  • Asda’s Rhubarb Blush Reed Diffuser For A Pound!

I would like to think I’m on the ball when it comes to spotting good deals. One place I can normally find a deal or two is in supermarkets. During a recent trip to Asda, while eyeing up some wax melts, my eyes caught sight of some reed diffusers. This is where I found Asda’s Rhubarb Blush Reed Diffuser, 100ml, for £1.00! No idea how much they were originally, but they were labelled as ‘special priced’.

    Asda’s Rhubarb Blush Reed Diffuser
    Why did I buy this?

I actually needed a reed diffuser as I like to use them in my downstairs toilet. But this grabbed me because the packaging was striking and understated at the same time. The fragrance name sounded like something I would like so very appealing. And to get a decent quality 100ml reed diffuser for £1.00 just isn’t going to happen, so I grabbed two!

    Packaging

This reed diffuser came boxed. Cream in colour with different shades of grey on it. The box itself is textured in look and feel. Very simple, very minimalist, very clean in look and modern.

    The Reed Diffuser

The reed diffuser itself is made from frosted glass. It’s a short, chunky cylinder shaped bottle which is grey in colour. Not totally opaque as I can see the fragranced oil inside of it. Around the top where you place the reeds it has a gold rim which contrasts with the colour of the bottle. And with this came 6 thick and short reeds which you place in the bottle and allow the oil to soak through them which in turn releases the fragrance.

    The Fragrance

I’m a sucker for anything with a rhubarb scent to it, and this diffuser definitely has that sweet, distinctive fragrance that rhubarb has. Fruity, sweet and mouthwatering. Mixed into this is floral, which makes this scent have quite a feminine, cosy and welcoming type of fragrance. Perfectly balanced, great combination of the two different scent types. It’s a beauty!

    Strength & Longevity

This lives in my small, downstairs toilet. It took a few hours for the fragrance to come through and it was so nice and had a good strength to it. Every time I go into the toilet I can smell it, and I would say the strength is medium, which is perfect for this sized room. Longevity is a hard one to comment on as I’ve only used this for the last 2/3 days. The packaging says this can last up to 8 weeks which I can’t say is true or not. But so far so good. How this behaves in a larger sized room I have no idea. In a smaller room size this is idea.

    Recommended?

For the price, the fragrance and the look of this, this is a definite buy buy buy! It’s a lovely reed diffuser to use which has a universal fragrance most people would like. How this performs in the short space of time I’ve used it has been good and the price makes this so budget friendly! And dare I say this would be something good to buy and put away for Christmas gifts?

I have no idea if Rhubarb Blush Reed Diffuser is available in all Asda stores and at the price I paid, but if it is you know what to do….

  • My Budget Friendly Christmas Gifts For My Friends

It’s Christmas Eve tomorrow. Seeing people shop till they drop even today doesn’t surprise me. It’s called working in retail, you see it all! Am I a last minute shopping kind of girl? Nope. When I was younger, occasionally, but not anymore. I like to plan, prepare and execute the act of gift giving well before the event. So, I try to pick up things months before when they are on special offer, pop them away and bring them out closer to a birthday or Christmas. And this is what I did for 2 out of the 3 gifts below.

Candle & Salt Rock Tea Light Holder

Both of these were purchased from Home Bargains and these will be given to my neighbour. I bought these because I know my neighbour is house proud, and loves to use things in her home to create fragrances e.g oils and wax melts. And I know she’s very particular when it comes to how things look so I thought the tea light holder would make this a killer gift combo! This was a purchase I made a week or so ago. Not planned, but I saw them and my neighbour just came to mind so I grabbed them. Candle £2.49, tea light holder £1.49. Total cost: £3.98.

