of living becoming more challenging, many of us are being more careful with what we spend our money on. It’s not nice when you feel you can’t or shouldn’t indulge in a bit of luxury or enjoy something that you normally like because of cost. But what if that item was super cheap? Could you get that little sense of pleasure without the price tag? This is where I can mention a recent wax melt purchase I made, which was incredibly affordable. I bought Better Homes & Gardens Lemongrass & Ginger Botanical Infused Wax Melts from Home Bargains for ….69p for 78g!

Better Homes & Gardens Lemongrass & Ginger Botanical Infused Wax Melts
    Why did I buy this?

I first saw the packaging and thought how attractive it looked, and then when I read it housed wax melts it was game over! Great and unusual packaging, good amount of wax melts weight wise and the fragrances I thought were so appealing, so I bought them!

    Packaging

I cannot tell you how cute I find the packaging of these because it’s not the usual way wax melts are presented. 10 wax melts live in a cardboard tub. The lid of this needs to be pulled off and there the wax melts are. It’s an eye catching sunshine yellow colour and looks very simple but quite traditional in a cute and not dated way.

    The Wax Melts

These are just adorable! These wax melts come in circular discs (slightly bigger than a £2.00 coin) with the letter B embossed on them. Cream in colour with what looks like dried herbs peeping through the wax. Yellow and orange in colour, so I’m guessing these are either lemongrass or ginger. Whatever these pieces are it makes these wax melts look very botanical, exceptionally pretty and very inviting.

    Fragrance

These wax melts are the perfect combination of lemongrass and ginger. It’s clean and fresh, with the sweet and uplifting scent of the lemongrass. You get that small hit of citrus but it’s not the same zest you get from lemon and not as harsh. There’s warmth and a touch of spice from the ginger. I couldn’t love this scent any more than what I do.

    In Melt

I popped two of these wax melts in my wax warmer which sits in my living room. Without it being turned on I could smell these. I thought these would melt super quick because of their size and thickness but these actually took quite a while. I suspect this was because of the fact they contained pieces of dried herbs. Either way they melted slowly and beautifully, filling the air with their gorgeous fragrance.

    Strength & Longevity

These wax melts are medium in strength. I suspect if they were in a smaller room possibly strong. What I loved about these was catching this fragrance while being in in a different room and not in the room these were melting in. Their cleanliness, the warming element. Totally inviting yet not too powerful. It just came across incredibly natural. Longevity is very good. I’ve melted the same two wax melts for hours and I still get the same fragrance and strength.

    Recommended?

I had a feeling these were special when I picked them up in store and had a quick sniff of them. But you can never be too sure what wax melts are like until you melt them. The quality of these is undeniable. They are packaged in an unassuming but attractive way. The look of these wax melts is beautiful, unusual and definitely screams ‘botanical’. But the most important thing is the fragrance is divine! Ideal for those who love their clean, fresh and citrusy scents. I just can’t fault these, and for the price these are an absolute steal! Recommended? YES! Not only for personal use but THE perfect gift to give a wax melt lover without breaking the bank, so buy a few. Hint hint…CHRISTMAS!

  • Glow’s Ruffles At The Palace August Wax Melt Subscription Box Part 2

I can’t be the only person who has struggled to melt wax this month. It’s been so warm, everything has been an energy zapper and overall it’s been a busy Summer! But I wanted, no I NEEDED to experience and hopefully enjoy the fragrances coming from the wax melts in Glow’s Ruffles At The Palace August Wax Melt Subscription Box I received a couple of weeks ago. So how did these pieces melt?

Glow’s Ruffles At The Palace August Wax Melt Subscription Box
    Once Upon A Time

I knew at first sniff I would love this because it has a fruity/sweetie like scent to it which I enjoy. This is a mix of fruits which gives it a mouth wateringly sweet scent. Tropical (pineapple), some citrus notes in here because I get a little zest and freshness in this. And berries. Absolutely delicious!

    Once Upon A Time
    Glass Slipper

This reminds me of a scent I’ve smelt before in wax but can’t put my finger on the scent name. But yet again another fragrance that is sweetly scented. Fruit is definitely at the forefront but doesn’t have the zest element that Once Upon A Time does. In fact, it has a creaminess to it that I think (and love) of when I smell anything containing vanilla.

    Glass Slipper
    Tale As Old As Time

Floral scented but not heavily floral. I suspect more white florals rather than coloured because of it’s intensity. Quite light but like Glass Slipper there is vanilla in this.

