As much as I love skin and body care products, I’m very short of time. As a busy working mum of two, I don’t have time to use 50 million products on myself daily. And I definitely do not have the money to buy them! Products that are easy to use, quick to use and affordable are what I like and what I want. If one product could be used in different ways and be effective, then I’m sold! One product I’ve discovered that falls into this category is Palmer’s Coconut Oil Balm. I bought this when it was on special offer in Tesco last year, but retails for around £4.00 for 100g.
Why did I buy this?
Confession time, I didn’t want this product. Thinking this was Palmer’s Coconut Oil Cleansing Balm I picked it up, but it wasn’t! I was so mad with myself because I wanted the cleansing balm for ages, and instead came home with this! So this was a mistake purchase.
What is this supposed to do?
This product is designed to give instant hydration to any part of the body and face which is dry and/or cracked. Cuticles, heels of the feet, lips, elbows etc. Anywhere that needs intense moisturisation, this is where you can apply this product.
Texture & Look
Off white in colour, looks typical of a balm as it has a sheen to it, quite greasy in look and feel. Texture wise, this isn’t too soft but not too thick either. But when rubbed into the skin it looks and behaves more like an oil.
Fragrance
Just like the other products in the Palmer’s Coconut range, this smells absolutely delightful! It has a slight coconut, tropical scent to it but has a sugary, sweet warmth to it as well.
Ingredients
Includes Coconut Oil, Soy Bean Oil, Shea Butter, Sunflower Seed Oil and Rice Bran Wax.
How have I been using this?
Face. The skin on my face went through a really dry and uncomfortable stage at one point. It didn’t look dry but felt tight. So I used a thin layer of this on my face and neck before bedtime after cleansing.
Lips. Both myself and my daughter have the Palmer’s Coconut Lip Balm but I couldn’t tell which one was mine so used this instead. And now I use this as part of my morning routine. I apply this onto my lips before leaving the house.
Feet. At the time I hadn’t invested in any foot care products but needed my feet to feel softer, smoother and less dry. So before work I would (and still do), rub a generous amount of this balm on my feet and then pop my socks on and off I go.
Results?
This is an intense hit of moisture so on my face I would only use this when my skincare products just aren’t hitting it moisture wise. I found it moisturising, protecting and perfect for one off occasions when needed.
On my feet, this is exactly what I need and I love it! My feet look and feel spa like pampered and this lasts all morning. Perfect to use when feet are covered. Having this on bare feet and walking around floors will feel like a trip to ice skating, so if possible cover them and think of it as a foot treatment.
My lips look like I’ve put some form of lip product on when using this, like Vaseline. Unless I lick it off my lips these stay moisturised for hours. No drying, no white marks in the corners of my mouth. The slightly greasy look doesn’t last all day but the hydration does.
Any balm left on my fingers/hands, I will rub into my hands, arms, elbows, anywhere exposed, so nothing gets wasted.
Something to note
This has a high percentage of butters and oils in it. In their natural states their texture can change when temperature changes. I found this changed and it became grainy (it appeared smooth when I first bought it). All this means is when applying to the skin, I need to rub it in thoroughly to break up the grains. This isn’t a massive issue but something to mention if you find this isn’t totally smooth or it’s texture changes.
Recommended?
What at first was a disappointing purchase turned into a great one. I LOVE this product! It’s not for the faint hearted, some people HATE texture, grease and oiliness. But if you love you natural ingredients such as coconut oil, shea and cocoa butter (or products with these bases), you will adore this! It truly is multi- purpose. It hits the driest area of your skin and it’s long lasting. And this pot should last forever! I’ve been using this for awhile and I’ve hardly made a dent in it!
Can be picked up from various places from supermarkets and all the usual outlets that stock body products (Superdrug), so get buying if your skin is thirsty!
