  • The Rose and Thistle Wax Patisserie’s Cherry Bakewell Wax Melts

Instagram. Instagram is a shop window when you visit certain accounts. You will discover so many businesses you never knew existed. and your credit card won’t thank you for it! This is how I discovered a wax vendor called The Rose and Thistle Wax Patisserie. Beautifully presented wax melts on their post made me buy a few pieces, including Cherry Bakewell. Were they just as good as their name suggests?

    Why did I buy this?

This was my first purchase from The Rose and Thistle Wax Patisserie, but not my first experience of their wax melts. I was given by a friend wax melt brittle from this business, was so impressed by the quality, stalked them on Instagram then made an order! Since I love bakery scents, and these wax melts were nicely shaped, I thought I would give these a go.

What do these wax melts look like?

Cherry Bakewell Wax Melts came in two, small skull shapes. Various shades of reddish pink finished off with random dots of large glitter. Fun and nicely shaped and the perfect size to pop into a wax warmer.

    Fragrance

I opened the small packet this came in and the fragrance hit me! Definitely no mistaking what scent this was supposed to be because it smelt just like a cherry bakewell tart! Think of marzipan, super sweet icing, cherry and don’t forget pastry. A total replica scent wise in my book and a brilliant one too!

    In melt

I used only one which slowly melted away, making the skull swim it what looked like a pool of blood. A gorgeous wax pool was created with a slight shimmer to it. The scent exactly as described as above was obvious from when it first warmed through.

    Strength & Longevity

Strength was medium, but a punchy medium. It filled a small kitchen well and helped to lessen the usual cooking smells which impressed me. I had this melting over 2 days for a minimum of 8 hours and this lasted that time period very well. I only changed this wax melt because I wanted a different fragrance, not because the scent had died, because it was still there.

    Recommended?

Yes! It’s an exceptionally scented wax melt duo that smelt just like it was supposed to. A must for bakery lovers and ideal for colder months if you want more cosy scents to use. This duo of wax cost only £1.60, but unfortunately isn’t a regular stock item. There are though plenty of other scents and shapes of wax melts available on The Rose and Thistle Wax Patisserie website.

  • Bath Beauty Babe’s Sleepy Unicorn Bath Soak

There’s many reasons why I like to support small businesses. One reason is they create and sell products that you won’t normally find on the high street. Products can be more imaginative, more personal and compared to high street prices can still be affordable. I’ve discovered a bath, body and home fragrance small business called Bath Beauty Babe (formally Jenny Makes For You) thanks to Instagram. An order was made, I enjoyed the products and then I was kindly gifted Sleepy Unicorn Bath Soak. But was it as magical as it’s name suggests?

Bath Beauty Babe’s Sleepy Unicorn Bath Soak
What is this & What does it do?

Containing essential oils such as lavender, this soak is meant to provide a relaxing bathing experience while providing the skin with hydration thanks to containing coconut oil.

    Packaging

120g of Bath Beauty Babe’s Sleepy Unicorn Bath Soak is filled to the brim in a clear, plastic pouch which is resealable.

How does the bath soak look?

This bath soak isn’t liquid as a traditional soak would be. It’s actually made up of a fine powder of various colours, made up of yellow, pink, blue and purple. Perfectly named with this killer colour combo! Eye catching, pretty and very inviting.

    Fragrance

I expected something sweet, like cotton candy. WRONG! This smelt of lavender. Not too strong but obvious, and not old fashioned either. Herbal, aromatherapy like and very soothing. A sweetness to this scent made it more rounded and pleasant to smell. Incredibly relaxing and comforting to experience.

    Texture

Very fine, almost chalky in feel. Think of a deconstructed bath bomb before it sets and this is the texture of the bath soak.

    In the bath

This didn’t create foam or bubbles. But the different colours of the bath soak merged into the water beautifully, left small little purple speckles on top of the water. How this behaved was similar to a bath melt. A bath melt contains a high amount of oil that melts into the water, no foam, and moisturises the skin. This is what this bath product did. It felt like a treatment that cocooned my body with moisture and nourished the driest parts of me. And to make this even more treatment like, the fragrance filling the bathroom made it incredibly relaxing and pampering.

Once out of the bath, my skin wasn’t irritated or dried out. Still slightly moisturised with a faint hint of fragrance on my body.

    Recommended?

Relaxing, moisturising and treatment like is how I would describe Bath Beauty Babe’s Sleepy Unicorn Bath Soak. Used before bedtime this will be a great start to a bedtime routine for sure! From the pouch I received this is three baths minimum, so worth purchasing for multiple uses. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem as if this particular bath soak is available currently. But there are others to chose from varying sizes, prices and ingredients which will give foam, no foam and even contain salts! Visit the website here to see what’s available to purchase.

  • Revolution Skincare’s Mood Calming Cleansing Oil

There is nothing nicer than having clean skin. Fresh, dirt, grime free, perfect blank canvas to add anything on top of it e.g skincare products or/and make-up. There are so many different textures of cleansers on the market, we are all spoilt for choice. I love textures such as balms and oils. So I’m not surprised I bought Revolution Skincare’s Mood Calming Cleansing Oil. At the time of purchase this was on sale on their website for £5.60, usual price £8.00 for 140ml.