    Tale As Old As Time
    Three Wishes

Oh this is something special! I know there’s berries in this (raspberry and strawberries) but when I first got a whiff of this I thought I smelt rose. Not horrible, old fashioned rose. A beautiful rose, with depth and a slight darkness/musk which was quite seductive. But no…it’s strawberries, raspberries, orange oil and vanilla musk! Whatever is in this it’s beautiful.

    Three Wishes
    Enchanto

This has an almost bubblegum style scent to this! Sweet, fruity, a little on the tropical side. Just when I thought Once Upon A Time gave me a sugar rush I realised that this gave me a bigger one!

    Enchanto
    In Melt

All of these melted quite quickly and evenly. Each one left behind a beautiful slightly shimmering wax pool which was a joy to see! Since each one was differently coloured each wax pool was just as unique as their fragrance.

    Strength & Longevity

Each one of these wax pieces were medium in strength. I didn’t use too much, in fact I may have underused with some of these. But they filled the rooms they melted in well, not overpowering almost natural in fact. Longevity is a hard one to answer as I didn’t melt all of these pieces as long as I normally would. But each one was melted for a good number of hours at a time and remained consistent in scent and strength.

    Recommended?

This is a great collection of wax melts. Beautifully made, so look wise spot on and in keeping with the theme. Good sizes which should provide hours and hours of fragrance per piece and the wax pools were simple in style but eye catching. And the fragrances? All of them have similarities so feel as if they are part of a collection, but each one different and independent to each other. Recommended? Of course! Loved this subscription box! I can’t wait to try out another month, with another theme and new fragrances.

  • August Review Round Up. What Products Did I Use?

It’s that time where we are close to saying goodbye to one month and welcome in the next. August was a good month for me because I got much needed time off work AND managed to go away on a family holiday! And to top it off I got to use lots of skincare, body care and home fragrance products that I haven’t used before. So what did I try, use and review in August?

Products Used & Reviewed in August
The Body Shop’s Camomile Cleansing Oil

A great cleansing product to break up and remove sun cream and make-up as a first cleanse. Easy and quick to use, very moisturising and great for those who have dry and sensitive skin or just love an oil texture.

The Body Shop’s Camomile Cleansing Oil
Bespoke London’s Wild Herbs & Tonka Bean EDP For Men

Originally bought for my teenage son and then ‘borrowed’ a few times by me! A great fragrance scent wise, packaging and super affordable.

Bespoke London’s Wild Herbs and Tonka Bean EDP for Men
    Lidi’s Cien Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Eye Contour Cream

The perfect example that skincare doesn’t have to be expensive! For less than £2.00 this eye cream from the supermarket Lidl is a great product to nourish the under eye area and keep it well conditioned.

    Lidl’s Cien Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream
Dr Organic’s Shea Butter Body Scrub

Bought from Home Bargains for just 99p, but probably is one of the worst body scrubs I’ve ever used. Good sized product, left my skin feeling quite soft but this was probably down to it containing Shea Butter. There was no exfoliating action to this so therefore NOT a body scrub!

Dr Organic’s Shea Butter Body Scrub
Scentsy’s Disney The Last Petal Wax Melt Snap Bar

I waited a long time to try Scentsy’s wax bars! The Last Petal smelt really nice and packaging would make any Disney fan happy. But the usual retail price of this wax snap bar would put me off repurchasing but at a sale price (which is what I paid) it wouldn’t.

Scentsy’s Disney The Last Petal Wax Bar
    Beauty Kitchen’s Potent Sleep Mask

A great mask to use when your skin needs a pick me up! And even better as you apply this onto the face at night and wake up to a smoother more refreshed face in the morning.

Beauty Kitchen’s Abyssinian Oil Night Halo Potent Sleep Mask
Glow’s Ruffles At The Palace August Wax Melt Subscription Box

Technically not used yet, but I was so excited to purchase this wax melt subscription box from Glow. Beautiful pieces of wax, great fragrances and the theme was right up my street!

    Beauty Laundrette’s EDT

There’s nothing wrong with buying designer fragrances. But considering what’s currently going on across the world, not just in the UK, cheaper alternatives if possible should be at least looked at. Although Beauty Laundrette’s EDT isn’t my favourite scent for a few reasons, it will be a good purchase for someone who wants a light, white floral based feminine fragrance that doesn’t cost the earth.

    Beauty Laundrette’s EDT

So that’s my August product review round up all wrapped up in one post! I hope September brings even more interesting products to use and review.