Twisted Peppermint Candle & Rock Salt Tea Light Holder
Bath Fizzer, Mud Face Mask & Body Mist

All of my friend’s are people who love a bit of pampering, nice scents and look forward to unwinding. I thought this would make a great and inexpensive pamper present. Mud Mask (Home Bargains) 49p, NSPA Body Mist (reduced to 79p from ASDA) and I Heart Revolution Bath Fizzer from Superdrug (was half price and on a 3 for 2) £1.16. Total: £2.44

I Heart Revolution Cookie Bath Fizzer, Earth Kiss Mud Mask & NSPA Mango & Passion Fruit Body Mist
Bath Fizzer, Under Eye Patches & Body Mist

Another gift for a friend, and someone I work with. Trust me, I know she works hard! Early mornings, late nights, THAT’S why I popped in the under eye patches to help soothe and revitalise her eye area. The bath fizzer is fun and I think is a good addition to a bath time routine. And the body mist because I adore this one, it’s gorgeous in scent and I think she would appreciate and use it. Skin Republic Eye Patches (were half price) £2.99. I Heart Revolution Bath Fizzer from Superdrug (half price and 3 for 2) £1.16 and Superdrug’s Bloom Body Mist 99p. Total Cost: £5.15.

Skin Republic Retinol Eye Patches, I Heart Revolution Cookie Fizzer & Superdrug’s Bloom Orange, Rose & Amber Body Mist

So as you can see, these three different Christmas gifts are not the biggest and flashiest, and definitely not the most expensive. But it just shows that you don’t need to give a huge amount of ‘stuff’ to show some form of appreciation or thought for someone.

For all of you who are super last minute when it comes to buying gifts e.g running down the aisles on Christmas Eve at 8am, I will not judge you but I will pray for you! Best of luck, and please don’t kill yourself or your credit score in the process.

  • Treacle Moon’s Limited Edition Spiced Plum Frosting Shower & Bath Gel

It’s nice to have something to put in the bath or use in the shower that’s different. There are certain products I repeat purchase but once and awhile there comes along something that stands out. I shower in the morning and have a bath in the evening, so if I can use the same product for both it makes my life easier. And that’s why a shower and bath gel or cream are perfect. So going back to products that are a bit different to the norm….how about a limited edition winter inspired shower and bath gel with an unusual fragrance (compared to the usual ones on the shelves that is)? Well I found one! A frantic dash to my local ASDA store last week resulted in me leaving the building with Treacle Moon’s Limited Edition Spiced Plum Frosting Shower & Bath Gel. £1.50 for a 500ml bottle.

Treacle Moon’s Limited Edition Spiced Plum Frosting Shower & Bath Gel
    Why did I buy this?

I’ve bought and used different products from this brand and I’ve enjoyed every single one of them. Seeing a new fragrance, limited edition and seasonal, was a no brainer to buy and try. I love my fruity fragrances anyway, and this just seemed so appealing sat on the shelf. And £1.50 for a bottle is the lowest I’ve seen their shower & bath gels so even more affordable than usual.

    Packaging.

Simple but beautiful. 500ml of product sits in a plastic flip top lidded bottle. It’s clear because you can see the gel in it as it’s coloured. What makes this striking and stood out for me was the label. Mostly white in detailing with wintery looking leaves, dots and a large festive looking plum to finish it off. How could you not be drawn to this?

    Fragrance.

This sounds silly to say but what exactly does a plum smell like? I can’t say I’ve ever grabbed a plum to sniff it! So saying this smells like plum wouldn’t be totally accurate if I can’t think of what the fruit smells like. But what this does remind me of a little is dark cherries. Dark cherries which isn’t harsh or sharp but quite creamy with a hint of spice at the back of it. It’s a beautiful scent and one I don’t think I’ve smelt in a shower or bath gel before. Very different yet very seasonal.

    Look & Consistency.

This is a gorgeous shade of an almost burgundy red. Very striking! Smooth, glossy, opaque and thick. But of course it is a liquid and similar to many bath or shower gels in consistency.

    In The Shower.

On a sponge this created a very creamy foam. I didn’t need to use a lot, and it washed my body well and I really enjoyed using this. The fragrance was very noticeable and I know this is one of the reasons I loved using this because of how it smelt.

    In The Bath.

A small amount under warm running water created lots and lots of bubbles! Bubbles that lasted a long period of time and didn’t disappear straight away. The water underneath at first was slightly coloured, but became clear quite quickly. Like in the shower, the fragrance was there. It’s one of those scents that was comforting and lovely. I forgot it was there and then I had to remind myself where the lovely smell came from when my nostrils got a whiff of it. This was a very relaxing bath that helped me unwind. This shower and bath gel didn’t dry my skin out or irritate it at all.

