  • Glow’s New Year New You January Subscription Box

I’ve been looking forward to 2024 wondering what subscription boxes Glow would bring out. Over the past few years I’ve enjoyed many from Glow. But I wasn’t too sure what to expect with their New Year New You January Subscription Box. All that I knew was it would contain bath and body products. So what did it include?

Glow’s New Year New You January Subscription Box
    Calming Deodorant Balm

I’ve wanted to get my hands on one of Glow’s deodorants since my daughter stole my last one. So I was pleased to see this in the collection. Made with essential oils and containing shea butter, this deodorant is designed to neutralise odours without drying the underarm area. This has a lavender scent to it which isn’t overpowering and very soothing in scent.

    Calming Deodorant Balm
    Essentially Glow Body Butter

Glow’s body butters are superb. I’ve used them before, so this being included made me very happy! Essentially Glow smells relaxing and calming with an aromatherapy scent to it (lavender, same scent as the deodorant balm), and texture wise looks rich but lightly whipped. Perfect for dry skin during this current colder season.

    Coast Bubble Bath

This sparkles! Oh my goodness Coast Bubble Bath not only is a gorgeous marine, sea like blue/green colour but it sparkles! This gives me full on mermaid vibes and is incredibly pretty and unusual to see something so eye catching in bubble bath form. The fragrance matches how it looks, marine like, fresh and mineral based. Beautiful!

    Coast Bubble Bath
    Softly Bath Oil

How Softly Glow Bath Oil is packaged is so cute. It looks like a small bottle of tonic which obviously you don’t drink, but is literally a tonic for the bath. The texture looks like an oil and the fragrance is a spicy citrus blend. Can’t wait to try this.

    Softly Bath Oil
    Brow Serum

A Brow Serum is a product I have never used before or thought about purchasing but probably need it. Unfortunately, I never will as my daughter has claimed this already. The serum looks very fluid and easy to apply as the applicator is just like a lash wand. I think my daughter will enjoy using this.

    Brow Serum
Gloss & Glow Cookie Dough Lip Gloss

Shaped as a pencil, Gloss & Glow Cookie Dough Lip Gloss is adorable in its packaging, fun fragrance and perfect for my 12 year old (yes she’s taken it!). I’m not a massive lip gloss wearer so this is perfect for my daughter. And the packaging probably suits her age and tastes more than mine so it’s gone to a good home.

Gloss & Glow Cookie Dough Lip Gloss
    Mist Spray Dispenser

The mist spray dispenser included is chargeable and comes with a USB lead. You can pop in your favourite mist, essence or simply water to spray onto the face and freshen up. It has the cutest little animal figure inside of it and it lights up when the dispenser is in use. Another item that will disappear via my daughter I think….

    Mist Spray
    Body Puff

I’m not a fan of body puffs because they can be quite cheap in feel and scratchy on the skin. The body puff included in this sub box looks nice and much softer in feel which will make using this more enjoyable and easy.

So this is Glow’s first subscription box of 2024 and isn’t it filled with some amazing goodies? I love the mix of products in this box. Yet again totally different to any other subscription box brought out by this business. All products are pampering, easy to use, great sizes and brilliant quality.

    Great job Glow!

  • My Favourite Body Care Products In 2023

A quick and easy way of making your skin look and feel good is in the form of a body moisturiser. Keeping the skin on the body hydrated gives it a smoother feel and a natural glisten. Not to mention you feel more comfortable in a moisturised body compared to a dry one. Throw on a good body scrub before the lotion/cream/oil stage gives even better results. No wonder I love body products so much! So what were my favourite body care products in 2023?

My Favourite Body Care Products In 2023
Glow’s Amber & Lavender Body Butter

I was lucky to be gifted Glow’s Amber & Lavender Body Butter. Angela from Glow wanted me to test this out as it was a new product at the time. What I found was this body butter was rich and solid in texture but melted into the skin like a dream. And the fragrance? Honestly? One of the best things I have ever smelt! Soothing, calming, fresh, a little musk, slightly sweet…stunning!

Glow’s Amber & Lavender Body Butter
    Safa’s Skin Therapy Oil

An affordable (69p from Home Bargains), alternative to a traditional body moisturiser was Safa’s Skin Therapy Oil. Moisturising enough to use on it’s own or ideal to layer with other body products. This wasn’t heavy and too greasy, with an aromatherapy style fragrance to it. This was a good buy.

    Safa’s Skin Therapy Oil
Glow’s Raspberry Candy Floss Body Butter

This body butter from Glow was just as good as the Amber & Lavender Body Butter version but different. Just as moisturising but the texture was a little different and more body butter like in consistency compared to Amber & Lavender Body Butter, which was a little more whipped. The fragrance of Raspberry Candy Floss Body Butter was mouth wateringly good and smelt as you would expect a candy flossed scented product to smell like!

    Glow’s Defence Moisturiser

Glow’s Defence Moisturiser was a brilliant product to use especially during the Summer. I didn’t always want to use heavy and greasy body creams, especially when my skin was feeling hot and irritated. This was light weight but had a slight slip to it, cooling on the skin with a fresh, minty fragrance.

Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub By LUSH

My first, and hopefully not my last, body scrub from LUSH (given to me by a friend). I have never used a scrub like this before. The colour was crazy (bright blue), the texture was almost jelly like and the fragrance was an earthy floral scent which was amazing. Plus it did a great job exfoliating my skin leaving it smooth and hydrated.

So these are my favourite body care products of 2023. I wonder what new products I will find to try out in 2024? Can’t wait!

  • Hands Will Love Glow’s Gin & Tonic Hand Cream

Hand cream. Hand cream is one of those products we use but unless you use it everyday, you don’t appreciate it. Only when hands look and feel dry, sometimes cracked and aged that we are rummaging around for our magic in a tube. Or at least that’s what I’ve been doing recently! The hand cream I’m currently using is Glow’s Gin & Tonic Hand Cream, which was gifted to me by Glow a few months ago. So what is this like? Is this any good?

Glow’s Gin & Tonic Hand Cream
    Consistency/Texture/look

Glow’s Gin & Tonic Hand Cream is white in colour, smooth in texture and has the consistency of lotion. It’s liquid but not runny and not thick.

    Fragrance

This has a citrus undertone to it. Earthy in scent and almost herbal. Gin & Tonic Hand Cream has a slightly masculine smell to it. It’s such an unusual fragrance and not something I’ve smelt before, especially in a body care product. It won’t appeal to everyone but it’s that kind of scent that slowly grows on you.

The state of my hands recently

Literally within the space of a week my hands have gone from a lovely brown colour, relatively smooth to ashy, dry and shrivelled. THIS is what going into the Winter season has done to them! So I’ve been carrying this in my pocket in work to help them look less dead like. This hand cream has had its work cut out with me!

    In use

I tend to use this mostly in work because I’m using my hands a lot. Although this is lotion like in consistency, it has a slip to it so it feels very moisturising but it’s not sticky and greasy in feel. Sinks in very easily, and it doesn’t take long for me to be able to use my hands once this applied. My hands immediately look more healthy as the colour comes back to them and they look moisturised and not dry. Plus they feel less tight.

I do have to use this a regularly because I’m using my hands a lot so I apply this little and often. The fragrance isn’t strong but it’s there and I get a whiff of it throughout the day. Honestly? I was unsure whether I liked how this is fragranced but the more I used it the more I think I’m softening towards it.

    Recommended?

I like this hand cream. Easy and quick to use, leaves the hands feeling and looking moisturised but normal and not shiny. It’s quite a light weight hand cream so perfect for normal to dry hands. Really dry hands may need something thicker but for most of us this will do nicely. Recommended!

This comes in different fragrances just in case Gin & Tonic isn’t for you. Available soon once Glow’s online store is restocked.

  • Affordable Dupe Alert! Aldi’s New Lacura Almond Body Care Range

The supermarket Aldi never fail! Every few months there will be a new bath, body or skincare product that will catch your eye. It will look familiar but not identical to something that you’ve seen before. Give yourself a few seconds or minutes and you will figure out that Aldi have struck again with a dupe of a particular product or brand. The latest brand they’ve been ‘inspired’ by is L’Occitane En Provence and their almond body care range. So what has Aldi’s Lacura own brand released now?

Aldi’s Lacura Almond Body Care Range
    Lacura’s Almond Body Scrub

How this body scrub is packaged made me notice these three new products. One of the top ingredients in this scrub is shea butter. This should make this product a very nourishing and rich exfoliator, which is what you want at this time of year.

    Aldi’s Lacura Almondy Body Scrub
    Lacura’s Almond Cleansing Shower Oil

A shower oil isn’t something you see on the high street often, but I can imagine this would be indulgent and soothing on the skin. Great for dry skin or perfect for someone who wants something different from a shower gel or cream.

    Aldi’s Lacura Shower Oil
    Lacura’s Nourishing Body Lotion

With this being a lotion and not a cream I’m guessing this won’t be particularly thick. Perfect for those who want moisturising but with a lighter consistency and suitable for normal skin, possibly even dry.

    Aldi’s Lacura Almond Body Lotion
    What are they dupes of?

I’m comparing the products from Aldi to the L’Occitane equivalent by product type and packaging, not ingredients. Remember these are more likely to be ‘inspired’ by and not copies so there will be differences:

    Lacura’s Almond Shower Scrub 200ml – L’Occitane En Provence Almond Shower Scrub 250ml £21.50.

    Lacura’s Cleansing Shower Oil 200ml £4.99 – L’Occitane En Provence’s Almond Shower Oil 250ml £19.50.

    Lacura’s Almond Body Lotion 200ml £4.99 – L’Occitane En Provence’s Almond Milk Concentrate 200ml £44.00 or L’Occitane En Provence’s Almond Milk Veil 240ml £34.50.

    Recommended?

How good these products are, their smells and textures I can’t comment on because I haven’t bought and used them. But in the past I have used at least one of their L’Occitane counterparts. Packaging wise the Lacura products look great, very stylish and VERY similar to the L’Occitane versions. Size wise these are decent and quite standard although smaller than L’Occitane’s. But the price difference is INSANE! I would definitely give this range a go and I think these make perfect Christmas gift ideas or stocking fillers. Even the type of products these are and it being an almond range is perfect for this time of year. Question is, how long will it take for these to disappear from stores?