    Revolution Skincare’s Calming Cleansing Oil
    Why did I buy this?

I tend to find that if I want to get to the base of a skincare problem my best starting point is looking at what I’m washing my face with. I felt my previous cleanser could have been more hard working when it came to cleaning my skin, and I knew I was suffering from stress. Stress can manifest itself in many ways on the face, in the form of spots, lines and overall tiredness. This cleansing oil is something I’ve had my eye on for awhile. I felt my skin could benefit in using this, so when it was on for a sale price it seemed the perfect opportunity to buy and try.

What is this supposed to do?

This is a cleansing oil that’s designed to soothe stressed skin without stripping it of moisture, by being gentle and effective in its cleansing action.

    Packaging

140ml of cleaning oil in a pump dispenser glass bottle. It looks very smart, simple in style but very appealing with a basic looking label.

    Fragrance

Its not fragrance free as it has a scent to it. The fragrance though isn’t obvious or strong but very light. It doesn’t belong to a particular fragrance family, but it’s a scent that isn’t offensive. There’s a hint of a sweet floral base to it but it’s exceptionally delicate.

    Consistency

As the name suggests this is an oil. Typical oil texture but not thick as its easy to pump out and is very fluid. Pretty much the same thickness as most facial oils on the market.

    In use

I used two pumps of this on dry skin. The oil itself was so satisfying to rub over my face as it glided over it effortlessly. It didn’t sink in and stayed on the surface, which meant I could either spend 5 seconds cleansing or even 5 minutes. This made mince meat out of my eyebrow pencil, which previous cleansers had struggled to remove despite the product not being special e.g being waterproof or semi permanent. Once finished, I rinsed it off with warm water, which was very easy to do. Purely out of habit I wiped my face with a damp muslin cloth to make sure my face was oil free. How effective this is on heavy make-up I can’t comment as I don’t wear make-up, except as mentioned my trusty eyebrow pencil which I would die without!

    Skin afterwards

In look and feel my skin was clean, fresh, felt hydrated and not stripped of any natural oils but very importantly didn’t look or feel oily. Lots of people are scared of using oily products on their skin thinking it could prove to be problematic and actually create greasy skin, but not the case with this product.

    One week later

I’ve noticed that my skin does appear to be behaving itself and looks as if its in a better condition, smoother in fact, compared to how it was before. My facial routine hadn’t changed except for using this as a cleanser so I’m confident that this product has been helping regulate my skin.

    The Calming Range
    Recommended?

As a general cleanser definitely! If you love your oils and balms to cleanse with or slip into your daily routine as a treatment then this is a must! It cleans the skins, it doesn’t dry it out and its really easy and quick to use and quite enjoyable to apply. My only wish is I would really love this to be available in not only a bigger size ( at least double for home use ), and a smaller size ( 50/60ml ) for travel. Definitely an affordable everyday skincare product that won’t break the bank. What also makes this a great product to own is there is a matching face cream and mask so you can have a complete routine at your fingertips. Grab yours now direct from Revolution here and give yourself the gift of good skin.

  • Fragrantasia’s Violet Laundry Wax Melt Chunks Pot

Wax melts has been one of my favourite ways to fragrance my home for a long time. will never end. They come in a variety of fragrances, looks, sizes and are affordable. Not to mention they are so easy to use. I was lucky to receive some wax melts and wax melt chunk pots from Amy of Fragrantasia. New fragrances to her wax melt business, she asked me to try these new releases out and share what I thought about them. The first one to be melted was Violet Laundry Wax Melt Chunk Pot.

Fragrantasia’s Violet Laundry Wax Melt Chunks Pot
    Packaging

Violet Laundry came in a lidded, clear pot. Simple but easy to store away and keep the wax safe so very practical.

    How does it look?

This has a base of soft pink coloured wax with bubble gum blue coloured wax chunks running through it. These chunks made a very simple looking wax look very appealing and interesting to look at on the eye.

    Fragrance

I wasn’t too sure what Violet Laundry would or could smell like. I found this was familiar in fragrance to me and reminded me of parma violet sweets. Slightly sugary, slightly floral but very fresh and clean thanks to it having a powdery element to it. Beautiful fragrance and the type of fragrance NO ONE wouldn’t like!

    In melt

I popped in a quarter of this wax pot into my wax warmer. While it was slowly melting it created a gorgeous wax pool, where the blue chunks and pink wax slowly merged into one. The scent smelt exactly the same warmed through as it did when solid, and it filled my small but perfectly formed kitchen from corner to corner.

    Strength & Longevity

I would describe the strength of Violet Laundry as being medium strength. There’s no mistaking its there, its not hiding in the air its THERE. I walked into my kitchen and it smelt so good, and fought its way bravely through cooking smells but the scent itself wasn’t overwhelming. Longevity was great. It’s a steady scent that continued to throw itself out for hours and hours and just kept going.

    Recommended?

This wax fragrance wise was a mix of things I love to smell. I love fruity/sweetie scents and the typical fresh and clean laundry scents too. With the floral element thrown in, this made Violet Laundry Wax Melt Chunk Pot a killer combination of beautiful fragrances that all worked together perfectly. Not to mention how this wax looked made this a brilliant piece of wax to own and to melt. Absolutely recommended because it’s one of those fragrances most people will love and different to the norm wise.