    Recommended?

If you don’t like fruity scents this probably isn’t for you BUT if you do this is a must! The scent is gorgeous, it foams up fabulously, comes in a great size and is only £1.50! And the packaging screams winter which is perfect for this time of year. So do I recommend this? Oh yes I do! In fact, I wish I picked up two of these.

If like me you have a fruity side when it comes to your bath products and want to grab this for yourself or as a stocking filler, there are a few places you can get this from. I’ve seen these on the shelves of both Tesco and ASDA, and I believe Waitrose stock the Treacle Moon range so this maybe there too. But ASDA do have this for the best price so check there first if you can.

    Happy plum picking!x

  • Bubble Up Keeping It Cosy Bath Bar

I don’t care whether its freezing outside or if its so hot the world is melting, I will always love and have my baths. Can’t help myself! I put it down to old age. While I’m young enough to get out of them unaided I’m going to continue to get into them! This is why my bath products are so important because I want to enjoy my bathing experiences as much as possible. So it would have been rude of me not to pick up Bubble Up Keeping It Cosy Bath Bar from Asda during a shopping trip a few months ago, at a cost of £1.50 ( was on sale normally £3.00 ).

Bubble Up Keeping It Cosy Bath Bar

Why did I buy this? Sometimes I’m a bit of a snob! I will look at a product on a shelf, look at the price and assume whether it will be good or not. This I liked the look of it, packaging and colouring but for the price and the fact I never heard of the brand before, I wasn’t sure about the quality of it. Worst case scenario I thought I would hate it never to be used again. Best case scenario I actually like it. So in the shopping basket it went and crossed my fingers!

What’s a bath bar? I think this is probably a bubble bar with a different name. If you think of how a bath bomb performs, this will be of that type of product but contain more nourishing ingredients and creates foam. And of course, its shaped like a bar rather than a ball!

Appearance. Rectangular in shape, 4 inches in length, 2 inches in height and 1 inch deep. So overall a really good size! The texture looks quite chalky and although flat on all sides not totally smooth. Its made up of coloured stripes of burnt orange and a terracotta red which is simple but quite striking.

Scent. Not the strongest scent I’ve ever smelt. Taking this out of its packaging then the cling wrap, I got a little ginger. When I say ginger I don’t mean the punchy, warming ginger scent you think of. More a lightly perfumed version of ginger with a slight, sweet, citrus twist to it. Nice enough to sniff and quite different compared to other bath products I’ve used before in regards to its scent.

In the bath. With most products like this, I dopped this under the warm running water in my bath. Immediately when it hit the water it created colour and bubbles. Colour first, turning the bath water from clear to orange. Then came the bubbles. Started off being a few, with a small amount having an orange coating on them. But then more and more came, to the point the bath was full of bubbles! And what lay underneath was a sea of bright yet burnt orange tinted water.

On the skin in the bath. This was a delight! Without reading the packaging this clearly is a product that contained some form of moisture giving ingredients because I could feel it. I felt a slip in the water, I felt a slip on my skin and I could feel it with the bits of this that was left at the bottom of the bath. What was nice about this is it felt very comfortable and moisturising, but not greasy or oily. This, I normally I love. But sometimes you don’t want or need that, especially when you have bubbles in the bath too.

Out of the bath. Now this was interesting…I assumed that my body would feel like there was something on it but it didn’t. It felt and looked super clean, matt and not coated in anything. Skin wasn’t dry as in squeaky or uncomfortable. It felt more prepped and ready to go.

Recommended? I think I may have found a little gem with this! I really love it so its a yes from me. I would definitely recommend this if you see it on your travels. Its a great size and looks very appealing. The amount of bubbles and colour created was insane and my body loved this! What an enjoyable evening bath I had with this which I would happily repreat again and again and again! I think I got a bargain at £1.50 but even at full price ( £3.00 ) its an affordable luxury! And I cannot wait to try other versions and fragrances out in the future.

Want this bar in your bath? As mentioned you can get this from Asda but depending on store in regards to availability. If you were doing an online grocery shop with them, lucky for you it’s available online here as well.
